Create neural looking network in Illustrator

I've got the following "network" which I would like to resembler more a neural network (brain-kinda-looking, like this neural_networks_artist_rendition.jpg), but the overall shape should remain.
How can I accomplish this? The network should remain clean, as it is for a logo.

I realize AI is an illustration program.
Do you realize it is an object-based vector-based program? Do you know the difference between raster-based and vector-based content?
My question seems to be all over the forum but no one has been able to answer other than exporting to these file formats, which make text look awful and of no use....
And yet everyone else in the world makes proper web images every day using a plethora of programs, including these...go figure.
Am I missing something?
Yep. Pretty much.
Hello Adobe! People use transparency on website logos.
Hello, cocteau! What you're calling "transparency" is inherent to object-based vector artwork. But web browsers don't support object-based vector artwork, except via file formats like Flash and SVG, or by viewing as a PDF in a plug-in version of Reader. Raster imaging in general only supports "transparency" by either indexing a specific color (i.e.; "don't display this color", as in GIF) or including an alpha channel (i.e.; "blend all the pixels with existing pixels, based on values from this extra channel", as in PNG). It's all in the raster file format you use, cocteau; it has little-to-nothing to do specifically with Adobe software. Such things are among the most basic matters understood by someone doing web design.
When I export an eps from .ai file, and open the eps in photoshop,...I save as a gif for the web, it goes back to the original problem...creates jagged text. I"m giving up on this garbage...Thanks a lot adobe! Lower the price of this software if this is all that can be done.
Once it leaves Photoshop (or Illustrator, or whatever) as a non-proprietary raster image format, it's all about what the format can do re "transparency". You can do this stuff with most any graphics program. You should read about basic web design and the differences between raster and vector content, rather than rant.

• How do I create this look in illustrator....

I'm recreating some vintage art and am trying to get this spray paint look. Any suggestions on how to go about achieving this look (see photo) in illustrator?
I'm currently running CS4 (I'm on my work computer)....

- I've tried looking in the preset brushes, no luck!
- I've tried creating my own brush using vector spray paint, no luck!
- I've tried looking for illustrator brushes online, no luck!
This seems like a very simple effect to do, I know how to create this look in photoshop but I need this to be vector. Any suggestions would be great!
Thanks guys!

First...
There is nothing wrong with a 1-bit diffusion dither object being raster, as far as printing results is concerned. Such images date back to the days of MacPaint and Hypercard. They are same-size (historically usually 1-point) pixels, randomly distributed at varying frequencies to suggest tones (as opposed to individual printer spots being combined to build varying size halftone dots).
So if the tiny squares are vector, yes, they are scaleable. But so are 1-bit pixels. When you scale a 1-bit raster, you're scaling square pixels, which are printed as squares. So a scaled 1-bit raster image is just as "resolution independent" as a bunch of vector squares.
Second...
This effect was employed in illustrations and designs since the very beginning of desktop publishing. For example, I frequently used it in the 80s thusly:
1. Draw a vector path of any shape in FreeHand.
2. Copy it to Photoshop. Blur it. Convert to 1-bit using diffusion dither. Save it as TIFF.
3. Import into FreeHand. Stack it below the object for which it served as a glow or drop shadow.
FreeHand had the ability to apply any color to a 1-bit or grayscale raster image, and the ability to set the white pixels of a 1-bit image to transparent. Illustrator didn't gain those abilities until decades later.
So it's not oppressively tedious to use that method nowadays, even in Illustrator. (And frankly, that's the way I'd do it.)
Third...
Illustrator sorely needs to provided a diffusion dither option in its Rasterize command for 1-bit color depth (as I've been arguing for years) instead of its lame pattern diffusion. Then this effect could be applied easily and quickly to any object, either as a "nailed down" rasterization, or as a live effect.
However...
You can simulate a vector diffusion dither pattern that you can apply to any path by combining several Scatter Brushes and storing their combined application as a Graphic Style:
1. Draw a 1 point square.
2. Store it as a Scatter Brush. Set the Spacing and Scatter settings to Random. To constrain the pattern to one side of the path to which it is applied, set the low limit of Scatter to zero.
3. Duplicate the Scatter Brush two or more times, changing the Spacing and Scatter upper limits in each duplicate so as to make each duplicate Brush increasingly sparse. In the example shown, the first Brush is named Scatter Brush 1 and has its upper limits for Spacing and Scatter to 300. This Brush was duplicated twice, and those two values doubled each time. But of course you can use whatever settings work for the effect you want.
4. Draw a temporary path with a 1-point stroke. Apply Scatter Brush 1. Select the Stroke Appearance and duplciate it. Apply Scatter Brush 2 to it. Duplicate the Stroke Appearance again, and apply Scatter Brush 3 to it.
5. Drag the whole path and drop it into the Graphic Styles palette to define a new Graphic Style. Now you can apply the whole Appearance stack to any other path(s) with one click.
Being Brushes, the fineness of the pattern can be adjusted by changing the weight of the strokes:
And, of course, you can apply other effects to the Brushes and strokes involved. For example, set the Colorization Mode of the Brushes to be able to change the color of the dither pattern; and/or apply Transform Effect to offset the pattern from the object to which it is applied (as for dithered drop shadows).

I have files that may have been created in various versions of Illustrator. We need to be able to open them, but all we have is CS6 suite. I have called and been told that "technicians at adobe" could perform a paid service to find out what the files were created in and get them to be useable in InDesign 6, but I'd need an email address that was registered to our software to give the help desk person. After finding the correct email address, different adobe help number people told me to come here to ask as there is no phone support. Can anyone get me to an adobe technician that can provide a price quote for finding out what created these files and for getting them converted? Thanks.

Sorry, I understood you to say you had the whole CS6 suite, which includes Illustrator.
As far as finding out what the files are, sometimes you can look at them in a text editor to figure this out. See below; the, Creator Tool line. Not every software package makes it this easy, though.

• Can I create an extended network with a brand new TC and 2 first gen. AE units?

I purchased a TC 2TB yesterday and replaced my non apple router with the TC. I have 2 older AE units that I suspect to be first generation. TC is in basement and I have placed AE in garage where I spend most of my time. Signal in garage is weak and lags. Air tunes off of AE in garage connected to boom box works fine. I run AirTunes from 3 iPhones, iPod touch, and 2 iPads with no problems. The options in manual setup for the AE don't offer make this an extended network, I suspect because they are too old? I don't want to create a WDS network and sacrifice the bandwidth. My main machine is an iMac 27 that is one year old, this is in the kitchen pretty much midway between the TC and the AE in the garage, if that makes any difference?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Please take a look at the faint print on the side of both AirPort Express (AX) devices that you have to identify the Model No.
You will need # A 1264 to do what you want. If you have # A 1084 or similar, the devices that you have are not compatible with the "extend a wireless network" setup.
What are your findings?

• Can I create 2 Wireless Networks off of a FIOS Router?

Hi,
I expect to be getting Verizon FIOS within the next month. I will be splitting it with my brother as we live in a two family house, me one one side and him and his family on the other. We will have Internet, TV and Phone. We are looking to split the Internet and TV throughout the house to his side and my side. We already have Verizon as our phone carrier so we will be keeping our phonenumbers. Splitting the TV shouldn't be hard as we just need to connect my current cable line and his current cable line to the Splitter Verizon will be providing us.
The question I have is in regards to the Internet. Since we will be having TV I'm sure I need a coax connection from the ONT to the FIOS Router. What we would like to do is one of the following scenarios if possible, starting with what we really want first.  Note that all scenarios will include us disabling wireless on the FIS Router as we want out routers to provide the wireless.
1. We would like to connect 2 wireless routers to the FIOS Router to create 2 different wired/wireless networks based on the one FIOS Internet connection. Each connection will have its own SSID broadcast name (one for my side of the home and one for his side of the home). Is this as simple as connecting both routers' WAN ports via Cat-6 cable to seperate LAN ports on the FIOS Router? I would then disable wireless on the FIOS Router. I read somewhere that in order to do this, FIOS must offer 2 dynamic IP addresses. I was told this can be done with Time Warner Cable since it allows for 2 Dynamic IP Addresses. I would just have to connect a switch to the cable modem first. So, does FIOS offer 1 or 2 dynamic IP addresses? Regardless if FIOS offers 1 or 2 dynamic IP addresses, can I do what I want to do? If so, how? How would I set up the two routers? I imagine I would have to change the LAN IP addresses of the routers to something like 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.2.1 (since the FIOS Router is 192.168.1.1).  Anything else need to be done? Do I disable DHCP in the FIOS Router? Any help with this set up would be greatly appreciated.
2. If the above scenario cannot be achieved I was thinking of connecting my 1st wireless router to the FIOS Router via the WAN port on my 1st wirelsss router to a LAN port on the FIOS Router. Then I would connect my 2nd wireless router's WAN port to a LAN port  on the 1st wireless router.  I would then disable wireless on the FIOS Router.  Do I disable DHCP in the FIOS Router?  The settings would be below:
1st router:
-WAN/Uplink/Internet port plugged into FIOS Router
-LAN port/wireless as follows
Internal IP: 192.168.0.1
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
DHCP pool: 192.168.0.50 to .254
2nd router:
-Wan uplink port into LAN port of 1st router
-LAN port/wireless as follows
Interla IP: 192.168.2.1
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
DHCP pool: 192.168.1.50 to .254
This way  the subnets are different and I have 2 different networks.  I can set up 2 different SSIDs.  I believe this set up will result in double-NAT however.  Would this be an issue?
3. Lastly, if none of the above scenarios can be achieved, I was thinking of just using 1 SSID for the whole house.  I would connect my 1st wireless router's WAN port to a LAN port on the FIOS Router.  I would then connect a LAN port from the 2nd wireless router to a LAN port on the 1st wireless router.  Then I would disable DHCP on the 2nd wireless router so that is acts as a wireless access point.  I would change the LAN IP address of my 1st router to 192.168.1.2 and the 2nd router to 192.168.1.3 (since the FIOS Router is 192.168.1.1).  I would set up wireless and security the same on both routers.    I would then disable wireless on the FIOS Router.  Do I disable DHCP in the FIOS Router?  With this setup, will the 2nd router (wireless access point) only be a wireless access point or can I also connect devices to the router's LAN ports?
I know I may not have everything correct in the scenarios.  Will any of these scenarios work?  If not, what can I do to achieve my goal?  If so, then what must I change in a scenario to make it work properly?
I will need to do Port Forwarding for a Slingbox and 5 IP cameras, so how difficult would that be with the best scenarios?
Sorry for the long drawn out post, but I figured I give as much info as I could.
Thanks for the help in advance,
Chris

Yup, this is the easiest way to create two separate networks. There is no need for more than one IP address from Verizon as long each router runs in NAT mode.  NAT mode will also keep each network completely separate - no sharing of resources will occur between them.  Double NAT is not a problem in most cases.

• BUG: Access Connect Abort, when I create a new network profile.

Where can I report bugs?
My system is windows xp sp2 on X60.
I have been using AC-4.42(Access Connection) for a long time. And before,  there is no problem when I added new network profile into it.
But yesterday, I wanted to add a new profile into it. I opened the "create profile" window and input the name of the new profile (I have two network adapters, wired and wireless. So by default, the both are selected. And I left the default selection unchanged.), then "Next". The 2nd window is about wireless config, I configured everything, then go on "Next", at this moment, an error occured and AC aborted with four error windows. The titles of those windows are "ACMainGUI.exe error" and "ACMainGUIWnd: ACMainGUI.exe".
Then I did it again, I opened the "create profile" window, and this time, in this (1st) window, I changed the selection of network adapter, besides inputing the name of the new profile. I only selected the wired adapter, and then "Next". Sadly, this time the 2nd(next) window did not appear(pop up) at all. Instead, those four error windows poped up one by one.  AC aborted again.
I repeated the above operations many times, and everytime, AC aborted.
So I went to the online "support and download" to look for some updates about AC. And I found AC-4.52 with luck. After downloading and installing, unfortunately the problem still exists. AC-4.52 still aborts when I create a new network profile.
So now, what to do. I have no ways. I am expecting the developers could note this problem and fix it and give me a newer update as soon as possible.
Sigh...

I have exactly the same issue. Next to the actions mentioned by ixbm I have also fully uninstalled and reinstalled the AC-4.52, but this didn't help.
Any idea on how to solve, installing older version?

Not at all. Assuming you are talking about a one page folded brochure: Take a sheet of paper and fold it the way the brochure will be folded (bi-fold, tri-fold, or whatever). Hold it so you are looking at the "cover", and number that section 1. Continue to number each section as you unfold it. Then lay the paper flat to see the arrangement.
Folding it will also let you know if you need to allow a little extra on one side as opposed to the other (common for tri-fold brochures).

• How do I create a 3D pyramid using Illustrator CC?

I have been trying to create a 3D pyramid using Illustrator CC. All the tutorials I have found have been telling me I need to create a custom bevel, but the Bevels.ai file is not in the plugins folder as it used to be. How do I create a custom bevel in Illustrator CC?
Thanks!

Perfect now you have two such files whiuch ae different
yes, that's perfect. Because that way you've got the origibal unaltered file as a fallback in case you made any error when editing it.
snd looking for trouble when all you had to do was save it and close it.
No, you're not looking for trouble when saving a copy. Actually in the future you're looking into less trouble not having to open the program package again, mistaking the open window with something else and editing in there.
Not like Illustrator is prone to preference corruption.
Preferences have got nothing to do with the plugin folder.

• Should AEX as WDS "create" or "join" network?

I have just set up a system with my iMac using one Airport Express as a base station and two as remote base stations , following the WDS setup in Airport Setup Utility. This is to extend the range of my network. But when I look in Airport Admin Utility, I see that both remote stations under Airport/Airport Network, Wireless Mode, are listed as "Create a Wireless Network (Home Router)" instead of the other option "Join an Existing Wireless Network (Wireless Client)," which would seem more logical.
I am leaning toward leaving well enough alone, but I am curious about that. Any ideas? Thanks.

Another vote for leaving alone.
Though the language used may not seem logical it is in fact quite logical.
As already stated client mode means that the Airport Express is acting like any other device on the wireless network, connecting to the wireless network just as a device.
In wireless router mode, the Airport Express (AX) is usually getting its internet connection via the ethernet port and creates a wireless network, hence create a wireless network.
In WDS, the AX is in fact acting in a similar manner, it is creating a wireless network, but rather than getting its internet connection via ethernet it is getting it wirelessly.
So it receives its internet connection and then creates a "new" wireless network (as it happens with the same network name and channel as the main WDS base station), but basically a WDS node is in fact creating a new wireless network.
Personally I think though the language used is "logical" it can be confusing.
You don't need to change anything

• Fonts don't look good in Illustrator like they do in Flash

I have a pretty general question that I've been wondering about for some time now:  for some reason, my text does not look great in Illustrator.  It does not appear smooth and beautifully rendered like it does in flash; instead it looks a bit dull and somewhat pixelated at 100%.  Theoretically, they should both look the same, considering they are both vector-based programs, correct?  Or am I doing something wrong in Illustrator (a viewing setting perhaps) that is preventing my text from looking as smooth as it does in Flash?

Theoretically, they should both look the same, considering they are both vector-based programs, correct?
No. What for? You are confusing preview in AI with the final render for on-screen display in Flash. Think: When you work in a 300dpi doc, is there even a point in trying to get smooth display on a 96dpi computer monitor, when all it means is that in print it wil lagain look different? AI's preview is an approximation transposed to screen space, nothing more. Arguably, it would be possible to antialias it a bit better, but then performance also becomes an issue, and you wouldn't wanna trade interactive feedback for soem smooshed pixels, would you? I certainly wouldn't when even pretty standard illustrations have usually more lines, points and edges than a comparable Flash file. Screen update times could grow exponentially. Likewise, you would not want the AI team to even implement Flash's 7 different antialiasing methods, when 90% of users never would use them and just the opposite, even web designers long for creating better pixel-perfect content without any antialiasing. In addition, this highly optimised code may work on a  web interface at 72dpi, but would go to its knees with 300 dpi and beyond.... It's really two completely different things we are talking about here.

• Network Gurus: How to create a "virtual" network adapter?

We have an older Xserve (G4) with dual ethernet ports, running OS X Server 10.4 and FileMaker Server 5.5. One of the ethernet ports is connected to an internal network (behind the firewall), the other to an external network (in front of the firewall). There are appropriate IP addresses on each port. Thing is, I need FileMaker Server to be able to serve databases on BOTH network ports and it doesn’t seem to be capable. There’s a “preferred IP address” setting which lets me select the internal or external addresses, but not both.
Is there a way to create a "virtual" network adapter that I can point FileMaker Server to, but have all traffic from both ethernet ports go through this "virtual" adapter? Sort of like a 'software router'?

IMHO, a far, far better solution would be to turn on the VPN server built-into your Mac OS X Server.
That way remote users can connect to the VPN (automatically, even) and get assigned an IP address in the internal network. You gain a high degree of security knowing that only known, trusted external users can access your database. If you do configure Filemaker to listed on your public interface you have no practical way of preventing rogue users from accessing your data.
Since your server already has the VPN server installed, and any modern (or even semi-modern) client should be able to connect to it, I wouldn't look any further.

• I was able to create a guest network, However Devices will not log into it. Does this have anything to do with my uverse wireless modem

Help, I have created the guest network. However, no devices can log into it. Can someone help me with my Guest network issues?

Unfortunately, Apple assumes that you will be using a simple modem with their routers.  Something like this, for example, which will allow the Guest Network feature to work correctly, since the AirPort will be the main router on the network.
The Uverse is a modem/router, also known as a gateway......a device that combines the functions of a separate modem and separate router in one package. An example of a modem/router would look like this:
Because the Uverse is already operating as the main router for the network, the AirPort cannot take that role. So,  the Guest Network will not function correctly with the type of device that you have.....even if you try to enable it in AirPort Utility.
Suggest that you use the AirPort router as your main network, and use the Uverse wireless for "guests".
Sometimes, it is possible to reconfigure a modem/router to act as if it were a simple modem. I do not think that this is possible with a Uverse product, but you could check with ATT on that possibility if you wanted to do so.
