We have created an infoset based on LDB PCH.
(The infoset contains object type O only).
For the object-id field the users want search help when choosing this field for selection.
Using "start via selection screen" does not give a good solution.
Can anyone explain how I can create search help for fields in an infoset?

In case if you want to use in parameters statement, then we can use the suffix MATCHCODE OBJECT syntax.
Eg.
report abc.
parameters : a(10) type c matchcode object ZBELNR.

there are two types of search helps .
1. elementary search help .
2. collective serch help
Below are the steps to create elementary search helps :
1 In the initial screen of the ABAP Dictionary, select object class Search help, enter the name of the search help and choose Create.
2.then youget a option elementary or collective search as per you r need .
3.select Elementary search help and choose
4.write explanatory text in the field Short text.
5. in the selection method give the name of the table or a view .
6 . Select the fields that should be used for value selection or in a hit list .
7. then define the attributes of the search help .
8 Select the IMP flag if it is an import parameter. Select the EXP flag if it is an export parameter.
9 .define the dialog type of the search help.
The dialog type tells how the hit list will be displayed in the input help.
10 . save and activate .

Doubt on creating Search help.

I have created a table . I am using the SAPGUI version 4.6. In that i am not having a tab called Search Help as we used to have in Higher version.I have created a Search help using the Search help radio button in SE11 start screen.
I am not able to assign the search help created to the respective field in the table.
is there any ways how to assign the search help we have created to the respective field.

If you have created search help then it's very easy to assign that Search help to database table field.
Go To sell.
Enter your table name,
Click on Change,
Select the field for which you want to assign search help,
Then Click on Search Help Button.
Enter you search help name and its done....

Using the T-Code SE11 you can create search help, first you should create one search help name in that screen then it will ask two options in that option you should select first one(Elementary search help), then third window will open, in the third window you should give table name and field names for that table and Lpos, Spos values then activate it. After finish this process you should move to SE11 screen then give table name afterwards you click the regarding fields for your search help.

There is basically no difference between a search help for standard vs. customer tables.
An important choise is the selection method for your search help:
Either you use your custom table, a view or a search help user-exit if you need to implement very specific requirements.
Assuming that you can use your DB table as selection method the further implementation of the search help is quite straightforward:
(1) Define the parameters you would like to have a selection criteria (SPos = SPos) and which should appear on the result list (= LPos).
(2) Define the parameters that can be used as input for the selection (flag IMP) and are returned by the search help (flag EXP)

i have an intersting question for you, well my scenario is like i have to create a search help exit using some function module cause i didt found table for my search help but i can find the value through FM, i know we can create a search help exit and then assign it to collective search help,
my problem is what are the parameters i need to pass to this search help exit FM, and in the function module i want to use the value entered on the f4 selection screen to extract data through FM. i need to give a solution asap.

I am getting an error "Elementary search help without hit list is meaningless" while creating a search help,.what could be the problem?

Diagnosis
The flag that they should appear in the hit list is not set for any of the parameters in the elementary search help in question. An elementary search help without a hit list is meaningless because it is not possible to select a value from the set of possible values in the input help process which it describes.
System Response
The action is terminated abnormally.
Procedure
In the maintenance screen for the search help, assign at least one parameter a position in the hit list.
