Hello,
Is there Java libraries to create Excel files from XML data, like FOP that creating PDF files ?
Another question : where can I find the javadoc of FOP's classes, particularly org.apache.fop.apps.Driver class ? Because I can't find it on http://xml.apache.org

Create .folio overlays with XML

Hi,
because I could not find anything about this topic, I wanted to ask this question here.
Is it possible to create overlays for .folio files with XML data?
I know there are special tags for images or tables, but how about overlays?

The current folio file format is an extension of XML laid over compressed image files.
There hasn't been much documentation on the scripting extendibility, but i have seen some good examples of CSS and HTML5 content. Unfortunately HTML5 and XML haven't been playing nice. We have loaded things like XML galleries (built with HTML and xml) from our own server and just placed them inside a HTML overlay (not a webview overlay). You could probably also do this with a "local html file" just make all the assets are there to grab. Using HTML overlays has been the current workaround for things like streaming video from an outside source.
You can also create entire articles from an HTML document, i havent tested that function myself so i can't comment too much on it (and the documentation is vague at best)
As far as loading XML data directly into the overlay creator-- I dont see how you could do that and not interfere with Overlay creator's own XML process.
Best solution... trail and error.

How do I create an interactive PDF file with variable data

We would like to basically do a 'mail merge' of our list of customers with an interactive PDF file (including videos, menus, etc - not just form fill out and web links) to create a single PDF file that contains multiple mail pieces ... one for each customer ... with each mail piece being customized for that customer. Customizations would include different greetings (Dear Bob, Dear Dana, etc), as well as different charts based on data unique to the customer, different photographs, etc.
I've seen that InDesign and Acrobat Professional can be used to create an interactive PDF (such as from http://tv.adobe.com/watch/ask-the-adobe-ones/14-calling-rufus-about-interactive-pdf-making). However I don't understand how I can insert data from a database, csv file, excel file etc into the PDF file so that each page, or each set of pages, within the PDF can be customized.
Can anyone point me to a tool to use for this?

XmlDataProvider .... is gone completely in my Xaml file. Why? How many different ways to deal with xml data source through WPF

I followed a procedure described in a book.
1. insert "Inventory.xml" file to a project "WpfXmlDataBinding" .
2. add the XML data source through the data panel of "blend for 2013", named it "InventoryXmlDataStore" and store it in the current document.
3. dragged and droppped the nodes from the Data panel onto the artboard.
Then I checked my Xaml file against the one provided by the book

Never do yourself down Richard.
Leave that to other people.
It's quite common for smart developers to think they're not as good as they are.
I coach a fair bit and it's a surprisingly common feeling.
And to repeat.
Never use anything ends .. provider. They're for trivial demo apps. Transform xml into objects and use them. Write it back as xml. Preferably, use a database.

That looks like it should work, but it doesn't.
I opened the PDF I had created from Word in Acrobat (X Pro). Went to File > Properties. Selected "Change Settings". I then enabled "Restrict editing...", set a password, set "Printing Allowed" to "none", "Changes Allowed" to "none", and ensured that "Enable copying of text..." was disabled.
I saved the PDF file, closed Acrobat, opened the PDF in Reader, and I was still able to select text and graphical objects.
I reopened the PDF in Acrobat, and the document summart still shows everything as allowed. When I click on "show details" (from File > Properties) it shows the correct settings.
Any ideas?

Hi Madhu,
You might also consider using Excel Spreadsheet XML as the target structure (namespace is urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:spreadsheet). When you double-click the resulting xml on a PC it automatically opens with Excel. So, users don't see a difference. It will open up a lot of options with formatting including creating multiple worksheets if you wanted to. Best of all you can stick with XML.

Creating .xls file Using Java I/O

Hi,
I am crearting a .xls file from a oracle database that support japanese charsets(i.e it has data in UTF-8 format). I am creating the file using below java statements:
1. Writer out = new OuputStreamWriter(new FileOutputStream("temp.xls"));
2. out.write(data);
So using above statements I am reading data in UTF-8 format and writing it a file using UTF-8 format.
But my created .xls files does not allow me to see japanese characters as they visible in a browser. But in place of temp.xls if I use temp.txt or temp.doc , then I am able to see the japanese characters when those files are view using TEXTPAD OR MS-WORD APPLICATIONS.
I have japanese font installed on my machine. So I am not understanding where the actual problem is with my way of file writing or with MS-EXCEL APPLICATION ....
Please suggest me some solution ....

Actually the way u have told result in the same. Even the file is .csv or .xls I am not able to see some japanese characters in my excel application provided I have japanese fonts installed on my machine. But when using the same servlet if i create an .doc or .txt file i am able to see japanese characters when i open .doc or .txt using MS-WORD OR TEXTPAD LIKE APPLICATIONS.

With OLE it is possible. Refer [Excel with Password|OLE2 Excel File Save as password protected;

How to create a report using XML data source from Crystal Report Designer

Hi,
Iu2019m having Crystal Report Designer XI R2 SP4. Iu2019m trying to create a report using XML data source stored on disk. This is a customer order report and the xml is structured in such a way that it has an order details header part (master) and then it has several order lines (detail). One order line can have several order line characteristics (detail-detail). So what I need to know is now I can design this layout from the designer. If this was done using views I can do it with sub-reports but using xml data this seems to be different. Can you help me to design this layout? I have included the xml and xsd as well.

Thank you for the response and ideas you have given me so far. I can get the fetch the data from the data source without any problem. That is I do the following,
1.     New Report
2.     From Create New Connection-> XML
3.     Provide the u201CLocal XML Fileu201D and have u201CSpecify Schema Fileu201D checked -> Next
4.     Provide the u201CLocal Schema Fileu201D -> Finish
Then I can see the following under XML

        CUSTOMER_ORDER_CONF_REP_REQUEST
     CUSTOMER_ORDER_CONF_REP_REQUEST/CUSTOMER_ORDER_CONF_REP

Then I come to the Linking section. Here I canu2019t link anything. There is a common field called u201CInternal_IDu201D but I canu2019t link using it. So I get a message when I click Next. From here I add all the fields.
For this point onwards only I need help. How do I group, add fields and design the layout so I can get an report output as follows.

To create multiple files with same content but with different names

Hi SapAll.
here i have got a tricky situation on Idoc to File Scenario.
in my interface of an Idoc to file ,there is requirement to create multiple files with different file names but with same content based on one Idoc Segment.
which means there will be one Zsegment with two fields in the idoc,where one field with (content refers to the name which file name should start with .so lets say if this segment is repeated for 3 times then PI should create 3 files in the same directory with same content but with different file names (from the filed).
so here for now iam using one reciever file communication channel.
can any body give me the quick answer.

What do you mean by different names?
when i make proper setting in the Receiver Channel....on how to create the filename (what to append) like add Timestamp, counter, date, messageid.....even in this case you will ahve file with different names and that too from same File channel.
You can perform multi-mapping in XI/ PI and then your File channel will place the files in the target folder with relevant names. You cannot use Dynamic Configuration with Multi-Mapping!
If you intend to use different File channels, then do the configuration as required (normal)...even over here you can follow multi-mapping.
Do not use a BPM!
