Create slide show - help needed to transfer from iPhoto

I am an editing novice but a skilled Mac user with a programing background. I am trying to create a 20-30 minute slide show of approximately 250 photos to run in the background at my son's bar mitzvah on 61 inch plasmas. I have selected the photos and can produce something very basic in iPhoto. I would like to improve this in the following ways and hope Final Cut Express is the best too:
1) Ability to custom configure Ken Burns effects to the proper faces, etc, and hopefully add rotation of my choice.
2) Be able to create PIP and split screen effects. Concepts include having 2-4 photos in field simultaneously
3) No need for sound - this will run in background
4) Need to format photos to fit monitor best - assume this gets done best in iPhoto
Is the best thing to do to export a QT movie from iPhoto? Is there a better way to get the photos into FCE? Is there a good primer for slide shows in FCE either on web or for sale?
Sorry to pound the questions, but I did not see a direct response on the forum.

I just had to do a slide show with 190 pictures. I created it in iMovie so applying the Ken Burns would be less work, yet I still had control over the direction of travel. When I was done, while in iMovie, I exported as movie as the first choice under export (I can't think of the correct term) and selected the large option when it gave me the choices. It was exported to the desktop as an MP4 and I easily imported it into FCE with no loss of clarity. I also tried to export it as a Quicktime movie to see if it would work also and I was also able to import that into FCE. IMHO iMovie is the way to go for simple slide shows. Hope this helps.
PS. If you need 30 minutes of video, iMovie can easily adjust you photos. I know you said you didn't need music, but try this. Place all your photos into iMovie. Then place X number of songs, any songs, into iMovie until you have 30 minutes. I believe iMovie sets all clips at 4 seconds. You can then add cross desolve transitions between every photo buy going into project settings and clicking on the box to add dissolves. Then set the length of disolve between .5 and 1 second. You then call tell if you have enough photos to fill 30 minutes by seeing if the photos totaly fill up the music (highlight in iMovie)if you are to short, make the photos 5-10 seconds. If you are too long just make them shorter. When you import into FCE, just delete the audio track.

  • Huge slide shows in iMovie when imported from iPhoto.

Every year I do a family slide show of between 250-300 slides. In the past, I've created the show in iMovie. This year, I did it in iPhoto. I wanted to put a title at the front, and iMovie has some great editing features for this. I exported the iphoto slide show as movies (with music) using high quality "Display" and second highest "Large". These files are roughly 500MB and 225MB. So far so good. I started a new movie in iMovie using the 1080 HD option. I added a title at the beginning and imported the whole slide show as a single clip. That's it-nothing else. The resulting iMovie was more than 29GB! That's not a typo. The "clip" was 27.5GB. Importing the "Large" export didn't help.
I started over and repeated the process, except that I used the DV-Wide setting to create the movie (instead of 1080HD). This time the title and slide show were 10GB. The imported slide show clip was about 9GB.This is far less but still way too big.
By the way, in past years the same length slide shows created (not imported) in iMovie averaged 1-2GB.
         What am I doing wrong?
Mountain Lion on a MacBook Pro, 750GB, iPhoto 11, iMovie 6.

    Hi MGW,
I do not no how things are handled when using HDV and technical documentation is hard to find on this topic of how photo are handled using HDV but in iMovie and most non HDV video editing software the picture is always 72ppi regardless of what is was/is on the outside and the images that appear the worst are the ones with less.
On a side note I don't use iPhoto because of all the superfluous files and thumbnails it creates and it disorganises my photos according to criteria that is completely irrelevant to me. I have had these thumbnails pop up in the browser in the past primarily with any photos that existed in the library prior to any updates. With what I have been working on as of late can understand how and why this could happen.
If you scroll through the media browser dose it appear that the library you are working with duplicates itself somewhere along the line or do you see double images side by side?
What are you machine specs and please include you screen/display size and graphics card information as this is the most relevant information at this point with what you are doing.

  • Urgent HELP needed: Problems transfer from Bold 9900 to Z10

    Dear helpdesk,
I've just received my new Z10 and want to transfer all data from my old 9900.
Using Link software seems to work fine.... until the copying from the 9900 is almost finished. Then I get the message "Data could not be copied from your device due to the following errors: There could have been a problem with the device or communication during the backup. Verify that the device is tuned on and connected".
Surely that IS the case.... I've already removed the old BB Desktop SW and reinstalled the Link SW.
    Without success unfortunately.
What do I do wrong/do I need to do to get my files copied to the Z10?
I am also wondering what would happen to the memos which I made using the 9900's MemoPad?
    Thanks for your swift help!

  • When do you need to transfer from iPhoto to Photoshop?

I have a new macbook, with iPhoto and am enjoying it. i hear photoshop C2 is amazing and wanted to ask when and if i should transition to it?
i usually just edit photos simply to put on my myspace or make albums and print out. would it be wise to invest in photoshop or is iphoto good enough?

If this is what you're doing, stick with iPhoto. PS doesn't 'do' albums. PS is an image editor. It's industrial level, with a considerable learning curve. It's expensive, very expensive. And while what it can do is amazing, learning how to do the amazing things takes a long time. I have a 600 page book here about an earlier version of PS. If you feel the editing facilities are not enough for you on iPhoto, then check out Photoshop Elements, a consumer level version of PS. A lot less expensive.

  • Premiere Elements 7 crashes on creating slide show

    Hi Gurus,
I use Premiere Elements 7 for about 2 years and it works fine when I need to create a film from set of video fragments.
But I also need to create slide shows from pictires.
For some reason PRE7 crashs on building such slide show (at least, this is valid for a long enough slide show). It happens not always on the same slide, but approximately at the same percentage of the slide show to be built.
    I run PRE7 on Windows XP, SP3 32-bit
What may be a reason of this crash? Conflict with some other software, installed on my computer? Lacking resources (I have 4 GBytes of memory, but Win 32-bit uses only 3.25 GBytes)? Known bug?
I tried to install the trial version of PRE9, but the result was even worse: it crashed even more quickly than PRE7. i.e. less slides were processed before the crash.
Any suggestion that can help to solve this issue will be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Ilia

If you can handle smaller numbers of large images, but not larger numbers, it is likely a resource issue. It could be RAM, Virtual Memory, or similar.
This ARTICLE might be helpful for setting up your computer for an editing session, and freeing as many resources, as is possible. This ARTICLE discusses Virtual Memory.
PrE 9 will have about the same resource requirements, or might use a bit more, so a large number of large still images will remain a problem.
    Good luck,

  • Scanning 35mm slides to create slide show

My objective is to scan 35mm slides and create a presentable slide show for viewing on a computer monitor and TV. (regular TV)
I am using an Epson 4490 Perfection scanner and Photoshop Elements 2 software.
This should be relatively easy, but I'm running into difficulty and can find nothing in the "help" section of the software that answers my question.
How would you set the scanning options to obtain a good quality scan, without the software automatically cropping the slide, and being of good quality when viewed on the monitor/TV?
After completing the scans, I'll need to create the slide shows and save them to disc. Any suggestions or information you could offer in these areas would also be helpful:
    - Tutorials for creating slide shows, included in the Elements 2 program or elsewhere.
    - What would be the best quality disc to save these to?
Thanks so much for the help

    Lauraly.....
I haven't actually done what you intend but here's some things to consider.
Your 35mm slides have an aspect ratio of 3:2 ( 36mm x 24mm). Normal TVs and many Monitors have and aspect ratio of 4:3. Some widescreens TVs are 16:9. This means you wont get a 35mm slide to fit exactly. Either it will be 'letterbox' sshape on your screen or if you size to fit then something will be cropped off.
As for scanning you should consider what resolution you need for the end display. If your display has for example a width of 1280 pixels then you should aim to scan the slide to achieve the same number of pixels - which works out to be approx 355 pixels/cm or 900 pixels/inch. For a TV you could probably get away with less.
If your scanning the slides you may want to go flat out so that the images could also be printed out sometime in the future in which case you may want to scan at something like 3200 or 6400 pixels/inch.
Once you've scanned the images you'll need a program to make the slide show. Photoshop Elements 5 can do this but in my opinion Proshow Gold is a better program. Don't make a Video CD (VCD) - the quality of the playback is poor. Go for high quality DVD
Elements can't actually burn the DVD - you need another program for that. Proshow will do everything and more.
You can download a free program from Microsoft called Photostory 3. It will allow you to make the slide show for playback on your PC - including music - but to make a DVD you need another program. If you have a DVD burner the s/w for that may be suitable.
    Hope this helps.

  • Creating Slide Show problems in Elements 10

I have Photoshop elements 10. I started to create a slide show: so selected the photos, then the show preferences from the dialogue box but when I clicked OK the Slide Show editor dialogue box did NOT appear and everything froze.  the only way out was to close the whole program. Please can you help?

If you are running Windows system then this article will help you to get started:

Although it is for PSE12, the steps are almost identical in PSE10.
    Good luck.

  • PE4 Error in trying to create slide show

When I try to create a slide show in PE4, I cannot add any photos to slide editor. I get 'slide show command failed. Unable to add photos from organizer'. There are pictures in the organizer. I have tried adding pictures from both the organizer and file folder and I still cannot create a slide show. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

I tried as you suggested and that didn't work. When I am in organizer and select photos, then click on create, slide show, ok, the following message apears. 'Error code C0000005, Address 847606' and then element closes. If when starting elements and I choose create and then slide show and the editor comes up. I click on add media from either organizer or folders and select pictures I get 'Slide show command failed. Unable to add photos from organizer.'
I am using windows xp home and a vaio laptop. Anyone have any other ideas? TIA

  • Creating slide shows in flash

I am trying to teach myself to create slide shows in Flash.  I have Flash CS4 Professional.  I found a tutorial to do this for CS3, Action Script 2.0, here:
    http://previews.learnflash.com/previews/flash/basicslideshow.html
It seems like a great tutorial.  However, as I am following it, I can't make my slide show work as the tutorial demonstrates.  Specificall, after creating the buttons as shown, my slide show will not stop at the next frame, but rapidly runs through all the slides.
I have worked with the tutorial for several days and can not get it to work for me. I get the below error messages when I follow the turorial.
This is what the tutorial says to do, and as best as I can tell, I am doing just that:
This is what part of my screen looks like:
I would greatly appreciate any pointers, perhaps to a more current tutorial.
    Many thanks!
    christian

The first image you show is probably the most telling, especially if the second image you show is taken from the tutorial and is not a screenshot of what you've done.  Based on the error messages, you are using parentheses where you should be using curly braces.
    next_btn.onRelease = function(){
         nextFrame();
Also, just for the sake of it, check your Flash Publish Settings and make sure you have AS2 selected for the Actionscript version.

  • I have created a slide show with pictures and music in Iphoto and when I try export it I get Error You do not have sufficient permission for this operation.

I have created a slide show with pictures and music in Iphoto and when I try export it I get Error You do not have sufficient permission for this operation.  Try to export to an external HD attached, all help would be gratefully received

Have you ever successfully saved anything to that external drive? My first two thoughts are that the drive isn't formatted for the Mac or that you don't have rights to save to the drive.

  • Best Adobe Product for Creating Slide Show

I'm trying to find out what is the best Adobe product to use to create slide shows? I have Photoshop CS2 and just got Premiere Pro (which I haven't used before).

Many options, it depends on what you want to do.
Premiere Pro can easily make a video that displays a series of images in turn, with optional transitions between them, but the viewer can't navigate around as they could with a PowerPoint file.
Later versions of Photoshop can also assemble still photos into a video sequence.
If you want to display the slideshow on a website, you're looking at an HTML/JavaScript solution.
Finally you can combine your slides into a PDF file and set it to full-screen mode with automatic timings.

  • Where is "Create Slide Show"

PSE 5 has a file menu item "Create--Slide Show" and "Open Creation."  Where is this in PSE 11?

There is no Open Creation, because creations open in different places depending on the save format and type of creation. You just open the files and they go where adobe wants you to work on them.
Slide show is in the organizer only, and then only in the windows organizer, not on a mac at all.

  • I am using using IDVD to create slide shows.  When viewed on my computer the pictures are clear and of high quality.  When I burn the slide show to a disk and play it back, the pictures are blurry and of poor quality.

I am using IDVD to create slide shows.  When viewed on my computer, the pictures are clear and of high quality.  When I burn the slide show to a disk and play it back, the pictures are blury and of poor quality.  Is there a setting that controls the quality of the burn and if there is, where do I find it?  Thank you.

The Mac software - iPhoto, iMovie, and iDVD are not the best with the Ken Burns effect (zoom in/out effect), so you might want to minimize that effect; also, if your subjects are wearing stripes for instance, that will have an effect if you zoom. There is better software available for slideshows; however, I do not know of any that is free (and does a good job). I've used Photo to Movie for some time; it does a fine job even in HD, but you have to pay for it. I use iDVD extensively, but only to add a menu, theme, special effects, etc. and then to burn it.

Hi! i need to transfer from mac iCloud contacts info to galaxy note3. how do i do it? Thanks

If the Galaxy allows importing from vCards files....
You can export your contacts - go to the Contacts page at icloud.com (use computer's browser), click the top contact to select it then shift-click the bottom one to select all. Click the cogwheel icon at bottom left and choose 'Export vCard'.
