How to create a subfolder in the correct folder?
Best...Jan

Hi,
As I was also annoyed by the experience, that you cannot easily create subfolder structures in list view, I wrote a very convenient AppleScript to do just this. You can download it (subidoo) for free on my website:

  • Any reason NOT to create subfolders under user folder?

I'm switching over from a 5+ year old MacBook Pro to a new one. I do a lot of audio recording and production work. On my old machine, which was my first Mac, I created a subfolder 'Recordings' under my user folder (let's say it's named "bob"). I don't remember why I did that. Probably I was thinking well, this stuff isn't documents.
On the new machine, running Yosemite, I discovered that Apple in it's wisdom had made my "bob" user folder hidden, which meant I had to go figure out how to show it because there are some audio plugin settings files I needed to add manually from the old machine into my user/ Library area. Did that.
BUT... I'm wondering if there is some reason why Apple changed the user folder to hidden (other than "you dumb users don't need to know about this stuff"), and specifically, if I should avoid creating any subfolders under my user folder? I would really rather not have my 'Recordings' folder  inside the Documents folder, but I guess I can if there's some good reason not to create subfolders under 'bob'.
    Thanks in advance.

They didn't make it hidden (like the Library sub folder), but I believe it is no longer included in the sidebar by default. Probably for the reason you state. As you've found, you can add it back through Finder Preferences menu.

  • How to create subfolders?

    Hi,
Is it possible to create subfolders in the web gallery? How is that done?
    Thanks!!!

I'm migrating 10 years of mail from Thunderbird on a dusty Dell to my brand-new Mini. I've got tons of subfolders and filters, and I want to replicate the structure using Mail 3.0.
No matter what I do, I can't seem to add a subfolder to the email accounts I have coming off of different servers (Yahoo, Gmail and 2 on Go Daddy.)
The Mac help advice doesn't work -- I'm just given the options to place a new mailbox "On My Mac" or as an RSS feed.
Any other suggestions? I'd keep T'bird, except that I heard that Mozilla's not going to continue developing it. This problem seems to be unique to Leopard. Or maybe just unique to me.

  • Is there a way to create subfolders in my POP inbox?

Is there a way to create subfolders in a POP Inbox in Mail? I am using Mail 2.1.1 (752.3).

    David Gimeno Gost wrote:
The standard Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk mailboxes are all managed automatically by Mail. You cannot create your own mailboxes there.
But you can create local (On My Mac) folders and then create rules to send emails to those local folders upon receipt. You can get as creative as you like with local folders.

  • Is there any way to create subfolders instead of playlists for videos?

I know that ipod has changed things up by adding a "tv show" feature in the video section. However, what if you have a video that doesn't fall into one of the categories already listed. That being, "Movies", "Music Videos", "TV Shows, and/or "Video Podcasts".
Instead, what if you wanted to title a folder yourself. Does Apple not offer the capability yet?
Furthermore, is there a way to categorize videos into an episode format, much like in the "TV Show" section, but in the "Movies" folder. Or can you sync videos into the "Video Podcast" section from itunes with the possibility of being able to create subfolders for view on the ipod.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

iPods, unlike iTunes, don't support folders or subfolders for videos or music. So, for now, you'll have to make do with playlists.

  • Allow every user to create subfolders

    Hello everybody,
after some changes in our internal role system I need your help.
In BEX there you can go to
    open query or open workbook.
    Then hit the button "Roles"
There we can see the menu with all visible folders.
How can I allow every user to create subfolders within the folders he is already allowed to see?
As I activate a certain role even I (administrator) gets a greyed out view.
Is there a way that users can create new folders in a convenient way?
    Thanks for your help!
    Harry

I think the DNSAdmins group will give them too much control over the server (change forwarders, etc..).
Create a custom MMC snapin and assign related permissions. The picture below may give you an idea:

  • Creating Subfolders.... Need Help

    Dear Everyone,
I'm having trouble with my iWeb. I wanted to know if it's possible to create subfolders (I'm not sure if that's the right terminology here). Basically, I want to be able to Go to the Home page, click on one of the Pages (i.e. "Blog"), create an article, and have another subcategory in that (and maybe another after that?). Here's an example.
    Home - Outline
    - Assignments
    - Discussions
    - Blog - Art History - Rococo
    - Baroque
    - Neo-classicism
    - Mediums - Painting
    - Sculpture
    - Architechture - articles
    - photo gallery
    - reference links
Does anybody know if this is possible with iWeb? If so, plllllleeeeeeeeeeaaasse show me how.

It is just known as sub pages and yes, you can do it with iWeb.
How you do it depends on whether you have built and are using your own nav bar or whether you are using the iWeb template nav bar? If using a template nav bar, have your first page with the heading that is included in the nav bar and then for the sub-pages that you want to link to yourself, hide it from the nav menu via the Inspector - Page then click on hide nav bar.
You can then create your own links forward and back by using text boxes or shapes. The choice is yours.

  • Can I create subfolders in iCloud?

Just started using iCloud today and although I've figured out how to create folders easily enough, I can't seem to figure out how to create subfolders. I have many hundreds of docs I'd like to store there, but without subfolders it's pretty well useless. Does anyone have any idea how to do this? Thanks!

Thanks so much Mr. Churchill. What were they thinking at Apple when they set iCloud up? Without subfolders its usefulness is severely limited and almost useless to someone like me with so many files to store. But thanks for the link to feedback - I'll certainly do that!
I think the intention of iCloud, as far as document storage goes, is to act as a service to allow synchronization of documents between individual apps on your computer that you use with specific compatible apps on your iOS device.  It is not intended as general offline storage - it is intended merely as the means to allow access to select documents on multiple devices without the need for carrying or using physcial storage devices.
That is why the storage, even if purchasing extra space, is limited to a maximum of only 50GB (which BTW, box will give you for free for life if you use their iOS app), and why iCloud does not interact with Apple's own backup app (Time Machine). Also  why the iCloud folders are somewhat obscured in OS X since you are expected to access iCloud documents via the Application used with those documents itself.

    Movies
THis works great, so I have all our daughters photos nicley categorised in the folders. In the Movies folder, I have all my MP4 movies. the trouble is, that ALL of the movies are in the one foler titled MOVIES. Ive tried to create subfolders in here, but I cant seem to get this to work.

  • Creating subfolders under My Worklist

    Hi,
I would like to know whether it is possible to create subfolders under My Worklist in Form Manager (ver 7.0.1)?
We are trying to find a solution to the following scenario:
The user has lots of forms under his worklist which he is finding messy to manage. He wants some subfolders to be created under his worklist and would like the forms to be put in these subfolders depending on the usage of the form (thru the workflow which routes the form to him).
Can someone let me know if this is achievable?
    Thanks
    Vinay

You can't do that directly on the phone. You create groups in whatever supported contact application you use on your computer, then select those groups/group in itunes on the info pane & sync to your phone.

  • How can I create subfolders in Mac Mail for an Exchange account?

I use Mac Mail on OS X 10.8.4 to download my Exchange mail, which is hosted on Office 365.
I can create folders inside existing subfolders in my Inbox, but if I try to create one as a first-level subfolder of the Inbox the option does not exist. Instead, it creates another top level folder and puts it at the bottom of the folder list, not inside the Inbox.
Can anyone tell me how to add a normal subfolder to my Inbox?

    Exchange Basics
The Inbox syncs more frequently than any other and should be kept as clean as possible. (this is the number one cause of problems with sync). Do NOT make subfolders under the Inbox.
Exchange checks the server for updates every minute, any folder that has updates will subsequently be synced. Since Exhange has a limit on how many folders can be synced at a time, there can be a queue of folders waiting. The Inbox does get high priority so it will generally sync before other folders that also need to sync.
Keep your folders under the 2GB limit. That's approx 6-10K messages per folder (does not include subfolders) Outlook does not export folders over 2GB as .mbox files
    Exchange  Header
    Inbox
      Folder A  <---this is wrong
    Drafts
    Deleted Items folder
    Junk
Folder A  <-- this is correct
It's best to move folders using your web interface (OWA) but you can drag in Outlook and/or Mail.
    In Browser via OWA
Because of the massive changes the process is best done in your browser. I would also put Mail into work offline mode during this process. After all is moved on the server via the browser, I would delete the Exchange account and let it all download correctly from the server.

  • Unable to create subfolders in Automator

    Hi!
I'm trying to create a workflow which would basically create a new website project folder structure with a single click. I have an htdocs folder in which I'd like to create a new project folder with a number of subfolders.
    htdocs
    --prj1
    --prj2
    --newprj
    ----img
    ----css
    ----js
    etc.
What I'm trying to do is 1) ask for text input for a new folder name. 2) write the value to variable `pname`, then 3) creating a folder with this variable's value in htdocs folder and 4) writing the result of this operation to a `ppath` variable. 5) after that create a number of folders with fixed names in `ppath` location.
Instead of that this script creates series of nested folders (for example if I create only 1 subfolder, it generates newprj/css/newprj/css/newprj/css... etc.).
The output results of every step seem to be okay though I still can't get what I want.
    Please help.
    Eugene

I think the problem is that "new folder" action copies its input to the folder it creates (see the action description). To get rid of this control-click on the action and select "ignore input".
also, you might want to take a look at the "copy folder structure" action by red_menace.

  • Allow other users to create subfolders in Public w/ correct permissions?

    Hi,
I have a Public sub-folder called "Shared" which is set with permissions Everyone: Read & Write. Everyone in my workgroup should be able to have full access control to content in this folder.
This works great, except when someone else creates a subfolder, so that there is a structure like:
    Public > Shared > Widgets
If I create the Widgets folder and save a document into it, it has the correctly propagated permissions (Everyone: Read & Write). However, if someone else in my workgroup creates the Widgets folder and saves a document into it, it has incorrectly propagated permissions (Everyone: Read Only).
Is there a way to adjust my settings so that Read & Write applies not only to documents within "Shared", but to any subfolders that "everyone" creates?

    More like:
    *$ chmod +a "everyone allow addfile,add_subdirectory,file_inherit,directoryinherit" /Users/Shared*

  • Create subfolders under Inbox via Exchange Management Shell

Hello. I 'd like to create a standard set of subfolders under the Inbox for some dozens of users. I tried the command below:
    New-MailboxFolder -Parent Tony:\Inbox -Name
    Personal
    (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd335113(v=exchg.150).aspx)
which is supposed to create the subfolder "Personal" under user's Tony Inbox. But the problem is that while I am an administrator and possess full access to his mailbox I can't execute this command unless I am logged into Exchange as the real ...Tony.
Theoretically there must be some way for the administrator to impersonate Tony and execute the command. ?
We have an exchange 2013 on premise and would like to do this via a script for mass deployment. Any ideas are welcome.
    Thank you in advance.

I believe you need to use EWS to do something like that. I did a quick search and found this script where someone else has already done the work.  Probably worth a shot :)

  • How do I create subfolders UNDER multiple accounts in Mail, similar to Outlook?

I am trying to move from Outlook 2011 MAC to Apple Mail. I understand how to drag my folders (mbox) but I have 3 mail accounts in Outlook and want to create these same accounts in Mail...followed by the specific folders under each mail account.
Mail doesn't seem to allow me to simply drag a subfolder under a particular account. I'm on the latest version of Mountain Lion, as an FYI.
Can someone help me because there has to be a way to keep things organized by email account and respective subfolder.
    Thanks,
