Creating 2 page spread in portrait mode...

I plan to do my folio only in portrait mode. I have noticed in various digital publications (like Fast Company) advertisements that cover what would be considered a "spread" in the print world.
It is my assumption to do this the "ad" would need to be suppled or created in two diffrent files. One file would have the left hand side of the page and the other the right hand side of the page (perfect splice of course).
Then they are uploaded as seperate files then once the folio is created the end user would just swipe from the left hand side of the spread to the right. They appear as sepeate pages in the quick view mode. Repeat process for 3 page 4 page portrait only spread etc..
I'd also like to make a lead spread for a story. I assume take this approach (mentioned above) and the right hand/second page of the spread would be connected to the document that includes the full editorial.
Am I missing anything? Or am I wrong in my perception of how to create these portrait only spreads
Another way I thought of creating spreads is just to place a image (built to 1280 x 720 ) into a scrolling text box on a single portrait page and have the user swipe in a horizontal direction only and then they can swipe down  to read the full editorial.
Sorry if it sounds elementary but I just want to double check my assumption on how its done before laying it out and want to tell my advertisers once they decide to supply a 2 page spread ad for the first time as many of them are used to creating traditonal print spreads.
thanks in advance.

Your thinking is right. Your best approach is to split them into two pages and upload them as separate articles. If aligned well, from the reader's standpoint, it looks like a two-page spread when reading.
Putting it into a scrollable frame is problematic as the user won't be able to swipe horiziontally to the next article. The scrollable frame will catch that horizontal movement and use it to scroll the content inside the frame.

  • Why do some pages disappear in portrait mode?

    iBooks Author 1.1
I created a new template page when I authored a book. I added this page to the end of several chapters. When I preview the book in ipad the page shows up in landscape mode but disappears in portrait mode. It is composed simply of two text fields.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you,
    Scott

Not sure whether this applies to your sitation, I suggested this as a last straw…
Click on the layout page for the affected pages in the top section on the pane on the left. In the inspector, click the layout tab and select the layout pane. Near the bottom is a tickbox "Shared with portrait layout".
I tried to attach a screenshot, and Safari lets me select an image to attach, but the "Insert" button remains greyed out. I tried jpg, tiff, and png, no luck. I've attached images before and noticed that I sometimes have to try two or three times before the "Insert" button becomes active after selecting an image. This time, it didn't work at all, sorry.

  • Problems viewing all page content in portrait mode

Have just tried authoring first iBook using templates and when viewed in portrait mode I get titles of pages but content is missing so have to go to landscape mode.
There seems to no way of starting at front of book as it opens automatically at page one  and only scrolls forward. To ensure continuity and visuals do I author in portrait or landscape mode.

Layout in landscape....edit in portrait. Verify in both.
Note some elements have a 'share in portrait' attribute you can set in the Inspector.

  • Trouble figuring out how to use Portrait mode.

I have a book that I have already contructed in paperback form and now I'm wanting to make it into an ibook using iBooks Author.  My book was originally done in an 8x10 format so I'd like to contruct it in portrait mode.  I would like to be able to make each page of my book to be the hight and width of the ipad sceen and no more.  I would then like to be able to side swipe with my fingers in order to go to the next page, all in portrait mode, much like you would see if you had a PDF file loaded into your bookshelf.
My book is picture and design heavy and I'd need the formatting of the page to stick to its original design or close to it. I know the ipad screen isn't 8x10 and Id obviously have to do some reconstruction to make it look right on using the ipads dementions.  For an example of the
The problem I'm running into with iBooks Author is it seems to be setup for landscape view only.  When I try to use Portrait view it gives me this endles well, isolating the top portion of the page for the chapter reference.  When I load it into my ipad, instead of being able to side swipe my fingers to change the page I have to just keep scrolling down.  What am I doing wrong?  How can I get it to work like a PDF would but actually be able to take advantage of all the iBook Author fatures like widgets, glossary, chapter selection, and such?  Here is an azample of a page from my book.  Is this type of book layout possible?

Thanks for the answer Ken. I'm going to try a different workaround. The global was too slow, and I think I'll break my subVI into two parts. I'll create a sub that has all the setup stuff in it, then embed the actual "check trigger status" loop in the main VI. The loop contains only 2 or 3 nodes. Too bad LabView works this way. I can see one reason it should, but another larger reason it shouldn't. Wishlist.... Oh, speaking of wishlist, I like the improvements that 6.0 has brought, but one thing still bugs me. There's no way to have LabView remember the place to look for files when it's first started. It defaults to "My Documents", which should be, as all LabView programers know "LabVIEW6\user.lib" (or whatever). Of course, once th
ere, LabView remembers for that session. Next time it's started, back to "My Documents" again. How 'bout fixing the "Options", "Path" settings so that it will actually remember the path set? Am I missing something here, or does it have anything to do with the fact that we're using Windows 98? My buddy's using NT, and his works the same. Is there a way around this? TIA, Rob.

  • How to make a video that "rotate" in portrait mode as some videocast?

    hello,
long time Apple user, first message in this cool forum.
    my problem is simple:
    -i have a iPhone
    -a car
-a dock for iPhone in the car in portrait mode (it cant rotate)
i was wondering if i can add to some of my videos the possibility to rotate like some podcast (Apple quick tips for example) in order to watch a movie in portrait mode when the iPhone is in the dock (and i' am not driving).
i found a solution that is to import a movie in iMovie, rotate 180° left and then export to iTunes, but this take sooooo many hours even in a new iMac
    can you help me please?
    tks

I believe I have the same question. I have created some movies in portrait mode. It seems the default for videos on the iPhone is landscape mode, and this makes the 'portrait mode' movies so much smaller. I am looking for a solution so I can play back these movies in portrait mode. We are talking a small number of movies, only 10, but they are important for work and I'd like to be able to show them at the larger portrait size. This would come in very handy at conferences during work related conversations.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

  • HT1040 I am just about to order a 92 page book in Aperture and have previewed the order and found that in the PFD file I get all the pages are now different. Double page spreads are now on 2 different pages when viewed in 2 up continuous mode in Adobe Rea

I am just about to order quite an expensive 92 page large size  book in Aperture & have used the Preview button and on viewing the book in the PDF using the 2 up continuous viewing mode  I find that the page arrangement is all wrong with double page spreads now on separate pages and all my carefully designed pages in the wrong places. Will the book actually get printed like this? Regards,Keith

How did you create the preview of the book? It will look exactly like shown, when you press "Buy Book", then "Preview Book". This will open the Preview of you book in the "Preview" application. Set this to "Two-page mode". Then you should be able to see your double page spreads correctly, like here:

  • Fixed layout ePub page turn not working in portrait mode

    Hello all,
First time poster here. I created a childrens book, full color ePub from the Apple 3.1 ePub template. Everything sems to work great in general.  But I wanted the book to be in portrait mode only to get the most out of the graphics. I have the package.opf file set for portrait mode, which shows just one page (correctly), but when turning pages the cool page turn animation does not work when testing on my iPhone5 and an iPad2.  Pages just slide left or right.  But when I change the opf to allow landscape mode, when testing on iDevices, it shows two pages at a time in any mode and the page turn effect works perfectly.  Any way to get the page turn animation to work on just a single page in Portrait mode? To add to it I have an ePub example book from a non-Apple publisher that defaults to single page portrait, and is mostly text (so I'm not sure if its fixed layout or not), and the single page portrait mode allows the page turn animation to work perfectly.
    Thanks all!
    EDL

The small caps are wrong in Source Sans Regular. This are not correct small caps . This seams to be missing in the font.
But in italic style you will find correct small caps. They only work in InDesign not in ePub.
And if you look in my images (first from InDesign, second from Radium - iBooks looks the same) you can see many difference between InDesign and ePub.
Note the word "pfiffig", the I at the beginning of "Igor" in second paragraph and the "a" in the italic paragraph.
    This is very frustrating!

  • Is there a way to create and edit a video in portrait mode / 9:16 in Premiere Elements 12 or 13. Playback on an iPhone in portrait position.

I'm editing iPhone app video for posting as the first screen in the Apple app store. Required size for the video is 750:1334, 9:16. I there a way to setup the initial video in portrait mode? Many posts for how to rotate a specific clip, but I need the whole video in portrait position. How to accomplish this? I'm using Windows 7 and Premiere Elements 12 and now 13.

Thanks for giving this portrait Edit area monitor shape a look.
I have Windows 7 64 bit and Windows 8.1 64 bit and have done the work using Premiere Elements 12/12.1 on Windows 7 64 bit.
Here is a step by step
Find the DSLR [email protected] file
    Local Disk C\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 12\Settings\SequencePresets\NTSC\DSLR\1080p\
And, in that 1080p Folder is the DSLR 1080p30@ 29.97.sqpreset file that you seek.
    1. Copy the
    DSLR 1080p30@ 29.9.sqpreset fileI
and paste it to the computer desktop in a newly created folder named 1920p.
    2. Open the 1920p Folder and edit the ..sqpreset file in Notepad.
To do that right click the .sqpreset, and, from the pop up, select Open With and then Notepad.
    3. In the Notepad document, you are going to edit in only 2 places for now, switching 1920 and 1080 to 1080 and 1920 at the top and bottom
    sections of the Notepad document.
Then go specifically File Menu/Save of the Notepad document and hit Save.
    4. At this point, you have the edited.sqpreset file in the 1920p Folder on the computer desktop.
(Change the name of the edited .sqpreset file so that it = DSLR [email protected])
Move the 1920p Folder from there to add it to the 1080p Folder, the location where you found the original .sqpreset file that you edited.
    Close out of there.
    5. Back in the Premiere Elements 12/12.1, manually set the project preset to the new project preset
    6. When you import your 1080 x 1920 9:16 video file into the project and drag it into the Timeline, you should see
Note that there is no orange line over that Timeline content, indicating that you are seeing
the best possible preview of the image.
    7. As I wrote before,
But, here is the hang up. If I render the Timeline content to get the best possible preview at the Edit level, the video in the Edit area monitor
squeezes in resulting in black borders to the left and right of the video image on screen.
But, otherwise I found I had no problems editing or exporting, just had to keep away from Timeline rendering for previewing after an edit. Need to find the missing ingredient for 100%.
I will be writing this up in my blog in a more organized fashion including how I got the project preset description in Change Settings to agree with the changes. Probably I will do that in the morning.

  • How do I create a double page spread in a booklet layout on InDesign with out splitting my design and putting them on two separate pages?

I'll try my best to put this in the most simplest way,
Im trying to create a magazine, but I'm finding it difficult to make a double page spread without splitting it in half and putting it on different pages?
Is it possible to set the pages up so they are side by side, and then change them to the right order to print?

Just set them up as letter size pages in reader order. If you are having it printed professionally, send it as a pdf with separate pages, and the printer will handle setting up the printer spreads. If you are printing it from an office printer, both InDesign and Acrobat have Print Booklet functions. Many office printers also have this capability built in.

  • Widget disappears from section page in portrait mode.

    Thank you for your help.
I have a section page (iii) at the begginning of a book with a gallery of 12 photos. I have titled it and written a caption for each photo. Yet, when I switch to portrait mode the widget disappears. There is no image on the side. I have a title on the page in a text field, but I have no text in the main body text field (I'm using the the "Foreward" section template).
What's happening? I've downloaded two books about iBooks Author today but have yet to find a clue as to what I am doing wrong.
    Thanks again.

Just an extra tip: Make sure when you insert a widget in LANDSCAPE mode that you find the little Blue Bullseye circle and place it's cursor where you want to anchor it in the text, that way, it will be in the correct place when you go to PORTRAIT.

You need to do the basic troubleshooting steps described in the User Guide, Appendix B.
    Restart phone
    Reset phone
Restore in iTunes using a backup
Restore in iTunes as new, without using a backup
If restoring as new doesn't help, there is a hardware failure in the phone that needs evaluation by Apple.

  • Pages aren't published in Portrait mode

    I'm finding this quite confusing.
In the iBooks Author help, it says that Chapters, Sections and Pages are published in Portrait mode, but I can find no way of having Pages show up *unless* they are contained within a Section.  (I want my book to work in both Portrait and Landscape modes).
So, a Page that is immediately beneath a Chapter is not published in Portrait mode.  It's simply not there.  Switching orientation makes it show up.  I really don't understand the thinking behind this, but it raises the question of how I should be structuring my book in which I don't want to divide Chapters into Sections.  All I want is a heading (Chapter) and Pages within those Chapters.
Should I just forget using Chapters and use Sections instead?  What are the fundamental differences between the two?  Perhaps I should just make every single page a Section?
Lost ... but hoping for some guidance.

  • Unable to print entire page in portrait mode

I am using Firefox 5 and running Windows 7. For the last year maybe, I haven' t been able to print from my browser in portrait mode; on a letter-size sheet, the printing fills only the top half of the page and within that, only half of the page. I can print in landscape fine.

I have a HP Scanner which allows me to create PDF documents. I have these very important documents about "My Learning Disability" the issue is that some pages are printed in Portrait and others are in Landscape. I really need to know if its possible to create a PDF with my specific needs? I have the latest addition of Adobe Acrobat Reader.
    HP SCANJET G4010
Currently when I scan the pages are all portrait which makes some of them sideways on my Monitor
    Thank you Very Much

Reader cannot create PDFs. You'd need to ask in the Acrobat Forum, as your scanner probably uses it to make the PDF.

  • Fixed-layout ePub displays one page no matter in landscape mode or Portrait mode

    I use the code :

This is the code you use to tell iPad to display in landscape mode.

Replace the brackets to carets and you're good to gol  Name the file:
