Create disc fails

Hi all. I'm really frustrated.
I have a series of long movies that I am turning into Blu-ray discs. One movie in particular always fails, after the encode. It creates the intermediate BDMV folder, and then reports that it failed due to inadequate disc space. There are 200 free GB on the disc. If I click "try again" then it will work for a while and fail again with DSPPublishing error -1024. Other movies done in the same way don't have this problem. I've tried it with a new user and get the same results.
Any help?

Hi all.
I think the problem was fixed by the recent pro apps update, and I think I know how. I noticed that after the update the automatically-calculated bitrate dropped from 12.5 to 11.5. So it would appear that it was an error in the bitrate estimation used to fill the disc.
It would appear that once Create Disc starts to build, it will report a "out of space" error if the BDMV folder will be too large, even if it is going to a disc image rather than physical disc. I assumed that if the BDMV folder was too large for a 25GB image, I would have seen a disc image be created in the output directory first. I never saw that happen, so I figured the bitrate/filesize was not the problem. I wonder if there is a temp disc image stored somewhere, that probably did reach capacity, or if the only actual image the final one, usually on the desktop.

  • Recovery from created discs failed...what did I do wrong?

I had created the recovery discs shortly after getting the T61 - 6459CTO w/ Vista.  It created 1 CD to be labeled START Recovery  and 2 DVDs labeled Product Recovery 1 & 2.  BIOS sequence was changed to boot from the CD.
Inserted and booted from the start recovery CD.  It then asked if I had an Operating System Recovery Disc...I said YES but none of the 3 discs were recognized as valid after inserting so I pressed NO.  It then asked for Product recovery Disc 1 and Disc 2 which I did.  It then asked for a Supplemental recovery disc.  I don't have one of those and pressed no.    A message started counting down...went down to 1 second and the machine hung.  I finally had to hold the power button for an extended time to power it down.
    (a) Should my system have created an OS recovery disc?
    (b) Should it have created a Supplemental Product disc?
    (c) Is this the proper sequence for a recovery from disc to "out of the box"  state?
    (d) suggestions?  (other than calling tech support for factory discs)
    Thanks much!

    hello
i assume that you have lost your hidden partiiton right?
supplementary s/w disks are model specific and donnot have much of an importance in recvery process it is the choice of the users according to which either you can use supplimentary cd's or not.but those cd's may contain essential s/w for runnning some services of your system as well..so coming to recovery thing ..if you aleady had vista installed you should not have done the reocovery process..if you still have vista installed try making the discs once again

  • I tunes: when trying to burn a playlist I keep getting the message: the attempt to burn a disc failed. The disc could not be read from or written to. I am using version 12

I tunes: I am using version 12 of I tunes. Ever since downloading it I get the message when trying to burn a playlist it says, The attempt to burn a disc failed. The disc could not be read from or written to.
I uninstalled V-12 and then reinstalled it. This enabled me to burn a disc again but after a couple of tries I received the same error message again. Has Apple put out a fix to this problem that anyone is aware of?
    Thanks.

    Hi rossfrombluffton,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  The resource below provides some general things to consider when burning a disc with iTunes.  I would also try burning a music CD and a data disc from a different application in the Windows OS and trying a different brand CD just to confirm the issue is not with the optical drive.
Can't burn a CD in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-ae/HT203173
Find out what to do if you can't burn an audio CD using iTunes for Windows. Sometimes an audio disc may not burn as expected. Here are some things to check.
    Update iTunes
Download and install the latest version of iTunes for Windows.Check for unauthorized songs
iTunes will stop burning a disc if you purchased one or more of the songs in a playlist from the iTunes Store and the songs aren't authorized to play on your computer. This message should appear: "Some of the files can not be burned to an audio CD. Do you still want to burn the remainder of this playlist? For more information on why some files can not be burned, click below."
To find out which songs aren't authorized, play each song in the playlist. Songs that play are authorized. Songs that don't play aren't authorized. You'll be asked to authorize any unauthorized songs.Make sure your playlist will fit on a single CD
If there are too many songs in a playlist to fit on a single CD, iTunes should ask if you want to burn multiple discs or cancel the burn. This message should appear: "The songs in this playlist will not fit on one Audio CD. Do you want to create multiple Audio CDs with this playlist split across them? This will require more than one blank CD to complete."
If you click the Audio CDs button, the burn will continue and you'll be asked to insert blank CDs until the playlist is completely burned. If you click cancel, the burn will be canceled.
To make the playlist shorter so that it will fit on a single CD, select a song to remove from the playlist and choose Edit > Clear. Repeat this step until the duration of the playlist is between 60 and 80 minutes. The duration appears at the top of the playlist window. Most CD-R discs can hold 60 to 80 minutes of music.
Check how many times you've burned the playlist
An unchanged playlist that contains songs purchased from the iTunes Store can be burned no more than seven times.Additional steps and submitting feedback

I am trying to burn a cd after upgrading to itunes 12 and this message keeps coming up."The attempt to burn a disc failed. The disc could not be read from or written to." there is no problem with my hardware since I can burn cds using nero. Please help. Thanks

Here is a solution that worked for me!
    1. Uninstall iTunes 12
    2. Download and install iTunes 11.4
    3. Run iTunes 11.4. You will get a message that the library was created by a newer version. Just dismiss the message.
    4. Uninstall iTunes 11.4
    5. Install iTunes 12.0.1 again. This time disc burning should be working.
(The prior installation of 11.4 fixes the issue)

  • The attempt to burn a disc failed.  Not good.

Well, I feel like I have exhausted all means to fix my problem. Can't seem to burn a CD. Tried using the Utility functions in resetting my permissions and nothing seemed to work. I open itunes and select a playlist to burn, insert a blank disc, click the burn disc icon and I hear the attempt to burn. But after 30 seconds, the time in the message box starts to increase rather than decrease as the writing of the playlist stops completely. The message I get reads "The attempt to burn a disc failed. The device failed to respond properly, unable to recover or retry." In my console disc recording log the following appears:

  • Hp g5000 system recovery disc fails 1002

    Hi
My frends daughter took the hp laptop to america and subsequently the hard disc failed so with no recovery disc she went to a repair center and had a new hard disc fitted.
i ordered the system recovery disc from best2serve but the laptop would not boot from it?
I tried the disc in my HP Desktop and it worked fine so DVD player is suspect also.
I then tried my Dell Vista recovery disc from my C521 desktop and that worked fine.
If i then mounted the recovery disc it looked fine and i could read all the contents Strange Just cant boot from it.
Anyway downloaded the HP Bios update in case that would fix it (no good still would not boot)
so went back to my Desktop and built a USB Bootable flash drive with contents of Recovery disc
It booted fine and started recovery Manager selected rebuild Hard disc (cant remember exact words)
and shortly after failed error 1002 contact HP
have searched error 1002 and WoW wish i had just not wasted time buying the recovery disc as endless calls all say They do not work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ps It also destroyed the working Dell Vista that was on
can anyone suggest where to start
    1) to Install Genuine HP recovery image from recovery disc (with suspect dvd)
    2) get money back if possible
    3) ps AS USUAL OUT OF WARRANTY
    This question was solved.

    More on this saga,
the 120 gig drive replaced by 250 gig after first disk failed.
Purchased another dvd drive as could nor read HP recovery dvd (neither would work)
the second drive has exactly the same problem it would not read the dvd-r or dvd+r copies that I had created.
Wasted my money on problem that did not exist
( I should have known that XP and Dell Vista disks worked o/k so problem is with the Bios Firmware for this drive)
This time I used a USB Flash copy of Windows 7 Update DVD and removed all partitions leaving a completely unformatted disk.
Then rebuilt the USB flash drive this time with HP Recovery disk and started the recovery process. (the 1002 must mean I want a empty disk)
As I speak it has been going for over 2 hours with FBI gui manager doing bits of updating and rebooting.
one post says it will take 3 hours and 25 reboots ( i have lost count)
By Chance HP rang to say how was it going with replacement DVD that was sent (I bet he wished he had not rung he spent over 1 hour waiting with not much help as to what was expected to happen)
Told him about not being able to read DVD (solution 5 year old PC may not be able to read it!!!!!!!!!)
any way Flash usb copy of DVD does work if that help anyone.
One of the reboots showed PC Angel? something about recovery but as FBI GUI minimised I did nothing (dissapeared after next reboot)
Then went into recovery Manager and said creating recovery please wait (another 1/2 hour)
small problem ends with recovery manager said i wanted to recover and seems to have restarted the whole process again!!!!!
    urgh
Will update if the recovery fails or works so it may benefit all

  • Create Disc files

In previous versions of Compressor, selecting a Job Action to follow a compression job for DVD or Blu-ray (or using an equivalent template) caused Create Disc (bundled within Compressor) to create a UUID-named ".1cdvd" xml file in /var/tmp that could be used to redo a failed burn without having to recompress.
In this version (or maybe just in Mavericks) it's absent - or it it now stored elsewhere? A "locate" in the shell doesn't find it... and navigating to launch the Create Disc app directly doesn't help - there are no Recent Items in the list... any thoughts?
    Many thanks

Hi Fearless, just a workaround you might consider -  in compressor V4.1, "Create Disk" ofcourse is still at :
/Applications/Compressor.app/Contents/PlugIns/Compressor/CompressorKit.bundle/Co ntents/EmbeddedApps/Create\ Disc.app/Contents/MacOS/Create Disc (was previously embedded with Qmaster I recall).
I'd hazard a guess that here's likely some residual information in ~/application support/compressor/ that might be used to kick over the ENTIRE encode again rather than just the BD/DVD write.
    ls -1 ~/Library/Application Support/Compressor/Create**  ????
We use a different workflow to author the video_ts etc and test the authored bit before writing the media (rare these days).
    WORKAROUND SUGGESTIONS:
Compressor.app V4.1 UI RECENT ITEMS: You MIGHT want to use the RESTART information in Compressor.app V4.1. This is maintained in thec directory. The compressor.app V4.1 has a RESTART facility in the "COMPLETED" tab/pane...:
if the JOB is NOT in the Current Pane, simply locate it in the Completed pane list
select it and click the RESTART (icon with circular arrow) - this will restore the batch in BACK to the CURRENT pane
adjust the settings etc and SUBMIT (+b) again
CARE: this list is purged form the output_name  if cleared.
    or....
use/REUSE the Compressor.app V4. Job Action (for the BATCH) to construct a output_name.img at the Location you use. This will have a  video_ts / audio_ts or the BDMV output_name.264 object
then use Disk utility.app, Toast.app etc to make the spinning media.
saved Retranscoding all over again that would occur in Step 1.
Post your results for others to see.

I got an error message while burning a CD in iTunes - "the attempt to burn a disc failed.  The burn failed because of a medium write error."  What does this mean and how do I fix it?

The disk you are using probably has a defect, not uncommon on consumer grade disks. Try another disk or better yet another disk from a different manufacturer or at least a different batch.

The device is not accessible, probably because it was removed". I have never had it touched so the device was not removed. Please advise as to what could be the problem. How to fix. Thanks

Try resetting the SMC and PRAM first, if that doesn't help try a cleaning disc.....and then buy an inexpensive external burner. Slimline super drive failures are all too common.
    To reset the SMC
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • The attempt to burn a disc failed...error 4310

Everytime I try and burn songs on a cd from one of my playlists, the cd burner will complete 7 or 8 songs and then give me the following error message:
The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occured (4310)
I updated iTunes to it's newest version and I'm still having the same problem. It will never burn more then 8 songs and occasionally it will give me this message before it even finishes one song. This is VERY frusterating and I've ruined countless blank cd's trying to get this to work!
I also tried looking at other topics on this board from people with the same problem but my question was not answered.

    Hey Guys,
Got the error message "The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (-50) in iTunes.
I'm just trying to burn a few audio CDs.
Running most current verison of Mavericks, all software up to date.

Error -50 is a very unhelpful generic communications error with a number of possible causes.  Something between the drive to which you are downloading and the drive from which it is all coming is not working correctly, which probably leaves several hundred options.
Have you tried simply restarting the computer?

  • The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (4310).

I have been able to burn CDs from music I bought off iTunes. I haven't had any problems until now.
I just purchased Mike Doughty's Haughty Melodic, the whole album. Everytime it gets almost done burning, it gives this error:

I have wasted 3 blank CDs trying to burn this. I have a lot of experience with computers, I know there is nothing wrong with my hardware.
Is this is a problem with one of the files? Is there some kind of sub-routine that iTunes runs when trying to burn a CD? I have no idea why this is happening.
    Anyone have some advice?

    try this...
This is how I managed to fix the problem...and I hope this helps others in the similar situation.
I tried with another program..latest version of Nero, and this was also stopping at the 'initialising' stage. I was now lost! I thought the last resort is to give Evesham (My PC manufacturer) a buzz. They were very helpfull. Basically go into 'Control Panel', 'System', and click on the Hardware tab, then 'Device Manager'. Uninstall everything in the DVD/CDRom Drives. Then uninstall everything under the catagory IDE ATA/Atapi disk controllers. This is where my problem was, as I only had one IDE channel here. You should have 4 or 5! Reboot your machine, and everything will automatically re-load. I tried burning using Nero and it worked. Then the big test was iTunes. It worked 1st time!
I asked why the IDE channels have dissappearred, and he said sometimes uninstalling Programmes occasionally removes them.
I hope this will help others who are having problems to burn stuff on iTunes.
