Create an audiobook playlist

Hi.  I ripped some Spanish lessons from CD, and now I want to:
-change the tracks to "audiobook" rather than "music";  and
-create an audiobook playlist.
I don't want the audiobook tracks shuffling through with music.
Thanks for your help.

Select tracks, use CTRL-I to Get. Info., on Options tab set Media Kind to Audiobook, create a blank playlist, drag the tracks in.

  • Itunes Auto-Creates Duplicates of Playlists

    Hello, I'm having a problem with my iTunes / iPod. Every time I connect my iPod, iTunes automatically creates new Smart Playlists named "Audiobooks", "Movies", "Music", and "TV Shows" on my iPod. This is getting really annoying since I have to manually delete them each time. But the worst part is that last time I plugged it in, I didn't delete the playlists since I was in a rush. Now, when I just plugged my iPod in, it created an ADDITIONAL set of smart playlists, meaning that now there's "Audiobooks", "Audiobooks", "Movies", "Movies", "Music", "Music", "TV Shows", and "TV Shows". How do I stop iTunes from doing this?

    Now I downloaded a tool to delete them all with one klick. It always stucks because it counts more then 69.000 Playlists.
    iTunes Match really needs to get optimised!

  • Create Auto Shuffled Playlist?

    I've just bought an iPod Shuffle (3G) and love it, and I like how when I tell it to sync my entire music library (60GB) it automatically picks 4GB of music at random and adds it to a shuffled playlist which it then syncs. Unfortunately, I deleted the 'auto shuffled' playlist when adding some other playlists I'd created. Now I want to fill up the remaining space with songs picked at random - is there any way to have iTunes re-create one of these auto shuffled playlists? Or do I just have to grab a selection from my library and drag it across?

    Select tracks, use CTRL-I to Get. Info., on Options tab set Media Kind to Audiobook, create a blank playlist, drag the tracks in.

  • How do I create a new playlist when all four options are not available

    I'm running iTunes 11.1.5 under Mavericks 10.9.2. Because I have a very large music collection I keep it on an external drive. I have six recorded lectures I'd like to sync with my iPad. How do I create a new playlist based on the recordings on the external drive? All four New Playlist options are currently not selectable. I know it can be done because I've done it before years ago but have forgotten how.
    Yes, I too wish iTunes were more coherent and less convoluted.
    Appreciated.

    Hi Try a Reboot press & hold power button & menu button hold both down until you see Apple Logo . Then go to music click on play list and try to make one. Cheers Brian

  • Can I move my external drive library in order to create a Genius playlist?

    Our iTunes library is stored on an external hard drive, and the computer we use it with is a desktop G3 (stop laughing) running OSX 10.3.9 (OK, really, stop laughing) and the latest version of iTunes I can use with that, iTunes 7 (end of comedy routine). Of course, this is the wife's computer which she only uses for email & internet, so it hasn't been a problem so far.
    I would like to create some Genius playlists for that library utilizing my laptop which has 10.5.6 and iTunes 8.0.2.
    Is it possible for my to connect the hard drive to my laptop and access that library in my laptop's iTunes for the purpose of creating some Genius playlists that would then be available back on the G3? It would be sweet if this wouldn't affect the laptop's small library stored on it's internal hard drive and in the default iTunes directory as well.
    Thanks!

    Actually you can store just some, but you always have to remember to option+drag in the future for those media:

  • Creating a new playlist in iTunes 9 - crazy

    When I create a new playlist in itunes 9, my song list disappears, and a window replaces it that tells me how to drag songs into the playlist I just created. What??? Even after 20 new playlists created, this window comes up offering tutorials. (100 milion people using iTunes, and we all need a tutorial on dragging songs to a playlist?)
    So each time I have to go back and find the song I wanted to drag to the new playlist in the first place.
    Anybody know how to turn this annoying behaviour off ? I sent it in as a bug to Apple feedback.

    It is irritating and I haven't found a fix. However, if you select a song in your library and use the File > Create New Playlist from Selection, you don't get the window. You new playlist name is already highlighted so you can type a new name for it. And iTunes 9 has fixed the problem with not being able to create a new playlist from selection unless the selection was 2 or more songs. Now you can do it with only one song.

  • Can't create a smart playlist of podcasts in iOS 7?

    I've got to iPhone 4Ss, one on iOS 6, the other on iOS 7. On the iOS6 device, I have created a Smart Playlist that contains my podcast subscriptions for the last two weeks. This playlist is the major use of my iPhone. However, on the iOS 7 device, The Recent Podcast playlist is there in the Music app, but it is empty. Is iOS 7 forcing me to listen to podcasts only through the useless Podcasts app?

  • After creating a new playlist, song is added to the playlist multiple times

    I have an iPhone 5, and created a new playlist. When I start the playlist, no matter what song I click on, it defaults to the first song in the playlist, and adds about 20 "ghost" copies of the song. I'm running iOS 6.1.4.

    Well I fixed it. Opened the playlist, shuffled the song, played a song, unshuffled the playlist, and now it's normal. Weird

    After creating a new playlist in iTunes, how can I add my entire music library --at once-- to the new playlist. I want to download all my music from Icloud at once on my Macpro

    You have two separate questions here...
    To get all your music into one playlist, select Music in the sidebar and click the Songs view at the top. Then, highlight all the songs and drag them into your playlist.
    I don't know if it's possible to download all Purchased content (or do you mean iTunes Match content?) at once; try a few Google searches.

  • Just bought a new computer and downloaded itunes again and when I log in all my old music is not there.  I created a new playlist but it won't sinq to iphone without erasing all my other songs.

    I just bought a new computer and set it up.  Downloaded itunes again and logged in; however, all of my old content is not there.  I just created a new playlist and want to sinq it to my phone but get a message saying it will delete all of my old songs.  Please help

    These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
    Backup the library with this User Tip.
    Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
    Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
    Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
    Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
    Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
    I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
    If you have an iOS device that syncs with contact & calendar data on your computer you should migrate this information too. If that isn't possible create a dummy entry of each type in your new profile and iTunes should offer to merge the existing data from the device into the computer, otherwise the danger is that it will wipe the information from the device.
    If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
    Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data. If you don't have any Apple devices then see HT2519 - Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store.

  • How to create an Empty Playlist File on Mac?

    Hello everyone, I'm working on a Music Player script, I was able to play a file via the default player as when we doubleclick on a file. The problem is I have no control over the Player, so to "stop" a file I could play a "silent" mp3, one with 1 second of silence in it for example. I discarded the idea since I had to distribute this silent.mp3 file along with the script. A better option is to play a "playlist", since playlist files are text only, I could create them an empty playlist file on the fly...
    so, the question is, what's the default playlist extension on a mac? and how to create one on the Mac?
    in windows the default player is Windows Media Player, the default playlist file extension is *.wpl.
    here's the contents of an empty playlist
    <?wpl version="1.0"?>
    <smil>
        <head>
            <meta name="Generator" content="Microsoft Windows Media Player -- 12.0.7601.18150"/>
            <meta name="ItemCount" content="0"/>
            <title>empyPlaylist</title>
        </head>
    </smil>
    here's the script, so far Windows only, at least to stop the file being played.
    //  script.name = musicPlayer_Windows.jsx;
    //  script.needs = I need to create an Empty Playlist File for the Mac, that will play on the default music player when executed
    // carlos canto, 10/12/2014
    var w = new Window('dialog', 'Music Player');
    var btnFile = w.add('button', undefined, 'Select an *.mp3 file to play...');
    var lblSong = w.add('edittext', undefined, '');
    lblSong.characters = 30;
    var btnPlay = w.add('button', undefined, 'Play');
    var btnStop = w.add('button', undefined, 'Stop');
    var btnClose = w.add('button', undefined, 'Close');
    btnPlay.enabled = btnStop.enabled = false;
    var emptyPlaylist = getEmptyPlaylist ();
    btnFile.onClick = function () {
        var file = File.openDialog ("Select File to Play...", '*.mp3', false);
        lblSong.text = file.displayName;
        lblSong.file = file;
        btnPlay.enabled = btnStop.enabled = true;
    btnPlay.onClick = function () {
        lblSong.file.execute();
        $.sleep (300);
        BridgeTalk.bringToFront('estoolkit');
    btnStop.onClick = function () {
        emptyPlaylist.execute();
        $.sleep (300);
        BridgeTalk.bringToFront('estoolkit');
    btnClose.onClick = function () {
        w.close();
    w.show();
    // this function creates an Empty Playlist file (Windows) on the fly, this file will be used to "stop" a playing file
    // I need a similar function for Mac
    function getEmptyPlaylist () {
        var desk = Folder.desktop;
        var f = new File(desk+'/emptyPlaylist.wpl');
        if (!f.exists) {
            var s_emptyPlaylist = (new String("<?wpl version=\"1.0\"?>\n<smil>\n    <head>\n        <meta name=\"Generator\" content=\"Microsoft Windows Media Player -- 12.0.7601.18150\"/>\n        <meta name=\"ItemCount\" content=\"0\"/>\n        <title>empyPlaylist</title>\n    </head>\n</smil>\n"));
            f.encoding = 'utf-8';
            f.open('w');
            f.write(eval(s_emptyPlaylist));
            f.close();
        return f;
    thanks in advance
    Carlos

    hmm...I think it's going to be more complicated than I thought.
    correct, this script targets the ESTK, it is part of a larger Illustrator script, which doesn't have doScript either...I would go with applescript as last resort. I think going with the playlist file is easier.
    based on your comment I realized users might change their default players, so on Windows I'm going to change the playlist file from *.wpl to the more universal *.m3u, I guess whatever decent player made the default, supports this file.
    so, will an *.m3u playlist file play on the default mac player (itunes) when executed?
    File("~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music/emptyPlaylist.m3u").execute(); // will this play on itunes?
    I noticed that the *.m3u file can be blank, it will still "play" when executed() and effectively "stops" any music file currently being played...if this happens on Mac also, that's what I'm after.
    thanks for helping Dirk.

  • How to create subdirectories in playlist, ipod classic

    I am not familiar how to create subdirectories in Playlists in iPod Classic. Of course I have to user iTues software but I don't know how to create. Please guide me if anybody knows how to create subdirectories.
    I want like this (like windows how subdirectories are look)
    Classical
    Dindufa
    Zazimba
    Thank you,
    grb

    To expand on that further, putting playlists within folders and/or folders within folders creates multiple levels of playlist organization. However, this only works in auto-sync mode, so if you manually manage your Classic the folder structure will not transfer over.

  • Is it possible to create a "sub" playlist within another?

    Hello,
    For example, can you create a U2 playlist?...and then within that, create playlists for their albums?
    Thanks,
    Steve

    I don't think you can do a "sub" playlist. But you can do some pretty tricky things with smart playlists. You can create a non-smart U2 playlist, and then do smart playlists based on your original U2 playlist.
    Do this: make a non-smart playlist called "allU2".
    Browse (click on the eyeball in the upper right) your way to U2, then select all those songs, drag 'em to your "allU2" playlist. You now have a regular playlist with all of your U2 in it.
    Now make a smart playlist called "Achtung Baby" or whatever album you want.
    When you're creating your smart playlist you wanna do this:
    checkmark "match all of the following"
    ->Playlist ->Contains ->allU2 (then click the "+" sign to add another rule)
    ->Album ->Contains ->Achtung Baby
    That's how you would make a "sub" playlist based on a playlist, but really that was just an exercise in making playlists. In order to create a playlist to listen to specific albums, you don't even need to mess with multiple playlists. Just do this: create a smart playlist title "achtung baby":
    "match all of the following"
    ->artist ->contains ->U2
    ->album ->contains ->achtung baby
    Or forget the "artist" line and have just this in your smart playlist:
    ->album ->contains ->achtung baby
    OR, (lemmee see how long I can ramble on here), you could forgo the entire playlist trip and listen to albums through "Browse". Click Browse. In the Artists column scroll down to U2. You'll get a list of all your U2 albums in the righthand column and a list of all your U2 songs below. In albums click on whatever album you want. The songs list will only show songs from whatever album you clicked. You can play just those songs.
    Or open-apple click on multiple albums to highlight multiple albums. You can then listen to U2 songs from multiple albums.
    I love fiddling around with playlists.
    One of my favorite smart playlists (I'm listening to it right now):
    smart playlist titled "5* not played 1 week":
    Match ->all of the following:
    ->Last played ->is not in the last ->1 ->weeks
    ->My rating ->is ->***
    down below click a checkmark next to: Live Updating
    That playlist only plays songs that are 5 stars that I haven't listened to in the last week.
    Good luck and have fun! If you have any questions about playlists, post 'em here and I'll be more than happy to help you out.

  • Creating New Smart Playlist by Album name - Missing From Drop Down List

    I hope i'm not the only person with this issue but since upgrading to Windows Vista i have noticed a very annoying little bug with iTunes.
    When trying to create a Smart Playlist there is no longer the option from the dropdown list to create a smartplaylist using the perameter 'Album'.
    Any lists created when my PC was using XP still have the correct parameters in place but you cannot create any ne ones.
    I have tried creating a new library without success. If i revert back to XP there is no problem.
    Are Apple aware of this issue? If not, how do i contact them to report this bug?
