Create Long Text
Do I need to call CREATE_TEXT if the Long Text does not exist or does EDIT_TEXT implicitly creates the Long Text?
Should I first Read and if sy-subrc NE 0, then call CREATE_TEXT or what?
So you need to call EDIT_TEXT (this fm should save the text by itself) in both situation:
- If the text exist you should read it by FM READ_TEXT and then call EDIT_TEXT (with data from READ_TEXT) and DISPLAY equal to X
- if the text doesn't exit you need to call EDIT_TEXT only, but you need to fill header data (HEADER) by your self

Create long text for network activity
Hello,
I'll create a long text for a network activity, but I found no BAPI for that.
When I create long text for an order activity I use the BAPI BAPI_ALM_ORDER_MAINTAIN. There it is possible to specifiy the long text lines.
In the BAPI BAPI_NETWORK_MAINTAIN there ist no table for specifying long text.

I'll tried this too. My problem was, if I add long text to a existing network activity, everything works well. But in my programm I create a new network plan with one network activity (0010). After commit I become the correct network plan number. Then I try to add long text to the network activity. I get correct return codes but if I look in the transcation CJ20N I could not see some text. If I use the READ_TEXT function with the key I insert the text, I see the text, but not with the transaction CJ20N.
I compared the key I used in my program with the key if I insert text with transaction CJ20N. I could'nt found some differences.

Create Long Text in MM01 for material
Hi,
I'm trying to create long text in MM01. After entering industry sector and material type and also the necessary views, i hit EDIT --> Long Text , the create text option is greyed out (inactive)..
How can i make this work ? Or is there any other field where i can use long text ?
thank you..Our client's material master data for material text is longer than 40 characters.. and it's impossible for them to reduce this to 40 charac.
So i need to find another field which they can use..
I wonder if i use po text, can i use it for developed reports, in search helps .. etc.. I'm not sure..

Operation Long text creation problem in IW32
Hi experts,
I have a requirement of showing a checklist pop up for all the new external operations in creating a MPA work order(IW32). And when the user answers the questions on the checklist, I have to copy all the questions and answers into the long text of the corresponding operation.
The problem here is,
for a case when the long text is not yet created for a new line item, when the pop up is shown and answers are filled, I am creating a new standard text using SVE_TEXT(setting the insert paramter 'X'), but the standard text is getting created in the database i.e a record is getting created in STXH with the text id, text name, text object of the operation. But when I go to IW32 and see the operation line it shows the create long text icon which says that the text is not created at all.
In a case where the long text is already created for the operation, and then the pop up is shown with the questions and answers are filled, the questions and answers are copied into the operation long text which is already created. So this works fine.
If any pointers regarding this please let me know.

Try passing SAVEMODE_DIRECT = 'X' and check..
also check if the text exists using the function module READ_TEXT once you do the SAVE_TEXT..

I am trying to create Task List Operation Long text using the function module ..
SAVE_TEXT .I am passing the following keys

But the long texts are not getting updated in the Task lists operations .
Can anyone please suggest whether SAVE_TEXT will work for Operation long Texts or not Are we missing something

in the transaction QA11 , enter any new inspection lot number and press enter , in this next screen (after pressing enter) in usage decision sub screen , create long text for UD icon is there in that we can enter long text(any number of characters ) through manually for single inspection lot but i want to enter long text for UD through BDC for more than one inspection lot automatically

How to activate Long Text of Order Header in IW31/32
Hi Expert,
I have one reqm. like want to upload Long Text in Order Header.
I have used FM 'Create_Text', its working f9 i.e. creating Long Text for Order Header but not displaying it
in IW32/33 transaction. Entry for Long Text is available in Table STXL and STXH.
Please advice me how to activate that Header Long Text which I uploaded earlier.

Long text indicator against Notification task & SubOrder creation
Hi all,
We are using BAPI_ALM_NOTIF_ADD to create long texts against the notification tasks. Though the long texts are created and can be viewed through IW22, the long text indicator in QMSM table is not set and hence when I display the notification through IW23 and navigate to the tasks, the long text available icon is not displayed. I tried to use CREATE_TEXT and SAVE_TEXT as well. Somehow the long text indicator doesn't get set. Do I need to explicitly set this indicator after the BAPI call? Please provide your valuable inputs.
Also, I have one more issue. Is there a way of creating Sub Order against the PM order through a BAPI? We have a requirement to create a Sub Order against the superior PM order through transaction IW36. Could you please suggest if any of you have come across any BAPI that supports this requirement?

Cause:
As the create_text or save_text does creation of text at data base level and does not pass through all the screens of the particular transaction, so the text editor icon is not enabled [like in tcode IW23 (IW33) Notification display text editor, tables holding damage text and cause text indicator qmfe-indtx & qmur-indtx I ]
Solution:
Read existing text using FM READ_TEXT i.e. retain existing text in internal table, say IT_READ
Delete existing text using FM 'DELETE_TEXT'. Remember to set save_direct = x
Perform BDC to add dummy text doing call transaction. This will set text indicator to ‘X’.
Append your new ext to IT_READ.
Now create text again using FM 'CREATE_TEXT'. Remember to set save_direct = x
If you have requirement that created text should not be editable then you need to change format of IT_READ.
Like IT_READ-tdformat = ‘>X’ & IT_READ-tdline = ‘*<one space><your text>’ [may use CONCATENATE '*' IT_READ-tdline INTO IT_READ-tdline SEPARATED BY space.].
