Create a wifi network with 3G iPad 2

Is it possible to create a wifi network using your 3G on a iPad 2 like you can with iPhone 4s???

Open the Sharing pane of System Preferences and enable Internet Sharing over AirPort.

  • Create second wifi network with WRT54GL?

I have DSL with a Comtrend router/wifi (WIFI1).  I would like to connect the WRT54GL to the physical network and have it create a separate wifi network (WIFI2), so my laptop will connect to WIFI2, get passed to the LAN and on to the Internet.
Cant make this work - tried setting up the WRT for DHCP server, DHCP passthrough (to the comtrend), and the best I can do is get connected to WIFI2 and have access to the LAN but not the Internet.
Ultimately I want to put a high gain antenna on the WRT to make it reach another building about 400' away and do away with comtrends horrible WIFI, but I cant get to first base.  Can anyone help?
    thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You can set it up this way: comtrend as main router with Wifi1 and DHCP enabled then connect the Linksys wireless router with its DHCP disabled and with Wifi2. Example, if IP Address of the first router is 192.168.1.1, set the Linksys IP Address to 192.168.1.2 and both will be connected via LAN-LAN or Ethernet to Ethernet. Check this link and read the LAN-LAN setup http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=785463d9ecaf4cac84aed245b08d615f_3733.xml&pid=80&r...
. I suggest also that before you disable the DHCP server on the Linksys router you set up first its wireless settings.

  • Very poor connection with wifi network with mini iPad.

I recently bought à new mini iPad. The connection with wifi network is lost very often  and therefor not Stable. I tried the tips such as forgetting the network and connecting again, but that doesn't help. What can I do?

    Do #5.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • How to create a wifi network with airport express in hotel room?

When I'm traveling to hotels that have internet, but not wifi, how do I set up a network using airport express?  When I've done this at home, I've used my laptop with the airport utility.  Can I do it with just an iPad?

Yes, you can use the Airport Utility for iPad here:
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/airport-utility/id427276530?mt=8

  • My airport is connected to an Ethernet cable and I have created a wifi network but my iPad and I phone can't seem to join it. They just keep trying. What's wrong?? Help!

I have just bought an airport express to connect to the Ethernet cable in my cabin. It's all set up all lights green and I've set up my wifi connection. But when I try to connect my I pad 3 or my iPhone 4 it finds the network but cannot seem to join it. Can anyone help?

    Hello Lucy:
As I am not on the ship, I am "fishing" to see if I am able to help.
On the ships (cruise type) I have been on, there is usually a secure "ship" wi-fi network (as well as one that passengers may use for a fee) that needs a password to join.
On your iPad, go to settings and then tap Wi-Fi.  What network are you connected to?
When you plugged in your Airport Express, you should have been prompted for settings...including security.

  • I have just converted from PC to iMac. Yay. But pls be nice to me; I am back to newb! Running Lion. Have connected a Time Capsule as both a backup and WAP. I want to be able to join the network with my iPad, iPhone, iPod to print. How can I do this?

Can I do this using the Time Capsule. I am not tech, so bear with me. Can I get the iPad to connect wirelessly to the TC, which connects wirelessly to the Canon MP495? Or, can I connect/network the iPad to the iMac to print?
Either way, or if there is any other solution, I would appreciate if someone would walk me through it, or point me to a plain-speaking resource.
    Thankyou.
Actually, one more: I would like to connect my HP laptop as well. I have heard this is not simple, but possible.

You can create a wifi network with your TC, and you can join this network with your iPad. However, your printer does not support the AirPrint protocol, so you will not be able to print from your iPad, unless you load additional software.
    These are the steps:
    1.  (You may have completed this step already) Set up your TC to create a wireless network. You can do this from AirPort Utility on your Mac or from the AirPort Utility App on your iPad (free download from the App Store).
    2. From your iPad, go to settings / wifi and join the network.
    3. Download the Canon iPhone App from the App store on your iPad
    4. You can now print photos from your iPad to your Canon printer.
If you want full functionality, (not just photos), there is software for your Mac that makes your printer available to your iPad through AirPrint (Printopia). The downside is, you have to purchase it, and you have to have your Mac running when you want to print from your iPad.
    Good luck!

  • New download of keynote files when changing wifi network with iPad

When i change the Wifi Network with my ipad3 (without 3G) it always starts to download the keynote, numbers and pages files from the iCloud. You can't open any file until its downloaded again, you just see the Folder and the file as a placeholder.
In my opinion this Akers totally no sense. I expect a synchronization between iPad and the iCloud like it woks with mail, kalender.  Even dropbox just downloads the file you select for use. In my case I have 64 files only in keynote, created on the iPad and eaven without changing something it will re download all files from the iCloud before I can use them.
    Anybodydid the same experience ?
Is this a bug or a really shh.... Feature?

No that's not my experience, it's clearly not working as it should. Perhaps you should restore your iPad.

  • Wifi problems with new ipad

I'm trying to learn how to correct wifi problems with new iPad.  It is the wifi only, 64GB model.  I want to be able to use it at work, where we have a great wifi network.  I can usually connect to our network with no problem, but after an hour or so my iPad loses the network.  When I try to reconnect, I see that the network is showing full strength reception, but I get the error message from the iPad that I am "Unable to join" the network.  My iPhone connects to the same network seamlessly, as do all of the other iPhones of my co-workers and the older generation iPads that some of our staff has.
At other locations, I typically have no problems (home, apple store, etc.) but I have had the same situation pop up at a coffee shop where I could see that there was a wifi network available, but I could not join it even though it was the shop's free wifi.
I have tried turning the iPad off, turning off wifi and turning it back on again, and forgetting the wifi network in question.  I can't think of any other methods that are available to an end user to correct the problem.
I have already gone to the Apple store to swap out the unit, and the newer one is having the same symptoms.
Can anyone offer any advice here?  This is quite frustrating.

No problem! Have a read at this most interesting article which has special significance as regards your models!

  • Using Time Capsule to create a wifi network from a Powerline Adaptor

OK, before I ask my question, I just have to 'paint the picture'.
I live in a work residential complex, with wifi provided. However this wifi is awfully weak, to the point that I can only sit in one spot to receive it, and then it still drops out. I tried using an airport express to extend the signal, but the wifi router won't allow it.
Through the company that provide the service, I am know using a powerline adaptor ( you know the sort; one ethernet cable from router to adaptor, and another from adaptor in room to laptop) and I get broadband.
I'd like to find some way of getting wifi from that, to my mbp, iphone and appletv all on the same network.
Ok, the crux, I want to buy a Time Capsule, if I do so, by plugging the ethernet cable from powerline into it, will I be able to create a wifi network that 1. Allows devices to connect to it, and 2. Access the Broadband service.
    Hope that's clear ;-)

    Yes and yes.

  • My macbook is connecting to a wifi network, but my ipad in the same room does not recognize it.

my macbook is connecting to a wifi network, but my ipad in the same room does not recognize it.  I have reset the ipad settings, etc.  Any ideas?

Try a restart of your entire system. Shut down both your modem and your router if they are two separate devices. Then restart each item one at a time with about three minutes between each device.
Also reset the iPad by pressing and holding the Start and Home keys together, ignoring there'd slider until the Apple logo appears.
