Create PDFs that can be edited in Acrobat Reader?

All,
Is it possible to create a PDF (designed in Indesign CC 2014/Mac, and exported as PDF in Acrobat Professional XI) that is then a) editable in Adobe Acrobat Reader XI (11.0.09) and b) is of the quality and has fonts embedded to act as a print quality PDF?
We seemed to have achieved this last year in a somewhat cumbersome manner but now on repeating the same process (Comments) Adobe prompts you to upgrade to Professional. Have features been disabled? Is there a way of doing this still? An efficient way?
We are trying to create a series of advertisement templates that the client can just edit certain text in.
Adobe, if you are listening... in the absence of not being able to email you directly, please help us out!

1. My mistake, for clarity the Client needs to edit the text in Adobe Reader XI (11.0.09).
2. I know that, but Client is insisting and I am looking for a definitive answer to end the matter
3. Yes I know, however we have advert templates that may contain a headline such as 'Property For Sale in <xxx> Area' and body copy that says: 'Thinking of selling your <xxx> Area property? Then contact your <xxxxx> branch...' (with <xxx> indicating areas the client needs to input text into a print-ready PDF in the correct embedded font, styled as per the brand guidelines (font size, font, font colour, justification) in Acrobat Reader XI (11.0.09).
4. That's what I thought, RE typographic control. To be clear by using the forms method it is not possible to style type? Nor is it suitable for high quality printing output?
5. This is an interesting point as yes our Client would need to save the files they've edited in Reader, so what issues would be faced?
6. We tried making the text editable whilst retaining the typographic style via Comments, but it involved exporting and drawing individual text boxes in a manual way.
I have suggested the Client upgrades to Acrobat Professional, besides that what would you suggest?
Much appreciate your support,

• Can I add a text form field in Photoshop that can be edited in Acrobat reader?

I design coffee labels with Photoshop then send them off to the printers. The printers then open up a PDF and put in the best before date before printing. At the moment I have to add the text form fields using Acrobat Pro after i've saved the photoshop document as a Photoshop PDF. The problem is if I want to edit the labels at a later date, I have to re-add the text form fields with Acroabat again.
Can I add a text form field in Photoshop that can be edited in Acrobat reader? Is it better to use another program for this task?
Thanks in advance

• How do I create a PDF form for submission that can be used by Acrobat Reader only users?

I am attempting to create a PDF document in Acrobat Pro with fields that can be submitted (via email) by users using only Acrobat Reader.
I have tried changing the properties of the 'Submit' button, although I am not sure what I am doing wrong.
Can anyone please help?
C.

I created a form using Adobe LiveCycle and added the submit via e-mail button. One change which I made was in the XML script I changed submission type to pdf, so that thepdf form itself would be e-mailed. This works fine if I use Adobe Pro 8, but when I tried the same using only Adobe Reader 7.0, it would not let me e-mail the form along with a message "This operation is not permitted".
Any comments?
Thanks

• SDK for creating PDFs, that can be emailed to end user?

Apologies if this is in the wrong section
I have been searching for a while but haven't found anything yet that I can see that covers my question, so please redirect me if this is a common/easy question!
This is not a matter of the user clicking on some icon in their browser window to convert the on screen HTML to PDF
I am not a developer, but may need to get one of my dev team involved in this discussion but thought I'd outline our situation
I work for a software company and as part of our product range, we offer online ticketing. We use ASP.Net as the development tool so all pages are aspx, we use a SQL back end, we use a CMS to plug our web modules into.
Scenario
You want to go to the local zoo. Rather than lining up and buying a ticket, you wish to purchase an entry ticket online. You go to the zoo's website and notice a Purchase Tickets link, which is where my company steps in, as the builder of the business logic behind purchasing the ticket
As part of the purchase process, you submit your name and email address, which is then stored in a SQL database.
At the end of the purchase process, you receive an email with two PDF attachments, being:
1. your ticket(s) and receipt, which shows details extracted from the SQL database. The tickets will include a barcode image (currently 1D, would stick with this for now)
2. ideally you will have a separate PDF that contains Terms and Conditions of Entry to the zoo
We have a solution that covers almost all of this, although currently we produce a single PDF that includes receipt, tickets and terms and conditions
The PDF generation is currently handled within our web modules, so effectively the ticket is being generated by the Web Server. We are currently using a product from Winnovative to produce the PDF pages
However the ticket generation is somewhat restrictive, and ideally we want to create much better looking tickets, that cater for formatting (font, color, etc) and ideally the ticket design could be changed by our clients (someone at the Zoo wants to add some static text, or an image, or move stuff around)
The barcode generation seems to work well for us at the moment, though our current solution only supports 1D barcodes. I don't think Adobe is the answer for the barcode generation, but the PDF needs to display the barcode we generate
I guess the first thing is, is there an Adobe product that sounds like it would suit our purposes? What would that product be?
Thanks in advance
Adrian

Yes, that is built right into Business Catalyst comments.
In the admin under the comments section you can select wether or not comments need to be approved first. You can then set up a user or workflow to be sent through email to the user to be able to approve it. Only catch is the user would have to have admin rights.

• How to create a fillable form that can be saved in Acrobat Reader

I'm new with fillable forms. I looked at it several months ago and I was sure I saw something about making the filled forms saveable in Reader but now I can't seem to find it. Anybody know?

Thanks! Not sure exactly how to extend reader rights, but I imagine I'll figure it out.

• Is it possible with Adobe Acrobat to create a PDF that has multiple usernames/passwors for read access and individualised watermarks or with any other adobe product?

Hi,
We're looking for a solution where a PDF can be created and distributed to multiple people - each with their own username/password to open - and also when opened created a user based water mark on the document. Is this something that can be done inside Acrobat Pro or is there a higher end product that does this?
Thanks!

If the list of people who and only who you want to be able to open this PDF is predefined, then you can use Certificate Encryption in Acrobat. For this method to work each of possible recipients of the encrypted PDF needs to procure a digital certificate with a private key enabled for encryption and send you the public key version of this certificate. Then you encrypt this PDF with public key certificates (there may be many of them) of all recipients you want to be able to open this PDF. Then you distribute this PDF to all recipients and each of them can then open this PDF with their private key certificates.
You can also create PDFs with Optional Content which contains different watermarks with the selector for a watermark based on user ID or some other identification of the user. I do not know, though how to create such Optional Content using just Acrobat Pro. You may need to write a plugin to Acrobat to do that.

• How to save a Photoshop PDF file with fonts that can be detected in Acrobat?

We created a PDF file using Photoshop CS5, for the purpose of using it as a watermark on documents. We saved this file as Photoshop PDF file, but for some reason the fonts cannot be detected when the file is opened in Adobe Acrobat.
We need it to be recognized by Acrobat so that we can easily add the watermark to documents on a regular basis.
Right now, Acrobat cannot detect the fonts in this file -- even though it is a basic font like Arial -- so when we add the watermark to a document, the fonts in the watermark becomes very degraded in appearance.
Any advice would be hugely appreciated!

I've tried several settings when saving as a PDF, to try to produce a file with fonts that can be detected by Acrobat. I tried the presets listed in guide: Photoshop Help | Saving PDF files
But none have worked.
I cannot use PNG because it is not one of the formats that Acrobat allows for a watermark. And JPG doesn't work because I need transparency.

Hi Michelle ,
We are extremely sorry that you have had a bad experience with Adobe .
As far as your issue is concerned ,Acrobat generally prompts for internet connection as it is required to activate the product before you could use it comfortably .Once the product is activated or licensed you would be able to use the software offline .
This could be the possible reason you are experiencing this .Please check if you have done so and still facing this .And if you have not ,you need to license/activate your product by typing in your credentials ,i.e Adobe ID and password .
You could also refer the following link to get updated about the activation of your product .

Thanks so much. I downloaded Acrobat XI. It's been "extracting" for the past 30 minutes (even with a fast wi-fi). Hope this is not a problem.

• How can I send scanned files, which are documents changed from doc to PDF, as documents that can be edited if the recipient doesn't have Adobe capabilities?

How can I send scanned files, which are documents changed from doc to PDF, as documents that can be edited if the recipient doesn't have Adobe capabilities?

Hi flaviusjack,
If you still have the .doc files, it might be best to send those to your recipients so they can be edited. Otherwise, you can use ExportPDF to convert the PDF files back to .doc format. But, again, that step would be unnecessary if you have the .doc files.

• PDFs that cause Digital Editions to crash/PDFS that show no content...

I've been happily using Digital Editions with lots of my PDFs and have been very pleased with the first version of this product. However, I've run into two issues that I was hoping someone could help me with...
1) I've found a PDF that causes Digital Editions to just crash when you try to view it. The PDF is InfoQ's free version of "Getting Started with Grails" (downloadable at http://www.infoq.com/resource/minibooks/grails/en/pdf/grails-getting-started.pdf if you register). The PDF is secured so it can't be printed. I loaded this into Acrobat Reader 8, no problem. I loaded it into Digital Editions, opened it, got a blank page. Tried to go to page 2, Digital Editions quits with the Windows standard dialog "Digital Editions has encountered a problem and has closed".
2) Some older PDFs (such as O'Reilly's free X Windows books) import but show no content at all (every page is blank). They work fine in Reader 8.
Has anyone else run into this or found a solution? I'm using Digital Editions 1.0.467.
Mark Davidson

dang! you're right. It does crash. I have logged a bug and we will fix it for the next release. The blank files may well be JPEG2000 images, which we do not yet support.

• Web dynpro screen with multiple rows with columns that can be edited

Web dynpro screen with multiple rows with columns that can be edited individually:
Hi
I am busy creating a screen in web dynpro for ABAP which we would like to make available via Portal ESS (Portal 7).
I need to add 'n type of table (or almost something like Excel) or something in which someone can type a few paycode numbers (there should be lets say 10 blank rows in which info can be typed in and if I click on a button or so, more rows must be added if necessary. Then in the other colums stuff like amounts must be entered which one should also be able to edit then and there.
Can anyone assist in what I can use for this? There does not seem to be some existing element that I can use.
Help will be appreciated.
Regards
Debbie

Hi Debbie,
Whiel Creating table you need to be care full that use chose INPUT FIELD as the CELL EDITOR. Just guessing that if ur table is not editable u might have choosen TextView as default cell editor type.
check link for details on TABLE UI
[http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp2005/helpdata/EN/b5/ac884118aa1709e10000000a155106/frameset.htm]
easy way is to first add UI ELEMENT TABLE to your VIEW, then right click over it & select create binding from context. After you have a pop up where you can select what columns you want what should be its cell editor etc.
Greetings

• Is there a list of Unicode characters that can be used in Acrobat bookmarks?

I can add Greek characters to Acrobat bookmarks using hexadecimal strings. For example, to print a lower case gamma symbol I use <FEFF03B3>. FEFF is the required Unicode flag and 03B3 is the Unicode code for gamma. This works fine. However, there are no Unicode entries for greek characters in the PDF 32000-1:2008 PDF Specification manual. Table D.2 - PDFDocEncoding Character Set on page 656 lists Unicode characters and these also work when added to bookmarks but no Greek codes are in this table. Since I can sucessfully use Greek Unicode characters in the range of 0x0391 - 0x03CE and these characters are not listed in the PDF manual I am assuming there are additional Unicode character that will work in bookmarks. Therefore, I am looking for a complete list of Unicode characters that can be used in Acrobat's bookmarks. Does such a list exist?

Thank you for the response.
I'm sorry to hear there is no list available. I'm building the Acrobat bookmarks automatically. The input data contains entity codings (for example, a lower case Greek gamma is coded as γ) and I was hoping to be able to just pass these through with an automatic conversion to a hexadecimal string (for example <FEFF03B3>). If I had a list of valid Unicode characters, that will display in an Acrobat bookmark, I could validate each entity before the conversion and catch the ones that won't display correctly. I know these types of characters are out there because I have already come across them. For example, a superscript 5 (0x2075) displays fine in MSWord but shows as a white box in a bookmark. Now I'll need to proof the output PDFs and look for white boxes in the bookmarks so that I can build my list of unicode characters that do not work in Acrobat bookmarks.
Again, thanks for your help.

• Exporting pdf in Indesign that allows commenting & saving in Acrobat Reader

I have a feeling there isn't a way to do this but I thought I would ask in case there is. I was wondering if you can export a pdf in Indesign CS4 that someone who is using Acrobat Reader X can comment and then save. I know you can open the pdf in Acrobat Pro and select Advance>extend features in Acrobat Reader and that will work but I was wondering if there was a way to skip this step.
Thanks!

No.
