Creating a button in the bookmark bar

Hi all,
I want to create a button in the Bookmarks bar. Instead of going to view->text Encoding->UTF-8, that button can change the encoding to UTF-8 directly.
Is it possible in Safari?
Regards,
Omar

Whats up....
it is only a matter of a button. i don't think that this thing is hard.

  • Buttons in the Bookmark Bar

I use Safari 5 on my Mac and on Windows. For some reason my bookmark bar buttons are all squished on my Windows S5 so that the names on the buttons do not show properly.
Is there a way to fix this? Is there something like an INI that I can delete that would reset the button sizes on the bookmark bar? I hope this does not happen on my Mac as well.

  • Is it possible--for me--to create a button on the menu bar for the "speech" option?

I use the "Speech" option to edit and re-edit my work. Somehow, I can catch clumsy prose faster when I hear it.   It is a royal pain to have to many steps to get to that function: highlight everything, pull up the right click menu by using the contol button and the click, scroll to <speech> and then scroll to <start speaking>.
Does Pages allow one to create menu options?  Is there any way to map that <Speech> option in the right click menu to the menu bar as a button?  That would cut out a few steps for me.
    I have a macAir running OS X 10.8.2
    Page 09 version 4.2

In Mountain Lion, the Option + Esc key combination (default) will speak from your Pages document until you press these keys again, or it will speak a selected passage of text. Alex is the default voice.
As a test, I just assigned a different key (F13 on my wired Apple keyboard). It warns you that there is no modifier key, and allows you to ignore this. Pages will automatically use the new setting. You can tailor your preferred keyboard shortcut:
System Preferences > Dictation & Speech > Text to Speech
Check Speak selected text when the key is pressed, then Change Key...
If Apple's voices grate on you, you might prefer more natural, native voices from CereProc.

  • Is there a way to create a button for the tool bar that will View a page in "No Style'?

I guess what I'm asking is...Is there a way to make a customized button for the toolbar that will allow me to change the view on a webpage to 'No Style' as listed under the view menu. If so, How can I do this?

    Try this add-on: <br />

  • The bookmarks disappeared in safari on iPad and I am unable to create new ones or bring back the bookmark bar

During the day yesterday, the bookmarks I had in Safari disappeared, as well as the bookmark bar.  In preferences I still have the "show bookmark bar always" option marked.  When I hit the bookmark symbol, to create the bookmarks the display has changed and it looks like it is creating a new bookmark, but when I go into bookmarks it is no longer there.

    Tap Settings > iCloud
Switch Safari off then back on.
Give iCloud a minute or two to sync your bookmarks.

  • When I change the position of the bookmarks button it always jumps to the same position (in the bookmarks bar). How can I make it stay where I want it to?

When I try to change to position of the symbol for the bookmarks it doesn't matter where I put it, always when I click on "Finish" the button jumps back in the middle of the bookmarks bar, right of the bookmarks and left of two addons (FoxyTunes and Forecastfox).

Sorry, that specific Bookmarks button ''(with the drop-marker down arrow or '''bookmarks''' word)'' is tied to the Bookmarks Toolbar when it is shown, and only appears when the Menu bar is hidden and the Firefox button is showing. It is not a "regular" toolbar button.
There is the original Bookmarks button, in the Customize Palette, which toggles the Bookmarks Sidebar view. It will stay where you put it on the Toolbars.

  • How to make the bookmarks bar JUST text and without the "Bookmarks" drop down and make the other bar have text with pictures? How to download a previous version of firefox?

The option is to set text, text and pictures, or pictures but it affects both bars and how to get the old version back because I just wanted a stupid addon that I didn't even need and now is firefox just stuck this way. I know it's better to have the new version for security or whatever but the new features are bad for me personally I can't use this program how can I get the old version again please help. Or at least help me fix my bookmarks bar it was carefully made so I can do my work but now it has been destroyed and it can't get rid of the icons without getting rid of Home Refresh Stop icons and also the Bookmarks dropdown menu button can't be removed from the bookmarks bar?

So if the bookmarks toolbar is fixed up you don't need to go back to Firefox 4. That's easy.
This styling will change the bookmark folders to blue (most common) and the few bookmarks to red. Most would have short names 1-4 characters. Install the "'''Stylish'''" extension and then the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/User:Dmcritchie style(s)] suggested below.
    * '''Stylish''' :: Add-ons for Firefox<br>https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/stylish/
    * '''Bookmarks Toolbar Fx4 Blue/Folders, Red/Bookmarks''' - Themes and Skins for Browser<br>http://userstyles.org/styles/46947
    '''Additional styling suggestions'''
    * '''Scrollbar Menu''' - Themes and Skins for Browser - userstyles.org<br>http://userstyles.org/styles/52
    * '''Scrollbar Context Menu''' - Themes and Skins for Browser<br>http://userstyles.org/styles/54
The drop-down at the end wouldn't be there as long as everything fits on the row.
:Once you start using styles you will really like them because you can control/modify/use them independently as building blocks as opposed to someone elses full theme design or extension.
I fail to see how the above is ''sketchy''
    # Install the "'''Stylish'''" extension
    # Install the suggested Style
The advantage of a style is that they are very small compared to extensions, and if you don't like they way it looks, you can modify it. Try to do that with an extension.
The suggested style shows folders in blue, and bookmarklets or bookmarks in red used as buttons.
The deiconizer extension looks rather hard to read, seems rather large for what it does, and it has space wasting drop downs which are meaningless, simply left click to show the folder.
''it can't get rid of the (bookmark/folder) icons without getting rid of Home Refresh Stop icons and also the Bookmarks dropdown menu button can't be removed from the bookmarks bar?''
The Home button would show as text ("Home") with the style change, as for Refresh ("F5") and Stop("Esc") the keyboard shortcuts work better for me anyway and have never included them on my toolbars. I keep the Home button to the left of the Location bar anyway so it shows an icon.
'''For those that really need an earlier version of Firefox''', find your system and the Firefox version you want in releases, download and start the install.
    * ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/
When reinstalling Firefox from a download, Firefox must be down once the installation starts. When the installation finishes, don't let the install start firefox for you. Instead end the install and start Firefox in your normal manner, thus preventing creating a new profile which does not have your bookmarks cookies, etc (but your old profile would still be around and would).

  • How do I add a print button to the tool bar?

When I open the menu there is not a "print" button to add to the tool bar. Even under customize there is not a "print" button. How do I print from mozilla?

The Print button in the "3-bar" Firefox menu button drop-down list opens the Print Preview window.
You can click the Print button in the Print Preview window or use the Print item in the File menu (File > Print) or use the Ctrl+P shortcut to have access to the print selection item and other print setup options.
You can look at this extension:
    *Universal Print: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/universal-print/
There are other things that need attention.
Your System Details list shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time Firefox starts.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there.
You can check its content with a plain text editor (right-click: "Open with"; do not double-click).
The user.js file is read each time Firefox is started and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.
You can delete the user.js file if you didn't create this file yourself.

  • In 4.0.1, is it possible to move the Bookmarks Button on the Bookmarks Toolbar to a different position on the Bookmarks Toolbar from it default position on the far right?

The default Bookmarks Button is on the far, upper right side of the browser window on the Bookmarks Toolbar. It's distracting there, on the edge, in Siberia. I use it a thousand times per day. It's unnatural and distracting to always be turning to the edge, away from "the action". Is there any way to slide its location on the toolbar? Or at least put it on the far left where there's more "action"? I doubt I'm the only one with this instinct, otherwise the Firefox button and items on the usual menu bar (like File, Edit) would not always be placed on the upper left, not upper right. I'm not asking about the other, optional Bookmarks Button that can be put on the Navigation Toolbar which functions differently and more cumbersomely.

To move the bookmarks button on the Bookmarks Toolbar, you have to go into Customize first. Just drag the button palette to one side so you have full access to the bar. The only things on it should be "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" and the icon for the bookmarks drop-down list. Hopefully then you can swap their positions.
(And it is weird that the buttons look the same when one shows a menu and other opens the Bookmarks Sidebar.)

  • Why can't I add a bookmark to subfolders in the bookmark bar by drag-n-drop?

Way back in the '90s, there used to be a Mac browser (IE?) that allowed you to drag a URL from the address bar, hover it over a bookmark folder in the bookmark bar, and it would spring open to expose all the subfolders, and allow you to drop the new URL into any of the exposed subfolders.
This remains, without a doubt, the most effective, straightforward, simple, and efficient way of filing bookmarks I've ever experienced.
Why doesn't Safari use this system?  Or does it, and I just don't know how to enable it?  If it doesn't, how can I suggest this to the Safari team?
    Cheers,
    Lloyd

Safari 7 looks likely to allow dragging from the address bar to folders in the  sidebar - although no mention of drag/drop onto sub-folders in the bookmarks (favorites) bar. But there is a + button just to the left, which may allow  '1-click' adding to sub-folders, Reading List etc (more here)

  • Where does Firefox Store the bookmarks in the bookmark bar for Windows and is t viewable using a text editor?

''Duplicate post, continue here - [/questions/776604]''
My PC's motherboard has fried and as such I am working of a beatup laptop. I have a device allowing me to hookup my sATA drive to my laptop and would like to find my bookmarks I store in the bookmark bar without losing the one on my laptop.
    Thanks.

The bookmarks are stored in a file called places.sqlite in the [[profiles|profile folder]]. This file is not viewable in a text editor.
One way to do this would be to create a new profile (Firefox stores user data in the profile folder), you can then copy the bookmarks and other user data such as passwords to the new profile. You will then have access to the data from the PC and will still have your current laptop data in its own profile.
For details on doing this see [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Creating_a_new_Firefox_profile_on_Windows Creating a new Firefox profile on Windows] and [[Recovering important data from an old profile]].

  • The bookmarks bar is really wide on the Mac version. Is this a bug?

Surely this is a bug. The bookmarks bar is ''huge!''
On a related note, is it possible to get rid of the favicons? It's really ungainly.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See [[Basic Troubleshooting#Make_a_new_profile|Basic Troubleshooting&#58; Make a new profile]]
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox
    See also:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Testing_pre-release_versions
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Using_multiple_profiles_-_Firefox
You can hide the favicons on the Bookmarks Toolbar with code in userChrome.css
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Editing_configuration#How_to_edit_configuration_files
Add code to [http://kb.mozillazine.org/UserChrome.css userChrome.css] below the @namespace line.
    <pre><nowiki>@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* only needed once */
    #personal-bookmarks .toolbarbutton-icon {display:none!important}
    </nowiki></pre>

  • I am trying to use pinterest on my computer.  i had it installed in the bookmark bar, working fine and now today mysteriously it stopped working.  help!

i am trying to use pinterest on my computer.  i had it installed, in the bookmark bar, it was working properly, and today it has stopped working.  i have deleted it, and reinstalled, but still the same problem.  please help!

It looks like that "button" is just a JavaScript with a web link. Have you tried clearing your browser's cache and cookies? Also, confirm that JavaScript is still active; there will be a setting in your brower's preferences; it's in the Security pane in some versions of Safari.

  • User-defined F4 Search - cancel button in the title bar

    Hi,
I implement user-defined F4 search for my WD application. F4 view comes from another component (as described in the tutorial). Everything is fine, I see that view popuped when F4 is clicked for an input field. My problem is, how to make visible the Close button in the title bar of that popup window.
I was able to set window's title text, but have no idea how to control those buttons. I only see maximize button which comes by default.
Also would be nice to create kind of standard OK and Cancel buttons on the bottom bar instead of creating them manually on my view... I've tried set_button_kind(), it works somehow: displayes three empty buttons without icons - need more info about it too...
    Thanks

    Hi Serguei,
The empty buttons are worth a ticket.
The behavior for the close button in popups is that the application developer can determine its visibility independent from the buttons in the lower row.
The second aspect is the action that is triggered if someone clicks that button. There the application developer is able to bind a separate action to that close button. If no action was bound and if a cancel button is visible, clicking the close button will trigger the same action as it would have been the case for the cancel button. A bit complicated, I know. We had to do the latter for backwards compatibility.
    Best regards,
    Thomas

  • How do I remove the "show top sites" button from the favorites bar?

I just updated to Yosemite, and so I have Safari 8.0... which has the "Show Top Sites" button at the extreme left of the favorites bar. Given I loathe that feature, I tried to remove it but unlike everything else in the favorites bar, it won't go away or move.
I hate "Show Top Sites" as it feels like my browser is spying on me. I know it's just taking from what's already in my History but all the same, I don't see why I should have to put up with it given it's my browser and I should get a say in its behavior. New windows open to a blank page but I would at least like the button in the favorites bar removed, but ideally, the entire feature disabled.
I can disable tabs. Why not top sites?.

    Hi ..
Unfortunately, there is no way to disable or remove the Top Sites icon from the Bookmarks bar.
