Create a fillable pdf

Was wondering how to create a fillable PDF file and save it for future use.

Hi gibbl98,
Do you have Acrobat, or a subscription to FormsCentral? Here are links to Help documents for both, so you can get an overview of the process:
FormsCentral Help | Create a form
https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/creating-distributing-pdf-forms.html
I hope that points you in the right direction.
Best,
Sara

You're in luck. Create the first field and then right-click it (in Form Edit mode) and select Create Multiple Copies. You'll be able to specify how many copies of the fields to generate, and at what intervals. The nice thing is that although the properties of the new fields will be identical to the source one, they'll each have a unique name, so you'll get an instant "table" of fields.

  • Creating a Fillable PDF with Acrobat Pro 9

Hey there, i've got a problem when trying to create a fillable PDF Document.
I simple want to get a calculation done.
I got Checkboxes and i need a calculation like this:
    For example:
If there is a "x" in the field named checkbox1, then it should go forward and check what number is in the Field named "Hours1"
if its higher than 2, it should put a 0,25 in the field, if higher than 4, put a 0,5 in the field, if higher than 6, put a 0,75 in the field and if higher than 8, put a 1 in the field and if nothing is written in hours1, leave it blank
    Like:
    If checkbox1 > 0 then if hours1 > 2 then 0,25 else if hours1 > 4 then 0,5 else if > 6 then 0,75 else if > 8 then 1 else ""
i used this calculation on excel but now we wanted to send a fillable pdf via email, but the recievers of the email always mix up the calculation, so i wanted to have it already in the pdf and calculating by it own.
i found basic things like field1 + field2  but i just saw that i need javascript to get what i need.
but well, i dont have any idea of JS.
maybe u can give me some links where i can learn it or something else.
iam looking forward to any help i recieve.
thanks for reading and i hope u can help me.

"Automatic Form Recognition" looks for blank areas next to text and assumes the format.
You probably will need to place each individual form and write each script.
You can find articles at Planet PDF and Acrobat Users Community and there a number of books on how to create and program forms.

I've created a fillable PDF document in XI Pro. I need to change the body of the document and create a new fillable PDF document. When I do that it won't let me create a new PDF. It keeps saying "no new  fields recognized. What can I do to redo my document with the changes in the text, but no changes in the fillable fields?

You start with a source / authoring file for the "static" content (e.g., Name, Last:). Say this is an MS Word file.
    You master the "static" content..
You keep this authoring file and have a backup of this file.
You output a PDF and use Acrobat to build and fine tune the "form" (form = the form fields, not the "static" content).
The authoring file  and output PDF (with form fields) gives you "rev 00".
Now, you must change something in the "static" content.
Open the authoring file and save as to a new version (e.g., "wordfile_v00"  becomes "wordfile_v01).
    Output this to "pdffile_v01".
Use Acrobat to open the PDF form file "pdffile_v00". Save As to a new file name ("pdffile_v00update").
Using Acrobat XI Pro the click-path Tools - Pages - Replace lets you replace a page or pages of "pdffile_v00update" with a page or pages from "pdffile_v01".
This replaces the "static" PDF page content and does not affect the form fields on the page.
(you may have to adjust position of form fields)
Save "pdffile_v00update" to "pdffile_v01" to reflect the revised status of the PDF form file.

  • How to create a fillable PDF from InDesign?

    Hi everybody!
Hope there's no thread about that... by the way. I have to create a fillable PDF from a InDesign file.
I try to explain: with ID I'd create a file with text form, tables, images with text forms on them etc.... Now I have to export that in PDF and I want to transform the forms (sorry for the bad english, I'm italian) in fillable ones in PDF. How can I do it?
    Thanks to everyone!
    Dario

Export the ID file as an Interactive PDF.
Open the PDF form in Acrobat XI  and then:
File > Save As Other > Reader Extended PDF > Enable More Tools (includes for fill-in & save). . . Your users will be able to fill in the form and save it (assuming they have the later versions of Acrobat Reader).
Make sure you keep a copy of your original PDF with a different file name as once you've created a Reader Enabled PDF Form you can't change it.

  • When creating a fillable PDF form can I add a password to only selected fields?

I am creating a fillable form which will require data entry from several different people before being returned to my office. There are certain fields on the form that need to be restricted to personnel in my office only. I have tried to accomplish this restriction many different ways but have been unsuccessful.
The closest I have come to accomplishing this restriction is by adding a "For HRO Only" button which I can use to hide certain fields from personnel outside of my office and unhide the text field when the button is clicked. This would be perfect if I could add a password to the button. Unfortunately this is either not possible or I haven't figured out how to do it which means that personnel outside of my office can still access the fields with a click of a button.
The only other way I have thought of to accomplish this restriction is to mark those fields as "read only" but it seems as though it would be very time consuming for personnel in my office to complete the form due to the fact that they would have to open "edit form",  open the properties for each field requiring their input, and uncheck "read only" for each one.
Any help/options/ideas you can provide will be greatly appreciate. Thank you!

Thank you so much for the quick response. This will be a huge help! I hate to be a bother, but can you tell me the steps to create the script or give me a reference/resouce to use? I have used adobe products quite a bit, but this is my first time creating a PDF Fillable Form that will be distributed for use by several people so I am a little lost.
Also, I seem to be running into one more problem that I am hoping you can help me figure out. On the form there is a question for the recipient  to answer by checking one of two boxes, yes or no. Depending on the answer an action is initiated. This feature works perfectly, however the issue is that when the recipient choses "yes" he/she is directed to fill out four additional fields that I currently have set as "required", but when the recipient choses "No" the four additional fields are hidden yet still required. This becomes an issue when the recipient has completed the form and tries to submit the form. An error message pops up notifying the user there are required fields that are empty and must be completed before submission.
My thought is (in a perfect world) one of these two options would be ideal:
    1. When the "No" option is chosen the four additional fields are changed from required to not required, or
    2. When the "No" option is chose the four additional required fields are autopopulated with NA.
Either remedy would work just fine, however I am open to suggestions... Again thank you so much for your help with my previous question and thank you in advance for any information/help/advice you can provide in regards to my second question.

  • Can I create a fillable PDF that allows the user to attach a file to the submitted form?

There are suggestions in the Help documentation and on this site that indicate it is possible to attach files to a fillable PDF form that is being submitted. But I do not see any instructions for adding this functionality to a form. I am using Acrobat 9 Pro to create my form. I have a Submit button with an Action/Menu Item/Submit a form option, and the URL link for the submission is a local coldfusion file with a #FDF suffix. The export format is HTML. The form also contains a hidden EMAILTO field, with an Options/DefaultValue option identifying the recipient's email address. (I'm guessing the local cfm file uses this field.) There is also a hidden URL field in the form, and its Options/DefaultValue specifies the URL of the fillable form itself. (Perhaps the local cfm file uses this field too.)
How can I add functionality to this form, using Adobe/PDF, to allow the user who submits the form to attach a file to the submission?

You have to first configure a text field so it can be used for file selection. You do this on the Options tab of the field properties dialog. In order to select the corresponding check box, make sure only the "Scroll long text" option is selected.
You then can set up a button that has the following JavaScript attached to the Mouse Up event:
// Mouse Up script for button
    getField("upload_text_field").browseForFileToSubmit();
Replace "upload_text_field" with the actual name of the file selection text field.

  • I would like to create a fillable pdf for my employees that are using the ipad

I need to have my employees turn in forms/reports on a daily basis so I would like to create these forms where they could enter the input but are not able to alter the form (Adobe calls this a "fillable pdf")on the ipad and then be able to email it to me. Any ideas on a good app

PDF Reader Pro Edition says that it can handle PDF forms and allows emailing of documents:
    http://itunes.apple.com/app/pdf-reader-pro-edition-for/id364502063?mt=8
I haven't tried it myself but it's gotten good ratings. You would create the forms on your computer using Adobe Acrobat Pro.

    Hi,
I am creating a fillalbe PDF form using Form central with Adobe Pro XI and I am using the new "add help text" feature in it, but when i save the form as PDF the add help text disaapars. I am also unalbe to find a form reset button to add to my form. How can I create a from with these features. The form I want to make it fillable PDf to emailed to customers.
    thanks.

    Hi;
Re: Help Icon - The PDF does not display the "?" like the web form.  In the PDF when you mouse over the field and hover for 1-2 seconds the help text is shown in a tooltip.
Re: Form Reset button (Clear Form) - FormsCentral does not provide a clear form button but you can add it in Acrobat.  You will want to open the PDF in Acrobat and then follow these two tutorials:
In order to Edit the FormsCentral PDF in Acrobat you will need to read this FAQ: http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-3661
This tutorial shows you how to add the "Clear" button to the form: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/acrobat-x-tips-tricks/quick-tip-how-to-add-a-reset-button-to-a-f orm/
Are you planning save the form as a "Submission Enabled PDF" and collect responses using FormsCentral?  If you are not, and simply want the responses or PDF emailed back to you on submission you can see this tutorial: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/acrobat/X/pro/using/WS58a04a822e3e50102bd615109794195ff-7dd6.w .html

  • How do I create a fillable PDF?

I have a document in Word that I want to use for employee performance reviews and I would like to make it a fillable PDF instead of messing with the spacing in Word when I enter the data. Not sure where to start, any help?

    Hi rob214,
You can use either Acrobat for FormsCentral to create fillable PDF forms. Whichever route you choose, there are some great resources on the Adobe website to get you started:
    FormsCentral Help | FormsCentral Help
Create PDF forms, web form builder | Adobe Acrobat XI

  • Creating a fillable PDF form, check box entries do not print

    Hello.
I am creating a PDF in Acrobat Pro for Adobe Reader users to enter information, with an option to print after the form is completed. I've added check box fields for users to indicate various options. However, when checked, these fields do not print.
In the properties dialog, the field is visible - so theoretically it should print. All other form fields added to the document print, except for check boxes.
Could this be a font issue? I notice that Adobe Pi font is used for check boxes, however, Zapf Dingbats is being substituted (I can see this in the Document Properties/Fonts dialog).
    Thanks for your help.

  • Trying to create a fillable PDF

Is this even possible? I have an image I have set as a background, and I have tried to set tables over the spaces, so I could tab though the cells and entire my values. I can not get the cells I want to be independent of the others. Meaning I have the table as a structure, but I only want certain cells to be active. How do I do that?
    Thanks in advance.

Ack! So my best option is to buy a $700 program? That seems ridiculous! Is it seriously the only app that does what I want?
I tried the text boxes but I could not figure out how to move or size them so they could go where I wanted them. I want embedded fillable spaces. Similar to some shopping basket forms.
I make clothes, and I have created a measurement sheet. I would really like to just be able to keep a digital file of these measurement pages, and have them easy to fill out.
Thanks for the advice so far.

see question above?  I could use a little help.
                                Linda Garland

    Hi Linda;
When had you posted your original question?
FormsCentral doesn't really offer any sort of fillable calendar, assuming I understand your question correctly, a Calendar which you could fill with events and appointments...
Here are some resources to learn about FormsCentral to see if we offer what you are looking for:
    Video overview of FormsCentral: https://www.acrobat.com/formscentral/en/video-index/formscentral-overview.html
A collection of quick start guides and tutorials: https://www.acrobat.com/formscentral/en/library/how-to-make-create-survey-or-form.html
Feel free to describe your need in more detail and I will be able to answer better.
