Creating 2nd IWeb site

Hi everyone
This has probably been answered somewhere but I would like it in simple terms as I am a simple lad. I currently have 1 site on iweb http://www.swanhuntershipyard.co.uk
What I want is to create another site which will be used to promote my other photography work and will go under the name of http://madiephotography.co.uk
Is it just a simple case of going into Iweb 08 and clicking on file then creating a new site?
My worry is that I will loose my 1st site when I update the 2nd site. Will this happen or will they run side by side?
If anyone is running more than 1 site on Iweb 08 successfully could they give me a idiots step by step guide on how to do it. I would really appreciate the help.
Many thanks

As already mentioned you can have multiple sites in either a single MobileMe account or another hosting server. I found it best to have each web site in its own domain file. I use iWebSites to manage over 45 individual sites. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your original Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process and move it to another location on your HD until you're satisfied the separation process is completed and what you want.
This lets me edit and publish only the site I want.
When you setup domain name forwarding to your second site and it's hosted on a MobileMe account the URL for that site would be:L
http://web.me.com/youraccount_name/sitename

  • Can I Set Up a 2nd iWeb Site?

    Hi,
I was wondering if you are able to set up a 2nd iWeb Site. My Daughter has a site but I'd like to set one up too for myself. Any help would be great!
    Thanks in Advance,
    XMTitan

    Hi,
if you and your daughter have different accounts on the computer there is no problem in having two sites. Your site will show up on iWeb in your user account and her site will show up on iWeb in her user account. If you want to make a site which is independent from your daughter's site and don't have different user accounts on your computer you just have to have two different Domain files (where iWeb stores its files User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites2 ).
If you don't want to have a completely independent site and don't have different user accounts on your computer open iWeb go to File=>New Site
Site=>Index where people choose which site they want to visit your daughter's or yours
    Site1=>Your daughter's
    Site2=>Yours
you then can publish to the same .Mac account or host.
The only problem that could happen is with publishing two independent sites to the same .Mac account. One site will overwrite (thus delete) the other. That problem is not happening with using two different .Mac accounts or by publishing to two different hosts.

  • How do I create two iWeb sites using a single .Mac account?

I would like to create two distinct sites/URLs using iWeb and a single — not a family — .Mac account. Is this possible? If so, what are the basic steps?
When I read related forum posts, it would seem to me that one site would overwrite the other site when I publish. Yes or no?
    iBook 1.2 mhz, G4   Mac OS X (10.3.6)
    iBook 1.2 mhz, G4   Mac OS X (10.3.6)
    iBook 1.2 mhz, G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   iLife 06

I would like to create two distinct sites/URLs using
iWeb and a single — not a family — .Mac account. Is
this possible? If so, what are the basic steps?
If you just do the obvious and use File > New Site in iWeb, you do create two distinct sites with different urls. However, you cannot exactly duplicate page names in the sites or publish changes in one without publishing changes in the other. The short default url web.mac.com/username/iWeb normally goes to the top site on the list within iWeb.
If you create two sites with distinct names in different accounts on your machine, they should not overwrite each other, and they should also have distinct urls. However I think that the
index.html file which tells browsers what to do with the default short url web.mac.com/username/iWeb may get confused, so that deleting that or modifying it manually might be desirable.

  • 2nd iweb site

I am ready to post my second iWeb site to the mobile me network. I want to purchase a separate subscription and keep the site separate from my personal site on the mobile me network. I currently keep the web domains separate so I can access and the second site is currently hosted as part of my personal site and subscription.... ready to separate and not sure how to handle most efficiently. I have not purchased the separate account yet.... waiting for advice. Thanks.

To add to Roddy's post I use iWebSites to manage multiple sites.. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
This lets me edit several sites and only republish the one I want. Since your sites are already separated it will be easy to enlist iWebSites to manage them.

  • Classroom creating one iWeb site

I have a class of about 30 students. If I create one .Mac account, can they all post pages to a common iWeb site using the same account info?
Each student will have their own pages that they are responsible for, so overwriting pages by other students shouldn't be an issue.
Their domain files will travel with them as part of their networked accounts.
Would .Mac Groups help at all?

If you are using iWeb08, there will be difficulties encountered trying to publish from multiple Domain.sites files, (i.e., multiple computers), to the same .Mac directory. iWeb08 (2.0.1) will erase previously published sites on the iDisk with another site published from a separate Domain.
The easiest workaround is for the students to all configure their computers to the same .Mac account in System Preferences, and then from iWeb on their machines, publish their sites/pages to folders, using the Publish to a folder... command in the file menu. They would then drop these pages into the Sites directory on the iDisk, and the urls for these pages would simply be:
    homepage.mac.com/accountname/nameofpage
If you are wanting all of the students to be able to update the exact same site, they would all have to share the same Domain.sites file, which is not practical at all.
If they were all using iWeb 1.1.2, they could publish separate sites, from separate Domain.sites files, to the same .Mac space on the iDisk. They just need to make certain that each site is named differently...I can already see pranks executed, where a student learns/views the site name of another student, and then intentionally overwrites that site with another version of that site's name.
You sure you want to moderate such a situation?

  • Creating independent iWeb sites. How?

Im having a brain freeze here.
I cant remember the way to force iWeb to create or go to a new domain file on start up.
Ive done it in the past and cant remember how I did it.
Do you hold down option on start up?
Do you have to move the original domain file in the library to force iWeb to create a new one?
I want to be able to switch between my domain files so I can keep my separate websites lean and mean.

Thomas ~ +"iWeb looks to the last place where it opened a domain file first. If there’s a file in that location named domain, it will open it. If not (meaning you moved it or renamed it) then it will prompt you to create a new one or locate one that already exists. It doesn’t matter if it’s named “domain” or “mycooldomain” or “mywebsite”. The name is irrelevant."+ ...Quoted from this article:

  • Import sites to a Mac that already has created its own iWeb sites

Working different places I have been using iWeb on 3 different Macs. On these Macs I have created different iWeb sites, and now I would like to merge them all onto one computer, so that I can work with all of my iWeb sites from the same location. I have tried to find a way to import the sites from the other computers which I have backed up onto an external harddisk, but there doesn't seem to be any. I can easily enough move the content produced on one computer to another but that just deletes the iWeb content on the computer I am moving it to which is no good as I want to keep it.
And now we are at it: Is there a way to publish just one of the sites created in iWeb, so that you don't have to publish all seven of them every time you alter or update one of the sites?

As Wyodor mentioned iWebSites may be what you want. If your 3 sites are separate files then iWS is just the ticket IMO. Rename the three domain.sites2 files with the actual site name: site2,sites2, site2.sites2 and site3.sites2. Put them all in your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb file and launch iWebSites. From there is pretty self explanatory.
I use iWebSites to manage multiple sites.. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your original Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process.

  • How can I export one iWeb site (of two) out to another user

I am working in Lion. I created two iweb sites - one for me and one for another user. I am trying to export the files to that user so he can continue updates. But when i make copies of the site it is linked to my site. How do I separate and export the files to him? Thanks!

    HI Ben,
Unfortunately the other website - let's call it Charles - is not listed separately - it has somehow joined with mine. So if I delete his I delete mine. Something happened when I upgraded to Lion and they became joined' somehow.
I do see the file in Library but I still don't know how to separate them.
    Thanks!

  • Can't see my iweb site. please help

I have just created an iweb site which worked fine and was able to visit using the safari button on the bottom of the iweb page which directed me to http://web.me.com/mmerry/Mikes_Inks/Welcome.html
I have added a domain name ‘mikesinks.com’ with go daddy which worked fine to start with but now when I go to the safari button it directs me to http://web.me.com/mmerry/Mikes_Inks/Welcome.html along with the message Safari can’t open the page “http://www.mikesinks.com/Mikes_Inks/index.html” because Safari can’t find the server “www.mikesinks.com”.
    this also happens in firefox.
    please can someone help.

    Try it without the "
    http://www.mikesinks.com/Mikes_Inks/index.html
Use the shortest URL possible to arrive at your site.
    This will work : http://www.mikesinks.com/Mikes_Inks/
    This will work : http://www.mikesinks.com/
And this link : http://mikesinks.com/ uses URL forwarding.
    Use forwarding to : http://www.mikesinks.com/

  • Help Moving iWeb site to a windows PC

My objective is to create a site using iWeb and move that site to a standalone PC and use Firefox to read the site folder and run the site. Not needing any internet. The files are too large anyway.
I have created the iWeb site with many videos from iMovie. In iWeb I have "published to folder" and then I point Firefox to the folder and browse and check all the links and videos. It all works fine on the Mac.
The first question I have is that I assumed the "publish to folder" would contain all the needed files for the site (including the videos). In looking at the folder that was created, it only contains the pages, etc. Not the actual videos. So part of the question is that when I move the site to a PC I guess I need to find and move the videos also? What about the directory structure that iWeb is expecting?
The second question is how to get this large site to a PC? Someone recommended connecting the Mac and PC with an eithernet cable. Someone also suggested using a portable Harddrive formatted as FAT32. Too big for a thumb drive.
If someone could guide me through this I would appreciate it.
    Thank you.

I assumed the "publish to folder" would contain all the needed files for the site (including the videos).
    That's correct.
In looking at the folder that was created, it only contains the pages, etc.
It should also contain folders, with names like pagename_files and Media, that contain images, videos ,etc.

  • Re-building iWeb site from deployed website?

    Hi,
As described in my earlier post (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1249767), I managed to lose some files during an aborted effort to upgrade to Leopard. Included were my iWeb sites. Now the sites themselves are still available on the internet, so theoretically, I could go through and re-create the iWeb site by hand.
I'm not really looking forward to doing this, as you can imagine, so I'd like to know if there's any way to re-create the iWeb files based on the website itself.
I was using iWeb 1.0 at the time, but I now have the new version that came with iLife '08 if that makes a difference.
    Thanks.
    Ben

Maybe I should have been a bit clearer. I realise the iWeb site format is different from the live version. What I was wanting to know was whether there is a way to convert the live version to something that iWeb would understand. I don't know if such a reverse-engineering tool exists, but that's what I had in mind.

  • Move iWeb site from iBook to iMac

I've created an iWeb site on my iBook and would like to transfer it to iWeb on my iMac...How do iDo this?

    TreySaskia,
Your site on your iBook lives in a file called 'Domain', found in your Home folder Library:
    Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain
Duplicate this Domain file (Command+D) and transfer it to your iMac; placing it on a usb flash drive is a popular method as you can just double-click on the file after mounting the drive and iWeb, in either machine, will open it and you can access, edit, and publish changes to your site. You could use an external hard drive also. Remember to rename the file 'Domain' from 'Domain copy' after duplicating it.
    Hope this helps out.

  • How to transfer an iWeb site from one MobileMe account to another.

I am creating an iWeb site for a friend. I am doing this using my mac and my MobileMe account. I understand that the iWeb site assets are all stored in my MobileMe iDisk. I want to take the finished site and transfer it to my friends computer and his MobileMe iDisk so he can manage it from there. How do I do this.

If you have your friends MobileMe login details, then you can publish the site to his MMe account directly from your Mac. Go to System Preferences and log out of your MMe account and then into his and then go back to iWeb and then publish the site directly to his MMe account.
As far as giving him the ability to manage the sites, just give him the relevant domain file for the site. Go to User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites and find the domain file and then you can e-mail it to his Mac and he can then put the domain file in the same place on his Mac.
Whatever you do, don't publish the site to your desktop - you won't be able to do anything with it. It is the domain file that you need if your friend wants to manage and alter the site in any way.

  • How to copy/paste iWeb site

    Hi!
    3 questions...
    1) How do I copy and paste my existing iWeb websites pix and text and links and so forth into a newly created iWeb website?
    2) How do I create new iWeb site name
    3) How do I delete the old site?

The only inane question is the one not asked. The best way to backup your web site is to make a backup copy of your Domain.sites2 file that is in the User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. Varkgirl has an Automator work flow that will copy it to another location of your choice. I believe you can find it on  Varkgirl's iWeb Tips and Tricks site or use this link to directly download it: Click Here. I believe it makes a zipped copy of the domain file and moves it to the location of your choice. It can take a while depending on the size of your site.
Since I have over 45 individual sites I use a backup application to backup it up after each time I edit and/or publish. After the initial backup the application, Synk Standard,it only backs up those new or changed files in the domain file(s). Much quicker that backing up the entire file(s).
If you have an external hard drive you can just drag the domain file to it after each use, replacing the previous one - if you don't have a backup program.
It's all one big learning curve here in the discussions. Some of us are just on a different part of the curve than others. Good luck.

  • Built iWeb site for friend with my account. How can I transfer site to his?

Hi everybody. I recently finished creating an iWeb site for a friend while using my MobileMe account. What's the best way to transfer this site to his MobileMe account (so his username, etc. shows up in the url; not mine). I'd like to avoid having to rebuild the entire site while using his version of iWeb/MobileMe.
Am I in trouble or is there a solution?
    Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Will your friend be maintaining the site once it's published to his MobileMe account? If so just copy the domain.sites2 file containing his site to his computer and put it in his User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. Once he logs into his MobileMe account via the System/MobileMe preference pane he can make changes and published them to his account.
If you also have a site in that same domain file, duplicate that file, open it with iWeb and delete your site before transferring it to your friend's Mac. Then delete his site from your domain file leaving just your own site. You can delete his site from your MMe account by mounting your iDisk, going to the iDisk/Web/Site folder and deleting the folder that has his site's name.
