Create action with entered text?

Is there a way to create an action in PS CS3 with the ability to type different words in the middle of the action?
For ex, I have a series of steps, then need to save the image to 2 different sizes/resolutions, with a different name. So I want the action to run, stop where I type in the name for the hi-res, continue, then stop where I type in the name for the lo-res, then finish the steps desired. Is this possible?

Just click the 'toggle dialog' box next to the action step 'save'´to make the action stop at the save interface.

As one step in an action I create a text layer. I need to pause the action so the user can enter text in the layer. I can pause the action by clicking the Enable Dialog icon to the left of the Create Text Layer step. However, I cannot find a way to continue executing the action after entering the text. What is the right way to do this? Thanks.

The Enter key i was referring to is the one grouped with the numeric keypad pad on the far right of the keyboard.
Even though some keyboards have an Enter key grouped with the other main keys, that is really the Return key and is mislabeled
If ones keyboard doesn't have a true enter key, then one can press Ctrl+Enter (windows) or Command+Enter (mac)

Can you create a user entered text field that flows content in a subform?

I am working on a conversion project taking a document library of over 600 forms from Word into PDF, for the most part it's simple and binding fields to the database schema and using subforms is working quite well - however, there are some instances where there is a combination of user entered fields mixed with database fields and in some cases the end user fields are all there are but the amount of content can vary from 250 characters to thousands. The project manager wants a PDF that enables users to enter whatever amount of text they need to and have the form layout function the way it does as if all fields were populated by the database - I don't know of a way to make that work unless content is entered in the schema first (or implement CM and have all users working in LiveCycle, but the database uses PDF, sothat's not an option right now).
If anyone has any ideas how to make these things work I would greatly appreciate hearing about it.

    If you can post your form in the post, I can have a look at it and provide my feedback.
    I created a sample file for your reference..
    1) The Content property for the Page1 was set to Flowed.
    2) Each text box is placed inside a Subform which is also has the content property set to Flowed.
    3) In the Form Properties, under the Default tab, set the PDF render format as Dynamic XML form.
    4) In the Form Properties, under the Preview tab, set the Preview Type as "Interactive Form" and Preview Adobe XML Form as "Dynamic XML form". (this step is for the previewing the PDF in the designer).
    5) Finally save the form as Dynamic XML form. (File Menu -> Save As).

Really weird Network errors with AD after create actions with IdM 5.5

I am struggling with the AD after actions.
Customers AD support insist that the Gateway is not installed on any domain controller or fileserver in the AD forrest. The customer would like the homeDirectory and share to be created on the fileserver at the same time as the account is created on the domain controller.
The GW service is started as the domain admin - logon account is test\Administrator not the default "localsystem"
I map the gateway's local drive Z: to c$ of the fileserver. net use from command prompt shows its status is OK.
I can net use and any other net command ok from command line. Commands like:
md z:\data\home
rmtshare \\fileserver\c:\data\home\....etc etc...
succeed even when driven from within the gateway C++ program. However, when the DOS command 'net use' is run by the gateway then when I examine the log, I see the response block:

The net use command gives me error 1222 - no network present.
If anyone has successfully created remote directories and shares from the after action could you let me know what special WINS DNS permissions are needed.

Got that but still having problems with the customer test setup.
In our test AD environment we have 2 machines: the DC named anchor.dog.ad3.palm and a workstation named steam.dog.ad3.palm
The workstation has the gateway service and it runs under the account dog\Administrator the domain admin.
Ok. I can issue these commands via this <act> </act> block quite ok in our test environment.

I can see things go aok at home. Where local disk Z: is mapped to \\anchor.dog.ad3.palm\c$
At customer they have a VMware setup for testing. The AD dc is one virtual machine and the GW is on a second virtual machine. domain there is test.local.
If I type the md and rmtshare and cacls in the GW dos command prompt window they succeed, but when run via the gateway the net use command shows Z: as Unavailable.
Has anyone met this problem before?
Its a messy situation here as the customer has outsourced their AD admin... these people insist on the GW not being on any DC. In their view since it works from command line there is no problem with the AD setup.

Newbie needs help on creating banner with vanishing text.

I have never used Flash before. I may even be barking up the wrong tree. I am trying to create a banner that has text that "appears" and then "disappears". This is the mockup I made for the banner. I would like for the sentences to seem like they are coming out of the couds, and then vanishing. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks Ned! I did what you said and now have the words animated like I need to. But I am still having one problem. I'm not sure how to get my background to be visible through the entire animation. I can see it in the first frame and then it disappears.

Creating Actions

Is it possible to create actions in PSE 9, or do you have to the real Photoshop to do that? I know that I can install them in PSE 9, and I've found them quite useful, but I think it would be fun to create some of my own! Thanks.

Unfortunately, it's not possible to create actions with Elements, that has to be done in Photoshop.

Can I associate a right-click action w/ a text entry button?

Is there a way to associate a right-click action with a text
entry button? I tried to do a shift-F10 (windows equivalent) but it
wasn't recognized. I suspect it is not possible, but thought I

ALV report editable to enter text and print with including the text?

I have to display output of a report in ALV format and i have to make two fileds can be editable to enter texts by user and able to print the list with that texts .
Is it possible using standard Function modules or I have to go for OO methods? Please give the sample code ?

Can I use photoshop text styles and photoshop actions with creative cloud photography?

I'm really confused by this subscription pricing. If I purchase the $9.99/month, do I get the full desktop app of Photoshop and Lightroom? But I see on this page Products they list something called Photoshop CC that costs twice as much. How is that different from the Creative Cloud Photography?
My main question is whether I can use photoshop text styles and photoshop actions with Creative Cloud Photography, since I just purchased a bundle that includes these and I want to be able to use them. But I'd also like to understand what comes with all of the various products and how they are different.
My other question is how is Lightroom different from Photoshop? I have a sense of what you can do in Photoshop but I don't know much about Lightroom at all.
One more question: the free trial -- is it limited in any way besides the time length? If I do that, will I get a clear idea of all that I will be able to do once I subscribe, or are the functions limited in the trial?
I tried to just send an email to Adobe to ask these questions but apparently they are not interested in responding to emails from people who are not yet paying customers, so I was directed here. Thanks very much for your help!

What Adobe Bridge does:
Bridge is the coordinating hub of the Creative Suite. Synchronizing color management settings for all suite programs is done from Bridge, and can only be done from Bridge, to take one important use.
Bridge displays actual thumbnails of many more file types than Finder or Explorer. It also allows instant play of sound or video files more readily than the native OS file managers.
Bridge allows direct access to file metadata, to embed copyright information and keywords where appropriate (e.g., for corporate logo vector and raster files). It also displays the fonts used in an InDesign file, the swatches in an INDD or AI and the output plates (including spot color plates) they use.
When managing the assets for a design project, Bridge allows quick and simple sorting, rating and custom labeling (with color flash indications) of assets. I can rate images according to whether they are rejects, possibles, for review by client, or approved. The filters built into Bridge allow instant isolation of only the approved images or designs in a folder, only the rejects (for deletion) or only files with certain ratings, no matter how many files it contains. It recognizes aspect ratios, so if I only need a landscape or a 16:9 image in a folder of hundreds of images, I turn off the aspect ratios I don't need.
Once filtered, the remaining visible files can be selected and copied, moved, or deleted without affecting the rest of the contents of a folder.
Collections are a massively useful feature. One of my clients is a performing arts center, and in a season we turn out dozens of ads, flyers, brochures, web banners, playbills, billboards and other collateral using the same assets over and over. These assets are organized by artist and/or show on disk, but I set up each season's repeating assets as a Collection in Bridge, so that I just have to open the collection and drag and drop these assets into new INDD, AI, PSD, HTML (in Dreamweaver), FLA or AE projects without having to navigate from folder to folder picking up individual files.
Bridge's Favorites is another place I stack frequently-accessed folders, such as stock photography, backgrounds, and top-level folders for active projects.
Assets can be divided into subfolders, but a quick toggle of "Show items from subfolders" exposes all of the assets in a single view while maintaining their organization. I will typically keep AIs, PSDs, EPSs, stock photography and client images in separate subfolders within a project. When I'm ready to start pulling assets into an InDesign layout, I toggle this on and simply drag what I need into the layout.
Bridge comes with Adobe Camera Raw built in, which is many times faster than using Photoshop to adjust jpegs or tiffs for things like tonal range, white balance, cropping, spotting and sharpening, and is non-destructive.
One tremendously useful Bridge function for InDesign CS5+ users is the "Show linked files" feature, which opens all the linked files in a layout into a single view, regardless of where they are physically located. I often use this when doing alternative layouts from a client-approved mockup for a campaign, to be certain the same assets are used in each piece, or when creating a motion graphic or interactive piece for the campaign in After Effects or Flash.
The batch and image processing scripts built into Bridge automate things like creating web-ready small jpegs from multiple images, renaming large numbers of files in place or by copying to an alternative location, creating sets of PSD, png, jpeg or other file types from an assortment of image files, and so on.
Bridge is so much a part of my daily workflow that on my main workstation I have one monitor dedicated to it almost 100%. Bridge just sits open 24/7, ready for use. I would run at half speed without it, no question.

Hel with modifying cs5/6 script...create anchored frames from text

I have one great time saver script for cs5 for create anchored frames from text tagged with/or charachter style/paragraph style. This work in cs6 but have some "bugs" for me. Script need to be compatible with InDesign CS6.
1. script in original (look bellow) create text frame which is fitted to lenght of the text. I make change and change 466 line:

now frame is wide as I write in check box, good. But frame not resize to lenght of the text so I add after above lines 466-470:

How to resolve this?

указать ширину привязанного фрейма, а его высота будет рассчитана автоматически исходя из
объема текста. При вводе дробных значений ширины привязанного фрейма в качестве
разделителя целой и дробной части следует использовать не запятую, а точку, следуя западным
стандартам разработчиков программы Adobe InDesign. Первоначально идея и скрипт по созданию
привязанных фреймов принадлежит Thomas Silkjær для версии ID CS4. C появлением версий CS5
и CS5.5 скрипт перестал в них выполняться, да и в версии CS4 не всегда корректно работал.
Анализируя недочеты скрипта в данной его версии были исправлены ошибки и внесены
функциональные дополнения исходя из понимания задачи автором модификации. Добавлена
возможность выбора стилей, если они они находятся в группах (папках), возможность выбора
единиц измерения из выпадающего списка, изменены GREP-выражения для поиска текста,
область действия скрипта ограничена материалом (Story), а не документом.

Hi Cari,
I did create a new user account (admin level) and InDesign works like a charm.
When I went back to the other account, plug-ins gone, I deleted the prefs and caches, restarted and still everything is crashing as before.
At least I am working on one account and I will contiue to troubleshoot on the other account. And at some point either the new account will crash or the old account will work and I will go from there.

CS3: how to create action to add fixed text of foreground color, etc.

I'm trying to create an action and/or brush preset(?) that will:
1) Add a fixed text string in the forground color, consistent font, size, etc.
2) Apply a consistent Layer Style -> Bevel and Emboss setting
3) Allow me to move the text to whatever position
4) Change text layer opacity
5) Flatten
At some point in the past when searching the internet I came upon a description of how to create a brush preset (I think that was it) that did at least most of this, but somehow I seem to have lost the preset and don't know how to recreate it.

First it is And/or you can create both or one or the other. For in actions and scripts you can not automate the use of a brush.
1) Add a fixed text string in the forground color, consistent font, size, etc.
    Easy if all images are the same size and a little more work if image size vary for you will need to scale the image.
    If you want to scale the image back to it original scale at the end of the action you need to use a little script in the action. .
2) Apply a consistent Layer Style -> Bevel and Emboss setting
    Again easy if aoo images are the same size not posible if images vary in size for many setting in layer style are in absolute pixel size.
    However layer styles will look good for a range of images sizes like Print Size or thunbnail size or small web sizes.
    Therfore I create actions for print size images and work full size. if I need smaller image I work full size and resize before output.
3) Allow me to move the text to whatever position
     This is quite easy to do in an action you simply add an interactive transform step after adding the text layer.
     However this is not a good idea if you want to batch the action. Interactive sort of defeats batch.
     With an action it is easy to posion a layer.
4) Change text layer opacity
    Simply change the added text layers opacity and or fill and it will be recorded.
5) Flatten
    Simple just record it I don't like actions that flatten though. If you give your action to some and the use it on an image the did a lot of work on the may get very upset the your acrion flatten all their work.

Trying to create a template with adjustable text fields.

I need to creat a form or template with adjustable text and image fields. I need to have a background template for multiple pages that when I make a change to the template it make the changes to all pages, like the master page of indesign. I also need to have text and image fields that are specific to each page but the dimensions and placement are controled by the template,but the information inside is page spacific. What program should I use and anyone know a tutorial for help?

What you want would require elaborate programming or dealing with variables in Framemaker or InDesign (Server) to dynamically generate the output upon request. You can of course get part of the features using normal variables in ID e.g. to pull linked images based on some parameters, but generally your request sounds too complex to deal with all scenarios.

When I am trying to create a business action with EDI 837 ‘.ecs’ file, I am getting a error. It is not creating the business action. Even it is not displaying any error details.

What error you are getting exactly while creating the business action? Did you try to create business action for any other protocol? If not, then please try to create business action for any other protocol and check whether you are getting the same error over there also.
