Creating a Custom Audio Transition

My boss has a client that is not satisfied with the audio fades that FCP comes with. He has created a fade-in and a fade-out that the client is happy with by using audio keyframes to manually control the action. He now needs to apply this to the tips and tails of about 70 different audio tracks. Does anyone know how to create an audio transition such as the cross fades that already are installed with FCP? I'm still pouring through the manuals and this forum but it's been hours and I haven't found anything helpful yet! Thanks for the help

If the levels are even throughout the rest of each clip (except for the fade-ins and fade-outs), do the keyframing on one clip then copy it. Next, select all other clips that you want to apply the fades to and right-click on one and select Paste Attributes. When the window opens, click the button next to Audio-Levels.

  • Custom audio player in Edge?

    Hi.
    I'd like to create a custom audio player in Edge. I need the code for the following elements:
    play/pause - play/pause toggle button (mouseover hides the play and reveals the pause and vice-versa)
    timeline - timeline track
    loading/buffering bar - loading/buffering progress bar
    handle - playhead: indicates current position in the audio file and  acts as a drag handle to move to a different point of the audio
    timeleft - remaining play time (in minutes and seconds)
    The buttons are symbols, because they all have mouseover/mouseout animations beside the click.
    Here´s a schematic of what I want:

  • How to create an audio transition

    It may be my ears to blame, but I cannot hear any difference whatever, with any of the audio transitions.  Further, I don't see any way to make adjustments in the adjustment panel either... or don't understand how to use it possibly.
    To get serious fading I have to resort to the rubberband technique and end up setting 4 keyframs.
    Am I just not understanding how to use the supplied audio transitions... should I hear some really noticable change if I use one, or not.
    Maybe I need to make my own, but I could use a little help on that.  I'd like to end up with a serious dip in volume as the cursor crosses from one clip to another.
    Its a real time sync if you have a lot of clips, to have to set and adjust 4 keyframes at each junction.

    Harry,
    It sounds like you want the equivalent of an audio "dip to black"; in other words, you want the outgoing audio to ride from 100% volume down to 0% volume, and then the incoming audio to ride from 0% back to 100% volume. Unfortunately, there is no built-in audio transition that does this--they all function as crossfades with the volume from both audio clips being mixed during the entire duration of the transition.
    Thankfully, there's a pretty easy and versatile solution, though it does involve a little setup legwork on your part. When in doubt, roll yer own
    Drop an audio clip or a video clip with audio into a sequence, and go to the beginning of the clip.
    With the clip selected, create a fade in using two volume keyframes, to the duration you desire. You already mentioned that you know how to rubberband the volume, and that's all you're doing here. You can either set this up in your sequence, or the effects control panel, whichever is easier for you. You can also Control+click the keyframes to turn them into Bezier keyframes, so that you can ease in and out of the keyframes, if you like.
    In the effects control panel, under Audio Effects, right-click on the word "Volume", and select "Save Preset". In the dialog that appears, name your preset (i.e. Volume Fade In 1 second), select Anchor to In Point, and add a description if you like. When you hit OK, the preset will be saved in your effects bin under Presets, where you can categorize them later.
    With this done, select the keyframes you created and delete them, or toggle the stop watch on and off to remove the keyframes. If you do the latter, you'll need to hit the keyframe button to remove the keyframe that is automatically keyframed.
    Repeat steps 2 and 3 above but instead of creating a fade in, create a fade out using the same techniques. Save the preset again using the same procedure, but selected Anchor to Out Point, and change the name to reflect that it's a fade out.
    You'll now have two custom fades in your Presets bin. You can select all of your clips that you want to apply the fades to and drag first one preset and then the other onto all of the selected clips. The reason you need to create two presets instead of one is because you probably want to maintain the duration of your fades, and the only way you can do this is to select the "Anchor to" options. If you created a fade in and fade out on one clip and selected Scale, the duration of the fades would be based on the duration of the clip; not likely what you want.
    Hope that helps a bit...

  • Final Cut Pro X 10.0.5 Create Storyline with Audio-Only Clips in order to add crossfade transition.

    Final Cut Pro X version 10.0.5 – How to Create Storyline with audio-only clips. I'm following exercises in Diana Weynand's Pro Training Series, and this function is greyed out. Trying to create crossfade transition. New Compound Clip can be activated however.

    Chapter 7. Page 269. Exploring Audio Transitions. Selecting two audio clips, then control-clicking the clips. The dropdown menu to Create Storyline or (Command G) is greyed out. The function no longer seems to be available. I've found other functions that no longer apply with the latest version in relation to the book, and I assume that this is another one. But I'm trying to follow the book the best I can. I know there's a workaround. I can simply select an edit point and add the cross dissolve (Command T), but I wonder if this accomplishes the requested exercise from the book.

  • Create new, custom transitions?

    Hi all! I'm working on possibly replacing FCP X in my workflow. One of the great things about FCPX and Motion was that I could create my own transitions using Motion and "placeholder" footage, then easily load them as new transition effects in an FCP X project. I have a series of light leak transitions that were basically a dissolve between A and B, with the light leak/bokeh footage overlaid with Add blend mode. While I know I can just place the footage over the edit points on the timeline, it would be much easier and cleaner to simply apply these as transitions instead.
    Is it possible to create my own custom transitions with Premiere or After Effects, that can be applied as transition effects directly to clips on the timeline?

  • Creating a custom screen saver that won't blow a small image

    Hello All...
    At work, my boss is trying to get me to create a custom screen saver with our business logo to display when activated. I'm usually pretty comfortable with these kinds of tasks, but for this one I'm at a loss.
    I've have my logo in a designated folder and when I'm under Screen Saver in System Preferences, I have that folder selected and then would like the image to repeat itself, but basically jump around the screen (sort of like "gasp" the Windows XP default screen saver). My problem is that no matter what the size of my logo is, it is fitted automatically to the size of the monitor, even if it is a rather small logo. Therefore, 1) it is very pixelated and 2.) it defeats the purpose of the screen saver because it can't jump around.
    I've turned off the option "Crop slides to fill screen" thinking that would work, but it hasn't. We're running OS 10.5.8 on 24" iMacs from early/mid 2009. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    i.3d wrote:
    This is a heavy handed approach but how about creating a document the size of your screen, and paste the logo in its original size into it.
    It's not heavy handed. this is the only thing that makes sense here and I was going to suggest that too. just make an image of appropriate size. that's not hard.
    In fact, using Photoshop or Gimp you could make several layers, each with a different colour background, move the logo around on each layer, save each layer as a separate image and then play with them. Do a slideshow with transitions etc.
    BTW, where did the quartz composer go? It used to be included in the previous versions of OSX.
    Quartz composer would let you create "proper" screen savers.

  • Can you make an audio transition in Motion 5? If so, how?

    I remember before I upgraded to FCPX the previous version of Final Cut had audio transitions (a cross fade 0Db and a cross fade +3Db). I have not needed an audio transition in Final Cut until now and I couldn't find one in FCPX. So I set out to build one in Motion 5 (I have experience in creating my own generators and transitions in motion) but I could not seem to figure out how to work with audio. If someone could please give me some pointers or let me know if this is even possible that would be great. Thanks, Jobstevenson.

    Hi
    Motion is a graphics tool, and not designed to work with audio.
    You will want to look at the manual for FCPX to find out how to do audio dissolves. I'm guessingt he audio will need to be in a Storyline for you to beable to do this. The other wa is the have the audio as connected clips and simply add a fade up and and down to the clip end and start.

  • Custom audio player

    I'd like to create an audio player like the CSMonitor uses
    for its daily podcast at csmonitor.com
    I'm able to create one using a simple rewind, stop, start,
    and jump to end button using actionscript, but how do I get start
    button to change to pause button when pushed and vice versa,
    progress bar with blue ball, and counter that shows time played out
    of total time length of audio file?
    Do I make a separate image for the blue ball and the progress
    bar? then how do I script the ball to move and the time indicators.
    Actionscript I'm currently familiar with using:
    gotoAndStop(1)
    rewindBtn.onPress = function () {
    gotoAndStop(1);
    stopBtn.onPress = function () {
    stop();
    playBtn.onPress = function () {
    play();
    endBtn.onPress = function () {
    gotoAndStop(2560);
    pauseBtn.onRelease = function () {
    (toggle = (toggle) ? false : true) ? stop() : play();
    };

  • Custom Audio Element : flush buffer and synchronize execution of a media

    Hi,
    Everything is in the title ! I found a discussion on an older Cisco forum (here is the link https://communities.cisco.com/docs/DOC-48793 ) about flushing the dtmf buffer. A jar file was attached to the discussion. It contains two custom audio elements (by overriding the "addxmlbody" method) : the first one is used to flush dtmf buffer to prevent the interruption of the next audio and the second permits to a synchronous completion of the media playing.
    Is it possible to merge this two elements in only one with two functionalities ?
    Thanks.

    I mean, do somethig like this:
          * This will get called when there's data pushed from the
          * PushBufferDataSource (ex. RTP, VoD or microCapture)
         public void transferData(PushBufferStream stream)
             try {
              stream.read(readBuffer);
             } catch (IOException e) {
              System.err.println(e);
              sendEvent(new DataSinkErrorEvent(this, e.getMessage()));
              return;
             sendOverUDP(toBytes(readBuffer));
             // Check to see if we are done with all the streams.
             if (readBuffer.isEOM() && checkDone(stream)) {
              sendEvent(new EndOfStreamEvent(this));
           //Convert buffer to byte array
            public byte[] toBytes(Buffer buffer){
                ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
                try{
                    ObjectOutputStream oos = new ObjectOutputStream(baos);
                    oos.writeObject(buffer);
                }catch(java.io.IOException ioe){}
                return baos.toByteArray();
            }Is it would be correct? Because Now I'm implementing a byteBufferDataSource to create a DataSource from the byteBuffer to play it. But I'm not sure if I'n in the good way! What do you think?
    Thanks!

  • Audio transitions missing when combining sequences - Premiere CC 8.1 Caravan

    Audio effects not following when one sequence is pasted into another - Premiere CC 8.1 Caravan
    When I finish sequences "A," "B," and "C," and I wish to make a new sequence (sequence "D") that has parts of sequence A, B, and C, I load any of the three sequences into the source monitor and then use the insert/overwrite to paste into sequence D.  When playing A, B, or C in the source monitor, everything sounds fine.  When I insert (or overlay) those segments into new sequence "D," audio transitions (such as exponential audio transitions to fade in/out music) are missing.  So on sequence "D," any audio transitions from sequences A, B, or C do not follow.
    I just confirmed that this problem does not exist in Premiere CS6.  All audio transitions follow from one sequence that is pasted into another.
    In CC, I re-created the problem by putting an exponential fade in and fade out on a clip of music on sequence A, and it works just fine.  I then pasted that sequence into sequence D.  At the point of the transition, the music does not fade in at the beginning, but just stays muted until after the fade-in transition, then pops in full.  Then at the fade out, the audio does fade, but it is full of digital static.
    I did this same test in CS6 (same machine) and everything works fine.  All transitions and effects are perfect.
    I just noted this the other day when creating a highlight sequence of a documentary we are producing.  I noticed that sound bites were cutting in abruptly.  This is a serious problem.
    Can anyone else recreate this issue?

    Hey KMueller - neat thinking.
    Before reporting - I did try the drag / drop, then the import, then the media browser options and they all ended up the same.
    Using your idea, I just straight forward made a copy / paste of the file in the folder it sits in, then dragged that over and hey presto - it came in with audio...
    The icon representing the original file says video only still - but the icon representing the "copy" of the same file has a video & audio icon - and it plays ball on the timeline.
    Thanks

  • Creating a custom JSF Component

    Hi,
    I am trying to create a custom JSF Component. My ultimate goal is to pass a bean to my custom component and have the component render some HTML output based on the info contained in the bean. Before I attempt that I am trying to get a simple custom component to just work. This component is based on the tutorial found here: http://www.jsftutorials.net/components/index.html
    This tutorial just creates a component that outputs a <div> tag around the body contents of the custom component.
    To keep this short I have done the following items from the tutorial link above:
    1) I have created the tld file defining the tag class, name, uri and shortname
    2) I have also created the tag class called TickerTag.java along with the component class UITicker.java. These classes are straight copy-and-paste jobs from the tutorial link and compile fine.
    3)My faces-config.xml file has the proper component definition of
    <component>
    <component-type>ticker</component-type>
    <component-class>ticker.UITicker</component-class>
    </component>
    This was the easy part. The example then goes on to use the custom component in a JSP page. I managed to get the custom component to work in a JSP page BUT my problem is getting the custom component to work in an XHTML file.
    I thought all I had to do was define an xml namespace using the uri from my tld file like so:
    Note: My uri is www.fubar.com/tags and is defined in the tld file.
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"
    xmlns:ui="http://java.sun.com/jsf/facelets"
    xmlns:h="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html"
    xmlns:f="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core"
    xmlns:t="http://myfaces.apache.org/tomahawk"
    xmlns:u="http://www.fubar.com/tags">
    I then try to use the tag like so <u:ticker> <f:verbatim>Hello JSF Component</f:verbatim></u:ticker>
    I am expecting the following output: <div>Hello JSF Component
    </div>
    but instead I get
    <u:ticker>Hello JSF Component</u:ticker>
    It seems the tag is not even processed. This is my first jump into custom components. I have done custom JSP tags in the past but I never tried to display them on an XHTML page.
    If you are wondering why I am using XHTML pages, this was setup a while back by a previous developer. Changing everything to a JSP would take a long time and probably break some stuff I am not aware of yet. As such the web.xml file of this JSF web app has the following:
    <context-param>
    <param-name>javax.faces.DEFAULT_SUFFIX</param-name>
    <param-value>.xhtml</param-value>
    </context-param>
    So all *.jsf files are processed and sent to the corresponding .xhtml file.
    I have looked up creating custom components on google and every last example uses their newly created components in a jsp file. No XHTML uses so far.
    Below are my tld files and xhtml file if that helps:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE taglib PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD JSP Tag Library 1.2//EN" "http://java.sun.com/dtd/web-jsptaglibrary_1_2.dtd">
    <taglib>
    <tlib-version>1.0</tlib-version>
    <jsp-version>1.2</jsp-version>
    <short-name>u</short-name>
    <uri>http://www.fubar.com/tags</uri>
    <tag>
    <name>ticker</name>
    <tag-class>ticker.TickerTag</tag-class>
    <body-content>JSP</body-content>
    </tag>
    </taglib>
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
    "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"
    xmlns:ui="http://java.sun.com/jsf/facelets"
    xmlns:h="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html"
    xmlns:f="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core"
    xmlns:t="http://myfaces.apache.org/tomahawk"
    xmlns:u="http://www.fubar.com/tags">
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Show Custom Component</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <f:view>
    <u:ticker> <f:verbatim>Hello JSF Component</f:verbatim></u:ticker>
    </f:view>
    </body>
    </html>
    Any suggestions/help are much appreciated,
    Nick
    </div>

    Thanks Ray. I'll take a look at that site.
    I managed to figure out my problem. I never created a .taglib.xml file that reference the component I defined in the faces-config.xml file. Once I did that everything work perfectly.
    I managed to use this forum post as a guide.
    http://osdir.com/ml/java.facelets.user/2006-12/msg00042.html
    I hope this helps anyone else.

  • Audio transitions on soundtrack

    I am trying to apply a transition between 2 clips on the soundtrack. I can adjust duration without any problem, but I see no distinction between the alignment options of 'left clip, between clip, or right clip'. I am not certain this function is working as regardless of which one I choose, the little arrow that appears on the soundtrack to indicatie the presence of a transition is always in the 'center', without any distinction of 'left, between, or right'. Plus, when I finish adjusting duration and move to alignment, none of the 32 choices become highlighted, but remain shaded or grey.I thought if I chose 'between clips' that the fade of sound would occur at end of one clip and beginning of adjacent clip, but I onl.y notice fade on either the end, or the beginning, not both. Should transition alignment work with all sound clips? Any suggestions?.
    Thanks...

    There is essentially only one audio transition (although there are two versions of it) and that is the audio dissolve.
    It is not a fade out from one clip and a fade into another. It is a transition in which one clip essentially blends into the other.
    In order to adjust where this transition takes place between the two audio clips, you will likely need to trim about a second off the end of one clip and the beginning of another so that the transition will have "head" and "tail" material to create the transitional segment.
