  • Unable to boot from my USB Flash Memory Device

    Hi there,
I recently purchased a macbook pro with the lion 10.7.2 firmware.
I am experiencing problems with my USB Flash memory as when i plug it in it comes up fine on the desktop and i can browse it. The problem is that when i open up an application such as Adobe Fireworks or Netbeans (Java programming) and try and access files from my USB flash drive, my drive does not appear on the list/menu, it only comes up with my macbook pro documents etc.
I have asked friends with Mac's and they tell me they do not experience this problem. Please can you help me whether it is a problem with my settings or any other issues.
    Thank you.

Nope, I dont recieve any massages at all. It just doesnt appear.
Also usually you can drag a file into an application, for example drag an image into photoshop in order to open that image up but this does not work either.

  • I've bought a new USB flash memory. I plugged it in the USB port then a message come out: Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled.... Please help...

I don't know what to do. I plugged that USB in both ports but the same message came out. I charged my laptop and the same thing happened again. The surprising thing is that I tried plugging the USB in my cousins laptop (Macbook Pro) and it worked!!! but not with mine. The USB flash memory made by PNY. Please help...

There are two types of USB 2 devices - low power which consume 100 milliamperes or less from the USB bus and high power which consume up to 500 milliamperes. Your flash drive is probably a high power device and is overloading the USB bus of your computer. (Some notebooks can support only low power USB devices.)
I know that my MBP's USB ports support high power devices but I've come across reports that not all high power devices will work on the MBA and that might be the case for your flash drive. My guess is it has a large capacity? 32GB or more?

  • USB flash memory: "application not found" error

When recently trying to use a USB flash memory stick I was getting an "f:\ application not found" error. I tried all kinds of fixes from Microsoft. Turns out it was caused by Lightroom.
Since the memory stick had photos on it, my computer's Autoplay was trying to launch Lightroom. Problem is, Lightroom is listed as "Lightroom 4.0 64" in the Autoplay menu. I have Lightroom 4.4.  As far as I can tell, there's no way I can fix the incorrect "Lightroom 4.0 64" listing.  The solution is to remove Lightroom from any Autoplay options.
This is the second such problem I've had with Lightroom.  The previous problem was right clicking on a photo file and trying to use the "open with" menu.  It worked fine when I had Lightroom 4.3.  After updating to Lightroom 4.4, it didn't work. Another Lightroom user found a workaround, which was to rename the Lightroom 4.4 folder back to Lightroom 4.3.
These are both lazy Adobe oversights. You have to realize all the Windows functions that will be affected with an update and make sure they are updated as well. I spent half a day solving this latest USB flash memory error. Get your updating act together.

You don't mention your OS or which version of Outlook you're using.
For Windows, this may be helpful:

  • Can't creat a USB Flash key to recover my BIOS

Hi, i've been struggling for a week to make my Notebook back.
From what I've read, I need to make a BIOS recovery from a USB, but I can't get to make this USB key. I'm using a Cruzer Force 32gb Sandisk Pendrive. But the Bios recovery software doesn't recognize it.
I've already tried formatting the drive with FAT32 and rename it to HP_TOOLS. My laptop's recovery partition is missing.
Does it have any limitations? I'm talking about drive size or something else.
My warranty has already expired and I'd like to solve this myself.
    Thanks in advance for reading.

  • Toshiba 40SL733g - How to play video files from USB flash memory

When I plug my USB flash memory in USB port, Media Player menu shows up with two options : Photos and Settings.
How do I make my TV recognize and play video files from USB flash memory?
    Flash is on FAT32.
I have tried to play avi, mp4 and mkv files but nothing happens. It looks like flash is empty.
Could you please help me solve this problem.
    Thanks!

bzunic, have you updated the firmware for your model?.
With my own set, (32RL900A), the instruction manual said that certain buttons on the remote control were "unused", however, after the first firmware update, the previously "unused" buttons were used, (In our case, Time Shift, Record, and so on).
The reason I talk about this is, these features became available after a firmware upgrade, and were not mentioned in the user manual, in our case, and a later download of the instruction manual for our model actually gave the instructions for the use of these features, which were shown as "not available", in the original instruction manual supplied with the TV, but became available after the firmware upgrade.
Let us know how it all works out ............

  • Making the HIDDEN File(.DS&Trashes) visible in USB FLASH Memory

Mac always has this .DS and TRASHES folder everytime I use my USB Flash memory, and it consumes spaces A LOT. The problem is I cant see it on my PB, so what I discovered was to connect it to a windows computer to erase those hidden files.
Is there a way I can erase/see these files on my Mac? Finding a windows computer is not always easy here, and quite inconvenient. Thanks!

Try this, it works well for me...especially when transferring files between Mac and PC when all those Finder files show up and get very confusing.

  • Booting from USB Flash Memory Card Reader on RS480M2-IL (Test Results)

I just completed testing my USB Flash Memory Card Reader (see profile) as a boot device and wanted to provide feedback to the Forum.
A UBS Flash card will show-up on the Advanced Bios Features menu, Hard Disk Boot Priority list, when a Flash card is physically present in a card slot.  It showed as "USB-HDD0 : AFT PRO -8MX CF 0" with a 256MB Compact Flash (CF) card for my test.  Using the enter key on the Hard Disk Boot Priority list allows for ordering priority, which was necessary to place the CF Drive before my real Hard Drive for the card to boot.  When the card is removed, it drops from the list.
I initialized my CF card as a DOS system disk using HP's USB Disk Storage Format Tool v2.0.6 for the test.
Since it is recognized as a Hard Drive, it boots as the C: drive, not A/B Floppy alternative.
I also ran a quick test to see if XP Pro Setup would see the drive.  It does show as my D: drive partitioned FAT.  Too small (256MB) obviously for XP Pro install, but it does present opportunity for larger size flash modules.  My Flash Reader actually has 4 different disk functions/slot groups, so XP Setup acknowledge the presents of those empty three slot groups as "Unknown Disk" on the drive list.
I hope the information is useful for anyone planning a build or looking for alternative boot methodolgy with the board.
This board just gets better and better.

So with a nice size flash memory u could start your box with a key drive and lock up your computer when you leave it unattended.

  • Cannot play .avi files from USB Flash Memory UHYB-064GH

    Hi,
I have recently bought a 64gb Toshiba Flash Memory Drive (Stick). It's model UHYB-064GH.
Straight out of the box I plugged the USB drive into my Windows PC.
    I'm running Windows Vista.
I tried to transfer a number of .avi video files to the device, taking up about 10gb of space.
I tried running the files (using VLC player) straight from the flash drive. Most of the files wouldn't play.
Only one did but it only played the first 8 seconds of a near 2 hour film.
The counter in the corner only showed the film to be 8 seconds long?!
However the properties section of the file confirmed it was a 1.6gb, 2 hour film...?
I transferred the same video files to a different (old) drive I have and found that it worked fine.
The drive is a FAT32 one.
I don't really know much about these things so would be grateful for any advice
    Tom

Try to format the USB flash memory in NTFS format.
The FAT file format supports files up to 4GB but the NTFS format supports bigger sizes.

  • Using bootable USB flash drive to partition internal HDD

I just got my B5400 with Windows 8 x64 and UEFI. I found out that you can't lower the size of the hard drive by a lot. I want to split my HDD into 250GB and 666GB, one for the OS and one for data obviously. Therefore I tried the tool windows offered me but it said that I couldn't make a smaller drive because system relevant data are working at the moment.
So after searching the web I found out, that I have to use a bootable USB flash drive with something like Gparted running, to partition the HDD without any errors. I formatted my USB drive to FAT32 and made it a bootable stick with a program offered on the official website of gparted. I eagerly wanted to use it and plugged it in. Still booting into Windows. So I went into UEFI and checked the settings. I disabled secure boot mode and made it that legacy comes first. Then I chose 'USB HDD flash drive' in the boot manager and exited saving changes. I started my laptop and hit enter to et to the boot manager, made sure to select my USB drive and then confirmed it. It booted into Windows. I don't even understand why it is that way. It is like everything is set up correctly, but still it's trolling me.
I would appreciate any help greatly. And to make clear, I don't want to burn a CD or DVD, I want it to be working with a USB drive.

    Hello,
search the web for "yummi bootmanager", it's free and easy to use.
If you got OKR (OneKeyRecovery) on your device, it will not longer work with resized parititions.

  • How to create bootable USB when using spinrite

    Dear Fellow Community Members
I hope you can help me here as I'm stumped on how to actually get spinrite to run as I'm stuck at the dos c:
    I have a Thinkpad E530 on windows 7 OS.
Windows no longer boots because of numerous bad sectors on the HDD.
I want to retrieve/recover files which were created since the last backup.
A friend in the tech industry recommended 'spinrite' which I've purchased.
I've followed the instructions on the website (https://www.grc.com/sr/faq.htm) to create a bootable USB with doswin98 files loaded.
I didn't go through the config.sys step when creating the bootable USB because the PC no longer works.
When I boot the PC with the USB HDD up via F12 command/boot menu, I get the following:
    Microsoft (R) windows 98
    C:\> spinrite
    Bad command or file name
    C:\>
Can someone help me with the next step/commands to trigger spinrite to run? Or is there something I've missed?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello and welcome,
Are you familiar with/comfortable with Linux?  I can't help you with the Win 98 approach you're using, but I am able to boot a Spinrite img using grub2 and memdisk on a flash drive.
I just finished a rather long article (not fully proof-read yet) about bootable flash drives that includes booting Spinrite.  It's much too long to post here so I'll link it:  A FOB STORY: some notes on bootable flash drives
The Spinrite part of the article is sort of buried in the mess.  If you're not comfortable with Linux and low-level stuff like installing a boot loader on a flash drive, it's probably not for you.  Better to wait for help with the technique you're using.

  • How to create bootable USB thumb drive from Lion on Mac Mini 2011?

    Hello folks
Yesterday my new Mac Mini (Core i7 2,7 Ghz, 4 GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD6630M 256 MB) arrived. It replaces my old Mac Mini (Core Duo 1,83 Ghz, 2 GB RAM, Intel GMA950 64 MB). One day I'll replace the 500 GB 5400 RPM HDD in this Mini by an Intel SSD drive (just like I did with my previous Mini). I'll do a fully clean install then (formatting the SSD drive in Disk Utility and then installing Lion on it from a bootable USB thumb drive). The only problem is I can't seem to download Lion for free from the Mac AppStore (MAS) although I have bought a new Mac Mini which came with Lion pre-installed. I know how to create a bootable USB thumb drive with Lion on it when you download it from the MAS. But that's the problem... I can't seem to download Lion from the MAS for free. When I open the MAS while holding down the Option key I can download Lion but it will charge me for it. Is there any way I can download Lion from the MAS without paying for it? Since it already came with my new Mac Mini 2011 this should be possible I guess?
And will I still be able to download the iLife '11 apps (iPhoto, iMovie and Garageband) for FREE that came with my new Mac Mini when I do a fully clean install as described above? Thanks in advance.
    Greetings
    Jocau

After doing some research, it seems that there are only 2 WAYS to do a complete reinstall of Lion on the Mac Mini 2011 without paying for the Lion download in the Mac AppStore (i.e. recreating every partition, also the Recovery HD partition, from scratch e.g. when installing Lion on a clean HDD/SSD).
    1) COMPLETELY clone the Mac Mini 2011 HDD including all of its partitions to an external drive and restore it when you want to do a complete reinstall.
    2) Use the LION INTERNET RECOVERY feature built-in into new Macs that ship with Lion (this feature is present in new Macs starting from the Mac Mini 2011 and Macbook Air 2011).
OS X Lion: About Lion Recovery
    Lion Internet Recovery
If you happen to encounter a situation in which you cannot start from the Recovery HD, such as your hard drive stopped responding or you installed a new hard drive without Mac OS X installed, new Mac models introduced after public availability of OS X Lion automatically use the Lion Internet Recovery feature if the Recovery HD (Command-R method above) doesn't work. Lion Internet Recovery lets you start your Mac directly from Apple's Servers. The system runs a quick  test of your memory and hard drive to ensure there are no hardware issues.
Lion Internet Recovery presents a limited interface at first, with only the ability to select your preferred Wi-Fi network and, if needed, enter the WPA passphrase. Next, Lion Internet Recovery will download and start from a Recovery HD image. From there, you are offered all the same utilities and functions described above.
As with the Recovery HD, reinstallation of OS X Lion from Lion Internet Recovery requires an Internet connection. See "Supported network configurations and protocols" below.
Restoring iLife applications after Internet Restore of OS X Lion
If you reinstall Lion on a new Mac that shipped with OS X Lion installed, on an erased or replaced hard drive, you can download iPhoto, iMovie, and GarageBand from the Mac App Store.
    After installation, start from Lion.
Double-click the App Store icon in the dock.
Enter your Apple ID and password.
    Click Purchases.
If you haven't previously accepted your bundled iLife applications within the Mac App Store, you should see your iLife applications appear in the Accept portion of the screen. Click Accept.
You may be asked for your Apple ID and password once again. Your iLife applications now move to the Purchased section. These applications are part of the software that came with your Lion based computer. Your account will not be charged for them. Click Install to compete installation of your applications.
    Source: Lion Recovery
It's a bit sad that these seem to be the only 2 options. Lion Internet Recovery is the preferred one here since my monthly internet traffic limit isn't a problem (but my download speed is). This problem could have been easily solved by Apple by just checking the system specs or serial number when trying to download Lion from the Mac AppStore. By using one of the 2 options in my previous sentence the Mac AppStore could see that I have a new Mac Mini 2011 that ships with Lion which would give me the option to download Lion from the Mac AppStore for free and eventually create a bootable USB thumb drive of it.
