Create real time disk image

Is it possible to create a Labview RT disk image without the target?
My test station is separate from my development station. The test station has little software installed. It has the bare minimum for the RTAD utility to run. No LabVIEW is installed.
I have used the "Replication and Deployment Utility"
But, it appears the only way to use this utility is if you already have a functional deployment, create a disk image of that deployment, and then re-image other devices with the disk image.
I can't find any tool that allows me to create a disk image without first having a deployed system already on a disk.
I know that might sound silly "creating a disk image without a disk"
But, I don't see how this is really much different than any other embedded system and having a .hex file. I can program just about any eeprom with a .hex file using tons of different tools, and my embedded system will boot reading the eeprom.
Why is it that I can't create a single file RT build in my project explorer and then use a tool to program the hard drive on my target?

Not exactly sure if this is what you are looking for, but it's worth taking a look

  • Question about creating a bootable disk image in Leopard.

I have a Powerbook G4 that originally came with OS9, I upgraded to Tiger and recently upgraded to Leopard. The computer is running great but if it should go down what are my bootable options?
    1) Boot from the install disk set then load tiger upgrade then load Leopard upgrade? then reload all my programs back on the G4?
    2) Can I create a bootable disk image and save it on an external hard drive and then boot and reload everything at once? ( I guess by asking this question I really don't understand what the full scope of a bootable disk image is?) can someone explain...
Which option is better? I am also running __time machine__... what is the safest and easiest way to use time machine to get my software back together after I get the operating system up and running.
    Thanks for the advice

Your best alternative is to create a bootable clone on an external Firewire drive.
How to Clone Using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
    2. Select the backup or destination volume from the left side list.
    3. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (journaled, if available) and click on the Erase button. This step can be skipped if the destination has already been freshly erased.
    4. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
    5. Select the backup or destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    6. Select the startup or source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
    7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Of course you can use other software for cloning and backup:
    Backup Software Recommendations
My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    1. Retrospect Desktop (Commercial - not yet universal binary)
    2. Synchronize! Pro X (Commercial)
    3. Synk (Backup, Standard, or Pro)
    4. Deja Vu (Shareware)
    5. PsynchX 2.1.1 and RsyncX 2.1 (Freeware)
    6. Carbon Copy Cloner (Freeware - 3.0 is a Universal Binary)
    7. SuperDuper! (Commercial)
    8. Intego Personal Backup (Commercial)
    9. Data Backup (Commercial)
For use with Leopard always be sure you use a version of the software that is compatible with Leopard.

  • Unable to create an encrypted disk image in Lion

disk utility gives the error Unable to create "Volume.dmg." (error - 60008) when creating an encrypted disk image. I am using the following steps:
        1.    Open disk utility
        2.    Select the disk (internal or external) to create the image on
        3.    Select File>New>Blank Disk Image…
        4.    Save As: 'Volume'
        5.    Name: Volume
        6.    Size: 50GB
        7.    Format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
        8.    Encryption: 128-bit AES encryption
        9.    Image Format: read/write disk image
        10.    Click the Create button
        11.    Password dialog appears
        12.    When I enter a password the dialog closes after entering only a few characters i.e. before I've finished typing, and the following error message displays:
    Unable to create "Volume.dmg." (error - 60008)
I have previously, successfully, created encrypted disk images in Snow Leopard, and I don't know why I can't in Lion
    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks for this Thomas.
I've tried naming the image differently, but still received the error, I did however try different permutations for the password.
The error seems to happen if I use a purely numerical password string and occurs on input of the 10th numerical character, if I start with numerical character but use an alpha before the 9th number I can continue and create a password, and I can create a password  if I start with an alpha and switch to numerals after the first alpha character, purely alphabetical passwords are fine too.
It seems that Lion doesn't like purely numerical passwords greater than 9 characters, whereas Snow Leopard wasn't so fussy. Seems it's a bit of a bug.
    Thanks for your help

  • Unable to create an encrypted disk image with Disk Utility

    Hi:
With our upgrade to Lion a few weeks ago, we're now unable to create an encrypted disk image of any type using Disk Utility any more. This problem occurs on 3 different machines, and is reproducible whether one is using an internal HD or an external FW HD. We can successfully create nonencrypted disk images.
This is a duplicate post with all the details here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18469359#18469359
We haven't had any luck with a solution trying various permissions fixes as helpfully suggested by other readers in response to the error message # (-60008 error), so I'm hoping that someone else has run across a solution from the encrypted disk image perspective and that this tag line will generate some help.
    Thank you!

  • Creating an Encrypted Disk Image on an External (USB) Drive

I have an external 600 GB drive (2x 300 GB SATA 3.5" disks in a Thecus N2050 RAID0 external enclosure connected to iMac by USB2) onto which I would like to backup a large amount of data (500 GB).
I store this external drive away from my home (in the office) and since I cannot guarantee physically locking away the drive I would like to logically lock the drive by placing all the backup data into an encrypted disk image created on that volume.
I have tried creating an encrypted disk image on my USB volume in Disk Utility (Apple's instructions here) but I experience a number of issues not documented in the Apple article:
    1) I am not presented with a drop-down option for the size of the disk image.
    2) When I go ahead and try to creat the image I am told that the creation was impossible "file or folder does not exist".
Is it possible to create disk images on USB volumes (I cannot create such a large disk image on my iMac HDD as I do not have sufficient space).
    thanks in advance
    Raf

I realised that in Disk Utility you must not have any of your mounted drives highlighted in the left hand pane.

  • Creating a mp3 disk image with disk utility

    Hi,
I'd like to create a mp3 disk image with disk utility. In the end I would like to have a mp3 disk that plays in various stero system and macs.
But I want to add some additional files: a png file for a nice folder background of the dmg, a special image for the dmg, and some text files relating to the mp3s.
Is this possible at all? Is there something I have to observe creating the dmg?
    Thanx for your help

Is this possible at all? Is there something I have to observe creating the dmg?
You need to know which file systems your "various stereo systems" understand. The default file system created on a diskimage when burning is a hybrid file system- HFS+, ISO-9660 with Rock Ridge, and Joliet with Rock Ridge.

  • Problems with Creating Real-Time InfoCube in BI 7.0

    Hello, Everybody,
I try to create Real-Time cube for BW-BPS planning, but when i want to insert a key figure into real-time info cube i get error:
<i><b>Short dump has not been completely stored(too big)</b></i>
    <i><b>Exception condition "Node_related_missing" raised.</b></i>
    Could You help me?
    Thanks in advance,
    Best Regards,
    Arunas Stonys

    Hi Arunas,
I think you are not on SP10. you may need to implement the SP10 or advance correction as in this note:
Note 968097 - Error in BI metadata maintenance (InfoCube, MultiProvider)
    Symptom
Note that the attached corrections cause follow-up errors. You must also implement the corrections from Note 971918.
You are in the maintenance dialog for an InfoCube or a MultiProvider. When you enter new key figures in this provider, a program termination occurs with message "NODE_RELATED_MISSING" in class CL_RSO_DATA_TREE.
This problem occurs because the InfoProvider does not contain a unit dimension yet and the system tries to insert the relevant unit into the unit dimension (that does not exist).
    Other terms
    Transaction RSA1, RSDCUBE, RSDMPRO
    Reason and Prerequisites
This problem is caused by a program error.
    Solution
    SAP NetWeaver 2004s BI
Import Support Package 10 for SAP NetWeaver 2004s BI (BI Patch 10 or SAPKW70010) into your BI system. The Support Package is available once Note 0914304 "SAPBINews BI 7.0 Support Package 10", which describes this Support Package in more detail, has been released for customers.
In urgent cases, you can implement the correction instructions.
To provide information in advance, the note(s) mentioned above may already be available before the Support Package(s) is/are released. In this case, the short text of the note still contains the words "Preliminary version".
    Thanks,

  • How Do I Create a Sparse Disk Image?

I'm having trouble creating a sparse disk image. The instructions I'm following are:
    +1. Open Applications->Utilities->Disk Utility.+
    +2. Select File->New...->Blank Disk Image.+
+3. Name it, set the size to what you'll need, set the encryption to AES-128, and set the format to sparse disk image.+
    - http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=257063
The problem for me is I do not see an option for "sparse disk image." The only options I see for Image Format are:
    +read only+
    compressed
    read/write
    +DVD/CD master+
    Is there something I'm missing?

    Nevermind, found it.
Figured out there's a difference between pushing the New Image button in the toolbar vs. going to File > New > Blank Disk Image...

  • How can I create a bootable DISK IMAGE of my PB Internal Drive?

I would like to make a bootable image of my Hard Drive but without including any Free Space.
You see all I need on the image are the OSX and the programs, NOT the 60GB of Free Space. Disk Utility however wants to create a 80gb image which includes 60GB of Free Space.
I would like to use the Bootable image as a source image to use with the RESTORE function in Disk Utility.
    Regards

You'll need a second machine or an external HDD with Mac OS X installed on it.
For purposes of this procedure I'll be calling your machine the 'source' and the second machine or your external HDD the 'target'.
First either boot the source into target mode by holding down the 'T' key while it boots. Once you see the FireWire icon on the screen, let go of the 'T' key and plug the source into the target. If you're going with the external HDD route, boot your source of off your external HDD.
Now, select the drive of your source machine, and hit Apple-I to bring up the information pane. Down at the bottom (in the permissions area) you'll see a check box labeled "Ignore ownership..." Uncheck that.
Open up Disk Utility. Select the source drive and run First Aid and Repair Permissions on it.
Now, select the File menu -> New -> New Disk Image from Folder. You're going to want to hit that big "New Image" button, but don't. Trust me. It'll only cause trouble for you down the road.
Select the source drive as the source. You can leave everything else the same and click "Image".
Select the target as the destination. Click Save.
Wait for a couple of hours (depending on how much stuff you have).
When it's done, select the Images menu -> Scan image for Restore.
Select the disk image you just made and click "Scan".
When that's done you have a restorable image. Just use the restore tab to restore it.
I've done this literally hundreds of times and it's worked every single time.

  • Problem creating an iDVD disk image

I am trying to create a disk image of an iDVD project which I can burn to an external DVD drive. I am using iDVD 5. I go to file, and select Save as Disk Image. The movie renders for several hours, but when it gets to Burn, nothing. Burn is selcted in the iDVD window and says: Current Operation: Writing, but the progress bar for Burn remains empty for hours until I cancel. iDVD can't be selected in the menu bar after Burn is selected in iDVD. If I go to Force Quit, it says "iDVD (not reponding)".
Can anyone tell me what the problem is?
    Thanks.
    Ken
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Well, I have my first movie. This being my first time I'm not sure if I can give anyone advice, but I was finally successful creating an image and then burning it to a DVD.
One piece of advice I am sure of. If this is your first time making a movie with iMovie and iDVD, do NOT start with a long movie as your first movie. Do a short movie and find out how things are supposed to work first. I did a long movie which caused a lot of confusion and frustration because I didn't have a successful experience first.
My movie is of a school show. I was finally successful when I deleted some numbers. Apparently the problem I posted was because my movie was too long for Best Performance. I did upgrade to iLife 6 in the process of figuring out what was wrong. I'm not sure if this is the reason, but I was able to get 72 minutes of video on my DVD with Best Performance (everything I've seen said the maximum is 60 minutes). The Status menu in Project Info of iDVD 6 says I have 72 minutes of video which takes up 3.9 GB of a 4.2 GB DVD. Once again, this being my first time, I'm not sure if this is because I'm using iLive 06.
One word of caution about iLive 06 (and I am speculating here). I think it is created to work optimally with the newly released Macs with the Intel processor. They run twice as fast as G4s. I found my iMovie and iDVD to be clunky when I edited after the upgrade. Many edits would have up to a five second pause before you got (what I call) the spinning beach ball and then the beach ball would spin for five to ten seconds before you could do the edit. I think I am going to move up my Mac upgrade schedule.
Thank you to those who gave me advice. It was frustrating because of the time involved, but I am amazed with what we are able to do with video today.

  • Trouble creating a small disk image with Disk Utility

When I try to create a disk image using Disk Utility the size option for 2.5MB is grayed out and I cannot override this by manually entering the size I want. Ideally, I would like to create a 500KB-1MB size image to store 1 or 2 files that I want encrypted. Thanks for any help.

Choose a filesystem which isn't journaled to get the 5MB option; if you want to create a 2.5MB image, specify Mac OS Standard or MS-DOS. Some disk formats have a minimum size.

  • Creating/Burning DVD Disk Images

I'm trying to backup a (commercial) language instruction DVD that my 2-year-old daughter uses (and scratches) often.
I ripped it to my hard drive with MacTheRipper and DVD Player is able to play the resulting VIDEO_TS folder. So, far, so good.
Now, I need to burn a DVD of the ripped files.
What software do you recommend for creating the DVD disc image and burning it to a DVD?
    Thanks.

I am attempting to do the same thing; i.e., I have a TS folder on my desktop and I'm trying to make a DVD that will play in a DVD player.
I've tested the TS folder by launching it in DVD Player and it plays beautifully with sound. Now I would like to burn this to a DVD.
I've attempted to use DVD Imager, but all I get is an error message that the TS folder is not found after dragging it to the icon. I've moved the folder around to different places (home drive, user etc), but still DVD Imager doesn't seem to find it, even though the path is recognized in the software.
I also followed the steps in the ken stone article and successfully created a .cdr file by following these steps:
    a. Created a folder named VISIONS (the name of the home made movie)
    b. Placed the TS_Video folder inside of the VISIONS folder
    c. Used Disk Utility to create a .cdr
    selected File>New>Disc Image from Folder
selected VISIONS folder (with TS_Video folder inside)
    selected CD/DVD Master
    selected Encryption None
    d. VISIONS.cdr created on desktop
    e. Used Disk Utility to create DVD
highlighted VISIONS.cdr in left in Disk Utility
    Burned to DVD
The DVD created was not recognized by my DVD player, nor would it play on my MAC - the computer wouldn't even recognize it.
Do I need to also place an empty AUDIO_TS folder inside the VISIONS folder along with the VIDEO_TS folder?
Any advice out there would be greatly appreciated.

  • Real time importing images

I am working on the project that I need to import images in real time. I mean my program have to get a picture per second.I am very new with LabView and don't know how can I do that. can anyone help me please?
    Thank you in advance.

There is usb camera and I mean by real time is really fast like one picture per second.  I am good at programing but no experience with LabView. Do you think can I code separately in C or C++ and kind of using in LabView.
I have a USB camera mounted on my monitor "looking at me".  I fired up MAX and tried to determine how quickly I could "snap" (take a single image) pictures.  Since I was manually "pushing the button", it was tricky to tell, but it seemed to be possible to take 1/sec.  I then tried "grab", which takes videos -- this was (of course) much easier, and considerably faster (I'd guess tens of frames/second).
I have the Vision module installed, and am using IMAQdx for getting the images.  LabVIEW isn't bad in capturing images, but there's not a lot of hand-holding or extensive documentation -- I think it could be a real challenge to "do it yourself" with no LabVIEW experience.
To even see if this is a viable approach for you, see if you can repeat what I did -- plug in your USB camera, open NI-MAX, and see if the camera shows up.  If it doesn't, stop -- you don't have the LabVIEW software appropriate to do this installed.

  • How to create Real Time Infocube in BW

    Hi BW Experts,
We got one requirement. We need to create one Real Time Infocube.

    Hi,
    Creating a Real-Time InfoCube
When creating a new InfoCube in the Data Warehousing Workbench, select the Real-Time indicator.
Converting a Standard InfoCube into a Real-Time InfoCube
Conversion with Loss of Transaction Data
If the standard InfoCube already contains transaction data that you no longer need (for example, test data from the implementation phase of the system), proceed as follows:
           1.      In the InfoCube maintenance in the Data Warehousing Workbench, from the main menu, choose InfoCube ® Delete Data Content. The transaction data is deleted and the InfoCube is set to inactive.
           2.      Continue with the same procedure as with creating a real-time InfoCube.
Conversion with Retention of Transaction Data
If the standard InfoCube already contains transaction data from the production operation that you still need, proceed as follows:
Execute ABAP report SAP_CONVERT_NORMAL_TRANS under the name of the corresponding InfoCube. Schedule this report as a background job for InfoCubes with more than 10,000 data records because the runtime could potentially be long.
