Create a VHD in Windows 2000
I want to create a VHD of a disk that is on an old Windows 2000 system.
Is there any software that does that?
Thanks.

Migrating roaming profile from Windows 2000 TS to Windows 2008 R2 RDS
We have one TS running on Windows 2000. There are over 200 TS users. We are planning to migrate it to Windows 2008 R2. What's the easy way to migrate the roaming profile? Base on this article
Support guidelines for migrating
roaming user profiles data to ...
Generally, user profiles that you create for users in Windows 2000, ... Server 2003 roaming user profile on Windows Vista or on Windows Server
2008. ... These methods migrate the
roaming profile data to the new Version 2 user profile format ...
support.microsoft.com
support.microsoft.com/kb/947025
There are two methods to migrate roaming profile. "Method 2: Use the Folder Redirection feature to share data between Version 1 and Version 2 user profiles" doesn't "migrate the desktop settings and preferences such as wallpaper because of
the differences in the operating systems". That isn't for us.
"Method 1: Use the User State Migration Tool to migrate profile data to the new format (Windows Vista Only)" is recommend that you the User State Migration Tool (USMT) to migrate profile data in the following scenarios:
You do not use roaming user profiles or folder redirection.
You want to enable a more full-featured migration of user profile data from Windows 2000-based or from Windows XP-based systems to Windows Vista-based systems.
Note The User State Migraton Tool will not function on Windows Server 2008.
So the method 1 doesn't work. Any suggestions?

CreateSparseDisk error using Convert-WindowsImage.ps1 to create VHD for Windows 10 Preview
I have been trying to use convert-windowsimage.ps1 to create a Windows 10 .VHD under Windows 8.1 (inside VirtualBox)
.\convert-windowsimage.ps1 -Sourcepath .\install.wim -Edition Professional -VHDFormat VHD -DiskType Fixed -SizeBytes 40GB -VHDPath .\Win10Previewx64.vhd
This returns:
ERROR : Exception calling "CreateFixedDisk" with "4" argument(s): "The parameter is incorrect"
I get a similar error if I accept the default to create a sparse disk and the default SizeBytes value.
I did notice when typing the command in the ISE that most of the parameter values turn purple, but with SizeBytes 40GB changes back to cream when you add the B of GB - I'm not sure if this is relevant. The code does appear to expect GB TB or KB.Post questions about scripts to the author here:

Any Ideas?OK, Thanks, I will try that.

New Virtual hard disk wizard hangs after creating new vhd from huper-v manager on windows 7
New Virtual hard disk wizard hangs after creating new vhd from huper-v manager on windows 7 workstation.
Windows 2008r2 hosts the hyper-v server. I can create VMs and VHD's when connecting to the server locally with the hyper-v manager.
The issue arises when I try to connect to the hyper-v server from my workstation which runs windows 7.
I have installed The Windows6.1-KB958830-x64-RefreshPkg.msu that was suggested for windows 7 sp1.
I can connect to the hyper-v server, create vm's but I cannot create vhd's the gui just hangs with no errors in event log or on screen.
The files are there on the hyper-v hard drive but i suspect they are just created by windows as they are written and are not valid.I've had just the same solution. Both did Hang Fixed size and flexible.
Two parts were taken:
1 - KB939820 for Windows 2003 server based domain controllers
2 - disable using IPv6 on your NIC
Result - both types of VHD's are created normaly.
-----Infrastructure----
Windows 2003 Domain upgtraded to 2008R2
Windows Server 2008R2 Hyper-V - virtualisation clustered
Windows 7 Pro - Hyper-V management

I would like to p2V a Windows 2000 SP4 running on a Dell PE 750. I have searched many forums and no one seems to have an answer to do this and suggest other ways to get around this, right on MS documentation it shows that an offline conversion is supported.
I don't plan on upgrading Server software and I do not want to do a backup/restore to new image.
Information I am looking for
What Host OS and Hyper-V version do I need to do this with?
Where can I find step by step instructions? You can succesfully perfrom the P2V using Disk2Vhd -
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/sysinternals/ee656415.aspx
Just make sure to stop any running services such as SQL before perfroming the P2V to make sure that no Data is changed or updated during the conversion.
Disk2Vhd does not Support Windows 2000. This tool uses VSS and VSS is not available at Windows 2000.
Only offline conversion is possible with Disk2Vhd
http://www.tekronin.net/2014/01/13/windows-server-2000-p2v-with-disk2vhd/
Make sure that your grandpa server is running on W2K SP4.
Shutdown the server and take off the hard disk.
Install the hard disk on a computer with Windows XP (anything above that is OK too)
Boot up the second computer and make a note of the new volumes.
Download Disk2VHD exe from
here
Create VHDs as you want. You can save them to a local drive or if you have a fast network (from my experience 1 Gbps LAN connection would save a 40 GB hard disk in a matter of 15 minutes via network) you can use an existing shared
folder. I still prefer to save to VHD format for Windows 2000.

Problem with oracle 8i installation on windows 2000 pro
Hi all
i'm installing oracle 8i enterprize edition on windows 2000 professional.
At the end of the installation,in the configuration tools step when it says that
the following tools will be automatically started for you etc...
the oracle database configuration assistant keep failing and i get the following message in the text file dbSilentCreate
< 8I\starterdb is an invalid command line argument. >
what should i do? anyone familiar with this problem ?
ConstancioThis should be a workaround for your problem. Let me know if it works or not.
1. Create a temporary directory on your server.
2. Copy the contents of the Oracle RDBMS Server CD to the temporary directory created in step 1.
3. Search the directory structure created in step 1 for the existence of the filename symcjit.dll.
4. Rename each copy of the symcjit.dll to symcjit.old.
5. Run the setup.exe from the \install\win32 directory and install Oracle 8.1.x. -

Can anyone help me, I'd really like to try this software out.
Thanks,
David.David,
Can you try passing in the 1.5 VM location manually as listed below
WorkshopInstaller.exe LAX_VM d:\bea\9server\jdk150_04\bin\java.exe
Can you also make sure that the 1.5 JVM value entry is the first entry in the PATH environment variable.
cheers

How do I connect a Windows 2000 PC desktop to my home network (laptop mac)
Hi,
Sorry to be such a novice. I have created a wireless network with an airport express. My Macintosh laptop can connect to it without a problem and can access the internet. Next step is I want to connect my desktop PC (running Windows 2000) so that it can also connect to the internet using the wireless connection.
Do I need special equipment so the desktop can find the airport express network? How do I set it up on the PC?
Also - does anyone know the easiest way to connect a TIVO to the home network as well?
Thanks for any guidance!
-LoriYour PC needs to have the ability to join a 802.11b/g compatible network. If it doesn't have that hardware ability, you will need to add a wireless card or wireless adapter.

How can I disable the access to windows 2000(O.S.) from LabView?
I need to disable the access to windows when an application (exe), created by LabView, is running. When the application is running, the user can not acces to windows (for example, execute another application) until he stops the application.
I am using LabView 6.1 and windows 2000
Many ThanksHi Francesc,
There are a couple of options for this. One of them could be calling Windows OS activex components and making the Desktop invisible through labVIEW and then bringing it back on after the LabVIEW execution is stopped.
The other option is to modify user settings on the target machine. I have tried this on windows 2000 and it works.
Run "gpedit.msc" from your start menu. In the Group Policy template choose the user configuration that you wish to make the settings for. Expand User Configuration , expand Administrative Templates , and then expand System. Choose 'Custom user interface'
In this panel select 'Enabled' and enter the interface file name, in this case C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Labview 6.1.exe. (or your own filepath\App
lication.exe). Reboot the machine.
This replaces the default windows shell (explorer.exe) with your LabVIEW executable. When the operator logs on, the only thing on his screen is the Labview application. No desktop, no taskbar, no start button.
This can also be done through LabVIEW using register-level programming. But it would be a more complex approach.
Hope this helps.

Should I be able to reliable automate Excel 2000 on a Windows 2000 PC using Labview 7?
I am trying to automate Excel 2000 from Labview 7. I want to open an Excel application, open an existing workbook or create a new workbook, create a new sheet, save and exit. When using the Labview 7 .vi's I can create a new workbook, etc, and everything works fine. When the case in my program for existing file executes I can start Excel but I cannot open an existing worksheet (error -2146959355). I've selected a file using the labview file dialogue just to ensure spelling, case, etc but it always fails on the "open specific workbook" sub .vi and the first error is on the output of the "invoke node".
Out of curiosity I tried doing this in Labview 6.1 and after a cursory check ev
erything seems to work ok using the exact same sequence of .vi's. I am running Excel 2000 on Windows 2000. Should there be a compatibility issue? Would using the version 6.1 vi's within Labview 7 be a clean solution?
Thanks in advanceThanks for responding.
I made a little vi to illustrate the problem.
The two sub .vi's I'm including with the main .vi are simply the renamed Version 6.1 and Version 7 "open specific workbook" .vi's. The main .vi was made in Version 7. All the other sub .vi's are V 7.
On my PC (Windows 2000 and Excel 2000) when the switch is set to "Version 6.1" it consistenly runs fine, set to "Version 7" it consistently fails.
I am very stumped! I've gone so far as to copy the V7 .llb from a different installation just in case something got corrupted somehow.

Error while Installing Oracle 8i on windows 2000 box
When trying to install the Oracle 8i software, I get the following error from the event log:
The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( PctSpk ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following information is part of the event: PctSpk error: 1063, StartServiceCtrlDispatcher failed..
If anyone have suggestions to solving my problems, please advise.
Note: I've started all possible services that I could think of.Definitely 8i won't work with windows vista. 10gR2 (10.2.0.1.0) was not certified to run against vista, Oracle had to release an specific 10.2.0.3.0 for Windows Vista. Previous releases are Not supported at all and there are no plans to support them.
If you are planning to use 8i on your Vista OS, it won't be possible, but you can create a Virtual Machine with a supported guest OS for 8i, Windows 2000 is certified for 8i, Windows XP is not supported for 8i, but I have been working with it for years without any issue (this is not a suggestion for production environments).

I am not sure but I think the problem is with the allocated shared memory size, which right now is:
<b>init.ora</b>
shared_pool_size = 67108864
<b>init<SID>.ora</b>
shared_pool_size = 90112000
shared_pool_reserved_size = 9011200
If this is the cause of the problem then how much should i increase it to? and do i need to modify the size in both files or only init<SID>.ora? Is there any SAP Note related to this problem? Thanks.
Regards,Hi Vasu,
ORA-4031... for 99% of cases this means one thing:
the database instance is not configured correctly.
To proceed, do the following:
1. get rid of init.ora (it's not used at all)
2. make sure that the init<sid>.ora file is really used.
If there is a spfile in the %ORACLE_HOME&/database folder
then this will be used.
3. With your configured shared pool of 85MB your memory should really not be filled up - anyhow it's really too small for a SAP system!
Thus I'd check how much memory the other sga-area members (buffer cache, large pool, streams pool, java pool...) take up.
Remember on Windows 32 Bit, everything runs in one single process that can only allocate 2GB (or 3GB if you've set this option).

And when you're setting up parameters anyway, check note

Problems with JFileChooser and Windows 2000 (can't see mydocuments contents
Hi! I've an applet which has a JFileChooser component. In other Windows, I can select the MyDocuments folder and it goes there and list all the contents OK. But, in Windows 2000, when I go to MyDocuments, none of the contents is listed in the file chooser. I need to navigate through all the directories to get there (C:\documents and settings\user\my documents) and then, it shows its contents, but obviously, I don't want it to be this way because is difficult for the common user.
Any idea of why is going on this?
Thanks in advance!Hello, You need to use something like o=isp as the
root DN, then o=yourorg.com goes beneath it.
i.e.
For the other questions on setup, just choose o=isp
as base DN when you set up the directory server. When
you run ims_dssetup.pl, choose o=internet as the DC
tree base, then choose o=isp as the user/groups base
suffix.
When you are installing messaging server it will ask
where to put the default organization, this is where
you would choose o=abc.com, o=isp
For more info on how this structure works please take
a look at this link and it will all fit into place:
http://docs.sun.com/source/816-6017-10/changes.htm#170
8Alright, I got ims_dssetup to run successfully. But now when the ims 5.2 installation is about 50% done, I get the message:
A serious problem occurred while installing the iPlanet Messaging Server Messaging SIE entry in LDAP (msg.cfgldap.sie.inf). It reported the following problem:
The server configuration for the Messaging SIE entry in LDAP (msg.cfgldap.sie.inf) cannot be created.

Idle Processes, network timeouts ISL
Is there any way to determine the length of time a client or process has been idle rather than merely if it is idle? How does the ISL determine which connections have been idle when invoking it's network timeout value? Regards, Steven M. Hill
