Create mail folder very slow

When I create a mail folder, or a subfolder in a mailbox, it takes between 1-4 minutes to complete.
Wasn't always like this, but I did notice a slight increase after upgrading to Mountain Lion. But it seems to be getting much worse.
Not running any plugins in mail, and everything is up to date system wise.
Any assistance is appreciated.

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • When I upgrade to yosemite, when I have to send and receive mail is very slow

When I upgrade to yosemite, when I have to send and receive mail is very slow. Mails take a long time to be send and receive, and the mail boxes disconnect frequently. I am using the yosemite mail server and don't have this issue with user with Maverick.
    Many Thanks

So let me see if I understood it right... In Mavericks you didn't had this issue, this only happens in Yosemite and you are using Apple Mail, not another mail client. Have you tried in System Preferences > Internet Accounts unchecking and rechecking the email checkbox on your account?? If that doesn't works try deleting and adding your account.
    Sorry for the bad English

  • Mail is very slow

Maybe this has been addressed before and someone can point me to the thread, but here is my problem.
Downloading mail is VERY VERY slow (just about unusable). I have tried MANY options (IMAP,POP, Mac Mail, Entourage). I have tried different mail servers, I have contact my ISP (Qwest), open different port on firewall, network speed tests are fine. I am ready to give up.
When I try to download a email that has any decent size attachment, it seems to take forever, or just hang. Has any body experienced these issue. If so maybe you have found a solution. Any help would be GREAT.
    iMac 20" 2.4
    1 GB
    Mac OS X 10.5
Purchased with Tiger, install Leopard from included DVD (bought day after Leopard release)

This very serious issue has been addressed in a few other threads on this forum - but unfortunately with no resolution to date.
Being a dual-CCIE - I know how to and have certainly troubleshot all the possible network configurations issues that could be causing this - they are not the problem.
Mail is very unstable in Leopard - and all we can hope is that Apple developers are trolling these threads and recognize how critical to business this is - and post a OS update fixing these issues fast.
Until then .... sigh ... use Thunderbird I suppose?
Stinks because since switching from a PEECEE in June - I REALLY love Apple Mail.
If the developers are listening - one other thing I would love to see come to fruition in Mail pertains to creating rules or Smart Mailboxes: Currently you can do a Boolean AND or an OR between conditions in a given Ruleset - but it would be infinitely helpful to be able to create a set of conditions with a AND or an OR WITHIN the conditions, and then create a 2nd set of conditions with an AND or an OR within those conditions - but then BETWEEN the condition sets - do a Boolean AND or OR between them - so something like this:
    Smart Mailbox Ruleset:
If ANY of the following conditions are met:
Condition 1 = Subject contains "important"
Condition 2 = Subject contains "meeting"
Condition 3 = Entire Message contains "corporate"
    AND
Condition 1 = Message is in Mailbox "Personal"
Oh well - Hope the fix comes soon for slowness....

  • Having mail problem very slow opening, deleting, unable to move to folders

Have a 2 GHz Intel Core Duo Mac OS X Ver. 10.6.8 - Having AppleMail problems: very very very slow opening any new incoming mail, can't delete, can't assign to Spam, and can't move to any folder for storing, and can't empty trash.  Seems to be corrupted and might need to reload the Mail Program (Version 4.6) and need to know if I can reload the mail program  and if I did would I lose all the data stored in folders?  I don't know how to reload the Mail program.  Also the entire computer seems to be slow to react as well but mail is worse.  I've checked and emptied caches for the browsers I use.  Connecting to Internet all right but as I said, slow to react.  I would appreciate any advice. Thank you.

MichelPM, I don’t know how to find out how full is my Mail app.  I confess to being mostly an ignoramus about computer hardware, software, applications storage and usage.  I know where to look for some stuff, but I don’t know what all the information means.  I found the page under About this Mac Serial-ATA that gives the following info:  Macintosh HD:
      Capacity:          319.73 GB (319,728,959,488 bytes)
      Available:          270 GB (270,003,339,264 bytes)
Then under Memory Slot there are two banks in Bank 0 all categories are empty but Bank 1 says
                        Size:          1 GB
        Type:          DDR2 SDRAM
        Speed:          667 MHz
        Status:          OK
I usually have three browsers open and one to two wordprocessers (Word and TextEdit),  the resident Dictionary.  When needed but closed when done with the current activity are Preview, Adobe Reader.  I do have a lot of documents on the desktop and filed in folders are uncountable.  I could commit most of these to flashdrives if I have to, but I’m not sure how to save all the stuff I have in folders in the Mail app.  I do not run any antivirus or “crapware” software that I can find in the MacHD applications folder.  I’ve never downloaded such programs.  I will commence to copy to external drives data I wish to preserve.  Can I copy the entire mail set of archive folders to an external hard drive?  I have a La Cie.
With much appreciation for any help you offer,
    MMarvelous

  • Sending mail with "sent" is fast, but copying the sent mail is very slow, sometimes takes a minute; can it be speeded up?

After hitting "send", a screen comes up showing a moving bar "copying the mail to the sent folder", the bar goes fully right on
the screen but then I must wait, sometimes a minute for the copying process to complete. Then I always get a screen message
next that says in effect could not copy, so I close that screen and then go to my sent folder and the email I sent shows up. So,
the copy process is very slow and then I get a message could not copy, but in fact a copy does appear in sent folder????
    Thank you

You do not mention how big is the Sent folder.
I would first try to archive a load of old sent emails. This will reduce the file size. Maybe the delay is due to a large file.
    Set up Archive Options:
    * https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/archived-messages
choose to archive by month and year and keep folder structure.
Archive anything older than a month.

  • Synronizing folder very slow in main folder

I am experiencing that sometimes when I try to syncronize my main folder (that contains 12000 photos) it's either very slow and it's only importing half the pictures. If I syncronize the subfolder where the new picture are, they import in a flash. Why is that? What can I do?
I work on a MacBook Pro, but have recently shiftet from a PC and I'm using the same catalouge. 99 procent of the photos are jpg, their are some Psd files and some eps. I recently had problems importing two psd files. I let it sync for a few hours but the photos never showed.
    Anybody who can help?

I have the same issue. I use my Retina primarily for photography. Browsing photos takes a long time compare to my pc. The pc from 2006 is even faster opening the same folders with pictures from external harddrive. There should be users with same issue.
Would like to see a solution. Cant believe a 2006 quad core 4gb can out perform a 2.4 i7 16gb......

  • New folder, very slow typing response

Just bought my 2nd 13" mb pro from the apple store, had them install an addition 2g memory before I took it home and ever since I opened the package a couple weird things are happening.
    1) In entourage, when I goto make a new sub-folder below my INBOX I type in the name of the folder and the type is very very slow, never keeps up and it jumbles the words in the wrong positions. Eg. I type FITNESS on the keyboard, and it comes up NIFITESS and is very slow doing that. Whats the deal? New laptop, original and registered office installed. (almost like it has low memory)
    2) The system sometimes will hang for 5-10 seconds doing normal tasks, always comes back but it acts like it has memory issues
    Any help?

I am going to take her in tomorrow, since its new there is no reason why I shouldn't. The PRAM reset "seems" to have fixed the issue. Just not sure why I would have to reset that on a brand new machine 2 hours after it was turned on for the first time, makes me think something else is brewing in there.

  • Yahoo mail is very slow

For at least a few weeks yahoo mail has been very slow. It is slow to load the yahoo homepage, but it's worst trying to log into my mail. After I type my email address and password and pressed enter, it can take almost a minute for my mail (inbox etc) to actually load. Then it is also slow signing back out. Have noticed no problems with IE 8.

If you are running the add-on Maximum Adblock, disable the add-on and restart FF. Cleared up the Yahoo lag issues for me.

  • Is there a fix for Mail running very slow since upgrade to 10.8

Mail is running extremely slow since upgrade.  Open New Message window (or auto link to new email from another applicatin), click on outgoing email address field and begin to type.  Takes 15-30 secods per letter in the address to populate the field.  Click SEND and it takes up to 2 minutes to send... another 3 minutes to show up in SENT mailbox.  Sometimes completely chokes and have to Force Quit.  Have already run Disk Utility (Permissions and Directory Corruption Diagnostics and Repair), have Rebuilt the Mailboxes, have reinstalled OS 10.8 from Recovery partition.  IT IS STILL CHOKING, HANGING, AND NOT FUNCTIONING NORMALLY.  Any Ideas ??? Please help!

I have my 'Check for New Messages' set to 'Manually'.  This is a problem with setting up a New Message to send out.  I did go into settings under Composing Tab and unchecked "Automatically Complete Addresses".  This has resolved the issue of the spinning beachball when attempting to enter an email address into the "To:" field.  So, it is running at normal speed now, but I suspect there s a bug related to that setting... something that is causing a very slow background search through existing address book directory for recognizable email addresses to 'auto fill' in that field.  I have already trashed preferences for both Mail and Address Book and that did not resolve the issue, so it must be something else.  I can live without Auto Complete.  Thanks for the input!

  • Iphone4 getting lots of mails is very slow

    Hi Everybody.
I am using an Iphone4 with 4.3.2 iOS.
I have two email addresses, both of them are private (so not mobileme, gmail, yahoo etc..)
When i receive 1-5 mail mail app is respond very fast, (as fast as a usual app does on Iphone 4)
but when i got 15- or more emails it takes 5 minutes to load! (i do not have problems with the download!). I see all the (let say) 20 mails in the mailbox and i would like to delete them. I have a button on the upper right corner "Edit" and after that i can select which mail to delete.
Usually (1-5 mail) it takes within a second, to select and earese them. When I have a bit more like 15- or more it takes 5 minutes!!!!!! I push the Edit button and after I will wait 2 minutes when the application response me. Sometime it looks like it was frozen, so I hit home button and open mail again. but nothing happend if i would like to delete them I will have to wait so long.
If anybody had/has something like this, or solution for my problem, please share with me.
(The mails are simply text mail, not html with big picture, no attachment, nothing just simply text!)
    Thank you very much.

My emails on both of my Macs send very slow. And I don't use signed email. I've searched this forum for answers and no one has answered the question.

  • After installing Snow Leopard, Mail became very slow contacting provider

With Leopard, our Mail on different Macs where very quick to contact the provider. You know what I mean, not sending or receiving the messages, I mean the connection procedure at the beginning. With Snow Leopard this procedure became very slow. Never understood why

    HI,
    Launch Mac Mail.
From the Menu Bar, click Mail/Preferences.
Make note of your preferences then locate this file.
    com.apple.Mail.plist
Move that file to the Trash and restart your Mac.
    Also, try repairing disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
And try Mac OS X - Maintenance

  • Mail app very slow auto completing recipient field

after typing in a few characters in any recipient field in mail I get the spinning beach ball for up to 20 seconds while mail tries to automatically complete the address, is there anyway to reduce the lag time without turning this feature off.I have cleared the "previous recipients" window. LDAP is also configured (doesn't seem to make any difference). Making mail unusable at the moment....help greatly appreciated

Please confirm that in your Home folder's Library, you find the folder Application Support, and in that folder, you find the AddressBook folder. Open the AddressBook folder and report the files and folders within. (~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook)
Also, again in the Finder, check ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.addressbook.plist for dates created and last modified. I am thinking this one may need to be removed, and AB allowed to create another, but not yet suggesting that.

  • My mail is very slow, each email takes a long time to open. Any suggestions?

Suddenly my mail accounts are taking a long time to open.  I'm not sure what the problem is.  Anyone else have the same situation?

I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro as well - just the 15" model. I've been running Mountain Lion since it was released and have had no problems with my computer being slow, battery problems, etc. But some people did have problems with battery life after upgrading to Mountain Lion.
Have you installed the 10.8.2 Combo Update as well as the Supplemental Update? It should 'fix' the battery problem. I've no idea why your computer is slow, but you may want to take a look at this user tip - Why is my computer slow?
    Good luck,

  • TS3276 My mail is very slow

Hello I just gota new Macbook Air 13" now when i send mail it takes about a minute to send, i saw some fixes but none has worked for me any ideas?

Do a backup.Take notes of all account information or take screen shots. You may need to set the accounts up again. Quit Mail.
Triple click on the line below to select it.
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Control - click on the on the above after it is selected. Choose Services/Reveal from the contextual menu. You should be taken to that folder in Finder. If not, copy the highlighted line and while holding down the option key, select Go/Go To Folder from the Finder menu bar. Paste the line into the window. You won’t see it.
Move the folder com.apple.mail to your desktop. You must move the entire folder, not just the contents.
Relaunch Mail and test. If the problem is solved, recreate any required Mail settings and delete the folder on the desktop. If the problem remains, return the folder to where you got it replacing the one that is there.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/04/show-library-directory-in-mac-os-x-lion/
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.2. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.
