Create Blank Signature Field in Acrobat 8

The create blank signature field function is no longer available in Acrobat 8.0, as it was in 6.x and 7.x. This was an extremely useful tool to add a quick signature block to a document you needed digitally signed by another party.
Adobe LiveCycle Designer does have the ability to add the field, but that requires additional steps to convert the document to a form when a forms functionality is truly unnecessary for a simple signature capture.
Please, add this capability back to the native Acrobat program. We have hundreds of users who use this functionality daily.

Jeff,
You are right it is not as it used to be in Acrobat 6 and 7, but it is still there!
Go to Tools->Forms, and select the Digital signature tool.
A cross will show up, and you can use t for placing your new and EMPTY signature field

  • Create Blank Signature Field in Acrobat 9

    Looks stupid, but I don't find the way to create blank signature fields in Acrobat 9 pro, I need it to pass the file on so that Reader users can sign it.
    To sign and then delete the signature (leaving the blank signature field) is not a valid alternative, this will need to be done by many (not only me).
    Regards, Luis

    Thank you Tim, I finally got the the correct place to create this blank signature fields.
    Forms: Add or Edit fields (Shift+Ctrl+7):
    Forms: Form Tools: Digital Signature   or   (right mouse button click): Digital Signature:
    Not as easy as it was but it's there.
    Thanks a lot.

  • Creating Blank Signature Block in Acrobat Pro X

    How do I create a blank signature block in Acrobat Pro X for someone else to sign?

    You create a signature field.

  • Creating an empty signature field in Acrobat Pro X

    I want to make an empty signature field in Acrobat Pro X, so that Acrobat Reader users can later sign it. I know how to enable that last part ("extended PDF Reader"), but don't know how to make an empty field.

    Is a blank signature field what I need to create if I want my document to be signed by someone else? I am just the editor of the document. I will not officially sign the document. The signature will come from a managment postion. Everytime I try to create a blank signature field though Adobe wants to sign the document with my personal signature.

  • Acrobat 8 Standard - Add multiple blank signature fields

    Hello. I remember in prior versions of Acrobat being able to add several blank signature fields for others to sign at a later time. I am unable to figure out how to do this using Acrobat 8 Standard. Would someone please help? Thanks.

    No version of Acrobat Standard provides the full functionality of Acrobat Pro.
    The Pro release always provides more.
    If you want to create PDF forms that can be filled in and saved by others who use Adobe Reader you must use Acrobat X Pro (to "reader enable" the PDF).

  • Creating Digital signature blocks w/ Acrobat 10.1.2 and using reader to sign...

    I'm using Adobe Acrobat 10.1.2 to add digtal signatures to pdf's but when I save them as a reader extended version so people that only have access to Reader can sign them, Reader won't allow them to sign.  How do I fix this problem?

    It's important to remember when you are extending a PDF document for digital signatures workflow that you create all of the signature fields need in the document prior to extending the document.  Adobe Reader does not allow for signature field creation when signing.

  • Can I create PAdES signature using Adobe Acrobat 8.0 or 9.0?

    Hi
    Can I create PAdES (PDF Advanced Electronic Signatures, Technical Specification ETSI TS 102 778) signature using Adobe Acrobat 8.0 or 9.0?
    ETSI Technical Specification (TS) 102 778 contains five parts:
    • Part 1: PAdES Overview – a framework document for PAdES
    • Part 2: PAdES Basic – Profile based on ISO 32000-1
    • Part 3: PAdES Enhanced – PAdES-Basic Electronic Signatures and PAdES-Explicit Policy Electronic Signatures Profiles
    • Part 4: PAdES Long Term – PAdES-Long Term Validation Profile
    • Part 5: PAdES for XML Content – Profiles for XAdES signatures of XML content in PDF files
    All five parts were published on 31 July 2009.
    Thanks for answer.
    Dragan

    Hi,
    The short answer is yes.
    Acrobat 8 and later support all of requirements of PAdES such as serial signing, long term validation (time stamping and embedded revocation responses) and signatures in the PKCS#7 format.

  • Can't create blank signature as workaround for bug

    Many other threads have discussed the bug where checking "place signature above quoted text" does not do so when no default signature is chosen. If one wants to have no signature as default, but have signatures placed above quoted text, the workaround is apparently to make a blank signature and use that as a default. Problem is, I can't make a blank signature. No matter what combination of whitespace I try to use as a signature (newlines, spaces, tabs), the signature reverts to the last non-whitespace input I had in the field. Anyone else have this problem?

    Yes I had the same problem. However I have found another solution that at least works on my computer, even if I have those "workarounds". So maybe It might help you.
    In Mail Pref in "Signatures"
    - unchecked "Always match my default message font"
    - Choose signature "None" selected
    - checked "Place signature above quoted text"
    In Mail Pref in "Composing"
    - Message format "Rich Text" selected. THIS IS THE ESSENTIAL ON MY COMPUTER. Having Plain there the signature will always end up on the very bottom of the mail
    - Responding UNCHECKED. THIS IS ALSO ESSENTIAL, BECAUSE REPLYING A PLAIN MAIL WILL MAKE THE REPLY PLAIN THEN AGAIN SENDING THE SIGNATURE TO ****...
    In Mail Prefs in "Fonts and colors"
    - I have Message font and Fixed-Width font both "Courier 12" because I want mails to look plain, even if they now are no longer plain...

  • How do I create continuous dynamic fields in Acrobat Pro?

    Hello everyone,
    I've created a legal PDF file and I need to add some dynamic fields inside.
    I know how to make the fields but I would like to make it so that if there are more than one on the same line, that they will affect each other's length in case the user inputs long / short data.
    For example:
    If I have 2 fields:
    NAME          SURNAME
    How do I make it that after the user inputs their NAME the SURNAME field will start a bit after the NAME field and there will be no big gap between them.
    Looking forward to hear some solutions
    Thanks.

  • Forms - Why are fields blank and how to add a signature field

    I created forms using FormsCentral and saved the PDF and I'm not collecting responses.  I have clients fill out the form and email back to me.  Some forms come back blank, making me think the person didn't fill out or save the form correctly, but when you put the cursor in the field you can see the information, so the form is totally useless.  Why does this happen and how can I prevent it from happening?  I read online about turning off the "Highlight Color" in the Form Preferences but this doesn't work.
    The second question is about adding a signature field to a form created using FormsCentral.  I couldn't figure out how to do it.
    Thanks,
    Eileen

    FormsCentral doesn't support digital signatures. You can add digital signature fields using Acrobat, but you'll have to collect the forms outside of FormsCentral.
    The blank field problem is most likely due to people using Preview on a Mac to fill-in and save the form. Preview corrupts PDF forms and other types of PDFs in a number of ways and should be avoided. What you can do with such forms though is to open them in Acrobat, export the form data to an FDF or XFDF file, open a blank form, and import the form data you just exported, and save. If you exported the submission-enabled PDF form from FormsCenrtral, you will have to remove the usage rights in order to import/export the form data. You do this in Acrobat by selecting: File > Save A Copy

    Did verify that the signature shows in Chrome, using chromes default pdf viewer.

  • Quick Tip: How to create editable form fields | Acrobat X Tips & Tricks | Adobe TV

    A short tip that details how to create editable form fields using Acrobat X Std. or Pro.
    http://adobe.ly/wzXkmL

    I have created a form which will be filled out by customers and sent back to me via 'submit' button. What I am trying to figure out is when we receive the filled out form, is there any way to have it as a pdf. To clarify, when the form is filled out and sent, the receiver opens the email and attached is a non-editable pdf. This way the customers information is no longer editable.

  • Adding a signature field takes a lot of time

    Case: I have a Microsoft excel sheet that I save as PDF directly from excel. I use Adobe Acrobat X PRO to create 3 signature fields on this PDF to allow document signing in Adobe Reader.
    Problem: Adding a signature field in form editing mode are extremly slow. After placing the signature field, Adobe Acrobat stops responding for about 1-3 minutes. I need to do this for a lot of documents, so it's time-consuming to say the least..
    Is it possible to speed up this process?

  • Digitally Sign All Signature Fields in the Active Document

    I have a script which will sign a single digital signature field by the field name.
    I need to revise the script so it will sign multiple/all signature fields in the active document without having to put the field name in the script, as the field names will vary with each document.
    Can anyone please advise how to modify the script to sign all fields in the active document regardless of the field name?
    function myOtherTrustedFunction()
    app.beginPriv();
    // Get and login to security handler
    var oSigHdlr = security.getHandler( "Adobe.PPKLite" );
    oSigHdlr.login( "123","/c/Documents and Settings/name/Application Data/Adobe/Acrobat/10.0/Security/FirstNameLastName.pfx");
    // Setup Signing Properties
    var chk = this.getField("Checked");
    if (chk != null) {
    // Apply Signature and save back to original file
    var bRtn = chk.signatureSign({oSig:oSigHdlr, bUI:false, oInfo:{password:"123"}});
    app.endPriv();
    Any assistance will be most appreciated.

    Thank you for your help, the script will now count only the signature fields which have not been signed.
    I have added the second part of the script to then sign all of the blank signature fields.
    The script is only signing one of the digital signature fields instead of all of the blank signature fields.
    Can you please advise how I can modify the script to sign all of the blank signature fields?
    var count = 0;
    for (var i = 0; i < numFields; i++) {
        // Get the current field object
        f = getField(getNthFieldName(i));
        // If it's a signature field and not already signed, increment counter
        if (f.type === "signature" && !f.value) {
            count++;
    var myEngine = security.getHandler( "Adobe.PPKLite" );
    myEngine.login( "123", c/Documents and Settings/name/Application Data/Adobe/Acrobat/10.0/Security/FirstNameLastName.pfx" );
    // Sign the field
    f.signatureSign( myEngine,{password: "123"});

  • Seeding a signature field in Livecycle design

    Creating a signature field is straight forward. However I want to seed the 1st sig field to make it an 'author' signature and allow type 2 changes (The permitted changes are filling in forms, instantiating page templates, and signing. Other changes invalidate the signature.).
    I know how to do this with javascript in Acrobat forms. But in Livecycle I cannot find how to set the seed on the field.
    Any advice appreciated please.

    This cannot be done using LiveCycle Designer but here are other options
    Option # 1
    A simple orchestration can be created using addSignatureField/ModifySignatureField
    In workbench Select the activity(addSignatureField/ModifySignatureField) and Go to Process Properties
    Under Advanced Panel --> Signature Type(In property editor)
    Select Certification Signature radio button and "Annotations,form fill-in and digital Signatures" drop down
    Option # 2
    using Client SDK Java API, Here is code snippet
        Document inDoc = new Document(new File(inputFile), false);
        PDFSignatureFieldProperties pdfSigFldProps = new PDFSignatureFieldProperties();
        PDFSeedValueOptionSpec pdfSeedValueOptionSpec = new PDFSeedValueOptionSpec();
        pdfSeedValueOptionSpec.setMdpValue(MDPPermissions.AnnotationFormChanges);
        pdfSigFldProps.setSeedValue(pdfSeedValueOptionSpec);
        Document outDoc = signatureServiceClient.modifySignatureField(inDoc, sigFieldName, pdfSigFldProps);
        outDoc.copyToFile(new File(outputFile));
