Create horizontal master page?

How do I create a horizontal master page?
According to the Adobe documentation that I've found, the way to do this is in Document Setup. But I don't want the entire document to be horizontally aligned. I just want one page to be horizontally aligned. I thought the way to accomplish this would be to create a master page with a horizontal alignment. What is the easiest and best way to do that?

Are you preparing a file for print or presentation?
If it is print, I would keep the orientation of all pages the same, and rotate content for the horizontal page. Rotate the Spread View as necessary to edit content.
If it is for presentation, it depends what version of Indesign you are using.
-If it is CS5 or higher, then you can define multiple page sizes in one document
-If it is CS4 or lower and final product is a PDF, then I would keep the orientation of all pages the same, and rotate the horizonal page in Acrobat

  • How do I create a Master Page?

I'm creating a page layout document with each page containing one or two photos on the left side and a bulleted list for each photo on the right. The doc is 150 pages and I'd like to create two different master pages - a one-photo layout and a two-photo layout. I can't find how to create a master page.
I have added guide lines and then duplicate the page and change the photo and text, but I'd love to create a set of master pages. Seems like a good skill to have. Thanks for any help.

The Pages09_UserGuide.pdf does a poor job of explaining how to create a working template with master layouts.
For a start *Chapter 13 Designing Your Own Document Templates* doesn't acknowledge the difference between *Word Processing mode* and *Layout mode* with all instructions being only for Word Processing mode and even those are incomplete.
Pages in *Layout mode* does not have master pages it has what you might call an internal template, with the page layout being inserted from the Pages button on the toolbar or:
    +Menu > Insert > Pages > select from thumbnail+
This is like a page duplicator, with none of it being retrospective as far as I can see. Once you insert a page, changing the original Pages layout does not actually change any page based on it. To change an existing Page design you have to remember its name perfectly down to case sensitive and save a new version over the existing version or go to a completely separate menu item to delete and add designs.
You create the Page designs, I hesitate to call them masters, by laying out a sample page and with an object selected on that page:
    +Menu > Format > Advanced > Capture Pages… > Name the Page+
Despite the confusing plural in +Capture Pages…+ it only captures the one page with all other options greyed out.
Worse still it does not seem to retain any of the facing page information except for the header and footer, plunking down the page irregardless of whether it is left or right or part of a pair even though it lets you click +Facing Pages+ in the Inspector.
It is hard for me to imagine how they could have created a more muddled, confusing and incomplete arrangement for tasks that were well established on the Mac back in the early 80's when Apple started the DTP revolution 25 years ago.
I am repeating myself but it seems like a product designed by a committee that never uses it.

  • Powershell, design manager, uploading html file not creating associated master page file

I am uploading a xyz.html file through powershell for 2 site collections, when .html file is uploaded and published it automatically creates xyz.master file. It is working fine for not publishing sites collection only, for publishing site collection .html file
is uploaded successfully but it is not creating associated .master file. If I close powershell console and run again it works successfully.
another interesting thing I noticed that if I specify "spadmin" account which I used to install sharepoint as  site collection primary administrator, all works well, currently I am using "spsiteCollection" account for primary site collection
administrator and I am having above mentioned issue.
powershell script is also running with spadmin account.
I have ensured .html is checked in and publish properly, If I manually unpublish and publish .html file it creates .mater file. What could be the issue?

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you have an issue about upload html file to master page gallery.
I have used the PowerShell contains in the codeplex to upload the files to master page gallery, it works without any issue.
    https://uploadmasterpages.codeplex.com/
You can check your PowerShell with this article, or use this bat file to upload directly to check whether it works.

  • Help!! Need to create Left Master Page in FM 8

    Howdy--
I'm using Frame 8 after a bit of a break from FM. The last version I used was 7.2 and I don't seem to remember it being so hard to create a left master page. When I go to do it in FM8, it tells me that Left is reserved. OK, but where does it live--can't find that neither.
Would appreciate some help and many thanks,
    Marie

    Hi Marie
I'm not Van, but can answer those questions. :-)
To change the size of the text flow box (text frame, by the way), Ctrl-click on the frame border in the master page, then select Format > Customise Layout > Customise Text Frame. Or you can Ctrl-click and drag the borders, if you don't care about precise measurements. I'm using FM7, so FM8 may be different - but I hope not.
Cross-references aren't the friendliest. See the online help topic "Creating cross-reference formats". You need a definition that's something like:
See Figure <$paranumonly> for more info.
If you get stuck on cross-refs, it's prob a good idea to start a new forum topic about that.
    Cheers, Rebecca

  • How do I create a master page when using Project7 templates?

    Hi,
I am using P7 templates to easily create a nice website. However, I would like to create for example the main menu only once and have it re-used on every page or at least every page I want to. I think this is a called a masterpage (?) where you can tag parts to be re-used on other pages.
Can somebody please tell me where I can find support, examples, tutorials on this? Or can somebody tell me how to do this in a P7 template?
    Thanks in advance!!

  • Create a custom Master Page in SharePoint Foundation 2013

    Hi,
I am new to SharePoint foundation.
I am trying to create a custom master page and save it as template, so that i can use it for all other sub sites. But i don't know where to start. Also i tries searching in Google, i got results for share point and not for share point foundation.
So, Please give me a step by step procedure or a link to step by step procedure on how to create a master page, save it as template and use it for a sub site.
    Thanks in advance,
    Gowtham R

Few points to note related to SharePoint Master page:
You don't need to create master page template. If you deploy your master page in site collection level you can reuse the same master page in subsites without copying again and again, rather just by referencing
You have not mentioned how you are going to deploy your master page. If you have any Visual Studio (VS) solution already, try to add your  master page in the VS solution and deploy your master page (and other branding components) as SharePoint WSP
    solution.
Deploying master page will not activate the master page, you need to use some kind of 'Web Level Feature' to activate your branding - the feature will basically set the master page property of SharePoint site to your custom master page.
Please follow the links below for steps by steps instructions (and you will find many just by googling 'sharepoint master page visual studio'):

  • How do I create an underlying master page for my master pages (without messing them up)?

I created a Muse site long ago, and wanted to fix my SEO easily overall by better analytics among other things.
Perhaps I am doing this the wrong way but I was thinking I could create a master page that I could just drop the html I needed into, and thus not fuss too much with my other pages. The problem is I already have master pages that my site is based on (before you could do this), and it would be much easier to have those master pages stem from one source (a Master master page?).
Everytime I try to do this it changes my current master and final pages. Anyway I can create and invisible master so this doesn't happen?
    What should I do instead?
    THANK YOU.
    William

    Thanks,
Your intructions were my plan untill I realized that in doing so, it changed the backgrounds etc of my current masterpages. I realize that this is a lack of planning due to my very rusty design principles, and something I wouldn't have done in my day job if the features had been in place. (so thank you for the new features!)
While I realize I could probably fix this by recreating the site with a uniform underlying Primary Master Page feeding into my Secondary Master Pages, I was trying to create a master page that in effect wouldn't change a thing in the other subservient masterpages (thus allowing me freedom to create groups of pages with common analytics or any other types of code).
Simply when I take your suggestion, things change... can I do this without making things change?
Not sure if this makes sense. I am trying to avoid coding or a overhaul b/c of time constraints.

  • Trouble in finding enough master pages for the creation of books, and to keep the master pages I create

I am frustrating the the small number of master pages available to create books in Aperture; it is much smaller than in iPhoto. Is it possible to access more master pages?
I created new master pages, but I can use them only for the book into which I created them. How can I keep them for all my projects? Many thanks in advance.

My Firefox remembers history from over a year ago, and unless you are using a setting or external tool to clear it, or load huge numbers of pages/download huge numbers of files, Firefox should pretty easily remember links you've accessed in recent months.
To see what Firefox has computed as the number of URLs to remember, you can check here:
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste '''.hist''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Look for '''places.history.expiration.transient_current_max_pages'''
Mine's set to 104858. I don't know how that was determined.

  • Creating Master page for publishing site

    Hi,
I am trying to create a master page for publishing site. I have downloaded the "StarterBranding - V1.3" from codeplex, and used the "Starter Publishing". Currently it is not showing logo, search box, top navigation, breadcrumbs.
I have an existing master page which has lot of tags, and I am not sure what they represent. The below code is after the script manager tag in the body section:

Are the above tags required in Master page? what is the use of it? I have more tags and will add after knowing the use of it in future threads.
    Thanks

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to know about the each tags useful in master page.
In SharePoint 2013 master page, there are some common tags like body tag, head tag and meta tag and some style CSS div tags. For the useful of these tags, I suggest you can refer the articles below:
Understanding HTML master pages in SharePoint 2013
In your custom master page, it will have some custom css tags depend on the display style but it is no required for master pages, if you want to know about what tags is required in master page, you can compare the custom master page with the  OOTB master
    page.

  • Using Adobe Muse to create master pages

    Hi,
Is it possible to use Adobe Muse to create master pages for Sharepoint 2013?
The Muse product creates the Javascript, css and html files, with the images etc.
The Muse product looks ideal to create the master pages with no coding required.
    Nick

For SharePoint 2013, yes you could absolutely use this tool to create your HTML (this post is in the 2010 forum, so just making sure).  In SP 2013 you can use the new Design Manager to upload HTML which then gets converted to a .NET Master Page.
So long as Muse turns out valid HTML, you should not have an issue.

  • Created a New Master Page

I have created a new Master Page for my Sharepoint Online site and the design works great, Except when I try to add a new app.
When I go to Site Contents > Add an app and do a search for eg a list it comes up blank, but when I do back to default master page they all appear perfectly. Is there something that I need to put into the new Master Page to allow for these Apps to appear?
I followed this guide to create the Master Page
    http://www.microsofttechnology.net/2013/09/branding-sharepoint-2013-online-custom_19.html
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks

Yes Since you have changed the master page those options would not be available. If you try this on a different site collection where you haven't set the master page it would work perfectly fine. Even if you have set a master page on a site and you create
a sub site under that site collection then it wont be available to you because it comes with the default master page templates. The only way to achieve this is by resetting the default master page( or selecting the other template available
in change the look of website option) or by hiring a SharePoint developer who can create a similar site content page and options of lists and libraries for you or inherit it from the master page code.
If you find this information helpful then please propose this as an answer and vote.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
The Navigation control can be added into your HTML page in the Snippet Gallery:
The two links below about how to create HTML master page and adding snippets needed into it for your reference:

  • Dynamic Master Page. Hide second master page if items don't overflow on it.

    Hi all,
I have a custom PO form which requires an extra header on the first page but not on the subsequent pages. I created a master page on which the items can overflow.
The issue is that the second master page shows irregardless of whether the items overflow or not.
Is there a way to hide that second master page?
    Thanks,
    Paul

    @ Pradeep Goli:
The items are grouped by an attribute and each have subtotals, so it is rather difficult to predict when page will overflow.
    @Otto Gold :
I do have an awkward structure as I couldn't get my deep tables to show as I wanted so I converted the top header of the items into a header.
Here is how it looks like at the moment.
    -(Master_Pages)
    --PAGE1
    ---Page_Header_1
    ---Page_Header_2
    ---Page_Header_3
    ---Body
I need to hide the second header on followup pages.
    I tried several things:
    - dynamically re-size content area for followup pages (using only PAGE1). Not possible
    - create a second page, PAGE2 with my desired headers (Page_Header_1, Page_Header_3).  Hard to predict at runtime when overflow will occur
    - I can move the data from Page_Header_3 to the body if I can make it show at the top of every page. Working on this at the moment. Easiest, but I can't get it to work
The body data with the items looks like this:
    <items_subform>
    -<items_TABLE>
    --<items_BODY>
    ---<items_data_HEADER>
    ---<items_data_BODY>
    ---<items_data_FOOTER>
    --<items_FOOTER>

  • Custom Master Page issue with Document Set Libraries

Details: Publishing site using SharePoint 2013.  The SharePoint is on my company's servers.
Have a custom Master page that has a navigation banner (built with HTML/CSS/javascript).  The site has it applied successfully to the "Site Master Page" but when I also apply it to the "System Master Page", the libraries that have
Document Set type content do not show the files within.   We'd like to be successful in applying to the "System Master Page" as that allows the banner to show when an actual library is accessed.    Any suggestions, please?

Thanks. I've been experimenting with this for a few days now, and there's lots I don't understand about why and such, but your process above works. That's a big load off me right now and I really appreciate it. I'm going to be able to survive the initial
roll-out and implementation of the new site. Going forward, I've got lots to learn and find out, I've already heard that there's a desire to really redesign the master page for the site and subsites, way beyond the little CSS customization I did. Fun.
If you've got a little time though, perhaps you can provide some explanation. If not, no problem.
On step 6, when I do as you detail, click the System Master Page and reset all the subsites, it seems to work fine with my custom master page. If I do that with the Site Master Page settings, my custom page causes the redirect issue in the subsites again.
This is whether I do the Site Master Page by itself, or in conjunction with the System Master Page settings. If I revert back to the Seattle master page in the Site Master Page settings and my custom pate in the System Master Page, the issue goes away again.
It is completely messing with my head, trying to figure out why that would be, and this is all beside trying to figure out why adding the one little CSS reference to the Seattle master to create my master page breaks things (sometimes!).
Just fyi, what I've ended up with for now is pulling my custom master page out of the system and using the Alternate CSS URL to add my custom CSS to the Seattle master page on the sites. As I thought about all this, I decided I didn't want to leave the breakable
custom page out there for some unsuspecting site manager to accidentally pick and get everyone screaming about the broken sites.
    Thanks again,
    Steven
