Create smart playlist - "shuffle randomly" - burn DVD

The above is all what I want to do.
I can create a smart playlist no problem. I can burn a DVD with the playlist no problem. BUT
I can not get the playlist to randomly shuffled in the itunes window before I burn the disk?!! Shuffle is on "By Song" and turning it 'off' or 'on' makes no change to the order of the playlist in the itunes window.??????
I am using itunes 9.0.1.8. I had done it once before a while back, and the DVD has tracks in random order (ie:shuffled) but not now the playlist does not shuffle.
itunes DJ only gives 100 songs, I need 400 approx.
what am I doing wrong or what has changed recently????
cheers for any help.

Click the very first column header with the numbers.
If you have any other column selected, it will sort on that column. If shuffled, the songs will play shuffled but still be displayed sorted on that column.

Make a new blank playlist and add what you want.
Or make a smart playlist and select 400 songs by random.

  • How do I create smart playlists for albums?

    Hi,
I have a lot of albums and each album has their proper track listings meaning their proper track songs. I would like to create smart playlists for all my individual albums and for every individual album has a smart playlist with the proper track songs in the smart playlist for the album?
1.) Would doing this be possible?
2.) If so, how could I do this?
I forgot to mention a lot of my albums are multiple CDs, and a lot also include bonus CDs.
I don't know many tracks or CDs off the top of my head, but here are some album names as an example.
Road Trips vol. 1 no. 1
Road Trips vol. 1 no. 2
Road Trips vol. 1 no. 3
Road Trips vol. 1 no. 4
    And the list goes on.
    Thank you,

An album in iTunes is a collection of tracks that have the same Album name and the same Artist or Album Artist. Older iPods only work with Artist. The iPod has menu listtings for Artists & Albums built in, so again no need to duplicate with playlists. Any tracks you put on an iPod will, if correctly tagged, show up in their relevant album, and in the artist listing, the genre listing, any playlists that you include, etc.
For tips on organizing tracks in iTunes and on an iPod see the Grouping tracks into albums article. It needs some updated images, but the information is otherwise still relevant.

  • I'd love to see a way to create Smart Playlists with a raw (SQL-like) lang.

I'm not sure if this is the proper place to put a request, but if any of you developers are out there looking for ideas here's one I (and I'm sure many other power users) would love.
Give is a way to create smart playlists with nested logic or using an SQL-like query language. Currently when matching multiple properties of songs we have an all-or-nothing approach to AND's and OR's which is quite limiting if you want to do something like.
"All songs with a rating of 2+ and a genre of electronica or metal"
Currently the only way to do this is to first create a smart playlists for all songs with a genre of electronica or metal, and then create a second playlist which is songs with a rading of 2+ and in the first playlist.
While this trickery will allow you to achieve any goal you could imagine, it get's quite messy very quickly.
It'd be much easier (for someone like me) to just be given a raw interface that would allow me to do something like
    [Songs matching the clause]
    rating > 2
    AND
    genre = 'Metal'
    OR
    genre = 'Electronica'
    AND
    artist 'Iron Maiden'

    Great idea.

  • Creating smart playlists: how to combine "any" and "all"?

I want to create a smart playlist, say with all songs by Miles Davis OR John Coltrane; and I also want to limit the playlist to songs rated above 3 stars. This seems like a really easy task, but I can't do it with the "create smart playlist" box on iTunes. Am I missing something? When I add the "above 3 stars" criteria, I get ALL the songs rated 4 stars or above, whether I add a criteria using "any" or "all."
I want ONLY songs that are by Miles OR Coltrane AND above 3 stars. Is there any way to do so?
    Thanks!
    ~Peter

I have to START with the "above 3 stars" criteria, not add it at the end.
That is not correct. It makes no difference if it's at the beginning, middle or end.
The smart playlist simply needs to be set up your correctly.

  • Smart Playlist of random albums

I want to create a Smart Playlist that contains randomly selected albums...until the playlist reachs a certain size. I know how to tell it to "limit" the list to X GBs "selected by random". However, this won't give me complete albums.
    Any help is appreciated!

Well, since there is no Smart Playlist option that allows you to specify whole albums, this currently appears not possible to do with a Smart Playlist.

  • Can't create smart playlists because iTunes can't see all my playlists

I noticed that my smart playlists aren't updating properly. When I tried to edit them, I got an error message saying "This smart playlist depends on one or more playlists that cannot be found."  I am using as one of my rules "Playlist is" but the dropdown list next to that rule does not show all of my playlists. It shows some of my smart playlists, none of the "regular" playlists. That means I cannot fix the smart playlist.
For example, I have a playlist called "exercise" that is a regular playlist. It contains 965 songs that I have added manually. I can see the "Exercise" playlist just fine in iTunes, and I can add/remove songs from it. But my smart playlist, "Top Exercise Rare Recent," does not work, because it depends on the rule "Playlist Is Exercise." When I try to edit the rule "Playlist is," I cannot choose "Exercise" from the dropdown list--that playlist simply does not show up. But it is there. I can see it in iTunes. I just can't see it in the dropdown list.
I don't even know what to try to fix this.
In case it matters, a few versions ago, an iTunes update "lost" my library. I had saved backup of my library files, fortunately, so I did not lose all of my ratings and playlists (at least, I didn't think I did). After I restored my library files, iTunes did not recognize my iPod classic so I had to re-sync it (removing everything that was on it and replacing it with whatever was in iTunes, i.e., exactly the same files). Then the next update broke my ability to burn playlists to cds AND it broke my system clock. I had to revert to a restore point that preceded the iTunes update, then reinstall iTunes, then "repair" the installation to get my cd burning ability back.
I am now using iTunes 11.3.1.2 on a Windows 8.1 PC (64-bit). Wishing I had never update

Thanks for the clarification. Sorry, it's working for me so I'm not sure what to suggest. Perhaps someone else will have ideas.
    Regards.

  • Is there a program that automatically creates smart playlists

    Hi,
I recently had my Itunes music library file damaged/corrupted, hence i lost all my playlists.
Before I spend 4/5 hours recreating my playlists I wondered if anyone knew if there was a program in cyberspace somewhere that would automatically create all my smart playlists by taking the song name/albumn name information from the songs in my itunes library folder?
    I hope you can help

What exactly are you looking to create? Smart playlist with what criteria?
It sounds like you want to create album playlists? If so, why? What's wrong with using the browser? ( View..Show Browser)

  • Creating smart playlist question

    Hi,
This seems like it'd be very simple but for some reason I'm having problems creating the smart playlist I want to create. I have a lot of hip-hop instrumentals and I want to create a smart playlist that filters them out and displays only hip-hop tracks that aren't instrumentals. All the hip-hop tracks I have are labeled as either "hip-hop" or "rap" (or some combination of the two) in the genre field and if they're an instrumental then they have "instrumental" in the name field, i.e., "Stressed Out (Instrumental)." What I've done so far is to try and create a smart playlist with the following three criteria:
    -Genre contains "Hip"
    -Genre contains "Rap"
    -Name doesn't contain "instrumental"
If I choose "Match all of the following rules" then I only get 117 songs (I have way more hip-hop/rap tracks that aren't instrumentals than this) but if I choose "Match any of the following rules" then I get a list without instrumentals but it includes ALL the genres I have. I have 2674 total hip-hop/rap tracks and I'm using iTunes 7.7. If anyone has any suggestions or help it'd be most appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Evan

    You will need 2 playlists:
    P1
    -Genre contains "Hip"
    -Genre contains "Rap"
    -Match all
    P2
    -Playlist is P1
    -Name doesn't contain "instrumental"
    -Match all
P1 should have 2674 items. P2 will include all of them that are not instrumentals.

  • Creating Smart Playlists with Video iPods

Does anyone know how to create a Smart Playlist that excludes podcasts, videos and TV shows - so that it is music only?
I figured out that I can include criteria in the playlist to have it "not contain" items whose Genre is podcast or TV shows, but there doesn't seem to be any way to exclude music videos.
    Anyone figure this out?

To exclude videos, add both of these rules:
    Kind does not contain "video"
    Kind does not contain "movie"
This covers all cases I have seen. This will also exclude TV shows (since they are videos/movies) so you don't have to worry about that Genre check.

  • Cannot create Smart Playlist for tracks to upgrade using iTunes Match

I just subscribed to iTunes Match and am trying to use a Smart Playlist to identify the tracks that can be upgraded following the instructions in this article:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1163620/how_to_upgrade_tracks_to_itunes_match_fa st.html
When I try to create the smart playlist, I get "This smart playlist contains one or more conditions which are empty or conflict with each other. This will result in never matching a song. Are you sure you want to save this playlist?".  I've narrowed it down to the iCloud Status settings.  I can create a playlist with either Matched or Purchased; however, I get the message above when specifying both.  Any ideas?

You need to make sure the rule for these 2 is Match Any, not Match all.

  • Creating Smart Playlists on the iPad

I don't understand why in all the changes with iOS 5 and the addition of the iCloud that smart playlist creation is not on the iPad.  I don't want to have my iOS devices teathered to my PC or Mac, they can now be devices unto themselves.  Has anyone heard if Apple is going to fix this as its annoying to not be able to rate a song and have it automatically appear in a playlist.

    Hello shytakki!
I was looking for something  like your curosity. SOME VIDEO PLAYLIST!
With the N97 and its massive memory you can easily put the MP3 music in the history and enjoy high quality videos with the mp4 format. I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE F*****G Video Playlists!!! hehehe
Have you found some video app that can do/make video playlist?
I'm thinking about to change my n97 only for this little things!!!
The easy way (but not quickly) it is to join all the files in one. For example, i put all the videos of David Guetta in one file named guetta.avi. The problem is when a new video comes, hehe.
I'm sorry for my english, i'm from argentina and i don't know where to find some help,
I hope you can help me.
    Andrés.-

  • Playlist Shuffle When Burning

When burning Playlists to disc, the songs are being shuffled, reordered by iTunes.  If there is a way around this problem please let me know.  I'm running 64-bit Vista.

But the file's size it should be revelant if I want to burn an audio cd (not an mp3 or acc)
    No, not really.
When iTunes (or another burning application) burns an Audio CD, all source files are converted 'on the fly' to the native format of an Audio CD (16 bit PCM), which has a fixed size per minute.
Wether it's a highly compressed format (mp3 or AAC) or an uncompressed format (WAV or AIFF), the play time of the file is the only relevant parameter.
When you insert an Audio CD in your Mac, OS X usually "sees" the files as AIFF audio files. Windows usually "sees" the files as WAV.
This has to do with AIFF being the default uncompressed audio format of Mac OS and WAV being the default uncompressed audio format of Windows.
The 80 minutes max., ed2345 mentioned, is true for a 700 MB disc.
