Create text in a picture in PREVIEW, save it, then change it?

Hi,
I love how you can easily create text over a jpg image via PREVIEW.  I've done that - looks great, saved it . . . but then decided to change it a bit.
But when I open the picture again, how do I get at the graphics I've already created to just change it a bit?  For example, I just want to change the size or color of text I've already put there and saved!
It doesn't seem to let me "change" something I've already done?
I'm sure I'm just not doing something right?    Thanks very much!
Larry

Hi Eric,
Just spent 90 minutes with Apple.  Guess what?? There IS a workaround.  Take the JPG picture, export it as a pdf file. Put all your text boxes and graphics on the pdf.  Then save.  Quit!  Then you can reopen the pdf and guess what - you CAN still re-edit the very same graphics that you CAN'T do with a jpg!  If you want, when you're sure you're done, re-export back to jpg and all is well.  A perfect workaround.  Apple says virtually no quality loss going back and forth, either.  So why does this work perfectly with a pdf . . . but NOT a jpg?  It is NOT a bug!  Pdf files save using multiple layers, like Photoshop.  JPG does NOT!  When u save a jpg, it makes everything one layer - THAT'S why you can't get back into the changes you've just made!  It's not Apple's fault, rather a limitation of jpg.  So just try to keep it as a pdf, and all problems go away!  Or . . . use Photoshop!

  • Created text, now can't edit or select it???

I have created text using the typwriter tool, I selected it then copied and pasted it but now I cant select or edit either the original one or the copy. I find acrobat one of the most frustrating softwares I have ever used for simple task as editing text.
Any help would be really appreciated.
    Many thanks

    Hi all,
Many thanks for your replies, I did manage to work round it as LoriAUC sugested, I just found it very difficult to do what seems like a simple task, I was completing a form that I had recieved and one of the fields wouldn't let me put text in it correctly hence I used the typwriter tool. But sorted it now. I get that Bill2VT, it seems to be very limited in its editing capablities text wise, and I will have a look at the tutorials thanks Alec.
Again, thanks for all your help.

  • How do I save a picture in "Preview" to the desktop?

    Hello,
Now that I'm using Lion, I'm having to re-learn several things and right now I'm trying to figure out how to save a picture to my desktop when I'm in "Preview". In Snow Leopard, all I had to do was go under the File menu and choose, "Save As". However, in Lion, that feature is gone. Instead, it says: "Save A Version". I have no idea what that means. When I am viewing a photo, if I select "Save A Version", I do not see anything happening. Maybe it is saving my photo somewhere on my computer, but if that is the case, I have no clue where it is being saved. What I want to be able to do is "Save" the photo with a name that I choose to give it (not the default name of the picture as it was emailed to me), and I want to be able to save it to my desktop. In Snow Leopard, choosing "Save As" would bring up a dialogue window where I could accomplish these things. So my question is: How do I do this is Lion?
    Thanks!

Open your picture in preview then select file>duplicate then go back the file menu and then select save, the save options window will open you can choose to save it to the desktop.

Use Software Update to update your os to 10.6.8 and anything else that needs to be updated.  After the installations go to /Library/Preferences - trash the com.apple.Preview.plist file.  Repair permissions, restart your computer and empty the trash.  Your Preview issue should now be resolved.

One other note I do have parallels installed but not running on both machines.
Make sure on both machines that even if Parallels is not running that the two VPNs it creates in System Preferences > Network are set to Off.
Also make sure that in System Preferences > Sharing that Internet Sharing is nnot ON.
Later you will have to adjust the Parallels setting to NOT Share the Mac IP.

  • Copy and paste pictures from preview to ebay problem

    Hi.
I am creating adverts on eBay with my macbook and when I copy and paste a picture from preview, into the body of the advert it works fine and displays fine. I then save the advert and go to view it on my mac and all displays ok.
However my problem is when I view it on anything other than a mac. The pics just show up as a small block with a strange symbol in it.
    Anybody got any ideas?
It seems daft that I can create an ad on a PC and you can view pics no matter what machine you use, yet when I use a mac it's not the case. I hope it doens't mean I have to keep using my PC.
So you know, I have tried it with the picture file being a ".png" file and a ".jpg" file and it made no difference.
    Thanks
    Mark

Sorry to disagree but this isn't right.
I copy and paste on my PC and it works just fine to view on anything so if what you're saying is right then it would surely do the same on a PC.
Aslo it IS saving the image in the body of the ad because if I view it on another mac it displays correctly.
I'm not sure what you mean by you upload the pictures at the end. I want to type a bit about the product, then have a picture, then type some more and maybe put some more pics. Like this
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180637405596&ssPageName=STR K:MESELX:IT#ht1600wt1141
    or this
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180635082165&ssPageName=STR K:MESELX:IT#ht1266wt1141
The only difference here is these were created on a PC.
I must add on thing though. When I'm trying to add the pictures, I have them open in "preview" and I crop them by using the instant alpha cutting tool. Then I copy and paste it. I've even tried savingit as a jpeg file and a bmp file and makes no difference.
    Thanks

  • Is it possible to insert text in a picture in Lightroom?

Is it possible to insert text in a picture in Lightroom?

The text options are very limited.
Besides the watermark option mentioned already by dj_paige you can
    - add text in the Slide Show Module. Click on the letters "ABC" below the image and then select your text options from the drop-down menu. See screen shot.
Besides "Custom Text" as shown you can select any of the other options from the drop-down menu. You are not limited to one choice - you can (one after the other) select any combination from
the drop down menu. You can drag the text boz anywhere you want it to be and you can resize it and adjust the opacity.
When you are done you can export the iamge as PDF - Export as PDF works also with only one image, so it doesn't have to be a "slide show" with several images.
    2) In the Print Module the text options are more limited but you can add text in the "Phot Info" panel. Unfortunately you can't move the text around and can't change the size of the text box.
As in the Slide Show Module you can save the image from the Print Module by selecting "Print to File" which creates a JPG.

  • Highlighting Text in pdf Documents using Preview

Am using Snow Leopard (10.6.3) with Preview version 5.0.2.
Tried highlighting text using the instructions in Preview help. No success.
I click Annotate; chose the Highlight Colour but then appear to be unable to select the text.
    Anyone any ideas?
    Thanks

Thanks for the hint. I think I've just discovered why I cannot do it. The pdf document I'm trying to highlight is the result of the output from a scanner. Hence it is effectively a "picture" - not text. The only thing that I have been able to do is to choose Annotate and then choose "Add Oval" or whatever and select its size and colour and then position this over the text I wish to highlight.
Because it is effectively a picture you cannot select text. I tried it on another pdf document that IS text and your solution works a treat.
    Thanks again

  • How to create text buttons that link to video?

I've finally gotten around to trying DVD SP, and even though I read the whole manual, it's not at all clear if, or how, you can create text buttons that link to the video you want to play, without displaying a clip of that video in the button itself.
I have no problem creating a text button, but I can't change the font, and editing is counter-intuitive, unlike iDVD. I'd use iDVD, but it doesn't accept .m2v files, and it seems to think that my 6 videos of about 43 minutes each are too large for a DVD+DL disc, so it won't let me burn it or save it as a disc image.
Does anyone have a way out of this conundrum, or am I SOL?
    Mulder

    It really isn't that hard!
As Drew said, go into your menu and click and drag to create a button rectangle. With the button highlighted, look in the property inspector at the bottom and type in the text that you want to use. Ensure that you 'include in button highlight' and then set the colour choice for selected and activated.
What you get is a simple line of text which illuminates when you roll over it, and changes colour when you click on it.
Once that is done, click on the button area again and set the target to go to the piece of video that you want to have play back.
You should also set the menu call and end jump on that track to make sure your viewer can get back to the menu.
Once that is done the menu will show as a simple piece of text (more buttons means more bits of text, and the first button will be highlighted by default) and no video will play until the button is activated.
DVDSP is definitely a steeper learning curve than iDVD but for very good reasons. You get far greater control and access to far more advanced features in DVDSP. This means that some things will seem harder, whereas in fact they are just different and the process for achieving the result you want is different. Much of what you want to know is in the manual and also in the tutorials which came with the app. Failing that there are several good online spaces where you can find a lot more information... not least of which is right here, of course!

  • Error message while creating text object

I am trying to create a text object and text id's for an application. I go to se75 to do this and make a text object called ZABC and upon save I get an informational message saying the following:
Observe name ranges: Y,Z for customers, J_NC for partners, A..X for SAP
When I click the green checkbox, it pops up another box saying the object is not within the valid name range. Save anyway?
I tried creating one with Z_ABC and that came up with the same thing. What am I doing wrong here?
    Thanks,
    Josh

Read the information message carefully. Then proceed, if you intend to have custom  "standard" texts (sort of an oxymoron, but everyplace I've been does this)...
If you are working in a customer system, only create standard texts using the following naming convention:
Initial letter Y or Z in the text name with any text ID
    or
Initial letter Y or Z in the text ID with any text name

I am using Photoshop Elements 11.  Do all .jpg formatted file have to be retangular in shape?  I want to create an oval .jpg picture to insert into a book.  Haven't been able to do so.  It would work if I could make the area outside the oval completely transparent.  Can anyone help me here?

JPG does not support transparency, so even if you create an oval with transparent background, the saved JPG will have white background. Instead, save it as a PNG, TIFF, or GIF which preserve the transparency.
Here is one of many ways to create your oval:
Create a new file the approximate size of the oval. Add the oval with the Custom Shape Ellipse tool, and simplify the shape layer.
In the Layers Palette, Ctrl-click the oval to select it and copy the selection to the clipboard (Edit > Copy).
Then do File > New from Clipboard. This creates the oval with transparent background cropped to the oval size.
Then save it as one of the file types that support transparency (and also supported by the application where you are sending the picture to).
Note:  Is is not even necessary to do step 2. That is only if some reason you want the oval to be tightly cropped. It is sufficient to delete the Background layer in step 1 (or turn off its visibility) and save the file. The oval will appear correctly in the book with either version.

  • Why does Preview save as PDF version 1.3 instead of version 1.7 sometimes?

I've noticed something very strange in Mountain Lion when saving a downloaded PDF in Preview.  If I download a PDF to my downloads folder and open it in Preview and get info it says it's PDF version 1.7 and it's about 400 kb . If I then "save as" to my folder it saves it as PDF version 1.3 in a much smaller file save  82 kb.
Why is this happening when I use "save as" rather than just dragging and dropping it from my downloads folder to another folder where it keeps it as version 1.7 and 400 kb ?
Why would Preview save it as version 1.3 instead of the latest version of PDF - very odd?
    Thanks

    Lance000 wrote:
Etresoft - that doesn't seem right - are you sure that Mac's only option is to save a PDF v. 1.3 when there are PDFs that are already at v. 1.7?
I was sure, but I was wrong. Upon closer inspection, the "%PDF-1.3" you see in the PDF isn't the whole story. The actual version can be specified elsewhere. It seems Mavericks actually generates PDF version 1.4. Of course, that's not much difference, is it?
Generally, I think Apple is aiming for cross-platform support with the widest audience instead of all the advanced features that Adobe wants to throw in. Apple views PDF as legacy print technology. If you need more than what Apple provides, you can always buy Acrobat.
Here is an old marketing flyer from Adobe showing how much more you would get with Acrobat. It is from the Tiger era but you can see there is a whole lot that isn't implemented. But if you bought Acrobat, you would be in the position Apple doesn't want. You would create and send people PDF 1.7 files and they wouldn't be able to read them. What do you do? Tell them to buy Acrobat? It is a common theme here in Apple Support Communities whenever a new OS version arrives. People everywhere suddenly can't print, read PDFs, or do just about anything PDF related. That is because they had previously download Acrobat and it breaks with each OS update.

  • Creating text in VA01 and userexits

When I'm creating text in userexit USEREXIT_SAVE_DOCUMENT on header level it is working as I'm expected. Text is stored as my logic in userexit prepare it. When I put some text manually, before I'll save SO only this text is saved. This is strange, because I read first manually added text, I concatenate it together with this prepared by my logic and I'm updating it using SAVE_TEXT. Any idea why this happened. Could anyone explain my what stays behind text creation when saving SO?
In other words, I'm trying to add a personalized text at the end of text which use puts manually during SO creation and this is not working,

    Hi,
    There could be two reasons
    1. your text might be getting cleared when you reach the position where you are trying to concatenate
    2. You might not be in right place in UE as variables might not be getting copied that point of time...
Solution: Try to keep watch point for that variable(texts) and see where it is getting cleared or filled. then take the necessary steps accordingly.

  • How to Shift Multiline Text in a Picture ??

    Hi All,
I have written a MultiLine Text in a Picture using "Draw Text at Point" Function. How can I shift (right and left) my first line of the text in the picture without shifting other text lines in the picture ???
Please help it is very IMPORTANT.
    I am using LabVIEW 2011.
    Thank you so much.

You can use the Picture to Pixmap VI followed by the Unflatten Pixmap VI to convert the picture to a 2D array. You can now use the array primitives (Array Subset, Replace Array Subset) to move the pixels to where you want them and then convert back to the picture.
The other alternative, if the picture is newly created, is to just recreate it with the new values.
Try to take over the world!
