Create a magnifying glass on an image.

I am pretty new to Flex. I am trying to create a magnifying
glass for an image viewer. I want to move the cursor over an image
that will zoom in on a 200X200 area. I don't want to zoom in on the
whole image. I can see I can probably do it with the Bitmap class,
but I do not see how I can cut out a piece of the original bitmap
to display. Also, Flex seems to have a lot of similar features like
Zoom, but I can't see how to use any of these cool features to do
just what i want to do. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

The way I do this in Flash is to have a masked enlarged image
on a seperate layer with the magnifier acting as the mask. The mask
object is draggable, so it reveals to larger image as you move it
around. There is some math involved to make it track like it is
actually revealing the smaller image.
The layering looks like this:
mask object
large image
small image
mask is a property of flash.display.DisplayObject and
mx.core.IFlexDisplayObject. I haven't played with this yet in Flex,
but I'm sure it should work similarly to what I've used in
Flash.

  • Creating a Magnifying Glass graphic

    Hello Everyone,
Anyone know how I could create a magnifying glass graphic using Adobe Photoshop?
I did do a search but it mostly came up with instructions or info on how to create one that'll also actually have a "magnifying" or "glassy" look to it.
While just I want to create a simple one, just containing a circle and an handle attached to it.
    Kinda like the following:
    http://www.iconfinder.com/icondetails/42437/32/alt_glass_magnifying_icon
And in case you're wondering why I don't use the above, I'd like to create one with my own colors.
I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

The advice given above is great, but I'd like to toss out another idea:  Search the web for stuff like:
    magnifying glass Photoshop file
You turn up some very nice free PSD file downloads that you can open and see how the designers did their stuff.  The first match with the above search in Google nets you a very nice example from psdgraphics.com.

I'll second that. It always amazes me what you can find if you look. There must be a brush set for every contingency, for instance, and almost as many Shapes. I bet there is even a font out there that incudes a magnifying glass!

  • How do I create a magnifying glass zoom effect?

I'm building an image 'showcase of work' website site. Each html page features a selection of thumbnails on one side linked to a main image on the other.  I am trying to find out how to create something like a zoom effect 'magnifying glass' so that the user can hover over the main image to zoom in within a confined circle or square in more detail, which moves with the mouse whilst hovering over the image. I'm sure you all know what I mean!  (just in case, please see attached html file showing the page layout)  (I also don't want to get too techy/over complicate things as I'm learning as I go). I want to be able to use this feature throughout the site, therefore, I guess it's another CSS rule that I need to apply...?
I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction to find some sort of step by step 'how to' do this.  I can't seem to find just what I'm looking for... maybe I'm not calling it by the right terminology!
I'm currently using Design Premium CS4 (predominantly Dreamweaver, Photoshop and a little Flash)
    Cheers....

    Hi
Magiczoom and lightbox are used for showing enlarged versions of images etc. similar to using a separate pop-up window (but without the annoyance of pop-up windows).
Anythingzoomer is a magnifying glass effect and works as such.

  • 1st generation ipod. When I plug it into my computer an image of a disk w/a magnifying glass appears (disk scan).  Each time I plug it in it does the same thing and it wont show up on my computer.

I have a 1st generation ipod, which I love. When I plug it into my computer an image of a disk with a magnifying glass appears (disk scan).  When it finishes the scan it always checks out. I then restart it and all looks fine. Each time I plug it in to the computer it does the same thing and it wont show up on my computer. The other strange thing is all of the songs are gone from the ipod but the disk space is still being used. When the ipod is not plugged into the computer everything look fine even the correct date shows up. Any ideas????? Thanks

    try reinstalling iTunes.

  • Creating a magnified detail view of a portion of an image

I have PSE11 and I am trying to create a magnified cutaway of an area of an image for a tutorial but I cannot find instructions for how to do this for PSE11 anywhere on the web.  I am also not very literate when it comes to the lingo so I would need some instructions in layman's language.  Can someone help me with this problem?

I suggest try these two links:
    <http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44970>
    <http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/photoshop/ss/magnified.htm>
The second link is for photoshop but you can adapt the technique to work
    in PSE11.
    Good luck.

  • How to make a magnifying glass link to a look up table ?

    Dear Friends,
Hello. I am developing the accounting application of journal entry. In journal line, I use the image "magnifying glass" next to each chart field. When we click on the magnifying glass, it's supposed to come up a look up table( a chart and name mapping table), and we select the proper chart to input into the chart field.
I understand to create another record and page for the look up table. But I don't understand how to make a magnifying glass link to a look up table. Can anybody tell me how to do that ? Thanks.
    Lucy

    This is how it works,
Table A (which stores chart fields). You have used fields from table A on a page so that users can input data.
You don't need to put a magnifying glass image or create a new page to achieve look up page.
all you need to do is create another table say Table B which should have the chart field and corresponding description you want to show on lookup page. Then open record-field property of the chart field on Table A and mention Table B as prompt table.

  • Making a Magnifying Glass

    Hey all,
I am trying to make a magnifying glass, not a detailed image, just an icon.  The image nelow shows what I want to do.  I want to rotate the dark line of the handle that I want to create around the red axis, or draw this in such a way so it appears like a handle. If this were a 3d Modeling software like Rhino, I'd have absolutely no trouble with this. However, illustrator is all I have to work with.  Any helpful hints?

First, make sure you're drawing the profile so it lies along the vertical axis and not at the angle you want the finished revolved object to appear.
Next in the Effect/3D window, show the options and select "Left edge" (depending on how it was drawn)
Rotate it into place by manipulating the cube (or numerically)
Once you hit OK, if you want to change the angle or other attributes, you need to select the object profile, go to Window/Appearance and select "3D revolve" in the pallete to bring up the 3D Revolve Options again. Just rotating the profile itself will cause problems.

  • Magnifying glass cursor

    Hi !
I want to use a magnifying glass cursor , how do i set it up ?
i checked the java.awt.cursor API and didnt find what i need .
    please help me .
    thank you !

I'm pretty sure there isn't a predefined magnifying glass cursor, so you're going to need to create your own magnifying glass image to use. After you make the image, you can set your program to use it with:
    Cursor cursor = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().createCustomCursor(img, hotSpot, name);
    component.setCursor(cursor);
    Here's the documentation for that:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/java/awt/Toolkit.html#createCustomCursor(java.awt.Image,%20java.awt.Point,%20java.lang.String)
    Hope that helps.

  • Want a magnifying glass button in table maintenance

How can I get a magnifying glass button  in the table maintenance ??
help me out in this ASAP
    thanks in advance

    Hi Naval,
While creating the table maintanance , User 'two screen' Option button and specify two screens. The system will creates magnifying glass butoon automatically (Used for showning details of a record).
If you want your own functionality define a user defined module in PAI of maintanance screen and you can add your own button. It is little bit tricky.

Also you may hide url and other confidential details . A full screen shot and approach you have followed to design the page would help us to understand the issue

  • Magnifying glass icon in Apple's tutorials

Every time I click and watch a tutorial on Apple's website, a magnifying glass pops up and highlights buttons or key areas that the speaker is referring to. How and where is that tool created and used?

Thanks for the reply. I should have signed up for this discussion forum a long time ago!!
Ok, back to your question. I was on iLife 08, looking over a tutorial for iDVD 08. In the section on working with menus, the video shows you the new animated templates Apple has provided for you. During the video, the speaker emphasizes areas such as a button or menu option using a magnifying glass. It zooms in and zooms out very nicely. I know you can do that in After Effects, but was wondering if its built into OS X?

  • LR4 White balance tool changes to magnifying glass

I just upgrade to LR 4.  However  in the develop module, whenever I choose my white balance tool and then hover over the image it changes to the magnifying glass.  If I click, all it does is zoom in and out.  The circle where the WB tool lives, is blank like it usually is when the tool is selected.
I've checked for stuck keys and still have same result.
    Win 7 pro x64

hmm.. I posted on here. Left LR open and did some other stuff for a while.  Came back to color correct WB tool-less and vola all of a sudden it's working.  we'll see for how long

  • Magnifying glass search field versus initial characters scroll.

I don't want to use the "magnifying glass" search field in iTunes window. I prefer to type the first few characters and iTunes scrolls there. With most recent update, I can no longer do this. Any advice on disabling the magnifying glass? (Previously, you just had to mouse click outside of the magnifying glass search box anywhere in iTunes to disable. This no longer works for me.)

    1. Brief description of bad behavior.
    2. Steps to repeat bad behavior.
    3. Frequency of triggering bad behavior (ie, 1/5 tries vs 3/5 tries vs 5/5 tries)
If we can get this data from you on your first post of distress, we may be able to greatly reduce lag time in repeating the bad behavior in-house, and may get a fix that much more quickly.
