Creating a brochure

Hello folks,
I have been ask to design a brochure for roofing company. They want it to be done in professional matter, so I am wondering whether iWork is design to produce professionally looking brochures and flyers? The idea is, that I would do the design and deliver the file to printshop for printing.
What I am concern is a compatibility of finished PDF file with print shops, how to set preferences to achieve 300 dpi resolution for final print, etc. I am wondering - shouldn't I design that brochure with Photoshop instead.?? Or how was your experience regarding the final printed material?
Thank you so much for any input.

Hi Bohumil,
Welcome to the forum.
This has just been discussed just the previous post:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2215883&tstart=0
Please do not produce a brochure in Photoshop!
It is like using a bottle to bang nails.
Unfortunately Pages is more like using a grapefruit.
There are very good reasons why people use qualified Graphic Designers who in turn use Indesign and QuarkXPress to produce commercial print.
A good way to find out exactly how much skill and knowledge is required to produce competent commercial print is to DIY.

One really useful tool I've used (and still do) for learning InDesign (and lots of other stuff) is to search Google with a concise question and the word InDesign in it. You may get more than you want, need, or can deal with, but you'll be seeing responses from this forum's posts and other Adobe.com resources, as well as from lots of other non-Adobe sources "out there."
Here's an example: how to create a brochure in InDesign

Does this essentially mean there is no way to fix this problem on my end? It's a pity because the design and branding of my brochure will suffer if I remove transparencies and use different fonts. It also concerns me moving forward because it means the quality of print on my pieces will be significantly lower because most commercial printers use Adobe products.

  • Creating PDF brochure for printing: Remove white margin

    Hi guys,
I created a brochure in Idesign which has a black background color.
In order to print the brochure I want to create a PDF (with the right order of pages, e.g. page 1 next to page 8, 2 next to 7 etc.) via the "print function".
The page order is not a problem, but unfotunately I always get a white margin although there is no such in the original indesign document.
(When using the normal "export function" of Indesign there is no white margin, but then I cannot create a PDF with the right page order for printing...)
Has anyone an idea how to solve this?
Thanks for your help in advance!
    Best,
    Chris

In order to print with bleed you generally need to print onto a larger sheet and trim. I'm guessing you are trying to print this on a desktop printer of some sort, and unless specifically designed for "borderless" printing they always have a border along the edge that cannont be imaged.

I can't find it either. Pratgeek, what was the name of the application you used in Ubuntu? Is there a website for it?
probably a kind of necrobump, but i've been searching for flowchart drawing software, and found this topic.
well, mentioned tdfd is the part of software suite called TCM available at least in debian/ubuntu.
it appears to be really old, i could found only user guide and ubuntu/debian package pages on the web, but it appears to be working quite well.
i've installed it on my ubuntu machine just half an hour ago, but it seems to be at least worth to play with, and i'd even make a PKGBUILD if i like it.

  • Creating PDF brochure for printing: Black color adjustment

    Hi guys,
I created a brochure in Idesign which has a black background color and in addition also some pictures with black backgrounds.
In order to print the brochure I want to create a PDF (with the right order of pages, e.g. page 1 next to page 8, 2 next to 7 etc.) via the "print function".
The page order is not a problem, but the black background color is rather gray instead of black - so there is quite a difference between the black background color of the pictures and of the whole background.
(When using the normal "export function" of Indesign I know how to solve the color problem, but then I cannot create a PDF with the right page order for printing...)
Has anyone an idea how to solve this?

Your images all use some form of Rich Black for the background, and that prints using all 4 CMYK inks. Your 100%K background will almost always seem gray next to that because it is, in fact, lighter. This will be true even if you use a profile conversion to make it also a 4-color black.
You can make your own rich black swatch and use it as the background (sample a few of the images to get some idea of a good mix), but in truth your images are still  probably not going to match all that well. Images tend to have color variations across the background, and your ID background is a flat color, so even a slight mismatch can cause the edges to be obvious. There can also be differences in color on some printers caused by differences in the way raster and vector content are processesd.
I prefer to embrace that, or at least admit it is going to happen, and either use a completely different color for the background so the mismatch always shows, and looks deliberate rather than like a mismatch, or I add a stroke to the image frames, often paper, to break the continuity and disguise the mismatch.
As far as imposing the file and exporting, there are a number of free scripts, and an actual plugin, IDimposer which is also currently free, that can impose your file for you before you export. You can learn more about the plugin at Overview | IDImposer

  • Creating a Brochure for Pages

I'm working on a theater brochure for my college. Anyway, I'm curious if there's a step by step method somewhere to create one from scratch or more templates available online. Thanks in advance...
    rick

    Free templates are available from:
    http://www.iworkcommunity.com
    Higher quality commercial templates:
    http://www.stocklayout.com
    http://www.jumsoft.com
    http://www.keynotepro.com
    http://www.keynoteuser.com
    http://www.keynotethemepark.com
Since creating a brochure is both a technical and a design process it is difficult to suggest a "Step-by-Step" guide. Study the templates provided and actual copies of material you admire and try to deconstruct them.
Apple provides good video tutorials on using Pages, available under the Pages' Help menu.
As always ideas, taste and experience are recommended, but rarely employed.

P.S. A word of warning, read the posts here before going off expecting to print the brochure commercially. Pages is not built for this.

  • How do you create a brochure for a website that is interactive and opens like a real brochure?

I've created a brochure in Indesign. I can make it interactive and have the pages turn like a book, but I want it to open like a brochure. How can I do this and with what program?

Next we'll want folding pieces represented on a screen that represents the unfolded piece of paper behaving like a pdf, behaving like a folded piece of paper.
    It's like inception!
    I use BoxShot 4 - you can save a 3D pdf.
It doesn't allow folding - but gives it a good idea.

If you're starting from scratch learning InDesign, know that it's difficult to learn just by asking a few questions. You'll do much better either by buying an excellent, inexpensive book by Sandee Cohen:
    InDesign CC: Visual QuickStart Guide
Or by watching some videos on www.Lynda.com. Here's the best introduction:

  • Can I create a brochure (11x17) that includes photos/text with Elements?

I'm considering purchasing Elements. My main need is to create two or three brochures a year for the nonprofit I volunteer with. Is that possible - and, more importantly, advisable - to attempt with Elements? I'm a mac user.

I would recommend you take a look at the free Open Office utilities from Oracle which has publishing, PDF, spreadsheets and word processing all included. PSE9 would be ideal for image editing and for inserting into those documents.
You certainly want to avoid Quark Express or Adobe InDesign CS5.5 as you will almost certainly be paying for features you will never need.

  • Creating sales brochures with a Mac Pro

I'd like suggestions for which software I should get to build sales brochures, flyers etc. I'm not a graphics person and have been frustrated with microsoft word and power point which seem very limited. I need something that is very easy to use but is flexible enough to let me customize with a specific brand font and color scheme. Any suggestions?

That would be a function of a Word processing program or something like MS Publisher which is only for Windows, IIRC. Although there might be a similar program for OS X.
I don't think the built in Text Edit would give you what you are looking for. So you would need either Apple Pages, MS Word/Office or one of the free open source Office programs. Or of course a program specifically designed for this type of publication created to run on OS X.

  • Help with creating a brochure

    Hello all!
I have Pages 2.01r2. What I am trying to do is turn my A4 document into an A5 brochure (e.g. made of A4 landscape sheets that are folded twice).
Can Pages do this? If so, how?
Thanks a lot for any suggestions!
    Artemiy.

    Artemy,
you cannot do this directly with Pages. However, create your text with Pages and then use CocoaBooklet which does the rest of the job.

  • Creating a brochure/booklet that has one page that folds out?

    Hello,
I am trying to use Indesign for the first time,  I have created a travel brochure that is around 30 pages (3.75" * 8.375")
anyway I need one of the pages to fold out so the final unfolded page would be 3.75 * 3,  with print on front and bak... how?
    Thank you,

    Your example is missing....
    You have to ways:
    1. Create separate file for cover and make it dfferent size. That´s actually good way if you use different paper for cover, thicker or glossier etc. Because then your printhouse has to print it separately anyway.
    2. Use so called "Island Spread" which means create extra pages for your foldout (one for both sides), uncheck Allow Documents Pages to Shuffle from Pages panels menu and drag your 1. foldpagethumbnail in Pages panel to coverpage´s thumbnail so it docs to it. Do the same thing for your second foldpagethumbnail/backcoverpages thumbnail...

  • Creating Interactive Brochure for the Web

I am trying to find a way to create an interactive brochure with page curls, hyperlinks, printable, etc. Is this possible using Adobe software?
I thought it would be something you would create in Flash or Fireworks, but can't seem to find any info on it. I know you can create a primitive one in Indesign to a certain extent, but I am looking to add more that that to it.
Also, I created an interactive brochure from Indesign, but the file is about 6MB and loads very slow on the web.
I am just look for some input or advise in creating this kind of document.

I don't know how to make page realistic page curls but you could create a small page curling animation in the corner that is actually a button to the next frame.
