Created An iDVD Project on A Combo Drive iMac -- Help!   Can I Transfer?

I created an iDVD project an iMac with a Combo Drive. As I sent the slideshow directly from iPhoto to iDVD, I did not know until I was ready to burn a 240 picture slideshow. Is there ANY way I can move the dvd project (~ 800mb) off the iMac where I created the project to move it to an iMac with a SuperDrive?
Help!
Thanks!

Hi Grant
You can also burn a Disk Image to DVD via an ext. FW burner. Lacie makes a few models that work well on most macs. I built my own from a Pioneer 110 and an ADS 1394 Pyro enclosure. Not that expensive to make your own. Runs about half the price of a Lacie Ext. Burner and it requires No Drivers!

  • I am trying to create a idvd project but the it does not while encoding the films, Why ?

I am trying to create an iDVD project. I create to sub menus and put small films in each sub menu. When it starts to create the project, while encoding the films, at one point to time it just stops abruptly. Why. I fail to understand. I I tried twice, and it happened the same. I have created the projects in the past, but it has worked just fine. This time it is behaving rather weird.
I went on to see the report and I feels it stops with a 32 bit film. I may be wrong, but could you please help ?

See  Bengt Wärleby's post in this topic for questions relating to encoding problems: Stage 4 Multiplexing - Media error in...: Apple Support Communities. He's the most knowledgeable if that area.

Right click on your device in the device list and choose "transfer purchses" to copy all music bought in iTunes to your new iTunes library.
For all other media you'll have to use 3rd party software, examples are mentioned in this thread:

  • How do I delete an idvd project from my hard drive?  If I do so, will it delete the raw videos/images from iphoto or imovie?  Thank you

I understand that an imovie or idvd project will take up quite a bit of space on my hard drive, so after I create the movies on either program I want to delete them.  I can't figure out how to delete them on idvd.  Should I go to finder?  I'm so confused!

iDVD only uses pointers to the media, photos and QT files, that it uses in its projects.  So if you delete a movie that you used in it that movie will be lost to iDVD.
However you can use the File ➙ Archive Project... menu option and that will copy the media into the iDVD project package. Then if you delete the movie file the archived project will still have its copy of the movie to use.
You won't be able to go back and make any changes to the movie if you do this.  So wait until the project is complete and burned to disk before archiving and deleting the movie files.
Personally I would get an external HD and save those movies and other files that you might want to delete from your boot drive because you never know when you might want to go back and make changes.  Once they are deleted you can't go back.

  • Saving and reopening an iDVD project from a hard drive - HELP!

Hello! I am a moderately experienced user of iLife and am starting to use it for a business(memorial videos, sports highlight videos, etc) My problem is this: After I finish a project and export it to iDVD I want to save it to my external hard drive and store it there(like a file cabinet for all my finished projects, so that I can come back to them later, if needed) and I am having difficulty when I do this and then go back to open it - iDVD can't find my files for the pictures and sometimes the audio and video. This said, this is my process: Create project in iMovie, export to Garage Band to create chapters, export to iDVD.(this is 08 BTW) At every step I save to the desktop. Then when I am finished burning my DVD, I create a folder(eg., Bob and Kate's Wedding) on my hard drive and put all the media from the desktop in that folder(eg, the iMovie file, the Garage Band file, the iDVD file and a folder of the pictures I used also.
If anyone can shed some light on a better process, or maybe a reason why I cannot just go into my hard drive and double click the iDVD project and burn extra copies, that would be fantastic!
I appreciate any insight. I love doing this work, but with 3 kids, I rarely get time to research the answers to my questions outside of this board!!!
    TIA - Lis

    Hi Mamalisa
iDVD can't find my files for the pictures and sometimes the audio and video.
And welcome to apple discussions. If you plan to do further modifications to your iDvd project then follow these steps. (btw, iDvd doesn't like it when you change the actual location of video / audio assets once encoded / burned to DVD-R unless it's saved or rather archived beforehand).
On the other hand if you plan no further changes then you may wish to follow this instead of the above.

  • How do I delete old iDVD projects from my hard drive?

I'm sure there is a simple answer to this but as I have messed up things in iPhoto before by deleting the wrong files which caused lots of problems when trying to open the application, so I just want to be sure before doing anything bad . I am still trying to get my head round where iDVD and iMovie keep all the files.
I want to reclaim some space on my external hard drive. I have 3 iDVD projects and their related iMovie movies that I no longer need to do any more to. I have made disc images of each and burnt some DVD's of these projects therefore I don't think they need to remain on the computer. Can I delete the projects by dragging them to the trash from the folder I created to store them and then do the same with the associated iMovie projects? Will this leave the disc images intact in case I needed to burn further discs from them? Will this leave any confused links in iDVD that will affect the application. I also have the burnt dvds as a further back up so these projects are now just taking up space.

Yes, you are on the right track here. Disk Images are entirely independent of any other files. You can trash any of your iDVD/iMovie project files and it will not affect your disk images.
When I create disk images I give them very distinct names ... like Bob's Video Disk Image ... so it is easy to distinguish them and I always store them in a Disk Image folder ... just to cover my youknowwhat

  • Archived an iDVD project to an external drive but can't access it

My DVD player on my MacBook Pro is broken so I'm trying to transfer an iDVD file to my Mac mini so I can burn DVDs. I tried archiving my project to an external drive and everything seemed to work normally but the project doesn't appear in the finder window for the external drive on my ProBook or mini. I tried changing all permissions to "read and write" but still doesn't work. The only place I can open the project is in iDVD on the ProBook.

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
      1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.

  • Create an IDVD project

I am trying to assemble an iDVD to burn to DVD. I have converted two imovie projects to IDVD. I have created a third iDVD project into which I have imported 99 slides and 3 pieces of music as background to the slides. I had hoped that I could drag the first two iDVD projects on to the window of the third and burn. I have done this before - creating a disk image before burning.
However when I drag the extra projects onto the window i get the message "IDVD does not support your last action".
Could someone give me some some help please.

    Welcome to the forums.
You can drag your iMovie projects into iDVD, but you cannot drag other iDVD projects into iDVD. Since these are all iMovie projects, you should be in good shape to have all three on one DVD (if their total length is under 1 hour, you'll have the best-looking result)

  • New - Burning iDVD projects using External Lacie Drive

My current eMac only has DVD-R capable drive and I a Lacie Firewire DVD External Drive with ability to burn DVD Double Layer.
Question how do I get iDVD to use external drive instead of internal drive to burn iDVD Projects?
Current option I can come up with is to save projects as a finished DIsc Image and then burn finished project with the Lacie.
    Open to any help...
    Thanks

    Hello Cseijisan,
does your burner show correctly in System Profiler? If so iDVD should recognize it.
When you hit burn, iDVD should give you a little drop-down menu where you can choose your burner.
Current option I can come up with is to save projects as a finished DIsc Image and then burn finished project with the Lacie.
That is in any case a recommended procedure. Not only can you preview your DVD that way before actually burning, but it also helps eliminating burn errors, which might result from iDVDs inability to let you control the burn speed. Disk Utility or Toast are much more reliable burn apps.
    hope this helps

  • Trying to import video to iDVD project......help

I was given a disk to add the videos on it into my idvd project. Below are a copy of the file types. I am not able to copy it or get it to the idvd project. Are these files compatible, readable or possible to incorporate? This is for a team presentation on Saturday and the videos are really needed. help.... thank you, donna
    VIDEO_TS.IFO
    VIDEO_TS.VOB
    VTS010.BUP
    VTS010.IFO
    VTS011.VOB
    VIDEO_TS.BUP

Those are the files of a completed DVD.
You need to convert the VOB files back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
which is free, but you must also have the Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.

  • I am waiting for a new iMac with two drives: SSD   conventional hard drive. How can I transfer only a certain number of applications to the SSD and the rest to the physical hard disk drive?

I am expecting a new iMac (i7 with SSD). How can I transfer only certain applications along with the system, library etc. to this limited (space) HD and other applications to the conventional disk HD in order to save space on the SSD?

I have the same scenario, using an SSD for my start-up drive. I have copied my Applications folder to a mechanical hard drive and created symbolic link to it. The symbolic link resides on the SSD and works properly.
That may not be the best solution.  Many updaters expect apps, especially Apple apps, to be in the  /Applications folder on the OSX drive;  if there are updates, the apps may not be found, thus may not be updated.  I don't know if the installers/updaters will follow a symbolic link or not.
DItto some apps, especially Adobe apps, won't even work if they're anywhere else.  Again, I don't know if they'll follow a symbolic link, either.

  • How to stop iTunes creating a new library on my hard drive when it can't find the one I have created and told it to use on an external drive?

I have quite alot of music etc so to save hard drive space I have created my iTunes library on an external hard drive. If I ever accidentaly open iTunes when that external hard drive isn't attached iTunes makes a whole new library from scratch on my computers hard drive. I find this highly frustrating as I often open Itunes to find no music as it have changed librarys and I have to re-load my actual library: very frustraiting and time consuming.
I would like to know if it is possible to lock iTunes some how to stop it from changing folders when it can'f find the library, or atleast give me a warning that it can't find the library before creating a whole new one????

Tunes works through a database file which has a list of your tracks.  When you click on a track it looks up in the database which file it needs to play, then plays the file.  If something breaks this link then you get !  The two main ways to get ! are to move a file from where iTunes expects it to be, or to delete it altogether.  I don't know which has happened in your case.  You can try using Spotlight to find a file for the one referred to in a broken link.  If the files have been moved then they need to be moved back.  If they were deleted completely you will have to restore them from a backup or download them again from the iTunes Store and rebuild your library.

  • I have all my old photos from my PC on a Maxtor external hard drive.  How can I transfer them from this to my Macbook Air?

I'd like to transfer my old photos from my PC which are stored on a Maxtor external hard drive to my Macbook Air.  Is there an easy way of doing this?  I don't know if the Maxtor hard drive is Windows specific or if it's compatible with Mac.  Anyone know?

It should be fairly simple.  The Maxtor should be recognized as "read only" since it's formatted for windows.  Connect it and in iPhoto select, iPhoto > File > Import to Library..   > Point to your external hd.

  • I have Mac OS 9 on a flash drive. How can I transfer it to an OS X computer?

Do I just drag the System Folder over? I don't want to partition the hard drive, though.

Yes, just drag it over - no cloning required with OS 9.
However - do not expect your iBook G4 to be able to boot to that copied OS 9. All iBook G4 models can not boot to any version of OS 9.
Provided that the OS 9 system folder is for OS 9.2, 9.2.1, or 9.2.2 and is a complete OS 9 System Folder (that is, was bootable on the original machine it came from), it should work fine as Classic under OS X 10.4.x.
If the OS 9 System Folder is one originally copied from an OS 9 Install CD, it will not work as Classic.
