Create Mpeg2 program stream file

I am going to send in a film to a competition that requires the following format:
File type: Mpeg2 program stream, field order B (.mpg). format: 720 x 576 (bxh), 25 fps. (Pal DVD) 24 bit, 4:3. Video Bit rate: 6 - 8 Mbit.
Can I create this in FCE and how?
Or which programme would I need?
(I only have iDVD for creating dvds)
Ulla

Hi,
by reading at FCE4 manual, page 1020 it doesn't say that it can export MPEG2 files, but MPEG4.
iDVD encodes the source material into MPEG2 for DVD authoring.
As it seems that you need a file (not a DVD), iDVD creates assets (encoded movies) before burning into a DVD. Those assets are inside the iDVD project and are created when iDVD encodes your movie, but I'm not sure whether you can use them as your output file to deliver for your contest.
You can try and see if iDVD will keep them before burning (you can avoid to burn a physical disk, the encode happens before).
There might be other free tools that can produce the MPEG2 files, but I don't know any of them.
Regards,
Armando.

  • Creating a Program Stream MPEG File

    I work at a small public cable access operation and we use Final Cut 4 to edit our video. The video is then burned to DVD for airing. We recently purchased a file server that requires the files to be in MPEG 2 Program Stream format. It is my understanding that Final Cut Pro creates MPEG 2 Transport stream formats.
    I am looking for both hardware and software solutions to convert from an MPEG 2 transport stream to an MPEG2 program stream.
    Thanks for the help.

    I use Compression Master by Popwire. Expensive at $499, but it works. I don't think you can convert transport streams to program stream though.

  • Can i Export a file in to MPEG2 Program Stream in Adobe Media Encoder

    Can i Export a file in to MPEG2 Program Stream in Adobe Media Encoder

    Transport Stream Option is available in Encoder's Multiplexer but there is no option of Program stream?

  • Program Stream files not loading?

    I used compressor to create program streaming video files which I uploaded to my site on Hostgator.  The files, when invoked by my website link, take so long to show up, as in 10 minutes or so, that I'm considered a different approach.  My browser is Firefox but Safari doesn't work either. Any ideas?  Thank you.

    Neophyte here.  FYI.  I chose a Compressor setting because I wanted my video links to being playing as soon as the link was invoked.  The files are rather large...350-450 mb...even with the program streaming option.
    I understand my other display options include embedding the QT on the site (construting in iWeb) , rather than using links.  I wanted a single page for each video (there are five, each 3 minutes or so long) in order to focus attention.
    If embedding is my choice for quickly seeing the videos, I will.  But I'd like to know if my choice of compression is the best way to go.  I'm using Hostgator which says they're 'not really set up' for streaming, yet mention flv as an option.  So perhaps my solution is to compress for YouTube and make my files private links to my site.
    I know this problem crosses topic boundaries.  As I said, I'm trying to muddle through, so if you can offer advice up to the point that I can cross to another topic group, I'd be very thankful.

  • Compressor-MPEG2 program stream from Final Cut. HD to SD

    I'm trying to export a SD 720x 480 video from a HD 1920 x 720 HD timeline in Final Cut. Each time I choose file, export with/compressor, Compressor opens fine. I don't have control of the pixel size! I choose NTSC and it says 720 x 480 but when I open the file it's 640 x 480. I don't know how to change the format and need to deliver in SD.
    Does anyone know how to pull SD from Finalcut? Please any help would be great!

    Hi,
    This appears to be the case but it's just QuickTime reporting back to you the wrong size file.
    Check out this free tool to tell you exactly what size and other nifty info your MPEG-2 files have:

  • Compressor making problem Program Stream Mpeg2s?

    I'm having an ongoing discussion with the manufacturer of our video playback server (Leightronix Nexus) at our station. The box uses Mpeg2 Program Streams for playback.
    I have Compressor 3.0.2. The Nexus playback is having occasional stutter problems playing back the Mpeg2 fies created by Compressor. I've verified bitrate, compressor settings, reimported the original footage, etc, but nothing seems to help. Finally I got a response back from Leightronix that reads:
    "The problem is Compressor is not very good at creating a MPEG-2 Program stream file. Use ffmpegX to convert your MPEG-2 transport stream from Compressor to a MPEG-2 Program stream that will play fine on the NEXUS."
    I'm trying to get additional technical information from them on exactly what Compressor is or is not doing, but I'd thought I'd ask first if anyone else has had issues with the Mpeg2 PS output from Compressor for anything they're doing? All these files play fine on the Mac itself, it's just when they actually air for us.

    Further information about this problem ... the issue is that Compressor is creating a VBR file which has some problems. In portions of the video where there is a mostly white background or mostly black background (say a white screen with a single word of text), and creating an Mpeg2 Program Stream with VBR (6 min, 7.2 max), the algorithm will cause the bitrate to go way below the minimum during that portion of the file. Quicktime will play it correctly but other playback machines have a problem with it.
    We were able to get around the problem by just setting Compressor to CBR @ 7.2 but it's still an issue. If anyone at Apple wants a copy of the Quicktime MOV we were converting, contact me at [email protected] and I'll get it to you.

  • Compressor 3.5 won't let me reduce the MPEG2 program file average bit rate

    Compressor 3.5 won't let me reduce the MPEG2 program file average bit rate less then 10Mbps. I just installed this new version and it is giving me this problem. I have been delivering an 1hr MPEG2 program streaming at 6Mbps average to 7.1Mbps Max output with Compressor 1 for a year now. Here is my workflow;
    Drop the 1440X1080 into NTSC timeline and DO NOT conform so it will be rendering as 720X480 then shoot that sequence to compressor to above settings. It worked just fine for a year. Now, this new compressor wont let me do less then 10Mbps which is the lowest bitrate for HD. The network can not run any bigger file than 6Mbps. I checked my settings restarted and all that. IS this a bug that needs to be fixed? Any help would be appreciated since my deadline is tomorrow.

    Sorry, meant to say that this only happens with court databases. As far as I can tell, I can download from other sites with no trouble.

  • Creating MPEG-2 Program Stream for Broadcast Delivery

    Hey all,
    I'm trying to switch my entire workflow to Adobe CC and I need some help. I edit a weekly TV program and I need to output to an MPEG-2 Program Stream with .scc closed captioning embedded in the file. Does Adobe Media Encoder allow for such a file? The only thing I've seen is that you can embed closed captioning into a Quicktime file. Can I make an MPEG-2 Program Stream Quicktime? Any help is appreciate, thank you!

    Yeah I was able to create a transport stream file in compressor, but I ultimately need a program stream file.
    Using the MPEG Stream Clip, I was able to convert a transport stream file to a program stream file for testing on my system. Hopefully by tomorrow. I should be completed with my second test using longer clips (under 10 mins). I'll post my findings when I'm completed, but it looks like this is going to work for me.

  • Compressor v4.1.3: can't create mpeg2 movie: Error: This Is Null

    Using Compressor 4.1.3 and FCPX 10.1.4, I attempt to use compressor to create a MPEG2 movie using the "MPEG2 Program Stream, 15mpbs" option. I was successful once, the first time. But I had a problem with that video in that the audio would play but the video would freeze. So any attempt since then fails with the following error:
              Failed 3x Host: [macbook]: Error: this is null.
    I don't change any of the video default options. Just using all of the default options  presented to me. And it fails.
    Seems like a bug in compressor since I'm not changing any options.
    Any idea what the problem might be, or how I can create MPEG2 movies using compressor?
    Thanks, Jim

    WWhat are your  computer specs? Have you made system changes? Did you repair permissions?

  • Streaming files problem

    Hi, I am trying to joint two videos as one and then export as hinted file, but when I play that file through steaming server, I could only see the images of video 1, although video 1 finish playing, it still play the last frame of video 1 and the audio of video 2 at the same time.
    I noticed that when I copy and paste video 1 into video 2, it create a new video track inside video 2, is there any way to make only one track when I merge two videos?
    Thanks in advance.

    I believe you can do this in QTPro. Open both movies, select all of the "second" one and then "copy". In the "first" movie, move the play head to the end of the timeline and "paste" the other movie in. This should create one timeline with both pieces. Then you need to Export the file out (to H264) and don't forget to "hint" it for streaming. The resulting file can be streamed using QTSS. I think there are some file formats that QuickTIme may have trouble doing this with though. I believe some MPEG-2 program stream files won't work. If it's weird to begin with, try up-converting everything to DV then feed QTPro the DV files.

  • Mpeg 2 Program Stream

    I have to provide an mpeg 2 program stream file monthly for playback of school board meetings & I'm looking for something other than Compressor to do it with. My main editor can do it, but then it's tied up all day rendering. The other system I have is too old to update compressor to do this file type. Any ideas?

  • 8dot3 filenames not created for Program Files and Program Files (x86)

    Interesting issue we are realizing on Servers deployed from SCCM 2012. 8dot3names are not created for Program Files and Program Files (x86). they are created for other files/folders at the root of C and below Program Files and Program Files (x86). This is
    causing issues when programs are installed and the path is then created with 8dot3 filenames for program files and program files (x86)

    Arg. we just got bitten by this "feature", and it's affecting our security software stack (name starts with M and ends with ee), and some ancient crud too.
    And found this, which suggests a logical reason for 8dot3name to not be present on servers, but, on clients, I think it's a rather gross assumption...

  • Purpose of creating smaller segmented stream f4f files?

    What the purpose behind creating smaller individual segmented stream f4f files instead of just creating a single large f4f file?
    If I removed the SegmentDuration and DiskManagementDuration parameters from the event.xml file so I can create a single f4f file, would there be any issues with streaming or performance?
    <Event>
      <EventID>cfhs</EventID>
      <Recording>
        <SegmentDuration>400000</SegmentDuration>
        <DiskManagementDuration>3</DiskManagementDuration>
      </Recording>
    </Event>

    <Event>
      <EventID>cfhs</EventID>
      <Recording>
              <FragmentDuration>4000</FragmentDuration>
      </Recording>
    </Event>

    There should not be any issue with streaming or performance if you choose to create single f4f file. The concept of smaller segment files is for DiskManagment to work so that anyone can manage thier disk space better.
