Does anyone know why with Edge Animate CC 2014 it's not possible anymore to animate elements of a html file created in Dreamweaver? With Edge Animate CC 3.0.0. this was possible.

I now have a project that seems to be corrupted. A had been working on it all morning, with a few bugs here and there. Now I can no longer open the file, receiving this error: "Edge Animate: Exception An error occurred. Please your work and restart Edge Animate."

Editing pages created using dreamweaver with microsoft's visual studio express

Here's a quick, somewhat vague, question for anyone who might have an answer. Is there a trick to editing pages created using dreamweaver with Microsoft Visual Studio Express? The reason I ask is I recently finished a web site for my first client who now wants to make edits herself using the program she uses, that being Microsoft. I thought it would be as easy as pulling the html files from the server (or the usb flash drive i gave her), making changes and then putting them back to the server, but apparently she is having some problems. I'm meeting with her soon. I have no experience with any other programs, other than Adobe, so I don't know how much good I'll be in helping her. Maybe it's an easy question, maybe not. Any info appreciated. Thanks!

Hi David, I meant the templates with the dwt extension, not the html files that are created from them. The full version of VS will recognize the dwt extension as 'Dynamic Web Template' but as this is a microsoft extension it does not recognize the code for editing and shows a large number of errors, (before anyone comments the dwt file extension is used by a number of other programs, all referring to a different file type).

Edit Sub Menu Created With Dreamweaver

Does anyone know how to edit a sub menu that was created
using Dreamweaver? I need to link a new page to the sub menu but I
can't seem to find anyway to unlock the menu to amend the link.
Alternatively, one of my pages appears to be stuck on the server
saying that it is being edited by Macromedia Contribute after I
tried to publish it (this is the page I've re-created but can't
create a link to) so does anyone know how I'd re-set it or
something? I had thought of uninstalling Contribute then
re-installing it but I don't know if it'd make much difference?

Open the template for this page (Select Modify > Templates > Open Attached Template) and add these comments into the <head>...</head> section:

You have probably deleted these comments when creating the template. These lines allow Dreamweaver to add code into the <head> section. Save your template and say Yes to allow the changes to pages that use this template (or just to the pages you want).

Extra indent in source code created in dreamweaver

When I open a html file created in dreamweaver with a browser
and view source code from the browser, there are extra indents
added to the source code.
For example, if I write a line of code in dreamweaver
[tab]<p>one indent</p>
it becomes
[tab][tab]<p>one indent</p> in a browser
Is there a setting in dreamweaver to make this from

We've got two separate issues here, but I think we have the solution to both.
1. How to stop Contribute from adding blank lines in the code, and
2. How to clean up a GAZILLION lines of blank code in a document.
First, Number 1. I assume you're working in Dreamweaver. If not, I'm not sure how to guide you. But, when you define a Contribute Site, there is an area to specify administrative roles and permissions. Under each Role, at the bottom, you will see a popup for what kind of server the site is hosted on. The default is Windows. I had to change this to Unix (Linux) to match the hosting of our problem site. Find out what platform your host is using. You will have to specify this under each admistrative Role. After doing this, I had the client make some edits, then I opened the files in Dreamweaver. No new blank lines. I admit, I still have my fingers crossed somewhat.
Okay, now how to clean up your source code and remove blank lines. A developer friend found this on some forum I had not seen. I don't know where, but I am grateful to the person who wrote it. It didn't get all the blank lines in my files, but I think some of the others, which I removed manually, were probably from the client pasting content in from Word. Here's what to do:
1. Open the file in Dreamweaver
2. Click CTRL + F, or go to EDIT > FIND AND REPLACE
3. Select "Current document" in "Find In" (You can also select the folder if you have multiple files.
4. Search in "Source Code"
5. Check the box labeled "Use regular expression"
6. Type "[\r\n]{2,}" (without quotes) in "Find"
7. Type "\n" (without quotes) in "Replace"
8. Press "Replace All"
The operation chugged for a few minutes with my 301,000-line document. Yours may a take a little longer, but it did work. Good luck!

Can DWCC use my website files created on dreamweaver 2004?

I have a website I created on dreamweaver 2004. I have changed computers and the disc is obsolete (no way to register it anymore), therefore, I was wondering if I purchased dreamweaver cc, are my old files compatible?

HTML is still HTML and editable in any code editor. But a LOT has changed in web standards since 2004. The code DW MX generated was fine in its day but that was a very long time ago.
You can download a no-risk 30-day trial of DW CC. Keep in mind that this product assumes that you know HTML and CSS code.

Animating AP elements created in Dreamweaver

I brought into Edge Animate an html page I created in Dreamweaver that has some AP elements. Using Edge Animate I animated the elements—just made them move slightly as the page loads. Two out of three elements animated fine when viewed in Google Chrome. The third element animates as desired but has relocated itself to a different place on the page than in Animate. It's correctly located in Edge Animate, but is in a different place when viewed in the browser. What am I doing wrong?
I also found that if I try to place new elements on the page—e.g. a rectangle—it comes in behind the Dreamweaver AP elements and can't be brought to the front using the Arrange menu. Is there any way that elements can be added to an imported html page in Edge Animate on the topmost layer?

Looks to me like whoever built the site used fragments of code from different sources along with MS Office.
If the person had used Dreamweaver instead, it would be a whole lot better code-wise.

Import html pages created in Dreamweaver Cs3

I have many pages for online training created in Dreamweaver.
Can I import them into Captivate somehow? I have created them with
templates. Will those templates work in Captivate?

import those pages but should be able to record them as you
display them.
Even though they were created using templates I'd be totally
surprised if you were able to use them (as templates) in Captivate.
Dreamweaver is a totally different animal than Captivate is.

Site created in Dreamweaver is stuck on Flash upgrade

This site was created in Dreamweaver CC. Every functioning aspect of this site works perfectly and acts normal when previewed offline in a browser.
However, when I complete an upload of the entire site and bring the url up in my browser, I get a white page with this message:
Please upgrade your Flash Player.
Already have Flash Player? Click here if you have Flash Player 6 installed.
I am on a Mac running OS 10.9.1.
Any help would be most appreciated.

I'm not seeing it. Only your Gallery page appears to be using Flash. Do you have the latest Flash player installed on your system?
FYI, Flash is pretty much dead these days since the world's most popular mobile & tablet devices can't support it. To reach a wider audience, you should replace your Flash slideshows with jQuery. Cycle2 is a very nice plugin. http://jquery.malsup.com/cycle2/

Hm - there is only one PowerMac G4 without a line-in - it's called "PowerMac G4 (Digital Audio)". Take a look at this document:

In this case, you can really only input sounds digitally. The cheapest solution would be to get an iMic USB device (maybe that's what your husband had - look at the pic. Older models were more like silvery), it comes for < 40 $, and you can plug a microphone into it (with the small 1/8" plug). Not super-great sound, but for that mic it should be good enough.

No, iWeb cannot open or change existing sites no matter what other program created them.

Can a website created in Dreamweaver 5.5 be maintained with Contribute 6.5?

I have a client who I have advised to purchase Contribute to maintain the website I created for her. When I go to Adobe I see version 6.5. Would she be able to use this newer version to make her updates even if i created the website and all its editable regions in Adobe Dreamweaver 5.5?

You need to ask them whether Contribute can interpret HTML and CSS codes correctly and whether editing of these codes is easier to do in Contribute or some other HTML editors.
My personal opinion is that people should use dedicated HTML/CSS editors to edit web pages but my knowledge of contribute is almost ZERO.

Why is target="mainFrame" for my buttons created in Dreamweaver CS6working in Safari but not Firefox

The navigation buttons work perfectly in Safari, guiding the selected pages to the desired frame called mainFrame, but in Firefox they open in new windows.The code appears to be correct so I have no idea why Firefox isn't working with my files correctly.

I urgently need to find out how to apply behaviour to images in my webpage. Created with dreamweaver and linked J Query stylesheets.

I have created a web page with a photo gallery of thumbnails that link to bigger images when you hover over them. When the bigger image opens there is an odd shape at the bottom right hand side , that when pressed, will take me back to the home page. But its not the correct sought of button or symbol. I dont know how to set this up properly. I have linked J.Query style sheets. But must have missed something. Can anyone help??? this is my first web page design. It is all done except for this.

Very sensible advice. However, the second sentence in the following statement is incorrect:
1. Make sure that you have updated all recordsets to the latest (CS4) version. Older ones created before the GetSQLValueString function was introduced are vulnerable.
The GetSQLValueString() function has always existed in Dreamweaver server behavior code. However, versions of this function prior to Dreamweaver 8.0.2 are vulnerable to SQL injection.
Unfortunately, you can't update older server behaviors simply by deleting the old version of the function and replacing it with one from DW 8.0.2 or later. Other small changes were made in the server behavior code for compatibility with the revised function. PHP server behaviors created prior to DW 8.0.2 need to be deleted and rebuilt. Yes, it's a pain, but far less of a pain than being hacked.

Template File created in DreamWeaver Looks ok. But when a new file created with this template shows disordered

I created a template file in DreamWeaver cs5. It is OK. and it looks like this, with Pink box showing the editable region. http://smsoftsolutions.com/downloads/test.jpg
Now the problem is, when I create a NEW html file from this Template, in the DESIGN view, the template contents are shown in a flowing mode. ie. Absolutely positioned DIVs are showing in a disorderly way, as shown in this screenshot. http://smsoftsolutions.com/downloads/test2.jpg
When I preview it in browser, it is showing as I expect. But only in the design mode, it is showing in a relatively positioned way.
Can anyone tell me what I should do in the dreamweaver settings, to show the layout in a WYSIWYG way?

Table created in Dreamweaver with CSS not positioning correctly

I've created a simple 9 page website using Dreamweaver and CSS. I am no pro but I can edit some in the code. I'm really enjoying the CSS but for some reason I cannot find out why my tables appear perfect in Firefox but not in Chrome or IE. The tables are centered properly but they appear way below where they're intended to be!
I've tried to paste my code but can't, is there somewhere I can post it?

After struggling with this last night I took a look again this morning and narrowed down and corrected the problem. Basically, this is what happened to cause the issue and how I resolved it. Hopefully it helps others in the future.
Steps
Create project in Windows version of Cp (I was using version 8.01).
For my client's requirements, which are quite unique and complex compared to the typical Cp project, custom quiz questions/scoring had to be developed. Since these are HTML5 (non-responsive) courses, and Javascript is the fastest/most efficient way to do this, I used Javascript extensively for quizzes via the 'Execute Javascript' action. So for quiz questions, each answer is simply a smartshape (transparent, with answer text in it) that triggers the 'Execute Javascript' on click. In addition, on many of the quiz slides there are Edge Animate/HTML5 interactions embedded.
Worked fine on windows upon publish. But when I opened on a new Mac and published, when a question answer was clicked nothing would happen.
Turns out the problem seems to be with the text in the Javascript window. I think it somehow gets corrupted, though it looks fine. I had to literally delete the javascript, save it, and then copy it back in. Once I did that, it works.
I've invested too much time in this project so far, so don't want to risk any more major issues popping up like this, so I switched back to Windows and canceled my subscription this morning. Fortunately I have a license from my employer for Windows and will just use that with Boot Camp.
