Creating a book: view all photos by events

When building a movie, you click on the camera icon and access all your photos in iPhoto, by event, album, whatever.
Why can't you see them that way when building a book in iPhoto?
The dropdown for photos in your build window not only doesn't show ALL your photos, it is really buggy about what it shows.
It offers All Photos in Project, Placed Photos in Project, Unplaced Photos in Project, Last Import, Last 12 Months, Flagged, and THEN randomly lists ONE event... and even when you click on that event, it doesn't always pull THOSE pix. So, then I started trying to TRICK it to show what I needed. VERY annoying.
And, since the iMovie program already has that set up, WHY can't it be that way in iPhoto.
The presumption seems to be that, if you are building a book in iPhoto that you've already identified all the pix you want and have created a separate folder or something. But, sometimes the book might be a representation of say, 20 years of marriage, or something like that, and you want to be able to peruse all your event folders...
PLEASE can this be considered?
I am going to post this directly to Apple too, but thought I'd vent here.

I may not have been clear in my description.
When building a book, the bottom right corner of the screen shows icons for Add Page, Layout, Options, and Photos. When you click on photos, the ones that are available are as listed in my previous post (All Photos in Project, Placed Photos in Project, Unplaced Photos in Project, Last Import, Last 12 Months, Flagged, and one randomly selected event), but it's not a list of events, albums, etc, like it is in iMovie.
In addition, as noted previously, the actual images that appear when I select that randomly selected event aren't always the ones from that event. That appears to be a bug.
So, the question I posed isn't about how to view photos in the main iPhoto module, but in the BOOK module.
Does that make sense?

  • How can I view my photos in "Events" like in iPhoto? How can I create events?  I have 55,000 photos and 1700 events so the only way I can possibly manage my photos is using events that are one slide in size.

I have 55,000 images organized into about 1700 events. The only reasonable way to view my library is using events in iPhoto where each event has one image That still leaves 1700 images to sort through but that is a lot easier than 55,000 images.  In the side bar is a folder with "iPhoto Events" but those views still show all of the slides.  How can I create events and view my photos as events as in iPhoto?  Events are critical for large libraries and has been my primary way to sort images.
    Thanks!

I had a problem a couple of months ago when iPhotos suddenly rearranged the order of my Events (Why won't iPhoto let me arrange my photos?) .  I was told "Use albums not events - events are not a good way to organize - albums and folder are designed for organisation and are very flexible".
Haha!  I should have paid attention and read between the lines!  My iPhotos were highly organised groupings - not according to date but the way I wanted them - and it was so easy to do!  I see now that if I had them all in albums, as per the Apple Apologist suggestion, I wouldn't have this unholy mess I have been left with just to make iPhone & iCloud users happy.  I am now going through Photos and making Albums (of what used to be in my Events)  ... maybe I'll get this finished before they do another non user friendly update!

  • Want to view all photos in an Event, at once

I want to view all photos, from an Event, at once without scrolling down. When we got this, I remember looking at all photos together. Now, if I want to click and drag to another page or to iMovie, it wont let me. I can't put in trash either. Is it possible to view all to decide which photos to put on a video/movie? I am frustrated with this and have searched help topics and so on.

Welcome to the Apple user discussion forums
It sounds like you may have changed the display to show a single photo - look in the lower right hand corner of the iPhoto display and slide the little slider there to the left to show more (smaller) photos in the display

  • Unable to view all photos in version 8.1.2. Can only see last 18 month.

Unable to view ALL photos in V 8.1.2  Only able to view past 18 months.

    Wild guess:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • How can I view all photos from a specific year?

How can I view all photos taken in one calendar year like 2010? Is there a way to filter this way?

Yes, create a smart album or a search with a "Date" rule or a Calendar rule.
For example: New > Smart Album
    Add Rule:  Date
         Capture year is 2010.
    or: Add Rule: Calendar
and click-step  the year back to 2010:
In the Calendar it is a bit cumbersom to select a whole year, because it will only show 3 month at once. Select the first day and then scroll to to the end oft the year.

  • IPhoto 11: How to view "all photos" while in full screen mode

In iPhoto, when it's not in full screen mode, if you click photos in the sidebar (under Library), you get a nice view of ALL your photos, and you have the option to sort them by event. When you go from this view straight to full screen mode, it stays this way, which in my case is particularly useful since I like to move photos around from event to event. However, staying in full screen mode, as soon as I click an any other of the menus at the bottom (events, faces, places, albums, projects), I cannot find anyway to get back to the "all photos" view, other than to take it OUT of full screen mode, click on "Photos" in the side bar, and then go back to full screen mode. Either I am missing something that is glaringly obvious, or this is a rather annoying oversight by Apple. It seems like it would be natural to have "Photos" be one of the options along with Events, Faces, Places, Albums and Projects in full screen mode. Right now the only work around I've been able to come up with (aside from going back and forth with fullscreen mode), and to hit "command F" while in full screen mode, and then type "i", which will give me what I am want only because all my photos start with "i". Not a very elegant work around, I know, but perhaps I am missing something very obvious.
    Thanks for any advice!
    James

In case my description isn't clear, here is a screenshot of exactly the view in full screen mode I am talking about  that I can't seem to return to once I leave it, other than to go back to non full screen mode or use the search trick.

  • How to view all photo's in an Aperture project using Front Row?

My projects have folders below them where I actually store the photos. In Front Row I cannot select a "top level folder" (let's say a project in Aperture) and press the play button on the Apple remote. Instead, it drills down into the project/folder until I have reached a folder that doesn't contain subfolders anymore. The effect is that I cannot simply see all photos in a project.
I suppose I can work around this by creating a dummy folder in the project, copying all photos of the project into that folder and use that to view it in Front Row, but I'm hoping there is a setting somewhere that would circumvent this stupid behavior?

    Hello Keaux2r,
Do you mean that you want to use command to remotely check the updates?
We could use the PsExec tool to conduct the remote control.
    1. Download the tool and copy to file to C:\Windows\System32
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897553.aspx
    2. Run cmd as administrator
    3. We could run the command psexec \\<computername > -u <username> -p <password> <command> to run command in remote computer.

I have many photos in an event that have a variety of dates.  I would like to change all photos to the SAME date.  All I can figure out to do is change the first photo, but then all of the other photos are time-shifted and still have different dates.  Other than changing the date of each photo individually, what can I do?  Thanks!

  • Not all photos in Event got synced

I found that not all photos in my events were synced into my iPhone recently, but it used to be ok.
I have already selected to sync "Selected albums......include ALL event" options in iTunes.
The event folder itself was synced but not all photo in the event get synced to iPhone, just some of them. Anyone got an idea on what happen ??
    Thanks.
    3Gs, 3.1.2
    iTunes latest
    MacOSX 10.6.2 on MacPro

Well...first a quick question, any reason why you have not updated to 10.6.2? Your profile indicates you haven't installed the combo update, which has a number of bug fixes. You might want to first repair permissions, then install the update, which can be obtained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL958. Once done, repair permissions again & check for any updates to iphoto, if that's what you're using.
Then, lets see if we can fix this mess. I'd suggest first removing ALL photos from your phone by un-checking the various albums or folders you have selected in itunes and hitting the APPLY button. Once you've confirmed that there are no photos on your phone, delete the photo cache on your computer, again, as described earlier. Then launch isync from your applications folder & under preferences select reset sync history. Once complete, reboot your computer, launch itunes, connect your phone, select what photo albums you want and hit apply.
Are any of these photos in a music slide show? If so, try disabling or removing the music BEFORE you try and sync them back.

  • How do i view all photos on ipad that haven't been added to an album yet?

I have over a thousand pictures on my iPad. I want to sort them into albums. But I am running into difficulties.
    (1) After adding a bunch of images to various albums, I am sure I missed a few. Is there a way to just see ONLY those pictures that have NOT yet been added to any album? Can this be done in Photos app, or do I have to buy iPhoto or something else?
    (2) Is there any app that can overlay on top of each image thumbnail a set of icons where each overlaid icon represents one of the albums that the photo is currently in?
    Thanks.

No... the whole point of my question is that I want to organize my photos on my iPad prior to putting them on my computer. I have a lot of "dead time" on the bus/train/plane where using iPad for this would be ideal. I find it shocking that it lacks this basic capability in the built-in software.
Surely there must be an app which can access the images I've already imported to iPad using the Camera Connection Kit, and allow me to sort them out into folders or albums. Photos app already does most of what I'd like it to do, but it does not let you filter images by which albums they don't belong to. I.e. you can't see which images aren't sorted into at least one album yet. Photos app also lacks metadata viewing/filtering/tagging/rating. Heck even my PS3 can show metadata...!
I am constantly mystified at Apple's lack of what I would consider pretty basic features. There are some ideas, like the classic Mac GUI file/folder desktop analogy, that to me are timeless. I have yet to see the benefit or advantage to iOS's crippling lack of the ability to work with files in a logical or direct way. I do understand how letting the app itself organize its own documents into directories itself helps it keep track of files for the purposes of using CoreData to create more informative views and organizational structures. However in Unix there are abundant ways to have this cake and eat it too -- you can do what TimeMachine does, which is to create hard links to files, so any given file can simultaneously exist in multiple different folders without necessitating duplicated data. Why can't Photos app therefore let me organize my files into folders the way I want to, in a standard, Mac-like way, without disrupting its own DB, simply by usig hard links or symbolic links, or something like this? Why not have file system layer that refers to each file by a UUID instead of by a directory path?
I am so tired of the gimped file system of iOS. First they said it was for security on iPhone. But then when iPad came out and it was the same way, then the excuse changes to, "People just like it better this way, and so should you." Wait, so 1984-2007 didn't happen...? You can't suddenly act like the Macintosh desktop analogy is suddenly an irrelevant bad idea. Just because people suffer through the lameness that is iTunes File Sharing, doesn't mean they universally would like it better if they could just access their files right in the Finder instead of through a kludge-funnel.
