Hello all.
i'm new in Oracle.
i'm using oracle enterprise manager - Oracle9i.
when i'm trying to create a new database i have got 1G file size.
how can i create a new one in a normal size?

In SQL Server, the database is both an MDF AND the dictionary for that contents to the MDF.
In Oracle, the database is the collection of all data files to be managed by the kernel. There are several 'types' of files involved, but the one you want is 'data files'. When it comes to data, those files are grouped into tablespaces - a tablespace is simply a named collection of one of more data files that make space available.
What you want is a simple schema - a collection of objects (tables, indexes, views). Objects that require space on disk are called segments. WHen you define a segment, you include the tablespace information. If you omit the tablespace, the system will use system-wide defaults, which can be overridden by user-specifci defaults.
SO, the answer to your question is:
- decide whether you want the new tables in an existing tablespace or a new one
- if new one, CREATE TABLESPACE ... otherwise ALTER TABLESPACE ... to add more data files
- create a new schema 'CREATE USER ...' and provide the appropriate grants
- -'GRANT CREATE SESSION TO user'
- - 'GRANT CREATE TABLE, CREATE INDEX, ...' (or GRANT RESOURCE ... - no longer socially acdeptable, but permitted)
- set quotas and defaults for the user (ALTER USER ... DEFAULT TABLESPACE ... QUOTA ON ...)
and create the objects by logging on as that new schema and CREATE TABLE ...

Note that tablespaces are NOT self-contained. Oracle uses a single, central, dictionary for all tablespaces and schemas. As a result, it is not easy to detach a tablespace or schema from one database and clip it into another. This is both an advantage and disadvantage - as is the case with every centralized vs regional admin discussion.

Check the parameters within the ADDRESS section of TNSNAMES.ORA.
Legal ADDRESS parameter formats may be found in the Oracle operating system specific documentation for your platform.
Protocols that resolve names at the transport layer (such as DECnet object names) are vulnerable to this error if not properly configured or names are misspelled.Hope That Helps.

Create new oracle database with JAVA

Hi!
I would appreciated it if you could help me to solve a problem that i have.
I am trying to create a new oracle database by a JAVA 1.4.2 application. I am using the scripts that Oracle 10.g supplies during the creation of a new database from the server (Generate Database Creation Scripts) with the appropriate changes, generated by a java application. Unfortunately, i am unable to connect with the database and the listener. Is there any other way to create a new database by java and how can i solve my current problem with the oracle scripts?

A) To create a new schema, you need to be connected as a user that has create schema privilege, or as tyhe user who is to own the schema (remembering that the user has appropriate create privs, as seen in the GRANT command in the SQL Reference manual). Not an issue at all, I think, if you coordinate this with your DBA. Discussed very well in the Administrator's manual.
B) Alternately, you could create a complete copy of the schema, including all desired objects (tables, views, etc.) in a separate database and simply export the user and schema. Then simply invoke the OS-based import command (imp) to load that entire thing into the target database.
C) To create a new database, there are 3 simple steps ...
1) create the appropriate initialization parameter file
the init{sid}.ora file should be placed in the $ORACLE_HOME/dbs or %ORACLE_HOME%\database directory. (I recommend you do not attempt to create the spfile.) Of critical interest will be setting the block size information, the control file parameters, and using the appropriate memory management parameters, based on the version of the software you will be using to create the database instance.
2) start an empty instance, pointing to the parameter file
This will be an OS specific call, and will require that you have the correct OS environment set up as well as access to the ORACLE_HOME which will provide the software that you will invoke. In *nix you will need to call the sqlplus command with sysdba provs and in Windows you will need to call oradim to initialize this as a service.
3) run the SQL create database command
You might want to use the dbca to create a template of the create database command, or look in the SQL Reference manual for the variations on the command. Of critical interest will be initializing the redo logs as well as the system, sysaux (if needed), temp and undo tablespaces after which you can set up the regular tablespaces, users and schemas. I highly recommend that you have redundant copies of the control files on separate drives.
You may want to review the online Concepts manual and the Adminstration Guide for some of the specifics to your needs, but I think I've covered the basics.
Remember that ideally you will only have one database instantiated on any given server as the memory and CPU overhead of each instance is significant.

How can I create an empty row on a #TempTable based on an input parameter

So if my Line of Business is 'MC' or 'MG', I have to go over to Oracle and get its data accordingly. Then, when I create my final report result set, I think I'll want to UNION in that result set if my Parameter is 'MC' or 'MG'. I don't think I can UNION
based on the value of the Parameter. So my thought process was to create an empty row on my #TempTable so when I UNION and my parameter is NOT 'MC' or 'MG' then it will have nothing to UNION in. My struggle is how do I create an empty row in my #TempTable
if my parameter is NOT 'MC' or 'MG'
If I am wwwaaayyy off here, please tell me so.

If I add an ELSE, it always comes back and tells me the #TempTable_Market_Prominence_Member_Data already exists. As if it's creating it regardless of the Top IF.

The error came back from your ELSE Statement most probably caused by the reason mentioned in Hoffmann's post.

Explicitly creating the temp table will offer below benefit in this case.
The ELSE statement is no longer needed, if the no rows get inserted into that table, it has nothing to union an empty table.
With the column datatype defined, you can avoid such conversion error

I don't think PNPCE does anything with HRP infotypes. PNPCE is all about PA data since PERNR is the main key. Logical DB PCH is the one that deals with HRP Infotypes.

Creating a new database in Oracle Database 10g...

I have downloaded a copy of Oracle Database 10g Express Edition from Oracle's website. I am using Windows XP. I am trying to create an Oracle database that I can connect to from Access 2003 via ODBC.
1. How do I create a new database? I can see options to create tables, views, etc. but not a database.
2. I have created a System DSN connection in the ODBC Data Source Administrator for the Oracle ODBC driver. Once I create a database in Oracle, how do I actually establish a connection to it from Access? The ODBC code to connect is there, but when I run it, I get an error.

1. How do I create a new database? I can see options to create tables, views, etc. but not a database.If you can see those options then you are already connected to the database. You probably want to create a user, not a database (are you by chance coming from SQL Server?)

Database Initialiser does not create azure sql database

I have a WPF application In the OnStartup in the app.cs I set the Database initializer and forced the context the initialise my database:

I'm using SAP Testdrive (evaluation) on linux in order to learn a bit about ABAP programming. I want to create a new database table in the dictionary to be used in my programs. I proceed in the following way:
1) I run the SE11 transaction
2) At the first entry I write the name of the table to be created (in the Database Table field)
3) I click on the create button.
But then the system asks me an Access Key to register, where can I get this?

Ok I found the answer to my question in another thread

Make sure that your program names starts with "Z" or "Y", otherwise the system will ask you to register the object because it thinks you are creating/changing in the SAP namespace.
In fact this was my error, my table name didn't start with neither "Z" nor "Y".

Create a new database in foxpro , msaccess dynamically

hello,
i am writing an application in which depending on the users selection a database will be created dynamically .i.e if he selects oracle or foxpro or access it will create a new database using the dsn supplied by the user and then creates the tables in that particular database .
i would like to know how to create a new database from within a class file for foxpro or msacces dynamically.

i have no problem in creating tables
my application does that, but i wanna know how to create a new database so that the tables that are created for a particular clients data are stored in a database specific for that client only , i.e. when his work is over he can completely discard the database by dropping it and can create new database when he wants to start a new database related to different client.
i would like to know how to create that database file, system or file dsn dynamically.

I want to create an other instance for our production database. We have disk and tape in rman backup. My question is can i create a new database using our disk backup in an other server?

By means of the use of Recovery Manager it is possible to duplicate a database out from a previously taken rman backup. The method will be outlined in the next few lines.
Let's assume a source database named SRCDB and the target database, named GEMINI. A unix like environment is assumed, but it can be implemented on windows as well, just beware of the particular Oracle implementation on a windows platform (orapwd file name, service creation, path format)
1. Create a password file for the Cloned (GEMINI) instance:
orapwd file=/u01/app/oracle/product/9.2.0.1.0/dbs/orapwGEMINI password=password entries=10
2. Configure tnsnames.ora and listner.ora
Properly identify the database at the tnsnames.ora and have the instance manually registered against the listener.ora files, both files located at the $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin directory.
2.a Manually register the database against the listener (listener.ora)

(SID_NAME = GEMINI)
2.b Added the target GEMINI to the tnsnames.ora

2.c Reload the listener

3. Create a new init.ora for the cloned database.
Next create an init.ora file for the cloned database. In case the same paths cannot be used on the target host, either because it is the same source host or because those paths are not reproducible on the target, then DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT and LOG_FILE_NAME_CONVERT may be required to be defined
DB_NAME=GEMINI
CONTROL_FILES=(/u02/oradata/GEMINI/control01.ctl,
/u02/oradata/GEMINI/control02.ctl,
/u02/oradata/GEMINI/control03.ctl)
# Convert file names to allow for different directory structure.
DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT=(/u02/oradata/SRCDB/,/u02/oradata/GEMINI/)
LOG_FILE_NAME_CONVERT=(/u01/oradata/SRCDB/,/u01/oradata/GEMINI/)
# block_size and compatible parameters must match those of the source database

4. Connect to the cloned instance
ORACLE_SID=GEMINI; export ORACLE_SID
sqlplus /nolog
conn / as sysdba
5. Create an SPFILE based on the init.ora
CREATE SPFILE FROM PFILE='/u01/app/oracle/admin/GEMINI/pfile/init.ora';
6. Start the database in NOMOUNT mode:
STARTUP FORCE NOMOUNT;
7. Connect to the TARGET, CATALOG and AUXILIARY databases.
By means of the rman three connections are open, one for the Source Database (SOURCEDB), another for the Catalog database (RCAT), and one more for the cloned database (GEMINI)
ORACLE_SID=GEMINI; export ORACLE_SID
rman TARGET sys/password@SRCDB CATALOG rman/rman@RCAT AUXILIARY /
8. Complete or Incomplete clone (recover)
From the rman the database using one of the following commands:
8.a Clone the database by means of a complete recover.
DUPLICATE TARGET DATABASE TO GEMINI;
8.b Clone the database up to a defined point in time in the past by means of an incomplete recover
DUPLICATE TARGET DATABASE TO GEMINI UNTIL TIME 'SYSDATE-2';
9. Process finished.
Once the process is finished, the newly created GEMINI database is ready to be used as an independent new cloned database.
