Create user like ias_admin user but with less previlege in Oracle 10g AS

I am using Oracle 10g AS(10.1.2.0.2).
I am using ias_admin user to admistrate it.
Is it possible to create one more user like ias_admin but with less previleges like Read-only previlege and if so whats the procedure.

If you are talking about creating additional admin users for AS Control for Oracle Application Server 10gR2 (v10.1.2), than that's not possible. It does not support role based access administration. You can do it though with EM Grid Control and AS Control in Oracle Application Server 10gR3 (v10.1.3.x).

U can't create a user starting with a numeric value. But as u mentioned
we can create it like "123". But I dont think while connecting we have to mention it as "123". Instead you can connect as 123.

Creating user accounts with OIDDAS and use them from the OS

I have a customer that is experiencing an error creating user accounts from OIDDAS, and use that user accounts from the operating system.
My customer is using OID/OAS4OS 10.1.4.2.0, and that version is not longer available to download, then, I will try in my own environment
with OID/OAS4OS 10.1.4.3.0.
And the question is the following: is supported to create user accounts with OIDDAS and expect that users can work with OAS4OS and be
able to authenticate in the operating system?

Nop, unfortulately I don't have a document with that. I just received that answer
from development (related to the plugin for AD that is not certified, and DAS is
not intended to work with OAS4OS).
Anyway, about the plugin to work with AD, this is working for me; at least I tested
it by configuring the plugin, I configured synchronization, the mapping file, I did
the bootstrap, and the accounts that were bootstraped now shows the OS attributes
on DAS.

Want attach the XML data file with layout template in Oracle 10g

I need a help from you genius guys.
I am genrating reports in BI with xml the procedure which I am following is as below.
1. generating XML from the RDF
2. creating a template in .rtf format
3.after that loading the xml to the template then getting the required report.
This all is doing through the given buttons
But now my requirement is to create the gui from user can select the report and get the desire output file so how we would be able to attach the XML data file with layout template in Oracle 10g.

I am using oracle 10g reports and I get something in it like one patch I downloded and one java code is having which creates the batch file ...still I am working on it ..

Problem with retrieving data from Oracle 10g / PHP4.3 / Apache 1.3.27

Hi,
I re-open a new thread following the opened post 'Getting RPMs for php-oracle for PHP4.3 on RHEL 4.0 and issue with OCI8 '
I could re-installed PHP4.3 and apache 1.3.27 from the normal tar package (./configure then make) - I had some issues with the RPMs packages before.
I could connect successfully PHP4.3 to my Oracle 10g DB with no issues by using some of the (deprecated) functions contained in oracle.so library in command line mode by executing a simple PHP script ;-)
But ...when I try to execute the same script (a simple log on to the DB) or the application throught my web browser there are some errors in the apache error_log file that crash the process:

After some investigations it looks like this is due to the connection of Oracle 10G and php.
I tried to recompile Apache as the following:
# cd /usr/src/apache_1.3.xx
# make clean
# LIBS=-lpthread ./config.status
# make
# make install
but the issue is the same ...
How can I workaround that issue and fix it in order to connect to Oracle 10 G by using PHP4.3 / apache 1.3.27 ?
I need to use the oracle.so library to avoid to re-rewrite all my application ...
Any help much very appreciated !

You are in unchartered territory. But check the common "gotcha" and
make sure that all the Oracle environment variables are set in the
shell that starts Apache. Load the script <?php phpinfo(); ?> in a
browser and see that whatever variables you need are set in the
Environment section. See the section "Oracle Environment Variables
for Connections" in Underground PHP and Oracle Manual
I suspect it would be beneficial to migrate the PHP code to oci8.
Check table 16-1 in Underground PHP and Oracle Manual for the mapping
between 'oracle' and 'oci8' functions.

How Do I Create User Account with "limited admin rights"?

Hello;
I would like to give a handful of users the ability to login to the DCC and enable them to add/delete/modify users and or hosts only, I.e. People and/or hosts.
Is there anyway to:
1. Make a user with this admin capability?
2. Segregate the containers they are able to modify?

BobM53, That would be needed regardless of what front end my users log in with, in my case I was looking for them to access the DIT via the DSCC/DCC, which is not possible. Regardless, thank you for your reply, it is reassuring to know I am headed in the right direction.
I am now looking towards installing something else like Apache Directory Studio, or some other GUI for users to manage the directory.
I will most likely create one or more ACI's to build groups, adding members to those groups as needed; each group being allowed to perform functions such as create users, lockout users, add/modify hosts, etc.
I will most likely follow the steps outlined in:
Directory Server Groups, Roles, and CoS - 11g Release 1 (11.1.1.7.0)
Slightly OT, does anyone have a suitable and similar proven method to "lockdown" root accounts, and who has root access?

GPO task run as user but with administrator right?

We need to change a Java setting in the appdata folder of a restricted user on hundreds of computer.
As they use different user but on local profile, we need to be able to run a task as User but be able to write in a folder that the user don't have access to.
We try to use the Schedtask and run it at the current logon user with the "Run with highest privileges" but this doesn't seem to work
Any input?

Highest privileges is only meaningful when the user is member of local
admins - then (and only then) the task will run with admin privs.
Might be a solution to use GPP files or GPP INI-Files or something like
that. These can run in user GPOs but with system privs.

DB hangs creating user but create table is fine (strange!)

We're not far away from bouncing the system due to this issue. I created a new tablespace on a 11.2.0.2.0 database then tried to create a user. The create user hangs. I previously did the exact same steps on 2 other databases on a separate server...no issues.
The alert log shows no issues. v$views show no locking. shared cache has no free blocks. Some stats: v$sga_dynamic_components

Many thanks for the workaround info, has been an excessive rebootfull adventure trying to set up Mnt. Lion with NIS authentication. I can assure you it's not your NIS server platform, have the exact same problem and log entries here using a PPC mini/Leopard OS X server as a NIS server, which works fine with 10.4-10.7 Macs, Linux, Solaris and HP-UX clients.... just not 10.8.1 via the console, hangs it completely.
I'll be getting a new mini/Mnt. Lion server this week, and will set up NIS there and - assuming the problem is still there - will log a call with Apple, my PPC Mini support ran out a *long* time ago....

Need Adobe Plugin that creates a view like 'story editor' but with text formatting

We would ideally like a third view in InDesign (other than the layout and story editor views) that behaves like MS Word's 'Normal View' ie. a long 'roll' of text like the story editor (no page breaks viewable) but with the text retaining its formatting (like layout view). Ideally anchored images would also be visible. This feature would be very helpful for us when working on long documents such as books when both content and layout is done from within InDesign. Does anyone know if a Plug-in like this exists? If not, would it be difficult for an InDesign developer to create such a plugin?

Newly created user packages with no admin rights

Have already opened a ticket with Novell on this one as i've never seen it before...
Have upgraded a site to ZFD7 SP1 IR2 using the iso's from the Novell site, so it's a full upgrade install, everything went perfectly on the server, consoleone snapins upgraded fine and all
however, if I try and create a user package with consoleone from the server, it hangs and never completes and I end up with packages with no rights for any users, so i'm unable to edit, delete or do anything with them
also tried using a workstation with IR4 snapins which gives the same result, using a spare consoleone with earlier zfd7 snapins I can create packages with no issues
Anyone run into this before and will we be able to get rid of these objects from the tree?
And are the IR4 snapins not compatable with IR2?

Can we create wallet at User Level to implement TDE in Oracle 10g

I am going to use a Oracle 10g TDE security feature for data security.I have gone through with lots document.Everywhere there is mention to open or close a Wallet at system level.I mean ALTER SYSTEM..that means except DBA no one can see the encrypted column.
But my requirement is bit different,I want to encrypt the column based on user.
lets take example- Suppose we have one table TEST with C1,C2,C3,C4,C5,C6 column and there is U1,U2,U3 user.I want to encrypt C1 and C3 for U1 , C2 and C5 for U2 , C4 and C6 for U3 and U1,U2 and U3 can see only all columns except encrypted column.
My question is Can we apply TDE at User level rather than system level.
Any ideas or thought would be appreciable.

The idea of TDE is to provide data protection on storage media, so when your backup tapes drop from the truck or the hard disk of a stolen laptop is sold online, encrypted data remains encrypted and can't be read by anyone.
It seems to me as if you try to achieve access control by encryption, which you don't need: If users have sufficient privileges or the business need to see data, then they should be granted access and see the data de-crypted. Otherwise, access control mechanisms (roles, views, VPD, OLS) should kick in and hide the rows from them.
So, for day-to-day business of your database, the wallet needs to be open, so that the database can de-crypt data for users who have been granted to see credit card numbers etc., but then limit access to credit card numbers they are not allowed to see with other measures.
