Create proofing profile that mimics Black & White Brick settings?

Hi. I've been doing a lot of work with grayscale recently. As a means of previewing what Images might look like converted to grayscale, I have turned on "On-Screen Proofing" and selected one of the "Generic Gray" profiles. With this set-up, every Image I view in the Viewer shows in (generic) grayscale (Browser view shows them "normally").
The work I'm doing involves grayscale changes that are not generic. Is there any way to create a profile that mimics the settings in Aperture's Black & White Brick? (E.g.: -1% red, -1% green, 100% blue?)
(Yes, I can dupe the Images, apply the adjustment in batch as a saved effect (or stamp), and then view them, but then I end up good dupes and bad dupes and a good chance of disturbing the universe (or at least my Library organization). For this particular use, proofing seems easier to do, and much less likely to leave a mess.)

From a glance, one of the first things I wonder is if you might be interested in setting something up with multiple Levels Bricks. I'm not sure ( ), but I think the single-channel Levels Bricks affect complementary colors at once (red/cyan; green/magenta; yellow/blue). Create a PDF that mimics the flyer

I want to create a PDF that you can "flip through." I've seen it done before, but I'm not sure how to do it. I am creating a flyer and I want to send it electronically, but I want the readers to be able to still flip through the flyer as they would if it were in print. The way I have seen it done is there are arrows under the flyer and they click the forward arrow and the screen makes the image look like it's opening and then it displays the inside...same thing when they move to the back cover.
Anyone know how I can accomplish this?

Black & White Brick

When you use the B&W adjustment in Aperture a bunch of stuff happens in behind the scenes (which is a question for another time) and then you get the B&W brick.
The brick has three sliders Red, Green and Blue which adjust the sensitivity of the image to those colors. So if I have an image of a red cloth and I set the red slider to 0% the cloth is virtually black, if I set it to 100% the cloth is very light. OK no problems there, the slider can be used to mimic filters and or film sensitivity.
But what does the negative settings mean? How do you have 'negative' light transmission. If a perfect red filter blocks all red light shouldn't that be represented as 0? Or do the negative numbers mean something in digital image manipulation?

Any way to create a form that allows users to create profiles that can be viewed by other users?

I'm working on a social media site, and I would like to give users the ability to create simple profiles that can be viewed by other users. Is there any way I can do this in Muse CC? Any good resource websites with code I can embed?

Muse form widgets can only email the form submission data to a specified email address for non-BC hosting at this time. For BC with webCommerce plan and above, this should be possible with the help of webApps however, that is an advanced topic and would require some knowledge of CMS and HTML to implement <http://helpx.adobe.com/business-catalyst/partner/web-apps.html>.
Also this will not be possible with Muse on its own as Muse outputs static pages only and what you are looking for requires backend technology to work (that BC offers).

How make a slideshow that mimics a photo album (book)

For the past year I've been using FCE to make simple slideshows and I want to attempt something a bit more difficult now (but not too hard <grin>).
I want to create a slideshow that mimics looking through a photo album. On each page of the "book" you would see some number of photos, then the page would turn. Does this seem like a good learning project?
I can visualize what I want, but there are some things I can't figure out how to accomplish.
1. How can I create a "book cover" and have it open. Book covers open stiffly, so a page peel effect isn't quite the right thing.
2. For the "pages", I want photos on a background that looks like paper. Then the background needs to turn - not just the individual photos. How could I make a background? Oh, and some of those "photos" will be video clips. Does that make any difference?
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Pointers to applicable tutorials are especially welcome.

Try this workflow:
In Photoshop, create a template document with a scanned paper texture on background. Start with a mid size document like 1066 X 800 (it fits 4:3 aspect ratio) pixels frame size. Add scaled down photos on layers to compose the presentation on the page itself. You can event add some black paper corners on each photo. Flatten the PSD document and save it as PICT or PNG. Repeat this process for each desired page of your slide show and create a cover for the album.
Import all these documents in FCE and edit your stills in timeline with correct duration. Add a simple page peel transition(with small curl value) or a horizontal barn door transition at each edit, and voilà.

Why does slideshow created in Elements v12 display black

A slideshow created in PSE v11 plays back correctly on my Windows 8 computer, but running a slideshow in PSE v12 on the same computer in the same session displays the slides as black. There was a suggestion that the photos are at too high a resolution to playback, but I am using the same photos. I even created a slideshow with only three images that were about 1 meg in size each -- same problem. There is no error message and the audio does play.
I imported into the Organizer (PSE 12) three different video formats: wmv, mp4, and m2ts. All three played correctly. It is the slideshow created with PSE that displays black. What needs to be updated? What steps can I do to correct the problem?

I think the difficulty is that because it doesn't affect everyone they can't recreate it and so can't fix it*. If you want to report it the place to report bugs is at http://feedback.photoshop.com (this is a user-to-user forum so Adobe won't see it).
* Mind you with a release cycle of only twelve months it's very rare to see any updates other than to Camera RAW.

Black & White Apple Logo Lockup w/2.02

Hello all,
Eagerly updated from 2.00 to 2.02 yesterday in anticipation of never seeing the ATV locked up again with that darn Black & White Apple logo.
Came back from dinner this evening, the TV was off but the ATV had been left on playing music. Turned on the TV and got a few seconds of the ATV screen and then WHAM! that blasted Black & White logo again with the unit locked up. No bloop sounds or nothing from it.
I know this was discussed quite a lot months ago when discussing 2.0. Did not they not include this major problem in the bug fixes for 2.02?

Yes, it's entirely possible, in general though there are other devices which have problems with HDMI so it's not just an  issue.
Does this auto wake up feature actually work for anybody out there? I tried it with mine and the ATV stays asleep when I switch to that HDMI input on my TV.
Doesn't do it for me either, but quite a few have reported that this is so for them, I've also seen threads from some who's tv changes to the HDMI channel when the tv is activated. It could well be a symptom of an issue though if you take the view from your first point.

It depends on your printer and the application you are using.
In some applications you can choose color vs. greyscale/black&white when you do File > Print. PowerPoint is one example of an application that allows this choice.
Otherwise, you can usually select greyscale at the time you print the document. Do File > Print. In the resulting dialog box, there should be an item called Copies & Pages (in Word and other applications) or Preview (in Preview). Click it. In the resulting list, you should then see an option called Printer Features. Click it. Then you should see an option called Printout Mode. Usually one of the modes is Greyscale or Black & White. Select it. Then Print.
This can also depend on your printer. Exactly what make/model printer are you using? And what kind of document are you trying to print (Word, PPT, JPEG, etc)?

I was not able to find profile manager on my employer's installation of 10.6 Server. Is this only a feature of 10.7/10.8 server?

10.6 server does not have profile manager, profile manager is only available in 10/7 and 10.8 server
for 10.6 server you'll need to use wgm and server admin

Black & White quartz filter behaves oddly when creating PDFs

I think the Black and White Quartz Filter should print all colours and greys as Black. But pale colours and light greys are not printed at all, presumably they are 'White'. Printing all colours as Black is a useful property when printing CAD drawings, for instance.
I tried to create my own qfilter to do the job, which involves using a 'Bilevel' Intermediate Transform cranked to the max, but the ColorSync utility wouldn't let me rename it anything but 'Untitled'. Smells like a permissions problem?
I eventually duplicated the Black & White qfilter, which was automatically named 'Black & White Copy'. I was able to edit the actions, but not it's name. Changing the file's name by hand wouldn't change it in the ColorSync Utility.
Printers available for testing were an HP LaserJet 2100TN, and an EPSON Stylus Color 1160.

My issue is
I am currently doing selenium webdriver automation in linux for a device. There are 50 devices of same kind and framework will pickup a device depending on availability. I need to by pass unsigned ssl pages. I am using firefox 14.
I have implemented following but it is not consistent.
everytime a device is chosen
adds cer of device to the cert file in firefox profile
but I am getting sec_error_bad_signature very frequently.
So I started recreating cert [delete and create if by opening firefox] file for every run.
Now this is posing a problem if multiple devices are run at the same time. Hence I want to create separate firefox profile

Not that I have ever found. And at one time I had over 60 Profiles, but after I hit 20 Profiles listed in the profiles.ini file the launch time for Firefox became noticeably longer on WinXP. With remote Profiles, not listed in the profiles.ini file and launched strictly from command line there was no impact on launch time.
How or if that relates to Mac OSX is beyond my knowledge, never owned used a Mac.

I had to restore my computer to a previous restore point. When I tried opening firefox 4.0, nothing happened. Frustrated, I tried removing the program, but ran into the same problem: nothing happened. I went to Processes in Windows Task Manager, and firefox.exe was not running. Tried using the suggestions to create another profile, and entering the command into run brought up an error saying that firefox has crashed.

If you mean by "background" the blank work area that presents when you open the Editor, then right click on it and reset to white.

Black & White Adjustment that retains same Greyscale values (when in Color)

I noticed that when I apply a simple Black&White Adjustment layer to my colored layers, the 'Greyscale values' either via LAB sliders /HSb brightness changes drastically.:

I've tried the Hue/Saturation & Black&White adjustment layers with default settings. Can someone tell me a quick B&W workaround conversion that adheres as close as possible to sliders values when the adjustment layer is off? I used it for digital coloring to check my composition 'values' regularly, so complex grayscale conversions would be less preferable. Also, I do not need it to be perfect to human vision, just hopefully adhere roughly to the 'L' or 'B' slider values when the B&W adjustment is turned on/off

I believe the tone shift to which you are referring is caused by the B&W adjustment layer as demonstrated here. This is the basic file (Adobe RGB):
Add a duplicate layer and change its Blending Mode to Luminosity. The colors will not change. Then add a Black & White Adjustment Layer and it will modify the resultant color like this:
For a clearer comparison, the image below shows the beginning image with the altered luminosity of the B&W Adjustment layer in the center circle
(Notice Clipping Mask)
So, the default setting of the sliders that appear in the B&W drop-down menu must be adjusted so that, at the start, this Adjustment layer of the Luminosity does not alter the color. To do that, I had to change the settings to:
Reds     33
Yellows 90
Greens     60
Cyans     72
Blues     14
Magentas 46
You may save these settings as a Preset. so that they do not require resetting each time. The practical application of this is that it allows you to lighten and darken specific colors in a scene without resorting to selections. I have found this to be most useful in landscape images. (I overdid the changes in the sample below for demonstration purposes only.)
