Create Computer Lists Leopard Server - problem

I can't add Computer lists in AD using workgroup manager.
I'm logged into AD with WGM, the AD is extended, I have Inspector enabled. Also, I am a Domain Admin and Schema admin in AD.
I go to the Inspector bullseye, select ComputerLists, and click the add button . I get "Not Authorized. The action failed because you are not authorized to perform the operation." I do not get the 'unexpected error' that is normal in this situation.
Server version 10.5.8
WGM 10.5.5 (on the server)

I had to use ADSIEdit to create the objects. Once created, Workgroup Manager can see and manipulate them.

  • New Snow Leopard server problems -need advice.

hello everyone. I just setup a mac pro with Snow Leopard server to replace our G5 which was setup up for simple file sharing as a fake server and am having several challenges listed below:
*I've made sure the new computer running SL server has the same local name and IP address as the previous G5 (now off of the network)
    - Our windows (Vista) computer cannot see the server on the network. This was not a problem with the G5 and SMB filesharing.
    - I cannot access server preferences due to this error: "Unable to set node credentials for /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 with the record name server.mydomain.com$ There may be a problem with the Open Directory service."
    - server admin is treacherously slow both locally and remotely.
I cold really use some help on these folks. I'd sincerely appreciate it.

Thanks for your input everyone. I turned off DNS (just to see) and it's still slow. Frankly I am not sure if I even need it yet. My goal is only to setup local services and then open the server up to the WAN.
My provides the DNS I suppose. MY ISP points to my WAN IP and my router directs that to my server's internal IP. At least that's how things are setup now and left over from when i was using Snow Leopard client as a fake server (for filesharing and DayLite).
I did setup the initial DNS settings of Snow Leopard Server after the install to the computer's IP address which I assigned manually and left the rest to get from my router's DHCP server. I setup the zone (home.mydomain.com)
    Any ideas for the sluggishness.

  • SNOW LEOPARD SERVER PROBLEMS REQUIRE CERTIFIED CONSULTANT TO HELP

I've had a pretty unstable Snow Leopard server install since it was upgraded from Leopard a few months ago. Some of the problems were said to be hardware related, but I've been unable to migrate it to a different computer (Mac Mini).
The current installation is running, albeit poorly.
We had a Mac consultant involved in these issues, but he has proven to be unstable and unreliable as well - so we're on a search for a new consultant to give us some paid assistance in straightening this thing out.
We're not on the US mainland, but can make the server accessible by ARD and/or SSH to someone.
Someone with Apple certification would be preferred.

    Hi Brian,
I'm an IT consultant dealing with Mac OS Servers and Windows Servers as well as Linux. I can offer a few helpful suggestions since just recently I transferred data from a Mac OS 10.5.8 Server to a 10.6.2 Server.
My first question to you is what data are you immigrating from? example 10.5.8 Server Data to 10.6.2 server?
The reason why I ask this since IMAP data in 10.5.8 and before was using Cyrus and starting in 10.6 apple switched to Dovecot.
Initially, I did not realized that apple made the switch and had stalling problems using the apple migration tool. (Personally I don't think the tool works well since a lot of others are running into this problem when researching this issue).
In the end I decided it was best to important everything manually, mail and not use the apple immigration tool since I think it has some issues.
The first thing I would do is make sure the DNS is configure right so that the server can resolve it's name which is very important.
Hopefully you're been running Open Directory . Export the users from the old server and import it to the new 10.6.2 server.
Next transfer the IMAP mail from 10.5.8 server to the 10.6 server to the same locations.
Example in 10.5.8 server default location is
    /var/imap
    and
    /var/spool/imap
note this is where cyrus stored imap data in 10.5.x and maybe before. I have to look at my old 10.4 server since I'll be upgrade my own server soon.
My clients Servers have been upgrade fine by doing the manual method.
    anyway...
keep those two locations in mind of where you mail is stored.
next I would copy your old cyrus mail to the new server. Don't use the migration tool at all. Just setup the new server and get the DNS running so it can resolve itself before you do this.
also make sure mail server is not running and it's off.
    open up a terminal window
copy and paste this but change the name of the volume/hard drive name (HD_name)
    sudo /usr/libexec/dovecot/migratemaildata.pl --cyrusBin "/Volumes/HD_name/usr/bin/cyrus/bin" --database "/Volumes/HD_name/var/imap" --sourceSpool "/Volumes/HD_name/var/spool/imap" --targetSpool "/var/spool/imap/dovecot/mail"
ok do this will convert all of your cyrus mail to dovecot. Make sure you've already imported the users from Open Directory before doing this script.
    after all of this
    there's still one more step
for some reason the postfix "main.cf" file is configured to use cyrus in 10.6.2 update.
    /etc/postfix/main.cf
you can use the pico editor if you like.
    example
    type in at terminal window
    sudo pico /etc/postfix/main.cf
it should be near the end of the file
don't bother with anything that's in # which is ignored.
    look for
    mailbox_transport = cyrus
    then change it to
    mailbox_transport = dovecot
    save the changes
edit settings in the mail server with server admin to what you had... I recommend don't importing the mail settings from the old server admin since some people reported that its better just to manually configure it.
however for other server admin settings you might try to export and import to the new server.
If you have any questions just let me know and I'm glad to help the mac community.

  • Problem creating mailing list with Server Console

    Hi,
when I create a new mailing list, I do the following:
    1. Right click on groups folder in Console
    2. Choose New->Group
    3. Entering all data and checking "Mail Account" under Account
The documentation sais, that a Mail-tab should now appear. But this is not the case for me!?
I can only create the group like this and have to add the attribute "mail" - to enter an email address - manually..
Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong or missing something? Also disallowing posting on this group can only be set manually. Shouldnt all this be done using a nice GUI dialog?
I'm using Directory Server 5.2 Patch 2. Also tried 5.2 Patch 4. Both same problem.
    Thanks in advance

  • Snow Leopard Client Dock Behavior & Binding to Snow Leopard Server

    Hi,
I am at a loss on this issue. I am running a test server and client. I had bound my client to the server and was having difficulties with the dock settings on the client. I assumed it was a managed preferences issue on the server, so I checked all the ones I knew to check. It didn't appear that my client dock was being managed by my server. The problem was that the dock would switch from auto-hide to fixed and the preferences under dock could not be altered on the client.
I've found that the only way to resolve this problem is to unbind the client from the server. Can anyone tell me what I need to be looking for within the server? Could there be an inherited preference from somewhere within the server?
The other element to this is that this issue didn't arise until after I upgraded to 10.6.3. Prior the upgrade I was bound to the server, and the dock was fine. After the upgrade the dock preferences on the client were no longer able to be managed.
I am new to server and need some help.
    Thanks

    Thanks!
So, when I click Join..., type in the server, and then click on the Set Up Services button, I enter the username and password for the account I created on Snow Leopard Server. It switches the sheet to show that it's "Joining the server", and then fails with: "kGotAuthenticationFailure". The Password Service Server Log shows that is actually succeeded: "AUTH2: {0x4b5897f87cada0f20000001500000015, diana} DIGEST-MD5 authentication succeeded".
If I actually enter an incorrect password, it right away gives me an "Authentication failed" message right below the password dialog in red.
The console on the Snow Leopard client shows:
    10-01-21 11:10:16 AM System Preferences[248] -[ODCOSXServerJoinController(XSServiceDiscoveryProtocol) gotServicesInfo:fromServer:error:]: got error kGotAuthenticationFailure
I don't see any other messages on the server that might explain this. Any ideas?
This server was upgraded from Leopard Server, if that matters...

  • Can't add Computer or New Computer list on 10.3.9 Server Workgroup manager

I have a 10.3.9 server with Open Directory running. I can manage user and group preferences (Workgroup manager v2.0.1) but can't add a computer or new computer list because the option is disabled. If I connect to it's open directory from another server running 10.3.9 and same version of Workgroup Mgr, the new computer list and adding computers is enabled. This other server is in another subnet and not typically available for use by the network admin of the problem server. Any ideas to get the computer management enabled?

    Hi,
    an additional discovery I made:
Take the account "A", which is functioning on these two "problem-clients". I change the password from "123456" to "abcdef".
I try to log in this account with one of these two Macs... -> does NOT work
I try to log in this account with another Client (w/o problems) -> does work
I change the password back to "123456"
I try to log in this account with one of these two Macs -> does work
I deleted the accounts and created new ones. The accounts work fine on every Mac despite these two machines.
It looks like these two clients are not updating the directoryservice information.
So I tried to get a look, which information is readable at the client machines (which are making the trouble):
    lookupd version 369.5 (root 2006.12.02 12:00:25 UTC)
Enter command name, "help", or "quit" to exit

    + Age: 0 (expires in 43200 seconds)
    + Negative: No
    + Cache hits: 0
    + Retain count: 7
I gathered this information on the client, which can NOT log into this account. I can try all new or changed accounts, all are visible to the client....
    Does anybody here unterstand this?
    • the used accounts are all ok
    • other accounts work fine on this two machines
    • the problem only occurs on changed or new accounts.
    • reverting the changed accounts to the old state: the accounts work again

  • Snow leopard server is created endless duplicates in OSX Lion clients

I am running a snow leopard server with address book server.  My client computer was Snow leopard and have no problem syncing with the 10.6 server in address book.  After the client computer is upgraded to 10.7 Lion, the address book application is creating a never ending stream of duplicate address entries in the client computer.  It happens to all the upgraded 10.7 computers.  The entries just keep multiplying into the thousands until I stop the address book server.  Anybody know of this problem and how to fix it??

The address book on my mac somehow duplicated my contacts to the point where instead of about 200, I have about 100,000!  The program crashes  - if it even opens at all, which is sometimes doesnt - whenever I try to delete more than just a few.  And if it doesn't crash, it just takes forever to process.  At this rate I need a solid 3 hours to sit here and delete a few contacts at a time!  Did you ever figure out how to resolve this problem?

  • How do I create a virtual directory in Snow Leopard Server Admin program?

Hi, how do you use the server admin program in snow leopard server to create an apache virtual directory? I can't see it in the applet anywhere. Thank you.

Well this is what I thought too but I don't think I'm doing something right. I have a default website on port 80 and I created a second site on the same port. They are two different websites. One is the initial one that comes stock with the osx. The second one I created.
When I browse to my server I get the second site. How can I get the default to be the one that points to the mail, wiki, calendar stuff, while my second domain is something totally different.
http://myserver (should be the default stuff like mail.)
http://myserver/mysecondsite (should be my other stuff.)
The problem is that when I go to http://myserver it is going to http://myserver/mysecondsite
What am I doing wrong? Thank you.

  • OS X 10.5.8 Leopard Server & SMB authentication problems

    Hi all,
I am in charge of a OSX Leopard server. The platform has Windows XP /Windows Vista / OSX computers and as the server has a high capacity NAS it seemed logical to share it using SMB.
The initial set up was done having in mind just the MACs, and they have no issues connecting to the SMB shares. The problem is on Windows side.
Windows machines are supposed to use the SMB shares with Open Directory Accounts. But whenever we create an SMB share, there is a strange behaviour: files could be uploaded to the server, but once copied, they can't be copied back to windows machines, triggering the error (more or less, as the error text is in spanish): "File operation could not be completed, source file could not be found"
For debugging purposes, we have just created a share, step by step , identify which the problem is:
1 - Create a user from Workgroup manager, no admin capabilities.
2 - Create a folder under "Shared Items" Folder.
3 - Disable "Enable Spotlight Search"
4 - Disable AFP, FTP, NFS (leaving just SMB as sharing protocol)
5 - SMB protocol options: Disable "Allow guest access", Asign permmissions as follows: Owner: RW, Group R, Everyone R.
6 - We then go to permissions and choose user created at step 1, set him ACL permissions as RW.
    7 - Save changes.
After that, we reboot our Windows test machine, flushing its dns cache previously.
Then when trying to connect to the share,an error message on our XP box says that we have no permissions to connect to the sahre (using our test user credentials). SMB log displays the following:
+setupnew_vcsession: New VC == 0, if NT4.x compatible we would close all old resources.+
    +[2009/10/23 12:05:20, 2, pid=29029] /SourceCache/samba/samba-187.9/samba/source/auth/auth.c:checkntlmpassword(319)+
    +checkntlmpassword: Authentication for user [] -> [] FAILED with error NTSTATUS_NO_SUCHUSER+
Thanks in advance and best regards.
    Message was edited by: javierspn

    Edit:
I can now connect with the new user. Something to do with DNS cache and opened sessions on the SMB server that I manually closed.
However, same problem: I can upload files but whenever I try to copy one from the server to any XP workstation:
    http://yfrog.com/3oerrorjkj
Basically meaning in plain English that the source file could not be found.

  • My Problems with Netboot, PPC iMacG5, 10.5.6, Leopard Server-Solved

Several contributors steps helped me out, in this archived thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1649502
I have added my own steps, for record, as I could not add to the archived thread.
Problem: OSX 10.5.6 Server, set to an "Octopus" configuration,
( Standalone server, hooked into a Cisco 2950 Switch, switch manages DHCP, keeps all traffic localized)
Hooked iMac G5 clients into switch. Set Server to netboot a PPC Leopard 10.5.6
image made from same iMac G5 client. Hooked six iMac G5's into the switch,
one fired off successfully, five all failed, going to Kernel Panic after first one
kicked off successfully. Tested scenario with 3 Intel MacBooks imaging
an intel MB 10.5.6 image, same server and switch, all deployed successfully.
Following a combination of Brian Neeson's and Kellefson's Steps:
    1. Stop Netboot Service on Server.
    2. Disable Netboot Shares, save changes
    3. Launch Activity Monitor, stop nfsd service. ( Force Quit) It auto starts again
    4. Re-enable Netboot Shares
    5. Start Netboot Service, select PPC Image, Set to PPC Achitecture only, save changes
    6. Reboot Leopard Server.
Issue is now resolved, and images deploy successfully, testing 2 PPC iMac G5s without fail.
Posting this so I can set a subscription to it ( so I can find it faster, I cannot set
a subscription to the archived post) and to help others with same issue.

Ok, I finally had some time to come back to this
and try out a few things.
One of the things that kept perplexing me about this was that only
PPC White iMac G5's, 1.6ghz models, were constantly affected by this issue.
I tried it looking at it from the server end: Recreated the Netboot NFS share point,
recreated the 10.5.6 image as a gold master, made sure all nbi's were in their proper
    locales.
I tried looking at it from the iMac itself: swapping out Hard drives, Logic Boards,
Zappring PRAM, replacing and swapping out Ram, etc.
Finally after stepping away from it for a week to look at
    InstaDMG, it dawned on me......
Josh, ( I believe) in his webinar, said that to build your
image using instaDMG, you should use Leopard 10.5 Retail disc as the
base of choice, and then put everything in as a package deployment
    on top of that.
+So that got me to thinking, what if 10.5.6 was problematic for deployment,+
+but not so for updating the system in general?+
That got me to remembering that that wouldn't be the first time Apple
has released an update that screwed up NetInstalling
    ( 10.5.2, 10.4.10, and 10.3.4 come to mind).
*So I then decided to try a new test:*
I went back to a good known working no problems White iMac G5 PPC 1.6ghz machine,
wiped the HD, and installed 10.5.0 on it, and then put all my apps back on it.
I then updated every app and patched the Apple essentials ( Quicktime, Airport0
but did not update the OS.
I then Target FW'd it to my Xserve, and used Apple's SIU to create the image.
Then, I deployed it back to three iMacs in a row through the network.
Success! no KPs and the iMacs all flawlessly deployed.
I then tried another set of three, and success again....all three had no KP
at booting into Netinstall, and all three deployed successfully.
*So I believe that I have fixed my issue!*
My next test is to create an image that will post deploy the 10.5.6 combo update
to the iMacs after the 10.5.0 image is deployed, but even if I run into
problems there, My workaround will be just to deploy 10.5.0, and then
ARD out 10.5.6 combo after the machines have restarted and booted successfully.

  • Trying to create an account on eprintcenter but it gives me an error regarding server problem

I am trying to create an account on eprintcenter since one month but it gives me an error regarding server problem
"Lo lamentamos. ¡Se acaba de producir un problema en nuestro servidor! Hemos registrado el problema y lo corregiremos en cuanto sea posible. Disculpe la molestia."
"Sorry. There is problem on our server. He have registered the problem and solve as soon as possible. Sorry for the inconvinience"
How can I use eprint service without a user?

What browser are you using to access the site? I would start by trying to access the site from another browser. If that is not an option, I would clear the viewing history, cookies and cache for that browser under the settings. Then I would reboot the computer too. I hope that this helps.

  • Creating a list of names and putting them into a computer file

I am trying to create a list of names which is generated by a swf file that contains buttons representing letters of the alphabet. The user generates a name by clicking on the letter buttons until the letters of the name have been spelled out and then clicking on a “Submit” button to add each name to the list. The names are generated inside the swf file but I want the list of names to be deposited in a file within a folder of the computer and remain there as a permanent record after the swf file has been closed. I can do the Actionscript 3 programming associated with the letter buttons but I would like to know how to send the names to the computer file.

Here is some simplified code which illustrates the problem I am having. I have four buttons A2_btn thru D2_btn. These buttons can be clicked to put a sequence of letters into the input text window called requestedItem_txt. The button called submit_btn can be clicked to put the sequence of letters (preceded with a comma) into the window called requestedItemList_txt and append the sequence of letters (and comma) to whatever is already in the window. This part is working satisfactorily. I also want to write the contents of the requestedItemList_txt window into a file on my computer as a permanent record each time the submit_btn button is clicked. I get an error message for the flush statement and I don’t get any file written on my computer. This problem completely baffles me so I would appreciate any help you can provide.

  • Problem in creating a list.

    Hello!
How do I create a list in an applet? What do I need to import? I have a simple applet below that contains a list. Yet when I compile it, en error message comes up. The error is shown below.
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.applet.*;

    List list;
    public void init()
    list = new List( 5, false );
    add( list );

the code above encounters the error:
    ListApplet.java:11: cannot resolve symbol
    symbol: constructor List (int,boolean)
    location: class List
    list = new List( 5, false );
    1 error
what do I have to do to make this work? I'm a beginner in java. Please be specific when suggesting solutions. Thanks for your help! I really appreciate it!

There seems to be no problem with your code
From your error message, it seems that your code cannot find the constructor for java.awt.List
Did you write a class on your own by the name List because it will overide the one in jdk
if you did write a code by the name List you may rename the class or add in another constructor to take in (int, boolean) as parameter
nope. I didn't write a class named List. I already have my classpath set to (.) and path to ...c:\jdk1.3\bin.

  • Problem creating source list

    Hi
We are on ECC 5.0 and in one of our ABAP programs create a PIR as a first step using ME11 BDC call and then go ahead to create a sourcelist for the material + plant and the vendor ( for which PIR was created in the first step ) .
To create source list we use the following function modules ( fms )  in sequence
    ME_INITIALIZE_SOURCE_LIST
    ME_DIRECT_INPUT_SOURCE_LIST
    ME_POST_SOURCE_LIST_NEW
What we observe is that - the ME_DIRECT_INPUT_SOURCE_LIST fm always raises an abort message - ' No PIR exists for the material and vendor ' even though PIR is created in the first step and we check for its existence before we call the fms for the source list. However if we introduce a wait for upto 15 seconds after the PIR has been created the sourcelist creation goes through.
Any idea why the above is happening. Similar situations faced with source list creation - shared is appreciated. Correct answers helping me solve this problem will be promptly rewarded

    Hi Karthik,
System takes some time to COMMIT all the work thats why it's happening.
