  • Distiller 5.0.5 and Office 2000 - creating pdf not working

I am using XP Home Edition SP2, Distiller 5.0.5, and Office 2000
Can not make PDF with 2000 WORD or 2000 EXCEL.
    - WORD: file > print > Distiller results in the conversion hanging up.  The file can not be deleted from the print que until the computer is restarted.  I can not create a postscript file by unchecking the "don't send fonts" check box and check "print to file".  Doing so results in a "prn" file.
I can create PDF with PUBLISHER if I create a postscript file by unchecking "Dont sent fonts", checking "print to file", adding "ps" at the end of file name, then clicking on the ps file, does result in a pdf file
I can create pdf files with file > print > distiller in PhotoShop and PaintShop Pro

After creating the PRN file, open the file in Distiller and see if you get a PDF. If so, then look for AcroTray running in the background. If not, then you need to start it (it is in the Acrobat 5/Distiller folder).

  • Create PDF not installed

I am upgrading my laptop from Vista to Windows 7, 32 bit.  Because of driver problems I had to do a full install of Windows 7 operating system, and reinstall Acrobat 8.  The Acrobat Create PDF links were not installed in Outlook and Word, and a PDF printer was not installed.  I haven't checked the other applications.  These links were available in Vista and have been installed with another laptop with Windows 7, 64 bit,  installed.  I customized the installation, but only omitted some of the language support.
I have reinstalled Acrobat 8 and restarted the computer.  Any suggestions.

In addition to what Michael said, keep in mind that different versions of Office also require different Acrobat versions/ add-ins. Office 2007 will require Acrobat 9, Office 2010 and above Acrobat X even.

  • IOS 8.2 and InDesign / layered PDF not functioning properly

Over the last week we deployed new iPads which came loaded with iOS 8.2. We are noticing that layered pdfs that formerly worked fine are suddenly experiencing buttons and text and even full pages and components completely disappearing when the document is used on the ipad. Wanted to see if anyone else had experienced this? We are following through with this in some other avenues, but am open to any advice.

    @Tina,
What you're experiencing is a limitation in the PDF readers on all mobile devices. Many of them do not support all the interactive features like buttons and video.
Here is an article I wrote a few years ago, but it's still mostly true:
For Interactive PDF, Not All Readers Are Equal | InDesignSecrets
You'll need to buy a PDF reader like PDF Expert (Readdle, $US 9.99) to view some of those features.

  • Acrobat 9 adding odd spaces in words when creating PDF

In the process of creating a PDF from a document using Acrobat 9 Standard AND Pro, extra spaces are being inserted into the text.
I have searched everywhere for a solution. Anything I found indicated fonts should be embedded. That's not a solution as we embed all fonts used in a document. Technical notes:
using File > Print and selecting Adobe PDF as printer
job options customized to embed all fonts used in document
use of Acrobat 9 Standard and Pro - happening with both versions
no consistency in the "error" - one PDF creation of the document is mangled, then one creation of the same document is fine
    Samples attached.
    Help!

We are using Adobe FrameMaker 8.0.
Save as PDF allows us to use our job options, so we felt it wasn't any different than doing a print - are we wrong?
Create PDF not an option available with Frame docs.
Re: software conflict, could having Reader installed on our systems (Windows Vista Enterprise) provide conflict? We haven't received any sort of error messages, etc.

  • Lost letters in created PDF

I have just created a manual from word and inserted quite a few documents throughout then added a number of links. When I look back through to check something I notice that letters like F, Q, M are missing from words and the decimal point between numbers. This is all the way through the created PDF not the attachments. Has this happened to anybody else, is there a fix, I spent 3 hours on this doc?

    1. Check the font embedding using ctrl-D and select the font tab. See what fonts are being used and if they are all embedded. The latter can be done by using the Press or Print job settings.
    2. You did not indicate the job settings. In the printer properties, select the settings tab and be sure you select one with Press or Print in the name (try both if you like to see any differences in size and such). These job settings are set to embed all fonts, even those that are default in Acrobat/Reader.
I will send you a PM with an e-mail so you can return some sample pages you are having problems with (not the entire manual) in both WORD and PDF format. I will then take a look.

  • I have Acrobat 9.5 and when I try to create pdf from scanner, it displays an error "Adobe acrobat has stopped working". Is there any way I can use this functionality?

I have Acrobat 9.5 and when I try to create>pdf from scanner, it displays an error "Adobe acrobat has stopped working". Is there any way I can use this functionality?

Provide you have Acrobat 9 installed in an OS for which Acrobat 9 is compatible then you can use the functionality.
As well, you need a scanner connected, powered up, and the software installed. Acrobat 9 "prefers" TWAIN drivers.
Always visit the scanner vendor's site and download - install the latest greatest software.
n.b., The Acrobat 9.x product family passed into "End of Support" mid-year 2013.
As well the Acrobat 9.x product family is not compatible with contemporary OSs.

  • MS Outlook 2010 Add in Create pdf - does not create pdf of draft emails- Adobe Acrobat Pro X

In MS Outlook 2010 Add in Create pdf- does not create pdf of draft emails- this maybe the case, but just wanted to make sure this is normal for the program- though I guess one can print as an Adobe pdf but it does not maintain the hyperlinks of email addresses etc. the functionality is compromised in a print vs create a pdf.

Here's a workaround by the team:
Right click on the message from Explorer list view or folder view and chose the option to convert to PDF.

  • Creating PDF in Lotus Notes (8.5.3) using XI (11.0.06)

I used to have Acrobat X Standard and I could create PDF portfolios from emails within Lotus notes (8.5.3). After upgrading to XI Pro, I seem to have lost this functionality. Furthermore, when I try to 'print' an email to create a PDF I get a print error from Lotus Notes.
Printing to an actual printer or printing to a cheap Acrobat alternative that my company installs on all computers works fine.
I bought XI Pro to use Actions, so I am not overly concerned about this issue, but am curious if anyone else is getting similar issues?

Experts, does anyone had similiar problem?

  • Can't create PDF, Acrobat not activated

I recently needed to move my system over from XP to Vista since programs were unresponsive due to virus infection.  Re-installed CS3 Design Premium which comes with Acrobat 8 Professional.
Had no problem previously creating PDFs, but now sometimes I can and sometimes I can't.  When attempting to print from a report obtained from www.intellicorp.net (background check) I get an error message that says the software has not been activated, but it has been.  I can print to Adobe from my Windows Calendar.
Tech Support's solution is to deactivate the suite, remove the programs, install Acrobat 8 then install the other components of CS3.
Does anyone have a solution that doesn't involve reinstalling.
    Thanks,
    Anna

Acrobat 7 just isn't compatible in the Windows 7 64-bit environment.
An excerpt from a KB article from the days of XP x64.
Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Setup was unable to create a new item: Adobe PDF Port Printer," when you install Acrobat 7.0 or Acrobat 3D. The Adobe PDF Printer will not be created. Therefore you will be unable to print to the Adobe PDF Printer to create PDF files. Additionally, other PDF creation paths that use the Adobe PDF Printer will fail; this includes the PDFMaker functions in MS Office applications and AutoCAD and the Create PDF From Multiple Files option in the Acrobat file menu.
To create PDF files, create PostScript files and open them in Acrobat Distiller 7.0 to convert them to PDF. For instructions on creating PostScript files for use with Distiller, see document , "Install the AdobePS printer driver to create PostScript and printer files in Windows applications."
This KB article has a link for 64-bit compatibility of Acrobat 7.x, 8.x, and 9.x respectively.

In a Windows 7 64-bit environment if Office 2010 applications are used and it is desired to use Acrobat's PDFMaker then Acrobat X is needed.

  • InDesign CS5 interactive PDF export not functioning

Hey guys, I have been starting to work with some interactive designs within InDesign CS5, mainly animations (menu fly out on mouse over, moving object on page load) . However each time I have exported my work as an interactive PDF, nothing functions, it all appears as static images. I have tried viewing in Acrobat XI, Adobe Reader, Safari.. all with the same result.
I have used the preview function to review that animation is working properly before exporting and every works flawless, it just doesn't export any of this. I have tried editing a new PDF preset and exporting that way. I have tried both "Interactive" and "Interactive for PDF" modes as well, in case that matters. I have had absolutely no luck and hope someone can find something I must have missed? Thanks for the help on this!

Animations are not supported natively in PDF files... Preview shows you just a Flash/SWF preview, not PDF preview.
Only way to use animations in PDF files is to create Flash/SWF file which includes animation(s), place that SWF to InDesign and export Interactive PDF after that.
And it´s just a work-around, not very good one IMO.... I don´t believe you can do animated menus with that technique....

  • I have created PDF from hardcopy by using my scanner. After I run OCR option for my PDF by using Acrobat Pro 9. But "Text-to-speech" functionality of the PDF says that an error message comes up that says the page is empty when I turns on the read out loud

I have created PDF from hardcopy by using my scanner. After I run OCR option for my PDF by using Acrobat Pro 9. But "Text-to-speech" functionality of the PDF says that an error message comes up that says the page is empty when I turns on the read out loud option in Acrobat. Kindly help me to sortout this problems?

So I tried generating the same PDFs on two other computers that have Acrobat 9 Pro.  Results were reproduced.  The verdict is:
    - complex PDF files (that is, containing cross-references, tables of contents, and bookmarks) generated by Acrobat 9.x Pro are roughly 2-5x larger than the identical file generated with Acrobat 8.x Pro.
    - different PDF conversion settings make a negligable difference (less than 10% rather than 70-80%).
    - using the "Reduce File Size" or "Optimize PDF" option cuts the file size roughly in half, almost always resulting in a "image downsampling mask" warning message, which requires acknowledgement (that is a problem for batch processing or automation).
    - adding an Acrobat watermark to the file cuts the file size roughly in half.
    - just using Save As to another filename has no effect on file size.
    - generating the PDF in Acrobat 9 with links but no PDF bookmarks still results in the inflated file size.
    - generating the PDF in Acrobat 9 without any links or bookmarks results in approximately the same file size as the Acrobat 8 PDF with full links and bookmarks.
It appears that Acrobat 9's manner of adding links is what's bloating  the files, and in my case it's probably not related to images or image resolution/print quality.  It's a shame, because Acrobat 9 seems to have made some  improvements to the Review Tracker interface, and a few other bells and  whistles which I haven't really gotten around to exporing yet.  But  unless I find a way to keep my links and the PDF file sizes comparable to what I was  getting with Acrobat 8 Pro, it looks like I'm going to stay with Acrobat 8.

  • Creat PDF funtion in Word 2010 Not Working Correctly

    Hello.
We recently installed Adobe Acrobat XI Standard within our orginization. We are having issues with our company letter head and the Create PDF function within Word 2010. When we attempt to use the Create PDF function, it creates a PDF that has the letterhead elements, but no text on the page. When we select to print to PDF, that option works without issue. Can someone lend some advice here?
    Thank you!

    Hi LotteNZ,
Just for clarification, I'm using PowerPoint 2010 and Adobe Pro XI.  I have an ongoing project for which I have to produce a PDF based on a PowerPoint file that has a lot of links.  I eventually found an actual Adobe person who answered my question so I could stop looking for features that don't exist.
    Here's the bottom line:
    - Links that go to Next, Previous, First, or Last slide will work correctly in the PDF
    - Links that go to other specific slides within the file will not be transferred to the PDF
    - The links that don't get "inherited" in the PFD have to be re-created in the PFD (which isn't difficult -- just tedious when there are a lot of them)
Adobe is aware of this but the person who wrote me did not know of any specific plans to fix it in future releases (which doesn't necessarily mean that they won't).
I think Adobe supports "its own" first, which makes sense.  I believe that If the source file was created in InDesign, all of the links would be supported.  But for a variety of reasons, in my case, my source file has to be PowerPoint.
It's annoying having to recreate links every time I make changes in my source file and so one trick I've learned is to only replace pages that have changes.  It's an imperfect system, but it does speed things up.
    Hope that helps!

  • Need to create pdf using adobe live cycle designer using function module

    Hi,
Needed some help regarding creating a pdf at the backend. I will have function module in the backend which contains all my data and also an image represented as a Base64 encoded string.
What i need to do is pass this data onto adobe live cycle designer fromthe function module and create a pdf at a particular location. Please let me know how can we achieve this. if there is any function module to do the same. how does the function module i have defined call the adobe live cycle designer transaction or module to create a pdf. i am not an abaper so dont have much idea about the details.
    Thanks.
    Regards
    Srikumar V

    Hi,
I will try to find the standard function module. If there is no such standard function module, then we need to create a custom function module.
    Check this link:
    Points that you can note:
    1) Adobe Interactive forms can be created & connected to SAP database using ABAP Workbench, through WebDynpro.
    2) Also adobe Interactive forms can be created & connected to SAP database using Transaction SFP.
    3) And for both of the above 'Adobe Live cycle Designer' should be installed on the front end.

  • Create PDF from Scanner - Scanner - Please select a device - Device not listed?

My scanning device, Brother DCP-1510 is installed and working properly. According to the device specs it has TWAIN, WIA, ICA, SANE2 drivers.
I can see and select the scanner in the native "Windows fax and scan" now it is connected to the computer. The device also works (scans OK, but without much functionality) using the default  "Control Centre4" ...
I wish to use Acrobat to scan some documents to PDF
In Acrobat the scanner is not listed in the "Please select a device"...
What should I do? Any tips to get the said scanner listed in device list?
[ btw... Acrobat has listed two other scanners in the device list for which I have installed drivers, but these devises are located in other offices (on the other side of the state unfortunately) ]

I am not sure which of the following did the trick...
I downloaded the drivers (latest software included was the only new thing, the drivers were actually the same versions)... Then I reinstalled the whole package...
I also followed the tips in Learn & Support and troubleshoot  Troubleshoot scanner issues item #4. Restart your computer with startup items disabled / and then turned on all the Adobe and Brother related ones (not the entire suite of apps and services)...
After the reboot and reconnecting the scanner it is there!  - "Create PDF from Scanner" "Custom Scan" "Input" "Scanner" "Please select a device" - both the TW and WIA devices...
What is the difference or advantages of choosing TW over WIA? maybe someone might chip in.. otherwise settled Thks!
