Folder has been created but it displays as different symbol.

Hi,
if this happens I think the reason for this is that the system cannot create a document BOM header on basis of this document info record.
A possible reason for this could be that that user does not have sufficient permission to create a BOM. Please check if this works in transaction CV11 or if the user has permission for object C_STUE_BER.

Can I Create A Symbolic Link to folders stored on an SMB Share folder?

I am very new to Unix and was hoping that someone could point me in the right direction with regards to Symbolic links and an SMB share folder ....
Have purchased an ext. LAN Drive enclosure (http://www.macpower.com.tw/products/hdd3/pleiades/pd_usblan) which connects to my wireless router via ethernet like my G5 (main Mac) - our iBook connects via Airport. I have copied all my general documents/files to the SMB share folder on the ext. drive so that I can access them from the G5 and also the iBook.
However I'd also like to be able to store my actual Mail folder (/Users/Mark/Library/Mail/), , Safari folder (/Users/Mark/Library/Safari) + my Address Book and other folders sitting in the Application Support folder on my SMB share so all important docs/folders are in the one place. I've tried storing these folders on the SMB share and putting an Alias to these back in Users/Mark/Library/Mail etc but of course an Alias doesn't work.
Question 1: Can I create a symbolic link to these files if these are stored on an SMB share folder? If so, could you please tell me exactly what I'd need to type into Terminal? My SMB Share path is smb://STORAGE-XXXX/MARK
I have copied my iPhoto library and iTunes library to the SMB share and are working fine.
Question 2: Is it possible/worth attempting to move my whole home folder to the SMB share folder? Ideally, I'd like to be able to access my Mail from the iBook as well. If I could log into either the G5 or the iBook and access my latest Mail, Address Book and other Application Settings, that would be perfect. Would this be possible?

Yes you can. The command to create a link will look something like this:
$ ln -s thisFolder /Users/mark/thatFolder
I did this while I was hosting a microsoft based game. This put all of the players into a common directory.
SMB just resolved the link and everything worked fine.
However, as I understand it, some other applications do NOT work very well with links. As I have NOT tried it with other applications, I fear I can be of NO help to you in this matter.
The only way to find out which applications work with links is to try them and see what happens.

The Finder reports File information. The date and time of the photo are in the Photo's Exif metadata. The Finder has no awareness of this. All photos apps on any system do.

Another way:
Here's one (of several) way(s) to do what you want:
Make an Album of the photos, then drag the pics into your preferred order.
Then Photos Menu: Batch Change -> Set Title to Text "John's Birthday", for instance, and tick the box to append a number to each Photo. Now your photos are titled 'John's Birthday 001, John's Birthday 002 ... etc'
Then File -> Export and in the Export dialogue set the Filename to "Use Title"
Sort on Filename in the FInder and you end up with a folder full of images in the same order as the Album in iPhoto.

Time machine backup fails; error creating folder. Western Digital drive requires password which is perhaps/likely the issue. I can't eliminate the password/encryption.

Time Machine backup fails on new WD external drive (My Passport Studio); error creating folder (after several hours of Time Machine apparently working).
Background: I purchased a Western Digital drive from an Apple Store to use for Time Machine backup. I followed the Western Digital instructions that came with the drive for Mac. I didn't get the Time Machine prompt which the instructions indicated I would receive--namely to select whether I want to encrypt my Time Macine backups. (I already have a Time Machine backup I use at another location, which is perhaps why I didn't receive a prompt.)
I decided to install the Western Digital utilities and security software that comes on the disk--with a view to potentially encrypting the disk (since I still wanted to have an encrypted backup since I was mobile). I forgot that (from experience 2-years previous) that I shouldn't install Western Digital software because it just makes life really complicated.
I tried several times to do a Time Machine backup with failures each time (error creating the backup folder). I tried to get help from WD but I don't think the technicians were following what my issue was. Potentially I was not helpful in explaining it. I deleted the WD applications from my system after the first contact with WD. However the problem persisted--I still had an encrypted hard drive. After three phone sessions with three different WD techs I still could not get a solution. (By the second call I was not at all interested in having an encrypted drive--I just wanted to format and restore the drive to an unencrypted state so that I could have SOME kind of Time Machine backup.)
I still don't have a solution--either to get Time Machine working with the WD encryption/password on the drive, or to remove the encryption so I can backup. Right now my options are to return the drive to the Apple Store -- or get a return authorization from WD. Seems crazy since the drive is fine and I have the working password.

Never install "helpful software" provided by WD and Seagate (or any HD mfg.)
All such stuff is fluff and nonsense that interferes with normal HD operation.
Always when you buy a new HD, format it for Mac and then use it to TM backup or clone a HD, or archive data.
Less is more on HD new out of box. A "blank brick", no fluff and cotton candy software

I am watching the tutorial over "creating button symbols." When it gets to the part where while in the over keyframe you are supposed to click on swap, my properties panel looks different and does not have a swap button. Any suggestions?

Folder location in different drives

I'm not exactly sure how to phrase the problem but I'll try to explain.
I use a work laptop for may itunes (Dell, with XP). We have a central server that automatically backs up everything on the 'P' Drive of the laptop (work folders) every time I click it into the network in the office.
We have drive space for 'personal' use on the C Drive. This is where I keep my itunes folder, as if I try to keep it in the P drive it backs everything up to the server and clogs it up. The laptop won't shut down if that happens as it says I've exceeded my space.
Despite the fact that in preferences it says the folder is located in "C:\itunes" it keeps creating a 'My Music' folder in the P drive. If I delete this folder then when I open itunes again it is empty. So I have to drag in the folder from the C drive to update it, resubscribe to podcasts etc. As the folder unloads into itunes a new My Music folder automatically creates in the P drive, meaning it will all happen again! It is doing my head in!!
An additional irritant: when it transfers Apps into itunes from the C Drive folder it asks me if I want to 'replace the current google application' that is apparently already in itunes. How can it be in itunes already if it is empty and all I'm doing is putting the same folder back into it every time?
Why does it keep creating a new folder and why does deleting that folder delete my itunes library even though it is contained in a different folder on a different drive?
Not sure if I've explained that clearly enough!

Setting iTunes prefs -> Advanced simply sets the locaion of the iTunes Music/Media folder. It does not set the location of the iTunes folder, which the default location is \My Music\iTunes\. This contains the library files, which tells iTunes where/what everything is.
We have drive space for 'personal' use on the C Drive. This is where I keep my itunes folder,
Is this the \iTunes\ folder an in it is the iTunes library.itl file, iTunes music library.xml, iTunes media folder, Artwork folder, Previous iTunes libraries folder and a few other files?
If so, hold Shift and launch iTunes. Select *Choose library* and select the *iTunes library.itl* file in this folder.
iTunes will not create an iTunes folder in \My Music\.

How can I get permission to create a symbolic link?

I am trying to create a symbolic link from a program, but I keep getting:
A required privilege is not held by the client.
I am running the program from my account which is in the Administrators group, and otherwise has admin rights. However, if I login to the Administrator account the program runs fine, so I know the program code is correct.
I have checked the local security settings, and even added my account explicitly to the local security settings to create symbolic links, but that does not help. I have also turned of UAC, but that does not help.
What do I need to do on Windows 8.1 to be able to create a symbolic link from an account other than Administrator?

Where Files is the java.nio API. In fact it's a unit test fixture that tests to make sure my code handles symbolic links properly. The test fixture creates a temporary directory, for example
C:\Users\Eric\AppData\Local\Temp\testFolder-432432684744817467
and more files and folders below that. In one folder, it tries to make a symbolic link to another folder.
I tried what you said with Run As Administrator, in this case, I ran my Eclipse IDE as Administrator and the code works -- thanks for the tip :-)
However, in practice, I need this to work as part of automated unit test running as part of a Maven build, so is there some way to set things up that do not require "Run As Administrator"?
Now that I have one solution, I can probably figure out some hack, but I was hoping there would be some more simple straightforward way to do what I want.

Group Policy Logon Script to create folder based on username, run as admin

Hello,
I'm at a loss as to how to make this work. I wrote the following PowerShell script that will check to see if the currently logged in user has a folder on a share, and if not it will create the folder and set appropriate permissions. I want to
run it as a Group Policy Logon Script, however I need to run this script as an administrator because users don't have any write/create access at the folder level of the file share. The problem with that then becomes $ENV:Username resolves to the admin
account the script is running under.
Any ideas?

Thanks jrv. That is kind of what I thought but wasn't sure. I think I will attack this a different way and modify the script to run through all the AD accounts and check for folder existence and create if needed. Perhaps I'll play
with System Center Orchestrator and run it inside there.
These folders aren't being used for profile storage, and we already have folder redirection pointing to them, however I don't want a user to login to citrix and not have anywhere to save if they didn't have a folder to redirect to.
Folders are supposed to be created when the staff member/student AD account is created, but it doesn't always happen.

Automator: Create folder from filename

I am trying to use Automator to query a file in a foldr, then create a folder based off of the filename, then move the file into the newly created folder. I am not as savvy as I thought that I was when it comes to Automator. Even thinking that Automator might not be the correct tool for the job. Each file has a different name or this would be a lot easier. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can use a Run AppleScript action to do the work, and feed items to it by using a service workflow, an Ask for Finder Items action, etc - for example:
1) Service receives selected files or folders in Finder
2) Get Folder Contents
3) Run AppleScript

Error code 10 at create folder

i am developing a vi in which i have to create a folder in any drive(e.g D:\dataacquisition) than in data acquisition folder, i have to create date folder and name folder and then we need to create some files e.g patient's information, and like this different files in the name folder, i have shown this in attached vi, now the problem is this that when i run the vi for the first time when no folder has been made it runs ok with no error, but when i again run the vi with different patient name it shows Error code 10 at create folder, i know this error is because the same folder is already present, but the problem is this that when an error comes the new patient's folder is not created, i have tried several things but not able to avoid or remove this error, is there any way to remove this error or if there is any other option of creating folder in LabVIEW.
I am attaching the vi.

There is two ways you can do.
You can create the folder along with a time stamp including seconds so that your folders will be new always otherwise before creating the folder check whether it is already created or not. If already created skip the create folder function else create it.
Answer-Thankyou,for your suggestion, I tried Creating folder with timestamp including seconds, but it then shows error 1 which i think is formatting error, and yes the other option works well, by using the check if folder function vi works well.

I have also found 1 more other than check if folder exists by which error 10 is avoided but in that case name should be different, now what i want is when suppose i enter the same name in the suppose i want folder with name 'a' to be created and that folder is already present than what i am trying is that labview should ask weather you want to replace existing folder,or you want to delete,or you want to keep both files, delete and replace is easy to implement but although i am trying but if anyone knows the way that how we can keep both the files than that would be great help.
i am attaching the vi which is not complete yet, i am trying to implement some more extra points like keeping both the same files or if i want to replace.

KM How to Change Sandard Folder Symbols to Images

Hi
I try to change the stanadard folder symbols on a km repository directory to specific images or symbols. Is it possible to set up a folder layout that looks like the thumbnails layout. I changed the Resource Renderer Settings or try to add additional properties but it doesn't works.
Is there anybody with experience in layout design configuration

Just to place the name under the image you can write in the displayed properties of the collection renderer something like that:

However, to create a true thumbnails display you should advance copy ConsumerThumbnailExplorer and play with it a little to achieve your gole.
for example:
In the copy of ConsumerThumbnailAlignRenderer you can change Row Spacing and Column spacing. Also you can set Folders Selection and Links Selection to all, and in the copy of ConsumerThumbnailTaxonomyRenderer change Folders Selection and Links Selection and Files Selection to off that way you get a simple breadcrumb on top and a thumbnails display on the bottom that displays files folders and links all together.

I found the option I can sort it as ascending order, when I close this screen than it goes back to way it was,
is there a way to save it in ascending order all the folder screen, so when I open cost library , it stays in same order,
2nd question : we have approved column , when the person approved the cost , is there a way to keep that person the name,
right now when the next time some other users open that file that users name comes in the approved column,

To create workflow in SharePoint, I recommend to use SharePoint Designer to achieve this goal.

Can I create folder in my iPod

I have 30GB iPod and finding it difficult to manage music songs.
1.Can I create folders inside my iPod? If yes, how many levels?
2.Can I create Playlist inside playlist? I want to manage my songs in different levels.
Eg:
Created a Playlist : MyFavSongs
Added all music files to above playlist MyFavSongs
so the path in my iPod is:
Music->MyFavSongs-><List of all songs>
Can I create something of this path
Music -> HitEnglighSongs -> MyFavListOfSongs1-> <List Of Songs>
Music -> HitEnglighSongs -> MyFavListOfSongs2-> <List Of Songs>

You can create a Smart playlist to contain songs just as you would create folder.
Where the songs are maninained (folders) shoul be transparent/irrelevant to the user as long as you can view/listen/sort them.
If you want all songs of Genre Rock, add that as a criteria in the Smart playlist.
If you also want to include all Meat Puppets music, add that as a criteria.
And include only songs in these that are only 5 star rated.
And yes, you can include a "sub" playlist.
Make a new smart playlist and simply have the first criteria Playlist is the one created above.
Mkae the nxt criteria whatever you want.

Can I move the Pictures folder to a different internal drive?

I would like to move the Pictures folder that shows up in the Finder sidebar from my Macintosh HD (boot drive) to a separate internal drive (Media Drive) where I store all my media files. I want to do this so that when I want to save a photo from a web site or email I can click on it, select the Pictures folder, have it saved to the Pictures folder on my Media Drive rather than on the Macintosh HD (boot drive) where it currently resides. I have tried dragging and dropping the folder from the Macintosh HD (boot drive) to the Media Drive but it does not work. Ideas would be most welcome. Thanks

a question - perhaps it might be safer to create a symbolic link to the relocated folder on the external drive instead of an alias. Otherwise Unix based image editors like GIMP will not be able to see this new "Pictures" folder in the file chooser dialogue.
