"Create Quick Event" in Calendar - specify location

I'm adding a list of events from a spreadsheet into Calendar. I can copy the spreadsheet text then paste it into "Create Quick Event" in Calendar, which does a pretty good job of guessing what I'm talking about.
The problem I have is that it seems to be impossible to get the location to be specified - meaning I'll have to go into each event and manually edit Each attempt (see below) results in the locations text being added onto the Event's title.
I've tried:
In X
At X
Location X
Location: X
(X)
(X, followed by the postcode/ZIP code)
Thanks !

I don't know that it can be turned off, and I don't even use Apple's Calendar much (as a BusyCal user), but you might find it's useful if you learn to use it as intended. That box is pretty smart if you mention the date and location in the box before hitting enter.
Just type the date, time, and place in that "title" box:
"Birthday party Friday 8:00 PM at Joe's Place"
That pops up an event with a start date of the next Friday (e.g., 10/05/2012 today in the US), start time of 8:00 PM, and "Joe's Place" in the location. It strips out the date and time before creating the event title that it pops up; it leaves the location in the title, but the title comes up selected so you can edit it before confirming the event with the "Done" button.
The event is entered in the default calendar, but you can select any calendar by holding down the "+" button a second or two. There may be a way to do it with the menu or the keyboard command-n shortcut, but I haven't found it; you can select another calendar on the popup before hitting the "Done" button.

  • Issues create quick events with GMT timezone in Calendar.

    Hi All,
I have the following issue. I live The Netherlands but for my work I work with the UK. As they are in GMT and I am in CET I regularly create an event with GMT time in mind.
I also use Quick Events a lot. So I click on create quick event and I a type i.e. blah blah 9PM GMT. So far so good. So in this case 9PM GMT is 10PM CET.
However and I am not sure of this, but pretty sure, after the move to summertime the GMT moves two hours ahead. So the event at 9PM GMT now shows as 11PM CET.
Is anybody else having this issue?

Thank for your input. I, however, can't totally agree
your opinions. They're not opinions. They're facts, backed partially by the code I already posted, and more by code I've been dealing with for a couple of years.
Although I can parse the date & time data by using
the dateFormat as what you describe, I believe one
Java API class shall take care it.I don't know what you mean by this, but Calendar is not the appropriate class here.
The reason I want to preserve the user's time zone is
for user respective. I can ingore the time zone and
present the date data with the server machine time
zone configuration. This approach is not good for a
user. Some in Europe, for example, wouldn't want to
the time in the Pacific time zone format. You're not understanding what I'm saying.
The user tells you his TZ. He has to at some point, else you can't support TZ-specific input and display. You save that with the user profile, not with each date.
So I register with your site, and I tell you my TZ is GMT-8 (US/Los Angeles).
Later, you want to record what time something happens. You only need to look at what time it is on the server. You store that Timestamp. When it's time to display that to me--like to display the time I posted a message--you get the timestamp from the DB, and then you format it with a DateFormat whose TZ has been set to "US/Los Angeles" or "PST" or something. It will be displayed correctly.
If you want to ask me what time something happened, and you're assuming I'll be entering it in my local time, then you take the string I provide--say "2006-04-09 11:04"--then you parse that with a DF that has its TZ set to "PST" or whatever. What you save to the DB is a Timestamp created from the Date you got from the parse().
By storing a Date or Timestamp, you're not losing TZ information. You're storing the point in time at which something happened, later, when you're ready to display that, you convert that point in time to the relevant TZ. No information is lost.

  • Create quick event fails to recognize date and time

When I use "Create Quick Event" and enter "June 29 9am debate", iCal creates an event today, now, named "June 29 9am debate". I have tried different variations like "29th of June at 9am" etc. but all failed - I always get an event today, now.
I am pretty sure Create Quick Event used to extract date and time from the box: it created an event named "Debate" on the date of June 29, starting at 9am, lasting one hour - what could be the reason it doesn't work any longer? And more importantly, how could I get back the old behavior?
    Thanks!

It is not prerly connected to the network
Make sure location is set correctly
DNS should be set to auto (settings - general - network)
    If on wifi try ethernet
Ensure rputer has port 123 open (refer to manual if unsure)

  • Create quick event

iCal doesn't seem to be working very well with Lion!
When I try and add a quick event, I type in the event, it then opens the edit form, which defaults to today's date and as an all-day event.  When I go to change the event to the appropriate day, and the appropriate time, and set the calendar, and then click on done, it adds the event to today's date and makes it all day again!!  This is doing this consistently.  The only way I can seem to get it to the right day is to drag the event to the correct day (almost impossible if it is for months from now) and then re-edit it and put in the correct times again!
I have to say Lion is probably one of the buggiest OS upgrades that I have been through, and I have been using Macs for 25 years!!

I don't know that it can be turned off, and I don't even use Apple's Calendar much (as a BusyCal user), but you might find it's useful if you learn to use it as intended. That box is pretty smart if you mention the date and location in the box before hitting enter.

  • Create Repeating Event in Calendar

I work rotating shifts and can’t figure out how to enter my schedule on my Touch with the current Calendar application.
With my palm-top computer I simply created events titled: Day1, Day2, Day3, Mid1, Mid2, & Mid3. Each of these events were created as repeating events — repeating daily every twelfth day. Then I created Off1, Off2, & Off3 as repeating events — repeating every 6th day.
Or another example would be Mother’s Day. It would be nice to be able to create an event that repeats monthly every 12mo (2nd Sunday of every 12th month).
Is there any way to do something similar that I’m overlooking?
    Any assistance would be appreciated.
I'd also like to be able to synchronize with my Google calendar.

  • I am unable to create any event in calendars..

whenever i try to create an event in my calendar the following message pops up..
"Only the calendar administrator and any delegates with permission can make changes to read-only calendars. To make changes to the calendar, contact the calendar administrator."
how do I find calendar administrator..???
what does this mean and what change should I make....??

Do you have your calendar selected in the sidebar. It sounds like you have a subscribed calendar selected. When you create an event, it tries to use the selected calendar.
You can set a default calendar in the preferences, but that doesn't override the selected calendar, I don't think.

  • Can you please help me in creating a stored procedure which can create a tablesapce in a specified location ?

    Hello ...
Can you please help me in writing a procedure which can create tablespace. like i have a requirement that
through sql query i need to get the location of where the data file of the newly created tablespace need to be stored.
I need to store the location of the datafiles in a variable and i need to use that variable for specifying the location of the data file in newly created data file.
please help me writing this procedure.....
    Regards vinay raj.
    Thanks in advance..

    select distinct substr(file_name,1,instr(file_name,'/',-1)) from dba_data_files;
Run this in a few of your databases and see how often you ONLY get one row returned.
Normally there is no "default" file system for data files (read about the DB_CREATE_FILE_DEST parameter and Oracle Managed Files for the exception to that).
You could pick the same file system as an existing tablespace, but even then there is no guarantee that the file system has sufficient space for the new tablespace - you have to check that OUTSIDE the database.
Given the query at the top it is pretty simple to create a SQL script that generates a SQL script.  This can be run in any database via sqlplus, and then the generated script can be edited as needed and run immediately, under human control, avoiding surprises.
    set echo off
    set feedback off
    set heading off
    set lines 100
    spool myts.sql
select distinct 'create tablespace MYTS DATAFILE '''||substr(file_name,1,instr(file_name,'/',-1))||'myts01.dbf'' size 40M ONLINE;' stmt
    from dba_data_files;
    spool off
For example, if you find there are multiple filesystems to choose from, run this then delete the filesystems you don't want from the generated script.  If you find there is only one file system but it is too full, work with your SA or storage to to add space or allocate a new file system, then modify the generated script accordingly.
This example assumes a traditional file system, on a UNIX-style OS, not using Oracle-Managed files.  ASM or RAW will have a different format for the data file location, of course.

  • Creating new event in iCal from BBEdit data window.  Calendar number fails.

When I try to create a new event in iCal I am getting the error "The variable theCalendarNumber is not defined." even though theCalendarNumber is supposed to be set in the preceding line. Does this have anything to do with embedding the tell application "iCal" within the tell application "BBEdit 6.5" loop?
Before this error I was getting a NSContainerSpecifierError error. I think that was because I was trying to specify the calendar as a string instead of a number as required by Panther OS.

    end tell
set AppleScript's text item delimiters to old_delims
    end repeat
    end tell
    tell application "iCal"
    reload calendars
    end tell

You have a couple of issues here.
    First, the line:
set theCalendarNumber to (first calendar whose title is theChoice)
    However, theChoice is defined at:
set theChoice to (choose from list iCalendars with prompt "Choose the Calendar to use" OK button name "Choose" without multiple selections allowed and empty selection allowed)
Since you're allowing multiple selections, theChoice will be a list.
You can't get 'first calendar whose title is' a list. You will need to either permit single selections only, or extract the calendar name from the selected items (maybe iterating through them if you want to add the event to multiple calendars).
Once you address that, the line:
set theEvent to make new event at end of events of theCalendarNumber...
also won't work because theCalendarNumber will be the name of a calendar, so this command tries to set the event to the end of events of a string. Instead you need to ask for the named calendar, like:
set theEvent to make new event at end of events of calendar theCalendarNumber
    Then you should be set.

  • How can I reserve resources or rooms when creating an event in the Calendar (Exchange)?

On our Exchange server we have configured a number of conference rooms and other resources that users can book/reserve through Outlook when creating events.  When I create an event in the iPhone on my Exchange calendar, if I add a location the option does not exist to book rooms/resources (even if I add in the resource word-for-word as it exists on Exchange server). I am also unable to book it if I invite the "Contact," if I may call it that, from our Global Address List.   Does this capability exist in the iPhone?

I can't seem to do this successfully. I use the GAL to select the room, but when I send out the meeting I immediately get an automated response back that the delivery failed. I heard this may be because the iPhone OS does not distinguish between a normal attendee and a resource. Yet you seem to have it working. What version of Exchange are you using. Is it on Mac or PC?  We are about to upgrade from Exchange 2003 to 2010, maybe that will help solve this?
Also, (this may just be semantics) on the iPhone under "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" the Exchange configuration is set to "on" to sync calendars. Is this the same as having the Exchange calendar "set as the default calendar" mentioned above?

  • When a third party program creates a new Google calendar event using a http link I cannot click the save button in Firefox 9.01 or 10b2.

I use a TV listings program called DigiGuide. This has a script that opens a new Google Calendar event page in my browser for a specified TV program with all fields already completed. I then just have to click the SAVE button on the Google Calendar site to save the event - but since updating to 9.01 from 8.xx this button and others (Discard, Search) has no effect, although the cursor changes when over the button as if it recognised a link. Opening the same page in Chrome works fine. I have also noticed that Calendar's other buttons (e.g. next/previous period) can stop working on the main Calendar page, which I have as a pinned tab - in this event navigating away from Calendar and back again regains that functionality. The issue persists in Firefox 10b2.

Further investigation reveals this only happens when the event is created from within WP native calendar app and disappears when I make an edit to the event in any other calendar client including Google web. So a more appropriate description of the problem would be:
"Native calendar app keeps subtracting 1h off a Google calendar event on EVERY edit"
Create an event at 2013/07/17 15:00 in WP native calendar app. Result: Event shows as 2013/07/17 15:00 in the calendar app for a few seconds, then updates itself to 2013/07/17 14:00.
Edit the event title and save in WP native calendar app. Event time moves by -1h again to 2013/07/17 13:00.
Edit the event title in Google web calendar.
Subsequent edits in WP native calendar do not mess up the time any longer. If I fix the time to what I originally intended (2013/07/17 15:00) in WP native calendar app, it stays there and shows correctly in all previously mentioned calendar viewers.
I just learned that Lumia 925 was released with GDR2 update pre-installed. This update is only now being made generally available. If the issue is secific to the CalDAV implementation in GDR2 rather than specific to my phone only, this would make a lot of angry people. I hope I'm wrong on this though as it's an extremely frustrating problem.

  • How do I get events and changes created on my IOS Calendar to show up on iCal using iCloud?

Using iCloud I can sync my events from iCal right to my IPod Touch. This is great except for the fact that I rarely create events on iCal. I usually create events using the Calendar app on my IPod Touch because I always have it handy and I feel that has a much more intuitive UI. I was really excited about iCloud being able to sync my events from my IPod to iCal but it doesn't seem to be working. When I create events on iCal they sync to my Calendar right away, but when I create an event on my IPod it doesn't show up on iCal. The same is true for changes made on my IPod to events synced from iCal. the changes don't show up in iCal at all. HELP PLEASE!

The operating system should read 10.8 - sorry...

  • How do I view who created an event in my I Calendar?

In June of 2013 I was given an Apple Mac Book as a Father's Day present from my wife.  She set the computer up herself and synched our I Cloud calendars together.  I had an Apple ID prior to this.  As far as I know we don't share an I Cloud Account.
Due to unforseen circumstances in our marriage I had to purse a Restraining Order.  Since that restrianing order, my Verizon Online Account was compromised on two occasions and the Verizon Back Up Assistant Application was Downloaded to an unknown Computer.  Additionally my Optimum Online Email Account was compromised on two occasions and the password was changed.
On January 29th, 2014 I received a notification that my estragned wife's Apple ID created an event in my I Calendar.  I am not sure how she was able to accomplish this because I purposely changed my Apple ID in December of 2013 to prevent this from happening.  So I assumed our calendars were no longer synched anymore.
I then reported this to the local police department for her violating the restraining order and they arrested me for falsifying a police report.  When they looked at my Macbook they were unable to tell who created the event.  While there I synched my calendar to my Iphone and we were able to view the event in that calendar.  However, it showed the event as being edited by me and not created by my wife's Apple ID. I dont recall editing this event.  I looked at several times and may have moved it to another calendar but I dont specifically remember.  This was their probable cause to arrest me and they assumed I purpsoely tried to have my wife arrested.
Is there any other way to retrieve who created the event on my Calendar from my computer or I Cloud Account?
Is there any way to retrieve the mesage I received in the notification center?  Is this stored anywhere on my computer?
When I changed my Apple ID wouldnt she have to get my permission to synch our calendars together?  Wouldnt one of us have to approve this via an email?
Can you send documentation on your company letterhead that I changed my Apple ID and the date it was changed?
My attorney is preparing a subpoena to submit to Apple.  What is the proper wording he should use in regards to getting the proper information to see who created the event in my I calendar?  Would it be for records pertaining to my I Cloud Account or Apple ID?  Is this information even recorded in the I Cloud account such Internet Protocoal Addresses?
    <E-mails Edited by Host>

Open the event, or create a new event. Under 'invitees' enter the email addresses and 'send'.

  • How can I disable the "location" pop-ups when entering a new event in Calendar?

When I add a new event in Calendar on my computer (Macbook using Yosemite) and then start to type an address or place in the location field, a pop-up list of locations appears from which I can choose.  If I choose one of the listed locations, then a map appears (which I don't want) along with travel times, etc.  I want to disable this feature.  Seems the only way I can ignore this pop-up list is to hit the tab button as soon as I have finished typing.  This doesn't occur on my iphone or iPad (I can just click "done" and ignore the list).  I really wish I could disable this feature!

The registration screen should only appear after every 5 launches.
If you register FCE it will no longer appear assuming it is on the same computer.
