Create image of Pro Logic 9 installer disc

Have been getting an 'Installation failed' message when trying to install Logic Pro 9 in my Mac Pro 1.1. As it may be the installer disc that's damaged I've tried to create a new image from the installer DVD using Mac's Disc Utility but so far have been denied permission. The 'Sharing & Permissions' section in the 'get info' window is greyed out even though it is unlocked and I've selected 'read only' in new image prompt. Anything else I can try? Thanks for any input!

Thanks for the link... learned a few things I hadn't been aware of.
I still don't know why I was having the permission problems but as it turned out, it was a faulty Installer disc. I thought I'd try using Carbon Copy Cloner to create an image but it flagged up a fault in one sector of the disc - including the file name so I'll need to get a replacement disc as you suggested.
As an aside... I read quite a few posts on failed Logic installation attempts and what the problem might be but the CCC workaround quickly confirmed what the problem was in my case... a useful tool to elliminate where the problem was.
Thanks for your suggestions

  • Will a Macbook pro early 2011 installation disc work on a 2007 or 2008 Macbook pro 15

My collegue's 2007 or 2008 Macbook pro 15 inch keeps getting stuck on the apple load up screen everytime he hits the power button. He doesnt know what version it is and I forgot to write down the model number of it(Ill update May 16 at 10am PST). I tried safe mode, it worked but after the loading bar gets close to 1/2 it freezes up. He can not find his installation disc that came with the computer. I have mine but its for Model # A1278 I think its snow leopard. Will the installation disc and application disc run successfully on my collegue's 2007 or 2008 Macbook pro?
I apologize if there's a similar thread out there, I couldnt find one. -

    No it will not.
Machine specific gray/back disks are for one model of Mac only as they only contain hardware drivers for that model, not previous ones.
The 10.6.3 white Snow Leopard retail disk will work and it's available from Apple online for a small charge.

This is indicative of a problem with the boot drive and the file structure retaining data on the drive.
The progress bar progressing and stopping means the fsck drive repair is failing, likley the drive incurred head shock damage at that point.
The boot drive itself is likely fine and the problem can be resolved but the disks are going to be required if it's running Snow Leopard.
First get the disks, then attempt Disk Utility > Repair Disk and check the SMART status if the drive is still good.
If there is no backup of data, get that off the machine using a external boot drive.
To fix that problem of a bad sectors, unfortutly the entire drive will need to be Zero Erased (security option > zero all data) using Disk Uility while c or option/alt key booted from the 10.6 disks (using a wired or built in keyboard), it's the only way.
This means all programs, files (remaining) and OS X will be removed in the process. You could replace the drive also.

  • MacBook Pro OS X installation discs

Bought a used 2010 MacBook Pro, got the OS X 10.6 install disc 1 but not disc 2.  Had to reinstall OS and now don't have disc 2.  Can it be replaced?

Ah a brody I didn't know the computer came with 2 installation discs, this is the first computer I ever purchased used and my other laptop was Mac OS 9 so it's been a long time since I purchased at all.  The first thing I did was contact the seller and I got no reply.
Does anyone know who to contact at Apple, can I talk to the support people without paying a fee or is going to an Apple store my best bet?
Also what software is actually on disc 2?  The only software I really notice is missing is iphoto, which I can purchase at the app store for $15.00.
If someone could just tell me what's on Disc 2 I might be able to get on with my life

All op needs to do is make a bootable USB thumb drive.
    on mac http://blog.nightlionsecurity.com/guides/2011/07/burn-iso-to-bootable-usb-flash- drive-in-mac-osx-terminal-via-command-line-diskutil/
on windows its easier you can just download the microsoft iso tool or use pendrive linux to create the bootable usb from the iso (downloaded from msdnaa)
Your comment is uncalled for. And you give the wrong info on installiing Win 7 on a Macbook Pro in a Boot Camp Partition.
It can only be installed from a DVD drive installed internally in the system. Apple has limited the installation of Windows 7 from only that drive. Can't install from USB thumb or DVD drive connected by USB port.
    Thanks, BUT.

  • How to redownload final cut pro on different computer without installation disc?

I purchased a laptop that has final cut pro on it but it didnt come with an installation disc or anything. I need to put my final cut pro on a different computer...What can I do?

Final Cut Pro X is an app from the Mac App Store. There is no installation disc.  Since you said it came pre-installed on your computer, I'm assuming that means you aren't able to go to the Purchased tab of the Mac App Store on a different computer to redownload it. Therefore, I would suggest using an external hard drive or FireWire or thunderbolt or USB connects, etc. to transfer the application between computers along with all the library files from the system library library and 'hidden library'

I want to install my original SnowLeopard (from the installation disc) to a partition I created in the now upgraded Mavericks OSX, How can I install it on the new partition?

    That's easy.
    2 methods:
    1. Change the Startup Disk in System Preferences, then restart:
    2. Hold down the "Option" key while starting or restarting the Mac. Then chosse the partition that you want to startup from.
The 1st mehtod is the quickest, because you don't have the additional step of choosing the drive. Plus, whatever you have selected in System Preferences becomes the default startup drive.

  • How to clear macbook pro without installation disc

Recently purchased new Macbook.  I now need to delete all content on old Macbook Pro, before selling for parts.  I cannot find the original installation disc.  How do I reset to manufacturers settings and delete all personal content?
    OS X 10.6.8

You could connect the old MBP to the new one in target disk mode. That will mount the old drive on the desktop of the new computer. You can then erase the drive using Disk Utility. Applications / Utilities / Disk Utility.
TDM requires the computers to be connected. So you will need an appropriate cable and even an adapter. Which ones will depend on the ports on the computers. The following web page gives the basic info. You can google for other pages for more instructions.
OS X Mavericks: Transfer files between two computers using target disk mode
I must point out that you can buy a copy of OS 10.6 DVD for $20. Which might be less than the cost of the cables, and who ever buys your Mac would appreciate the OS dvd.

  • The installer disc could not be found?  MacBook Pro - BootCamp

I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro running OS X Lion 10.7.4.  I receive the "installer disc could not be found" error in my Boot Camp Assistant (ver. 4.0.3) after I have selected the "Download the latest Windows support software from Apple" and "Install Windows 7" tasks, and selected the "Burn a copy to CD or DVD" option in the process of installing Windows on my Mac.  Everything goes smoothly, including the burning onto a disc apparently, until I get to the part where I am told to select the amount of space to partition and press the "Install" button below with the disc in.  I do this, but after a minute of nothing happening once I've pressed "Install", I receive the "installer disc could not be found" error.  I have no idea what to do, still being somewhat new to my MacBook Pro, as well as having followed all the of the instructions.  Help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks in advance!
Also, I've already tried burning at the slowest speed (2x) and have tried both CDs and DVDs.

It's not so much the Windows OS as it is what Mac OS your using to in stall Windows on.
As of Lion and Mountain Lion (10.7 and 10.8) you can only use Windows 7 (until Windows 8 comes out and Apple updates the Boot Camp drivers for it) because Boot Camp only has drivers for W7 and is not backward compatible to XP.
W7 and XP is kinda like OS-9 and OS-10, two major differences.
Boot Camp is just a series of Windows drivers Apple makes for compatibilities reasons for the hardware Apple uses.
Basically if your computer came with 10.7 installed _brand new_ your stuck with W7 and BCamp v4.0. If you have any other previous Apple OS then you can use the v3.0 version of Boot Camp and W-XP.
Depending on when the computer was made it may be able to use XP, say, if you bought a computer a week after Lion came out but they hadn't upgraded the computer hardware yet you can usually use the previous MacOS and Windows version if compatible. So you will still have the "old" hardware. Any new Mac OS that comes out will be installed on any computers sold after that time.
Also, some people have had some success installing XP on newer machines if you do a Yahoo/Google search on the internet, depending on what machine you have you. It may take quite a bit of work tho. if you really need XP still, Windows 7 Pro does have an XP emulator as part of it (similar to Rosetta for OS9?)
    Hope this helps....

Can I install the latest version 10.8.4 in 1,1 model?
If it is possible, what I have to do to get it done? And the price?

MacBookPro1,1 can only run Mac OS X 10.6.8, as it has got a 32-bit processor.
If you order replacement DVDs, Apple will send you DVDs with the original Mac OS X version that came with your Mac, in this case, Mac OS X 10.4.5.
If you decide to get replacement DVDs, Apple will only charge you for the delivery

  • How to create an updated installation disc?

    + Hello everyone,
I will like to know how can I create an updated driver + application installation disc?

My card is a Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium and running Vista x86.

I don't know if JComboBox will work. I need to edit the first line, and, as I'm typing, a query like "select Name from Owners where Name like ' "+OwnerName.getText+"%'
The results of this query should appear in a drop down in the same Combo that I'm editting... Just like the Address field of the browser... got it?

  • Can I use the installation disc from a 15"macbook pro to restore my 17" since I can't find the discs

can I use the installation disc from a 15"macbook pro to restore my 17" since I can't find the discs

There's nothing at the Apple Store. Whatever you need you will have to get elsewhere. You can download Mountain Lion if you have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and an Apple ID. See:
Upgrading to Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will receive physical media - DVD - by mail.
Third-party sources for Snow Leopard are:
    Snow Leopard from Amazon.com
    Snow Leopard from eBay
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.
Before upgrading check that you computer meets the minimum requirements:
    Snow Leopard General requirements
      1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
      2. 1GB of memory
      3. 5GB of available disk space
      4. DVD drive for installation
      5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may
          apply.
      6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
First, you need to upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 as stated above.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
Before upgrading check that you computer meets the minimum requirements:
    Lion System Requirements
      1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or
          Xeon processor
      2. 2GB of memory
      3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
      4. 7GB of available space
      5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
Be sure your computer meets the minimum requirements:
Apple - OS X Mountain Lion - Read the technical specifications.
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
      1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
      2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
      3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
      4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
      5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
      6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
      7. Xserve (Early 2009)
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps - App compatibility and feature support for OS X & iOS.
Am I eligible for the free upgrade?
See Apple - Free OS X Mountain Lion upgrade Program.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Apple - Upgrade your Mac to OS X Mountain Lion.
