Create Dial Up Connection

please, How can I create a Dial Up Connection and manage it for Windows 9X, 2000, NT and Millenium?
Thank you!!

Creating windows DialUp connections is going to be kind of hard.
The usual way to use a modem in Java is to use JTAPI.
The reason is that a dialup connection is a 'windows only' concept. As Java is a 'cross platform' language, it doesn't support 'platform specific' calls.
If you actually want to create a Dialup connection in Java, you are probably going to have to write it in C and use JNI to call your C function.

  • Configure dial-up connection in Oracle Enterprise Linux Release 4-3.7.11

Hallo!I have just finished installing Oracle Enterprise Linux Release 4-3.7.11 so that I can set up Oracle 10g on this Linux platform.
But first I need to set up a few configurations e.g enable my OEL connect to the internet via a dial-up modem.
I have used my modem successfully on openSUSE 11.2 and Ubuntu 9.04 but I am unable to use it on OEL.
My ubuntu configurations are as follows
    Connection Name:ZAIN
    Number:*99#
    APN:ke.celtel.com
How do I set up dial-up in OEL using the settings above?
Also, simple commands to restart the OEL such as shutdown -r now are not being found when I type them in the terminal. How can this be so?
    Thanks.

Use wvdial to dial out using the modem, authenticate, and have it launch the pppd daemon for creating an IP connection via the modem.
If you want to configure manually, you will need to edit the files pap-secrets and chap-sercrets in +/etc/ppp+. Then you also need a unique config file for your connection defined in the +/etc/ppp/peers+ directory.
These files are fairly simple to edit. The secret files contains your ISP authentication details. The peers file the phone number and account name (from the secret files) to use. wvdialconf should configure this accordingly though.
There's lot of details available on the web - suggest you google.

  • Want to disable/"grey out" dial-up connection "settings" button in the "connections" tab of Internet Options

Hi, I'm looking to "grey out" a dial-up connection for some users in workplace, so that they are forced to use our VPN client in order to access the web. Does anyone know if this is possible?
I know you can disable all settings on that tab using local group policy, (e.g. Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet Explorer) but I only want to disable a specific dial-up connection (for usb 3G modems).
I've read of various IE settings being locked down in the registry here, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions, but havent seen the settings I want.
The actual connection is visible here, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Connections, I just cant figure out how to grey it out. Any ideas? Thanks!

The following Group Policy settings can be edited and applied to users that are members of the Group Policy object (GPO) in which the Group Policy setting is included. By default, the Group Policy settings are not configured.
Prohibit deletion of remote access connections. If you enable this Group Policy setting, then affected users cannot delete any remote access connections, including those they create themselves.
Prohibit access to the Remote Access Preferences item on the Advanced menu. If you enable this Group Policy setting, then affected users cannot access the
Remote Access Preferences setting on the Advanced menu of the Network Connections folder. The top menu bar, including the
Advanced menu, appears when you press the ALT key.
Prohibit access to properties of a LAN connection. If you enable this Group Policy setting, then affected users cannot change any of the properties of a LAN connection.
Ability to change properties of an all user remote access connection. If you enable this Group Policy setting, then affected users can modify the properties of a remote access connection that is shared with the other users on the computer.
By default, standard users can only modify properties for a connection that is not shared.
Prohibit connecting and disconnecting a remote access connection. If you enable this Group Policy setting, then affected users cannot connect by using any remote access connection, or disconnect any that are currently connected.
Prohibit changing properties of a private remote access connection. If you enable this Group Policy setting, then affected users cannot change the remote access connection properties that are not shared. By default, standard users can modify
    connections that are not shared.
Prohibit renaming private remote access connections. If you enable this Group Policy setting, then affected users cannot rename remote access
connections that are not shared. By default, standard users can modify connections that are not shared.

  • Flash accessing the Dial Up connection

I'm new to the forums, so hello to everybody.
I've got a project on my hands, an interactive kiosk. I've created the interface in Flash, but I have some issues I can't get past. First of all, I want to create an emergency call feature, where the user presses a button and the kiosk dials the emergency number (112 for Europe). Now, how can I make the Flash movie call upon Windows' dial up connection, dial a number, establish a connection then disconnect? I know that Flash can't use Windows services directly, so how can I accomplish this?
My second issue is that I also would like to create a photo-shoot system, where the Flash movie takes a snapshot from the webcam, saves it as a file, then the user needs to input his email address and the file is sent by email as an attachment.
I hope I've been clear enough. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

  • Sharing the dial-up connection of a PC laptop--either wired, or wirelessly

Hello, fellow Mac users! I just got my first Mac--a beautiful 1.83 GHz MacBook. I LOVE the switch to OS X from Windows XP.
    Anyway, here's problem:
I am leaving on vacation, and, unfortunately the resort at which we are staying does not have Internet Access, so I am forced to use dial-up. Unfortunately, since I have heard very bad reports about the Apple USB Modem, I can't get a modem for the MacBook itself, so I will use my PC laptop's modem. The PC Laptop is a Windows XP Pro machine. So, here's the problem--try as I might, I just cannot get the darn PC laptop to share its dial-up connection; either over a ethernet cross-over cable, or adhoc Wi-Fi.
So, please help me get this to work, or I will be forced to use a PC laptop to check e-mail, RSS feeds, and anything else online.
Thanks in advance! (And thanks, Steve Jobs, for helping to create some of the best computers out there!)

Here is from the help support on xp :
    Configure,a dial-up
connection, click the connection that you want to
configure, and then, under Network Tasks, click Change
    settings of this connection.
Do one or more of the following:
To configure dialing devices that your computer uses
to make a connection (a modem, for example), phone
numbers, host addresses, country or region codes, or
dialing rules, click the General tab.
To configure dialing and redialing options, or X.25
    settings, click the Options tab.
To configure identity authentication, which is a way
to help verify your computer’s identity when making a
connection, data encryption (which codes the content
so that it’s less likely to be readable by someone
other than the intended recipient), or terminal window
and scripting options, click the Security tab.
To configure the remote access server that you want to
connect to and protocols (the format that your
computer uses to communicate with other computers)
used for this connection, click the Networking tab.
To turn Internet Connection Sharing on or off or
configure your computer to establish a dial-up
connection automatically, click the Advanced tab.
    When you run the
Network Setup Wizard and enable Internet Connection
Sharing, some protocols, services, interfaces, and
routes are configured automatically. The following
    table describes these configured items.
    Configured item Action
IP address 192.168.0.1 Configured with a subnet mask
of 255.255.255.0 on the LAN adapter that is connected
to the home or small office network.
    Autodial feature Enabled.
Static default IP route Created when the dial-up
    connection is established.
    Internet Connection Sharing service Started.
DHCP allocator Enabled with the default range of
192.168.0.1 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. Unique
addresses in the range 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.254
are allocated to private network clients.
So try to use dhcp on your network setting or something between those range listed above with a cross over cable (make sure the cross over cable has good connection).

  • BM VPN causing dial-up connections to disappear - Air Card

I'm having an issue with BM VPN. I have an end user on an XP laptop who needs to connect via BM VPN using his Verizon Wireless Broadband Air Card. The Broadband Cards are always listed under Dial-Up Connections in Network Connections, but after installing BM VPN, the dial-up connections are no longer there and if I try to manually create a connection, it is greyed out. Also, to no avail, the following services in XP are not turned on and for the life of me I cannot get them to start:
    Remote Accesss Auto Connection Manager
    Remote Accesss Connection Manager
From what I've read, these services must be on in order to create a new dial-up connection. The Broadband card refuses to connect due to the fact that a dial-up connection cannot be created. The Broadband card and software were installed and working before BM VPN was installed. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling BM VPN, but that didn't fix the problem.
Also, if I look under the Novell Client properties, Location Profiles Tab, VPN, Properties, Properties again, and finally the VPN Dial-Up tab, there is a message that says "A VPN dial-up initialization has occurred. Microsoft Dial-Up Networking is not installed." I don't know if this means anything or is related to the problem, but I thought I'd relay this information as well. I looked for ways to reinstall the Microsoft Dial-Up Networking, but all articles refer to Windows 95 or 98 installations. I've also reinstalled Windows XP SP3 successfully, but it didn't fix the problem.
Has anyone else ever ran into a problem like this and can help me? I'm so lost and desperate for help. Thanks.

I'm not sure how to recover on the system that is currently broken -
though I suspect some form of remove/reinstall MS components should get
    you back running again.
When you install the VPN client, and you select the dial-up option, it
basically tries to integrate the MS dial up networking system into VPN
menus. I don't think it really invents anything new there. If there
is something non-standard on the dial-up entries, it may be that the
VPN installation doesn't handle it properly. I don't know, because
I've not installed that component or used it in years.
What I would recommend is to not install the dial-up component on with
the VPN client. Just leave it off, make a usual dial-up connection,
and then launch the VPN client. The VPN dial-up component just
tries to manage all of that so you do it with less button clicks.

  • HT4972 Can you sync and back up with a dial up connection

Can you back up iPhone 3GS using a dial up connection?  If not what other options?

If you are trying to back up to iCloud, I don't think so.  But even if you normally back up to iCloud you can still perform a manual backup with iTunes.  Just connect your phone to your computer, when it appears in iTunes on the left sidebar right-click on its name and choose Backup.  This will create a backup on your computer which can later be used, if necessary, to restore from using iTunes.

  • Dont you just hate dial-up-connections

    Hi,
I have developed a simple java application that is used to remotly administer a database. The application connects to a server which in turn connects to the database. The user navigates the database by a series of navagational buttons(forward, back, first ect). When one of these buttons are pressed a record number is sent to the server which gets the corrosponding record from the database and creates an Object of the data and sends it to the application via ObjectOutputStream. The application then displays all the information in a GUI. This works (just)OK on a broadband connection because it is fast enough for the user not to notice the data transfer. But if the application is been run on a dial up connection the application stalls while the record is got every time a navagational button is pressed. This can be very anoying if you need to get to a certain record and hava to go through serveral records to get there. I was thinking in the line of Threads but I dont know how to implement it. Any Ideas.
    Thanks,
    John Celary.

So to give a simple example, when the user starts up the application he/she sees record number 1. And to go to record number 10, has to press the "Next" button 9 times and wait while each record is brought down from the server. Right?
Well, you could have a background thread that is already reading record number 2, and 3, and so on while the user is staring at record number 1 on the screen. You would have to have your "Next" button interface with that thread to ask it for record number 2, which it might already have, and wait if it didn't. Then you have the problem of deciding how far ahead this thread should be allowed to get... if the user leaves the room for a break, should it read the next 12,000 records?
On the other hand you could change your application so that the user could say "Give me record number 10" or "Give me the record about Omar's Bakery". This would only require waiting for one record and might improve the user's experience too.

  • I lost the dial up connection dialog box. I unchecked a check item in the dial connetion box. How do I get the dial up connection back?

I established a dial up connection by updating to automatic the remote managers and telephony in administrative tool services area on my XP system according to firefox help instructions.
At first I had a dial up connection but I unchecked an item in the
dial up connection box. I am not sure what I unchecked or toggled
off. I then lost the dial up connection. I need to get the dial connection dialog box back. What needs to be done
    Thank you.

I see no direct connection.. a printer and the computer setup for internet are not related.
But it sounds like the router in the wife's office is now in the wrong mode..
If you have an existing main router replace the second router for a switch .. that is the easy way.
Otherwise you need to bridge the router if it has that option.. most do not. Or use wan bypass.. where you turn off the dhcp server in the router and fix its ip to match the range of the main router.. this is the hassle of using router as a switch.
BUT I am making a huge number of assumptions.
What I need is the full network layout.. a quick picture would help.
I need main modem.. main router.. (maybe same box or different).. make model and current IP address and how dhcp is setup.
I need secondary router.. if that is what it is, IP and settings.
I want the printer type and model. How it is connected.
BTW I much prefer to see a network printer plugged into the network rather than usb.. it is only a matter of sorting the IP settings and driver pointing to the network rather than local.
Or you should think of it as a broken washing machine and call the technician.. who could fix the whole lot in an hour.

  • Not possible to open/create a new connection within BT manager on Satellite M40

Bluetooh manager is open and present in system bar.
However it is never possible to open/create a new connection within bluetooth manager as it always say "bluetooh is not ready". Troubleshooting is required but no clear indication is available; button for wireless link is active and I am able to have wifi internet access at the same time.
It is never possible to open access to a PDA or mobile phone for file transfer through bluetooth.
Do i have to reload completely the bluetooth stack or is there another way to troubleshoot the bluetooh system?
Thanks you for replying if possible.

Remove the Bluetooth Monitor software if it is installed. Download the latest BT-stack v5.10.06 here:
