Create playlist from iPhone

Every time I create or add to a playlist on my iPhone, it makes a duplicate playlist once it syncs with my Macmini. Example; I'll have a playlist called "Alternative" and if I add to it from my iPhone all is fine until I sync. It will then create another playlist called "Alternative 1". That list will usually have a couple less songs in it but sometimes the same # of songs.
Also, my wife will create a playlist on the fly from her iPhone. This usually results in duplicates, etc. One of the so called "geniuses" at the Apple store told me that I should just create playlists from the Macmini an not from te iPhone. Well why in the heck does the iOS give you that capability if they suggest you not use it?  I wish Apple could figure out the whole sync thing. Too often I sync and lose a playlist or song, etc. Any thoughts out there?

Hi, Hopperty63.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I would need clarification on your question to provide a better answer.  However, if you want to create a playlist on your iPhone with music synced from your computer, see the information below.

  • Transfer Music Ratings and Playlists from iPhone 5c to Macbook Air iTunes

    Hi,
My iPhone 5c used to sync with my old Windows laptop via iTunes and both devices held all music information on them such as iTunes rating, playlist information and the selected songs to be synced (there are more songs on my iTunes on my laptop than my iPhone).   All of these songs are also saved on an external hard drive.  None were purchased through iTunes.
When my old Windows laptop died, it died abruptly so I did not have chance to consolidate the iTunes media folder.  I have now bought a new MacBook Air to replace my old Windows laptop.
When I plug in my iPhone 5c to my new MacBook Air, when iTunes offers to sync it advises all information on my iPhone will be lost.
Is it possible to transfer the ratings and playlists from my iPhone to iTunes on my MacBook Air, at least for the corresponding songs that exist on my iPhone?  Note I have the original songs on an external hard drive so the song files themselves do not have to copy across.  All the files in the iPhone exist in the external hard drive.

Below are the steps about how to transfer playlist from iphone to itunes:
Step 1: To create a playlist on your iPhone or other iOS device, open the Music app and then tap on Playlists at the bottom left of the screen. Once there, tap on Add Playlist… at the top of the screen. Here you will be prompted to name your new playlist. Enter a name and then tap on Save.
Step 2: Each song will have a blue “plus” sign to its right. Tap on the sign next to each song to add it to your new playlist. When you finish choosing songs, tap on Done at the top right of the screen to finish creating your playlist.
Step 3: Connect your iPhone to your Mac or PC either via a cable or wirelessly and click on it from the menu on the left pane.
Step 4: From the tabs at the top of the iTunes Window, check the Sync Music option and also check the Selected playlists, artists, albums and genres. Then select the playlist you just created from the list below. To start syncing, click on the Apply button.
Step 5: Syncing will then start and after it is complete, you will see that the playlist you just created on your iPhone is now also on iTunes under Playlists on the left pane of the iTunes window. Or vyou can use iPhone Transfer.

  • How to transfer playlist from Iphone 6 to Macbook pro

I lost my playlist on itunes, recovered from backup but playlist came back empty or missing songs. I have them on my iphone. How can I transfer them to my itunes on my mac? I am on Maverick and Itunes 12.

I have also meet this annoying issue a few days ago, and I google on the internet to search how to how to transfer playlist from iPhone to iTunes, and finally find the answer, I hope  that can help you.
Connect the iPhone and select it in iTunes. Click the gray disclosure triangle the left of the iPhone name in iTunes. Select the playlist you want on the iPhone then right click - Export.... Save it as .xml file on the desktop. Then iTunes menu File > Library > Import playlist and select the .xml file you saved on the desktop.
Besides, if you don't want to use this way to transfer playlists, you can try iPhone Transfer, this is a convenient software which can help you a lot in transferring playlists. Hope you can solve this problem finally.

  • Creating playlists from a remote mac mini

I have most of my music ripped to a Mac Mini using iTunes. when I use my G5, i can see of the music and play it on the G5 (or any other Mac in the house). I'm sure i've done this next thing before, but I can't remember how i did it.
I want to create a playlist on the G5 which references songs off of the Mac Mini. I will want to both play that playlist on the G5, as well as burn CDs from that playlist on the G5.
    any help would be appreciated.
    thanks

If you are using the sharing function of iTunes, this
will only make the songs available for playback. You
can't create playlists from shared music or copy the
    songs.
    M
M - Is there a way to stop the sharing function ? I have the same problem but I do not need to share as my old computer is not in use, I deathorized it but I still can not create playlists.

  • Anyone know how I can transfer my playlist from iphone to Itunes on my laptop. Computer had crashed. I am unable to export. I had backed up songs to icloud which are now on my laptop however without the original playlists folders?

Anyone know if I can transfer my playlist from iphone to Itunes on my laptop.
I am not keen to sync my iphone to my new laptop in case it wipes out my playlist.
My Computer had crashed so I am unable to export a playlist.
I had backed up songs to icloud which are now on my laptop however without the original playlists folders?
    Any suggestions?

    Hello CDA ENT
I would turn off the automatic syncing so that way you can see what is on your iPhone. From there, you should be able to see what is on your iPhone and then can export out the playlists and then import them back to your library. I would also recommend backing up your iPhone before going through with this process. To export a playlist, have it highlighted then go to File > Library > Export Playlist…

Open iTunes Preferences and select the Devices tab. Select the option to prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically.

  • How can I use home sharing between our iphones (create playlists from both accounts at once)

How can I use home sharing between our iphones, so that we can create playlists with songs from both of our libraries?  We share a Macbook Pro (separate accounts) and each have the new iphone, but when I have my iphone and try to create a new playlist, I can only grab songs from one account.  Is there a way to create a playlist using both accounts since we are sharing?
Does it have to be created within iTunes first on our Mac?

The short answer: because Home Sharing isn't designed for sharing apps, and apps aren't designed to be shared.
The longer answer:  Think of it like this...
You download some music in iTunes.  With Home Sharing, another user can listen to it by streaming it over the network.  But the data itself is on your computer.  If you turn off the computer or take it off the network, the other user can't access it.
But if you send another user the app, they aren't just streaming the data- they installed it on their iOS device.  Because they weren't the one that purchased it, such a transfer could easily be considered "piracy" or "stealing," and nobody likes that (least of all, Apple).
When iTunes sees this app, it obviously recognized it, as if saying, "Hey, how did you get this app on your device, if I have no record of you purchasing/downloading it from the iTunes store?"

  • Can't create playlist from my iPhone menus

I recently updated to iTunes 11.0.4. I'm running Mac OS X 10.7.5. When I plug my iPhone into my Macbook Air to sync the phone, the View Options for Music won't function. I also can't sort by artist, song, genre, etc. It's stuck on Date Added. As a result, I can't easily select songs with which to create a playlist. Nor do the New - Playlist and New - Playlist from Selection menu options work. They are greyed out (as is everything under the New menu). Dies anyone know what's going on with this?

It works exactly the same as it always has...

  • Transfer Playlist from iPhone 4 to Windows computer iTunes

I often edit/create playlists on my phone. Is there a way to transfer your playlists from your iphone to itunes on the computer? I have tried syncing, .xml file export/import, dragging and dropping - nothing works. Sync only copies iTunes to phone, not reverse. .xml file export / import imports the name of playlist, but no songs, and dragging and dropping did nothing at all (this was a shot in the dark). PLEASE HELP!

  • Recreate playlist from iPhone

I recently did a clean install of Windows, which also whiped out my iTunes playlists. I currnetly have playlists on my iPhone, which are made from songs I have on my computer. How do I port these playlists to my computer? I've tried dragging the playlists in iTunes from my iPhone to the "playlists" section, but no luck. I also can't highlight all the songs from the playlist and drag them into a new playlist, presumably becuase iTunes can't figure out where those files are located, even though they are in fact on my computer.
I feel like iTunes should be able to figure out that those files are the same and I should be able to create a computer playlist from them. Any ideas?

I've used TouchCopy in the past, but I'm guessing the way it works is to copy the files across and build the playlist at the same time. I wrote the SyncStats script for another user who wanted to recover ratings and playlists from their iPod that they and been manually managing and they had rebuilt their library so the track IDs in the library had no connection to the track IDs on the device. My script creates a signature for each track in the library and then works through the tracks on the device copying data across when there is a matching signature. I'm hopeful I can do the same with the playlist data but I might need a few days to find time to work on it.

  • Synching playlist from iphone back to computer

I lost my hard drive a couple of weeks ago, my library (thankfully) was on a networked external drive, so the tunes are still there. However since iTunes was on the partition that crashed, I had to do a full reinstall. My playlist no longer shows up - so my questions are:
    1) Is there a "backup" of my playlist in iTunes - if so, how do I access it?
    2) Will iTunes let me "reinstall" my playlist from my iPhone?
    3) Should I just re-create the playlist by cross-referencing it from my phone?
Thanks for reading & thanks for replying.

    1) Is there a "backup" of my playlist in iTunes - if so, how do I access it?
    I don't believe so.
    2) Will iTunes let me "reinstall" my playlist from my iPhone?
    No to this one.
    3) Should I just re-create the playlist by cross-referencing it from my phone?
Sounds like a good and what I believe is your only option.

  • Creating Playlists for iPhone

I used to be able to create a new playlist on my iPhone by highlighting my iPhone in the Devices column and then clicking the + button. The untitled playlist would then show up among the playlists on my iPhone for naming. Now when I click on the + button the new Playlist is added to my ITunes playlists instead of the playlists on my iPhone. I tried to see if this was something set in Preferences but it's not. I don't know if this is something new in Lion or in the latest version of iTunes. I know that it's annoying.

Another point in addition to my question. I used to be able to pick songs on my iPhone and then choose "New Playlist from Selection" to create a new playlist on my phone but now that option is grayed out as not available.

  • ITunes 8.1 wiped my playlists from iPhone

So i only noticed this today..
Last night i upgraded to 8.1 iTunes.. did a sync with my iPhone... went to sleep.
When i left work for lunch this afternoon, i went to plug my iPhone into my car stero dock to play some songs.. and all of my playlists were gone. The music is still on the iPhone... just not in playlists.
Im assuming that iTunes did not delete the playlists from my actual iTunes, app and all Ill have to do when I get home is plug the iPhone in, run iTunes, and recheck all of the playlists I had and sync it back up.
Has anyone else had this happen?

    Ok this is really weird....
2 hours later.. i just check my iPhone... and now all my playlists are back/

  • How do I get my music and playlists from iphone to newly authorised computer (some songs are missing)

I have authorised a new comuter
when I plug in my iphone, not all the songs in the iphone show up in the music library on the computer - nor my playlists
How do I get all my songs and playlists from my iphone to my newly authorised computer?

The iphone is not a storage/backup device.  The sync is one way - computer to iphone. The only ex eption is itunes purchases: File>Deviecs>Transfer Purchases
Copy everything from your old computer or your backup cop of your old computer.
