Create a Raid to be used in VISTA

Need some help on this raid. I am running Vista on a MacPro, I want to raid two 500gig external dives.
The raid is just to read files off of. So this is not an OS install thread.
In disk management, I have deleted the volumes, than created a new stripe, selected both drives I want to raid. Assigned a letter, than clicked ok, "There is not enough space on this disk(s) to complete this operation"
So I did it again but allocated only 10 gigs per drive to see what was up. Same out of space error?
For this test I had two internal drives, and the two external drives to raid. No luck? The drives are brand new. Any help would be great

nope, don't need to it be cross platform. I think the poster was just trying to give me a work around since he was not familiar with VISTA or how to raid?
All I need is to figure out how to raid two drives in VISTA for external use? The issue I have is, "not enough space on the disk to complete this operation"
I have a 2 500 gig drives. I have tried creating a 1T raid, a 500gig raid and a 20 gig raid. All produce the same error? I have screen grabs of everything. I have bought a raid, but now I can not use it. The raid works fine in OSX. All my expensive software is run on the PC though. All I want to do is a simple raid.
Humm? Hope someone can help me out with this soon! I am so stuck

  • Unable to create a single larger partition using diskpart

    Hello,
I am fairly new to Windows server management.
I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 RDP machine on Amazon EC2 cloud. I have about 10 different partitions which are 8GB each. I would like to merge them all and create a single larger partition. I know diskpart generally does the trick (as per forums) but in
    this case it hasn't.
I have converted three 8GB partitions into dynamic disks and I then I type the following command in diskpart:
create volume raid disk = 4,5,6
    which gives me the following:
    Virtual Disk Service error:
The size of the extent is less than the minimum.
I do not understand why is this happening. Would someone please be able to throw some light on this issue?
I would eventually want to add 6*1TB partitions and then merge them into a single large partition of 5TB (I got to know that 1TB will be reserved for parity).
I also tried running the following command:
    create volume raid size=10000 disk = 4,5,6
    and got the following:
The volume you have specified is too big for the specified disk(s).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

    Hi,
    Command line:
Create volume raid used to create a RAID-5 volume using three or more specified dynamic disks.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/pt-pt/library/cc731343(v=WS.10).aspx
Partitions does not equal to disks.
If you do not familiar with Diskpart, you can use Disk Management to perform the same tasks.

  • Creating a Striped Raid from two used disks

I have *2 internal 300GB drives* in my G5. My start up disk has *4GB left* and my second drive has *80GB remaining*.
I want to make a *striped Raid* of the two disks to allow me to use the remaining 84GB as startup space.
I am guessing that if I backup the second drive and erase it I can add it to my startup disk without loosing its information and create the RAID. Is this the case?
Can anyone give me any pointers for the process and are there any draw backs to having a striped raid as a start up disk.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me with this!

Are you using bootcamp for Windows?
Unless something has changed, if your startup disk is a raid (of any flavor), Windows will not see it.
You'll have to use the option key at startup to switch back to X.
If you are using sheepshaver or similar for OS9, 9 will not see the raid.
Both are minor, but can be annoying.
I believe you need 3 disks for a striped raid.
2 for the actual raid, and the 3rd for parity.
This setup allows for data recovery in case of failure.
a 2 disk raid striped is subject to data loss if one of the drives fails.
If I recsll correctly, both drives will be formatted during the raid creation process.

  • Using windows vista and all the graphics i create the colours look blurry?

    Hi everyone,
I have just started using windows vista and i have noticed
that when i create graphics using fireworks 8 that when i view them
either on dreamweaver 8 or just using the windows viewer that the
graphics and colours in the graphics look very blurry?? Does anyone
know why this should be? As i was creating graphics successfully
before with fireworks 8 when i was using windows xp and had none of
    these problems at all.
Any advice would be most welcome.
    Many thanks,
    Gordon.

Fireworks is not compatible with Aero. So, whenever you start
    Fireworks,
Vista will warn you that Areo will not work and to use
    Fireworks you must
disable it. Once you close Fireworks, Vista will
    automatically re-enable
Aero. Obviously not a huge issue, but it is kind of annoying
    for the screen
to flicker and lose all your pretty eye candy every time
    Fireworks starts.

  • Creating a RAID 1

I had a mirrored RAID where one of the drives failed.  I've backed up the data and broken the RAID.  I'd like to create a new RAID with the good drive from the old RAID and a new drive.  When I create the RAID, will the Disk Utility ask me which drive has the data that I want to keep?  Or will it erase both drives and give me a blank RAID?
I'm hesitant to hit that "Create" button until I know what happens next.  I'm running 10.8.3.
    Thanks!

Did you simply remove one drive (and nothing more) ?
If so, your RAID should still exist, but be in a "Degraded" state, and you can proceed to add a drive and rebuild.
or did you actively type Terminal commands to eliminate the RAID?
The bottom line is: What shows in Disk Utility? Is there a RAID?
If not, you will need two (empty) drives to create a new one from your Backups using Disk Utility.
If you are willing to learn about some esoteric Terminal commands, there is a somewhat risky way to create a one-drive Mirrored RAID that can be upgraded by adding an empty drive later.

  • Cure for crash after creating a RAID group on external drives?

I tried creating a RAID 1 mirror group on a pair of Western Digital Studio LX Firewire-attached 2 TB external drives (new), and Lion crashed with the RAID code on the stack (according to the crash report).   The system always crashes the same way if I connect even one of the drives, at boot time or later.  The RAID group was of the whole drives, not a pair of partitions.   I was using a Mac Mini, but I expect my MacBook, also running Lion, will crash the same way, if I try to attach the drives to repartion them.   I suppose I can attach the drives via USB to a Linux box to clobber the partition tables.
Is there a way to set up RAID 1 on Lion which does not lead to an immediate crash?
I have been a happy Mac user, but shipping with RAID 1 being so badly broken is really careless.   I expect a lot better.

I set up a mirror raid on two external USB drives, and set to 256k under osx 10.7.5 then got the full melt down
and the same every time i tried to reformat the drives.
I did notice a slight moment of time when opening disk utility before the crash!
    The following worked for me.
Start the computer, insert just one of the USB or Firewire drives then open disk utility.
Here is the key point as fast as you can select the drive icon as soon as it appears on the left  and hit the erase option
don't worry about the type of format select the t hit the erase button as quickly as you can and again as the prompt comes up are you sure you want to erase the disk.
Then repeat again on the second drive and then start the raid set up over again with blocks set at 128k.
Probably advised to unmount all other drives so you do not accidentally format the wrong drive given this is all about haste.
Really hope this helps and think it through as to how it relates to your set up.

  • How do I create a RAID 0 on a P43-C51 mainboard and Windows 7

I just upgraded my computer with a new MSI P43-C51 mainboard, Intel E8400 Dual Core and Windows 7.  I have two identical Western Digital 250GB SATA drives.  In my previous system, using Windows XP, I had the two drives configured in RAID 0.  I was unable to find the RAID drivers (and still haven't found them) for the RAID configuration so I erased the hard drives and started over new.  I have the system up and running and want to re-install Windows 7 but in RAID 0 format.  How do I do this?
I have downloaded the RAID drivers: Intel_HECI_MB.zip from the MSI download site but I haven't been able to use the software to create a RAID 0 configuration.
With my last board and XP, it was straight forward.  The old BIOS itself allowed the creation of a RAID 0 configuration and the board CD included the drivers for XP.  I am wondering if I overlooked something basic and my new board just doesn't support RAID.
Any advice or help would be appreciated and thank you in advance!

Thanks, that is what I suspected.  Now I have a good excuse to upgrade the hard drives to SATA II  !

  • Cannot do wifi sync after update IOS 6 using windows vista pc with itunes 10.7

I cannot do the wifi sync,I am using IPAD 3 with IOS 6.I heard people said to do synchronous wireless. It would work I using Windows Vista, then I using Itunes 10.7.Somebody can help me  to solve these problem or give me feedback to solve these problem.

Like many others, most of the the workarounds I tried worked but for awhile only and/or not reliably. After more googling and trial and error, I finally ended up with a somewhat reliable solution using the below 2 changes. (I am running up-to-date Win7 with an Ipad2 and an Iphone5 both on ios 6 + and up-to-date Itunes software on the PC).
    1)  Disable IPv6 on the wireless adapter (see CKNairb's earlier post)
    2)   Create a bat file which stops and starts the "Apple Mobile Device" service, then starts Itunes
The bat file can be placed in any dir and a desktop shortcut created to point to it in order to easily start Itunes (right-clicking properties of the shortcut and clicking "Change Icon" will even allow the selection of the Itunes icon to make it look just right :-) )
The bat file should contain these lines:
    net stop "Apple Mobile Device"
    net start "Apple Mobile Device"
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.exe"
Edit accordingly as to whether your Itunes.exe resides in \Program (x86) or \Program.
By starting Itunes using this shortcut/bat file, you will ensure that the Mobile Device service is up and running when Itunes attempts to locate the devices wirelessly - this seems to be the key issue here.
Although it is not 100% reliable, I would say that both devices are detected and synced 90% of the time. (Itunes will always find one of the 2 devices).
Anyways, based on all I have gone through to get this work, I am willing to settle for "almost reliable" solution - hopefully this may work for others as well.
    Happy syncing!

  • How do I change authorization in adobe digital editions using windows vista

How do I change authorization in adobe digital editions using windows vista?
When I try ctrl alt delete, I get the blue windows log in sceen.  How do I get past the log in screen to use the ctrl alt delete to change authorization for the adobe digital editions screen.

Adobe apps can be reset to their factory defaults by using Ctrl+Alt+Shift, not Del. The rest doesn't really make any sense since you did not provide any details and authorizations can't be changed that way, anyway. If you want to transfer books to other devices you need to contact the vendors to release the DRM/ provide a new download and if you want to change the registered ID, you need to contact support or create a completely new account, which in turn will require you to buy your DRM managed books again/ get a new download as well.

  • RAID 0+1 using ExpressCard/34 with double eSata

I have a problem, and maybe someone here can help me a bit. Many thanks in advance.
I am doing a lot of RAW photo editing and also sometimes video processing. I want my pictures and video to be stored on an external hard drive connected to my MAC BOOK PRO using ExpressCard/34 and at the same time I want to have continuous backup of my files. I am thinking of playing a bit with RAID 0+1. Here is my plan:
I am planning to buy two WD My Book® Studio Edition™ II 1TB external drives (http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=409). The drive itself operates as RAID 0 (striped) build from two drives 500 GB each - I understand that this way it is faster than one 1TB drive. I think of connecting these two drives to my Mac Book Pro using eSata Interface using eSATA II 2-Port ExpressCard-M form SIIG (http://siig.com/ViewProduct.aspx?pn=SC-SAEE12-S1 - seems to be recommended by WD). Then, by using Disk Utility, I plan to create a RAID 1 (mirrored) set consisting of these two external drives.
What I am expecting is to have something like RAID 0+1 and I expect this to be a better (faster) solution than buying one big WD My Book® Studio Edition™ II 2TB (2x1T internally) and using it in the RAID 1 configuration (which can be set by using the software provided by WD with the drive).
If anyone have some experience with RAID (main is close to 0) then I would be very thankful to read your comments.
I expect the configuration with 2 external drives connected via eSata to be faster than one 2TB (2x1TB) drive working in RAID 1 configuration. I am also wondering if my "RAID 0+1" will be much slower than one WD 1TB external drive (which is 2 drives working as RAID 0) or this is still comparable.
Thank you for your help. Much appreciated !
    Marcin

    Hi Danny,
Yes, I did read it, but it did not address my particular situation - i.e. all four drives connected to the promise controller.  The bits that do seemed to be saying "look at the manual", which isn't helping me.  Last night, I updated the mainboard bios to 2.4, which didn't make any difference, so I'm still stuck.
Thanks for taking the time to reply

  • Z77A-GD65: Disks shown but not selectable on creating a RAID volume

    Mainboard: Z77A-GD65
    CPU: Intel Core i7 3770K
    RAM: 2x Corsair DDR3-1600 XMS3 4GB
    HDDs: 2x Seagate Barracuda SATA3 7200.12 6GB/s
Upgraded System with new MB etc. yesterday and removed the old HDD.
After enabling RAID in BIOS, I went to the RAID settings with Ctrl+I. The RAID setup displays both HDDs with correct description and storage size, but when I was trying to create a new RAID volume the "disc selection" option is not selectable unless "Recovery" is chosen as RAID level. On RAID level "Recovery" both disks are selectable but no RAID volume is created during the process. When RAID level 0 or 1 is chosen still the correct size of the potential volume is calculated by the RAID setup.
Additionally, I tried the same procedure with both "RAID hot-plug" enabled and disabled in BIOS.
The HDDs are plugged into SATA-ports 1+2. No OS installed yet.

After several unsuccessful attempts of formatting and partitioning the disks, I installed the OS. Subsequent use of the thereafter installed Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST) enabled me to created the RAID volume under Windows, which is now additionally shown on the IRST page after the POST screen.
So the RAID volume creation worked, but it still takes me wonder why I haven't been able to do this after the POST screen in the first place  .
Well, problem still kind of solved.

cant download itunes 10 using windows vista erroe about installation of assembly

These ones are typically caused by underlying problems on the PC that also often cause Windows Updates to fail to install. If we can fix the Windows Update trouble, we can usually get the iTunes trouble cleaned up en passant.
Go into your Windows update and try to check for new updates. If updates install, stock up on the ones you're behind on, restarting the PC if requested to do so. After the restart, try installing iTunes again. Does it go through this time for you?
If windows updates fail to install, go into your Update History and doubleclick the failures. What alphanumeric codes appear for you? (For example, 8007000B.)

Until recently I have owed 2 iPod Classics - 2007 80gb and 2009 160gb (which has since been returned as it had a very noisy hard drive).
How do I transfer the library from the 160gb  to the 80gb in iTunes using Windows Vista.
Nothing seems to help on the Apple support pages, so any help would be appreciated
    Thanks

Thanks for the reply, but not actually sure how to sync a second iPod with the library of the first, as I thought it would not recognise a new iPod for copyright reasons.
Also, the files are in a location on the pc but I had to do lots of formatting amendments in iTunes as most of the stuff was on mp3 files and the formatting was all over the place. I did not want to loose any of the work by simply asking the new iPod to look at the original file and would rather copy en masse from one device to another.
Any help or pointers greatly appreciated
    Thanks
