Create in iWeb, edit in another app?

I posted this in a few days ago with no response - hoping for a few bites this time!
I produced a site with iWeb, but when I import and open the site in GoLive, the Layout view of each page is a mess! Nothing like what the browser displays (although the Preview view looks correct), and I can make neither heads nor tails of it. Can anyone shed light on this? (I am not a particularly experienced GoLive user - obviously, or I would have written the site with that instead of iWeb's templates... ).
I'm wondering if any of you who use GoLive or Dreamweaver have played with iWeb, and opened up a site made in iWeb in one of those programs, and either seen what you expected to see in Layout, or are seeing what I am, and... how to use it.
Thanks in advance.

Alan, thanks for the reply - I am using GoLive CS, aka 7.0.2.
When imported into GoLive, the Layout view is pretty mangled, with some very odd gold squares (with black borders and four black dots around the border) coming down from the top of page in two vertical lines. Very weird. The Nav bar which is supposed to be at the top of the page, is positioned correctly, along with heading text and footer object (the "Made on a Mac" logo which is also a hyperlink). But all else (the three images I added plus a text box (which iWeb turned into a PNG because I styled the text) are in strange locations. When I select the Preview tab, it all looks correct, but since the Layout view is bizarre, I won't be able to effectively edit it.
Do you think that GoLive CS2 (8.0) will be better at handling CSS? Not sure I want to try to dive into yet another program (Dreamweaver)!
Thanks.

  • How to connect to Oracle 8i Personal Edition from another app like TOAD?

I downloaded Oracle 8.1.7 Personal Edition; and the download went like a breeze.
I installed Oracle and can connect to the database using SQL*Plus without specifying Host Name.
I am very much familiar with TOAD (Tool for Oracle Application Developer). But I am unable to connect to Oracle 8.1.7 Personal Edition database from TOAD. I get a ORA-12541: TNS:no listener error when I give the global database name as the database name.
Can anybody help me? Your help will be appreciated very much.

SQL*PLus does not use the listener to connect to Oracle8i Personal Edition. That is why you are able to connect with SQL*Plus and not TOAD when the listener is not started.

  • Editing a site created with Iweb - with another program

    Hello,
I built a website for a friend and he wants to be able to make small changes on it from time to time and I downloaded a WYSIWYG editor and none of them are compatible with sites created with Iweb...
Does anyone have any suggestions? He runs a windows machine.
    Thank you so much!!!

Well, not really. A lot of people have their sites built for them and then, with a little guidance, can change out photos, or do a little editing here and there. So your idea certainly has merit.
The problem is, iWeb is a unique html generator. It stores everything you create in the application in a single file, (Domain.sites2), and only the application itself can open this file for editing. iWeb doesn't even create the html until you publish the site, either to a folder or to an Apple server. iWeb also changes many things into .png files--including text--believe it or not, in a well intentioned effort to cross platform better with other browser applications. So even simple text editors, which would normally be fine for changing small things in most websites, will struggle.
Your idea was a good one; it is iWeb that isn't a good candidate for it.
You must therefore now convince this person to become an Apnewbie, and buy a Mac!

Hi Larry, no experience with iWeb, (which is ending soon), but what kind of files & folders does it make locally?
You need a Wb Hosting service & an ftp client, if you need more info reply with that & what kind of files/folders it made.

  • Is it possible to upload web pages created in IWEB to another type of site?

I have tried to read through a lot of the posts on here, and always seem to get lost after a few. I am trying to post a website that I am creating using IWEB to the internet. THe catch is that my .Mac account has expired, so I wanted to find another way to get them online. I am a high school teacher and trying to make a website for my classes. If anyone has any other ideas or information please let me know. I greatly appreciate all your time.

Click here for options, or if your ISP allows it, place the published files in the folder /Library/WebServer/Documents/ of your hard disk and start web sharing from the Sharing pane of System Preferences.

    Hi gadi b,
It sounds like you may want to create a form field in your PDF file, which your sales personnel can paste text into. You can use either Acrobat or Adobe FormsCentral to create PDF forms. For instructions, see FormsCentral Help | Create a form or Acrobat Help | Forms.

  • Stop front end editing of web apps from creating duplicates

Welcome to my issue of the month haha.. Can't wait to be the person solving them for other partners for once.
Anyway! The issue that we're coming up with today is when a customer edits a web app they've submitted previously, instead of editing it, it is creating a duplicate web app and I'm certain this wasn't happening yesterday.
In the edit template we have placed a copy of the "submit a web app form" and this had seemed to be working fine until now.
The only change I can think of is that I've used javascript to auto generate the ItemName, we have hidden the ItemName so it can't be changed accidently though.
    I have tried:
With and without the ItemName automater javascript.
Removing everything and replacing the form on a blank page.
Are we using the wrong form? Any ideas or solutions?

I had a similar problem The way I solved it was to enter value="{tag_field}" on each input. Then the existing data comes up, and they edit it, and submit it. It stopped the duplicates. I'm not sure why, or even if it was exactly that which stopped the duplicates.

  • Can I update a blog created in iWeb from another computer?

    Hello Forum,
While I am away from my office base, I would like to update my blog (created using iWeb) from another computer. I have a dotmac account.
I thought doing this should pose no problems, but I simply can't figure it out.....
Hope someone can help me out on this one.
    Many thanks in advance,
    Greg

When you go to .mac and log in, you should see stories there regarding the features of .mac. One of the recent ones (should still be on the front page) is Tech note: Using iWeb on more than one Mac
    Underneath this header, you'll find
"All you need to do is quit iWeb (if it’s open), locate the domain.sites file (Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites), and move it to wherever you’re going to use it. Then double-click the file in its new location. iWeb will launch, and you’re done. From then on, iWeb will automatically save your work in the new location, and you’ll be able to publish your site from any Mac that has access to it.
So, if your domain.sites is small enough to fit on your iDisk, you could keep a copy there and use it from any computer that has iWeb 1.1 or later installed to update your blog.

  • Recommendations for using iWeb (or another app) for pictures & movies

I created an iWeb site for our family to see pictures and videos of family as well as post a blog on what is new. I love the templates and layout of iWeb, however hosting it with MobileMe makes it impossibly slow to download for users with Internet Explorer.
Any recommendations on how a faster host site or all together a better program outside of iWeb?

That's great that you downloaded Firefox and the site loads OK for you. Unfortunately IE users still experience the same thing. You can not expect others to download additional applications in order for them to properly view your content. Look at it this way: if an IE user has been using IE without problems on any other site they visit, then they come across your site and it's displayed improperly, do you really think they'll abandon the application that they've been using up until now just because your site is improperly displayed and you are asking them to download an alternative application to view your site the way it should be displayed? Of course you did because it was your site and you're bias, but do you expect others to simply because it's your site?!?
IE 8 is one of the latest and most secure browsers currently available and approximately %50 of all internet users use IE. You should develop for multiple users across various platforms. The best method to accomplish that is to learn the coding that browsers are rendering (html, css, javascript, etc.) and optimize your code to support multiple variables including browsers, OS, screen size, etc. If you ignore your users then they will most likely ignore you!

  • How do i transfer my website created on iWeb to another computer (also a macboook pro)

how do I transfer a website created on iweb from one macbook pro to another

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
Once you get the domain.sites file copied from your old Mac to the User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder on your new Mac follow this:
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • How many website can I create with iWeb?

How many different webpages can I create with iWeb? I just created a site to show friends a slide show from a recent trip, but I need to create another webpage that will have video on it. It would be a totally different subject matter. I do have a .MAC account and not sure if I need to do anything with that so I can have more webpages.
I guess what I am saying is that I am going to need different URL's for the webpages I am going to need to create and want to know how many you can have or create using iWeb.

You can have multiple websites, each with multiple pages depending on the need. To make managing multiple sites easier, take a look at iWebSites. The limiting factor, as was pointed out, is the available space on your iDisk. I use iWebSites to manage multiple sites.. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process.
This lets me edit several sites and only republish the one I want.

  • HELP! Can I view a site I created with iWeb using a personal domain?

Sorry in advance if this question has already been addressed. I too am sort of a newbie to iWeb. I just purchased a domain name through Google Apps. I would like to create my website through iWeb using the domain name ("www.youngvoters08.com") that I already purchased through Google Apps.
At this point, I'm incredibly confused. Is it possible to type in my domain URL (that I purchased through Google Apps) and have my iWeb website come up? I set up my personal domain through .Mac and I even tried publishing its contents to a folder (that was even more confusing). The personal domain option says it will take up to 48 hours to link to my domain.
All I want for Christmas is to be able to type in "www.youngvoters08.com" and be directed to the site I created on iWeb (as opposed to creating my site through Google Apps). Is this at all possible? And does it require me to be patient for 48 hours?
I'm afraid that the .Mac personal domain option means that I have to have already created a website with another service provider, and it doesn't mean that the personal domain I already purchased ("www.youngvoters08.com") will take me to the website I created through iWeb. I'm also weary that I wasted $10.00 by buying a personal domain through Google Apps, especially if I cannot create the contents of my website through iWeb.
Did that make any sense at all??? (Sorry for the confusion and redundancy:)

If you have both sites on one domain file - that is they both load into iWeb at once - click on the name of site 2 in the sidebar and drag it to the top of the list so that it is now in the #1 position. Now do a "Publish all to .Mac".
Your domain name URL is being directed to the index.html file in the Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites folder. This file opens the site that is at the top of the list in iWeb or, if you are publishing your sites individually, the last site that you uploaded.

  • Some videos are semi-missing - they do not show up in File Manager apps or another app

I have what I will call three FILER apps: File Browser, Air Browser and File Commander.  I also have MovieSRTPlayer.  Those apps appear to not register the presence of some video files that I have definitely copied to my PB.  The MovieSRTPlayer will overlay a .srt file's text over a video allowing the pb to show subtitles.  It works as long as it can find the video and srt files.
I am definitely transferring a series of video files to the pb's video folder.  I am also transferring a companion file to that folder.  The companion file is a subtitle file in the form of an .SRT file.
THREE file manager type apps do NOT show those files as present in the video folder.  The Video app itself does show and play those video files.
I have copied the files using both wifi-sharing and when they did not show up that way, I copied them using the usb cable to the pb's Z: drive and the video folder.
As stated the dam! files play in the video app.  But they do not appear in the various filer apps.  And they also do not show in another app, one that will display the subtitle (.srt file) file overlaying the video.  In all instances it is as if the pb does not register the presence of those files on the pb.
Now, what is interesting is that when this first cropped up, 7 files were missing - just a mix of video (no .srt files involved).  That is they showed in the video app and played but the filer programs did not show them.  I managed last night and this morning to get 7 of those to finally show by copying/moving/deleting and recopying.  But now I'm running into this brick wall again.  I have repeatedly copied two video (avi files) and their companion .srt files to the video folder.  They are in that folder (I've looked using usb and wifi-sharing) and they play in the PB's video app.  They are most certainly on my pb.
Oh, and yes, I've rebooted a number of times.
    Ideas?

I have what I call 3 file manager apps.  File Browser, Air Browser and File Commander (the older free version).
They all show or don't show the same thing.  So files are missing.  And SIZE is not the sole determining factor.  When I was testing MovieSRT and "lost" some files I copied and renamed avi and .srt files.  So there are two extra .srt files in the Video folder.  But while they are 32kb (kilobytes) and 58kb respectively, they do NOT show up in the File managers.  The other two identical files with the names matching the .avi files do show up.  The one very large mp4 (2gb) does not show up.  A subfolder I created just as a test does not show up.  But the large mp4 and subfolder were showing up while I was actively copying the 2gb file - they would show up as the file was being copied - the filemanagers showed the file getting larger and larger and while doing so the "missing" subfolder also kept showing up.  Then once the large file was completely copied, both it and the subfolder "disappeared" - again, the large mp4 does show in the Video app and it plays.
My persistence probably is based on the fact I was a computer programmer many eons ago!  Also, I was trying to get YOUR app to work and the avi files were not showing up in your listing but they were showing and playing in Video app (but no subtitles).  Finally, after copying/moving/re-copying over and over including moving and copying to the PB's Print folder (just since it was empty) and copying it back to the video folder (now 2 copies), the files would finally show up.  Peculiar - yup!
Oh, one other thing - the 3 file managers all show what I will call the virtual Playbook-Demo video in their listings - your app does NOT show it.  Obviously, it is not located in the Video Folder but somewhere in the bowels of the PB.  So, the filemanagers  are relying on some "file structure" that is not fully correct.  But your app does not appear to show it.
