Create shortcuts for different iTunes libraries?

My wife and I share a single Windows 7 User account but have separate iTunes libraries.  It can be a hassle holding the shift button to bring up the option to switch between the libraries. Is there was a way to create a shortcut for each so I can just click on one to open my library and she can click on another for hers? Is that possible?

"Should iTunes be separately D/L'ed and installed on each account?"
No. You can create different users or put all the music together in one library and sync by playlists.
"Can you Home Share from one library to another on the same machine?"
No. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1203

Can you keep it from creating duplicates?  These libraries have some duplicates.
How do you deal with duplicates?
    I'm talking 50GB.
    All computers are authorized.
    THANKS for any suggestions.

    You can't.
If accounts could be merged, then everybody could merge their accounts with everybody and there would be no need for anyone to buy anything.

  • Condensing Different iTunes Libraries

    Hi All,
I am condensing two different iTunes libraries by importing my music library from my G5 to my iMac, which will be my central music hub. Everything imported successfully, plus I also figured out how to import my playlists from my G5 music library using the XML file, so it's all good. However, the songs from my G5 music library no longer have a play count associated to them.
My question now is: Is it possible to include the play count for each song from my G5 library? I know this isn't a huge issue, but I like knowing how often I've listened to a particular song. Plus, the songs that were in my top 25 most played playlist on my G5 are not included now because they have no play count.
Any help/insight on this issue is greatly appreciated! Thank you all!
    Kevin

  • Synching to Two Different iTunes Libraries

What are the risks and other considerations in using two different iTunes libraries to send photos to an iPad?
My iPad is synched to my home iMac. I have added photos to the iPad via the iTunes. After some experimentation, I have discovered that if I do not use iPhoto, I can only have photos on my iPad that exist in a singe folder on my iMac. While that is a painful limitation, I can live with it.
Ok, so now suppose I have taken my MacBookAir on vacation with my iPad. (Assume a foreign country with no 3G connectivity or hot spot.) I have taken a bunch of photos and uploaded them from my camera to the MBA, edited them in Photoshop and now want to share the edited photos with friends over dinner.
After overthinking the problem for longer than I care to admit, my "well-duh" moment arrived when I realized that all I have to do is to connect my iPad to the MBA via cable, go to the photos section of iTunes and select my newly edited photos.
I do not have the MBA synched to my home library.
What happens to my existing photos when I transfer my new photos? Gone, is my guess. What about everything else on the iPad that I have synched to the home computer, like music library? Also gone?
In short, is there a way to transfer these photos from my MBA to my iPad without wiping out the rest of what is stored?
I've wallowed around some and seen suggestions like Drop Box, Transfer etc. I'm not sure, but these probably require a wireless connection, and I won't have one. I do have the camera upload kit, but I have not experimented with whether I can transfer edited photos from my MBA onto an SD card for transfer to the iPad (i.e., I do not know whether the files have to be created by a camera, or whether edited photos will work).
Any strategies out there for doing simply what I am trying to do would be appreciated.

You're right; it's not the multiple folders problem I was unhappy about. It was having to put everything in the same parent folder and not being able to select individual photos or folders from other parents that was modestly irritating. Oh well. Maybe iOS version 5 . . . .
As far as photo transfer goes, the iTunes synch may be my only way. I guess I could set up a parent folder on my MBA called "iPad Transfer" and put everything I want--new and old--into it so that every time I synch I get everything.
I'm concerned, however, that the camera connection kit I bought may not be very useful to me. My digital camera is compact flash, so to use the card reader I will have to go out and buy an SD card at the very least. But since I have no device I know of to format the card for a DCIM folder, I think I'm out of luck. There isn't any way to format a new card with a DCIM folder if you don't have an SD camera, is there?
The only way I can think of to use the kit is to transfer shots directly from my camera. These would be unedited, and I'll have to transfer all of them. I'm pretty sure that it is not advisable to transfer edited photos back to a compact flash card, since the camera probably won't read them and will probably screw up the card formatting.
I did try to connect my Compact Flash card via my (non-powered) Lexar card reader and the USB connector that came with the camera connection kit, but no luck. The iPad says it won't work because it uses too much power.
Any other workarounds that you know of?

  • Multiple macs & different iTunes libraries with iCloud

I have multiple macs with different iTunes libraries, and I don't want to blend them.  What do I need to know/do before setting up and using iCloud?  I don't mind choosing one library for use with iCloud, but I don't want to disturb the other libraries - although I do want to continue to sync calendars, address book, etc. on each computer.  Can I have more than one computer having the same iTunes library?
    Thanks for any feedback!

  • T will it have 2 different itune libraries? Or do we have to share 1?

I am trying to back up a 2 iphone onto one computer. But will it have 2 different itune libraries? Or do we have to share 1?

This is up to you and not determined by the iPhone.
You can sync each iPhone with the same iTunes library and each iPhone has its own sync preferences with iTunes, or you can have more than one iTunes library with iTunes on your computer. This will require constantly logging in and and out of each iTunes library on your computer with iTunes depending on the iPhone being synced with iTunes.

    Please Help me.
    Thank alot .

There is no specific SDK function for this, you could however write code to automate the manual steps:-
    - Launch Query Manager (ActivateMenuItem 4865)
    - Iterate through query groups in Item "6", and expand the group containing your query
    - Iterate through queries within the group, and use click method to highlight the required query
    - Call Print or Print Preview (ActivateMenuItem 520 / 519)

  • Apple tv and syncing two different iTunes libraries

Is ist possible to sync - or better stream - contetn from two different itunes libraries.
I have an iMac sitting in my office and a amc mini in the livingroom (which was supposed to do the atv-job but failed due to tremendous fan activity)
i would like to connect the appletv to both itunes libraries, because their contents are different.
    Is this possible?

You can only sync from one library but it also streams content that isn;t synced.
You can stream from up to four other libraries as well (or is it five? I can't work out if the one yuo sync from counts as one of the extra streaming libraries or not).

  • AppleScript for opening different iTunes libraries

I want an application that will, at the press of a button open one of my two iTunes libraries, as I have to switch between them with frequency. Unfortunatly, I can't figure out how to tell iTunes to open a specific library. I have what I tried pasted below. No mater which button I press, (except for "cancel" of course!) it just opens the last used library. What am I supposed to do?
    Thanks.
    tell application "iTunes" to quit
display dialog "Choose an iTunes Library to open" buttons {"Normal iTunes library", "mp3 library", "cancel"} default button 1
    copy the result as list to {buttonpressed}
if the buttonpressed is "Normal iTunes library" then
tell application "Finder" to open POSIX file "/Users/benlevy/music/iTunes/iTunes Library"
    end if
if the buttonpressed is "mp3 library" then
tell application "Finder" to open POSIX file "/Users/benlevy/music/mp3 iTunes library/iTunes Library"
    end if
if the buttonpressed is "cancel" then cancel
    end

I know those things! I do switch manually all the time. I want this program to eliminate the hassle.
The reason for having two libraries is because I have an mp3 player that uses the iTunes library file structure to copy music (including the artists, albums, genres, etc) onto its hard disk. Unfortunately, it is small (2Gb) and it only handles mp3s. Luckily, I have been able to create a work flow that saves all the high quality aac files from my regular itunes library, and copies highly compressed mp3 versions of them to my "mp3 itunes library." I need to open the mp3 library to sync my mp3 player, but to listen to music I use the normal library. I don't want to deal with two copies of each song in 1 library!

  • Is it possible to create shortcuts for iTunes that work no matter what program I am in?

My keyboard doesn't have media shortcuts. I want to create the media shortcuts using my F keys. How would I go about doing this so that no matter what program I am in, the shortcut speaks to iTunes?

This is probably occuring because your Mac is attempting to wirelessly sync with a device. Try unchecking the checkbox that reads "Open iTunes when device is connected" (this option can be found under the general page of iTunes when you have a device connected).

  • Workaround for Sharing iTunes Libraries

I've experimented with a solution for sharing my iTunes Library between my iMac and MBP. It isn't perfect, but it has the benefit of not requiring any smoke and mirrors, and you can take it with you. It does require an Airport Drive.
BACK EVERYTHING UP USING A COMBINATION OF TIME MACHINE AND CARBON COPY CLONER BEFORE PROCEEDING...
I'll just use "iMac" and "MBP" in this description but of course they can be anything...
Let's assume you are starting with your iTunes library on your iMac and your iTunes Media folder is in the default position within /Users/[x]/Music/iTunes.
    (1) I have an Airport Extreme, and so I connected a drive to it. It is worth nothing that I have a USB hub connected to my AE with a printer and two drives connected to it; the other drive is for TM.
    (2) On drive you just connected, create a folder called iTunes Media.
    (3) In iTunes on the iMac, go the Preferences>Advanced and set your iTunes Media folder location to the one on the Airport Drive. You also likely want Copy Files to iTunes Media Folder When Added checked on the iMac.
    (4) Now go to File>Library/Organize Library... and consolidate your files. If you have not already updated your file organization, you probably want to as well. This can take quite some time depending on the size of your media library.
At this point, everything should still work fine. You ought to be able to play your music and see all artwork. If you Get Info on a song, you ought to see that it is on the Airport drive. No magic yet.
    Now...
    (5) On your iMac, the iTunes Media folder is still within the iTunes folder (when iTunes consolidated, it didn't delete it). Move that folder to a safe place outside of the iTunes folder; in my case, I moved it to a folder that TM does not back up.
    (6) Delete the /user/[x]/Music/iTunes folder on your MBP, and replace it with the iTunes folder on your iMac; I did this wirelessly with File Sharing. It can take some time if you have artwork, but likely just a few minutes.
    (7) Bring up iTunes on your MBP (no problem keeping iTunes up on your iMac). iTunes will check the library (pretty quick) and then bring up your library, complete with artwork.
    (8) To be on the safe side, go to Preferences>Advanced and uncheck Copy Files to iTunes Media folder (that's a restriction with this scheme; you can only add files on your iMac).
Still, no magic. iTunes on your iMac is set up completely normally with everything in its media folder, whereas iTunes on your MBP is set up with nothing in its media folder.
    (9) When you add files on your iMac, you will have to repeat step 6. In my case, I am not constantly adding media, so it in not a problem.
    (10) Want to take it with you? Not a problem. Quit iTunes, dismount your Airport disk, connect it directly to your MBP, fire up iTunes, it it will just work.
    (11) In my case, I am also using Home Sharing, and I can still see the shared media folder the old way, and it still works. Selecting it highlights how sharing is implemented; when you select it, you see drive activity on the Airport disk. In other words, all iTunes is looking at is the iTunes Media folder and ignoring everything else.
    (12) Also in my case, the username on my MBP is the same as on my iMac, but I don't think that matters. I also think it would work for any number MBP "satellites", with the restriction that you can only add files from the iMac "mother ship."
BE SURE TO USE CCC TO BACKUP YOUR NEW ITUNES MEDIA AIRPORT DISK
    Hope this helps.

This is the most simple way to share between your snow leapord and bootcamp windows 7. i deem this method the 'safest & correct method' of adding ' literally sharing' your library between different OSs.
    part 1
    1. on itunes software under bootcamp windows 7, go to edit > perferences.
    2. go to under advance tab, look at itunes media folder location.
    3. change it to: e:\users\username\music\itunes\itunes media.
    4. uncheck keep itunes media folder organized.
    5. uncheck copy files to itunes media folder when adding to library.
    6. hit ok.
    part 1 easily completed!
    final part =D
    7. on itunes software under bootcamp windows 7, go to file > library > import playlist
    8. point your default itunes software under snowleapord playlist: e:\users\username\music\itunes\itunes music library.xml
    9. now just sit back and wait while it imports the library!
    final part easily completed!
    enjoy!
