Creating a custom or random sort order

I would like to be able to drag and drop my images in any given order, and then rename them sequentially. This is useful for creating albums, etc. Will Lightroom enable me to do this? If so, HOW? I have not seen this topic, nor does it appear possible with the current version.

Ah Hah! I discovered the problem. You cannot use this function unless you are in the specific folder of the photo shoot. In other words, if there are any subfolders, you have to be viewing only the group of images in the subfolder to create a user order. If you are viewing a folder that has an arrow to the left of it, you must twirl the arrow down and click on one of the subfolders below it (which are slightly indented in the Library list.

  • Random sort order in slideshows

    I was trying to import some jpg's into a slideshow, from a folder of jpg's. I found that the slides that ended up in the iDVD slideshow were randomly sorted. The sort order matched neither the date/timestamp, the filename, or any other metadata I could work out. I then imported them into iPhoto and discovered I could force a sort order there and bring them across from iPhoto into iDVD and that worked.
    However, the behavior of iDVD when importing from a regular folder of images is very buggy, and of course there are no slideshow sorting options within the program. I do this regularly and pumping everything through iPhoto just so I can get my slideshows sorted is cumbersome. Has anyone else seen this and is there an explanation/fix?
    Thanks.

    Did you have any luck with this? I have been trying all day to find a solution for this very problem. I know I can do the *into iPhoto first* theory - but as I am adding from Aperture I had thought I was past the iPhoto malarky.

  • Faces from my Mac's random sort order

    So since updating to iOS 8 (and up to iOS 8.0.2, iPhone 5) and syncing my photos from aperture, the stock photo's app now seems intent on listing all the people tagged in my photos in a random order. Previously, on iOS 7, these were listed alphabetically with no issues (the fact that the phone wants to change the sort order of albums from what they're set to to date is another gripe altogether, but at least one that has a workaround).
    Does anyone else have this issue of Faces from my Mac being in a completely random order? And if so does anyone know of a workaround? I've tried deleting the iPod photo cache from my Aperture library but this hasn't had any effect...

    I have the same issue too. My 'Faces' are all mixed up and depending on where I look i.e. if I go to send a photo through iMessage, they are in order. But, if I look in the Photo App on my iPhone, they are all mixed up.
    On a slightly different note, if i'm in the Facebook App and I go to upload a photo, the 'Camera Roll' contains ALL my photos on my phone and only the 3 albums that I made on the phone. It doesn't view my albums imported from iPhoto. Clearly an FB issue and not Apple though.

  • Is it possible to create exception rule in Comparator sort order?

    I have been working on trying to learn how to use Comparators to sort Collections... In one of my recent experiments, I tried to order a PriorityQueue of String elements alphabetically, in ascending order, with one exception: any word beginning with the letter "z" should be given a higher priority than any other word. I haven't been able to find a way to do this, nor to discern whether or not it's possible.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Try something like this:public class MyComparator implements Comparator<String> {
        @Override
        public int compare(String s1, String s2) {
            boolean s1StartsWithZ = s1.startsWith("z");
            boolean s2StartsWithZ = s2.startsWith("z");
            if (s1StartsWithZ && !s2StartsWithZ) return 1;
            if (s2StartsWithZ && !s1StartsWithZ) return -1;
            return s1.compareTo(s2);
    }

  • Iphoto album sort order issue.

    Stadard iphoto album (iphoto 11) being manually sorted suddendly reverted to what appears to be a random sort order.  The order now is not by date, camera, keyword, or any other.  It appears to have set its own manual order.  How can this happen? Is there a way to revert back to the previous sort order?  Even if I had mistakenly reset the manual sort, wouldn't it default back to one of the standard sort criteria?

    want to replace the original photos in the event
    You don't have to.  If you look at the photo in the Event that tghe photo came from you'll find that it has been edited.
    The photos in albums are only pointers to the original photo in the Event.  There's no file duplication in the process of adding a photo to an album.

  • Sort order differs on iPod

    I've just replaced my G2 iPod with a 60GB 5G iPod. The song sort order on the 'standard' playlists like 'Songs" (as opposed to the playlists I create myself) have a different sort order from how they're displayed in iTunes. For example, I sort 'Recently Added' by date with the most recent at the top, on the iPod they are sorted alphabetically even though the iPod playlist in Tunes has them sorted by date. has anyone else experienced this or is there a setting for altering the sort order on the iPod that I haven't discovered?
    TIA

    I think that is basic sorting for the iPod. For example if you have an album of songs but no track number noted for each song they will show up in the album section but be listed alphabetically where if they have track #'s then they will be listed in tract # order.
    I hope this answers your question.

  • Sort Order keeps changing

    I'm using Aperture 3.1.2. My Workflow is to arrange the images by file name, group the bracketed images, select them, create an HDR image via NiK HRD Efex Pro and then add the HDR image to the group.
    The problem is that after I create the HDR image the sort order in the browser (multiple images) changes. The new HDR image is moved to the very top of the browser, and the sort order is changed to manual from by file name. So I have to change the sort order back to file name to place the HDR image next to it's parents, then scroll down to the image. This gets to be very painful going through 500 + images ....

    Short answer: Close all stacks
    By group, you mean that you place the images in a stack (I hope). If you have all the HDR images in the same stack as the final image (with that one set as a pick), then the way to get this to work is to close all the stacks and then choose the sort order that you want. Aperture has problems trying to decide how to sort when stacks are open. If the 1st item in the second stack was after the third item in the 1st stack but before the last item in the second stack and so on - so it just gives up. I am not certain it is a bug.
    I think if you close all stacks before you create your HDR - it should be put right next to the stack with the originals so you can easily add it to that stack.

  • Yahoo mail sort order in inbox

    Hi all,
    My problem initially started with the push function for yahoo mail not working. The additional problem that I now have is that the emails in my inbox as well as sent items are not appearing in the right sort order (most recent to oldest). The inbox and the sent box both are showing the last 50 emails first.
    Any suggestions.
    Thanks

    Sorry for the double-post here, but after reading the fix suggested at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3066818&#3066818 more carefully, my problem is resolved.
    As it turns out, you have to choose the group in Address Book, then select all the names, then drag all the selected names to the Pages doc for the mail merge to sort in alpha order.
    Part of the problem I was experiencing has to do with the click-and-drag lag in Address Book. If you select all the entries, then click-and-drag quickly toward Pages, the list will deselect all but the first entry.
    Instead, you have to click-and-hold-and-drag-very-slowly out of the Address Book window. I'm not sure why, but when I attempted (and repeated) the process, that's what I found.
    I hope my error helps another.
    I'm having a problem similar to other Pages + Address
    Book users. When I select an Address Book group
    (about 140 addresses) to merge into Pages, they come
    up in a seemingly random order.
    In Address Book, the contacts are listed by Surname
    (Last Name). In the Pages document, I am only
    inserting the First Name field, but I would expect
    them to merge in alpha order, as they are in Address
    Book.
    Alas, that is not the case.
    The fix suggested at
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=306
    6818&#3066818 did not solve my problem. I have tried
    dragging and dropping the group into the Pages master
    document -- it simply comes up with a different,
    random sort order.
    Has anyone else faced the sort order problem from
    Address Book into Pages successfully? Any help would
    be welcome.

  • LR - Creating Custom Sort Orders in Lightroom | The Complete Picture with Julieanne Kost | Adobe TV

    Julieanne Kost shows the best ways to take advantage of Adobe Lightroom’s Custom Sort Order feature in this Lightroom 2 tutorial.
    http://adobe.ly/y3dj94

    This was helpful, Julieanne, however, I have one more question on custom sort order. I am trying to sort a Collection that is made up of photos from several different import files. It's a vacation collection where I have created a different file for each day of the vacation as well as by who took the photos. So i have a file for my daughter's shots, my shots, my son's, etc, to keep things organized. Now that i have selected the "best of" from each original import file, I have created a new User Collection where I am putting them all together. The problem is, my entire Collection won't sort. I want to sort them all by capture time, but LR keeps grouping them by the original file source, and only sorting by capture time within each group. Can you help?

  • Create Sequence from Bin and retain sort order

         I am trying to create new sequences by dragging a bin to the "new item" folder icon in the bottom right. It does create a sequence that matches the settings of the clips in the bin, but they are in a completely random order. The bin itself is sorted by name. If I select all of the clips in a bin and drag it to create a bin, they are sorted properly, but it is slowing down my workflow. Any thoughts? Does Premiere CC work this way for anyone else?

    Not sure what to suggest except..
    Posters often talk about wanting a faster workflow...
    but it is slowing down my workflow.
    FWIW
    Maybe 1 minute invested in creating a New Sequence Preset (Custom) for now and future use..
    Click On Bin - 1 sec
    Ctrl-A ( Select all) - 1 sec
    Drag to the Sequence - 2 secs
    Cant think of a faster way to speed up your workflow apart from that.

  • Frustrated and seeking help with a custom sort order...

    I created a family photo album and arranged all of the pictures in a specific order and sync'd them with my iPad, unfortunately the pictures do not stay in the custom sequence.
    I tried Batch renaming with a Custom Name and Index, but the renaming is applied to the pictures based on the date they were created and not by the way I have arranged them.
    Is there a solution to my problem?
    TIA

    I flagged fifty photos and from that selection I created an album. I went to the album and dragged the photos in to the order I wanted them to appear after selecting Manual. Each time I now choose the manual option it arranges the photos into the sequence I created.
    The problem I'm having is that when I synchronize my iPad with iTunes the photos revert back to their original sort order, which is the default date they were brought in to Aperture.
    As I said, I tried to give them new names and index numbers using a batch command AFTER I arranged them manually, which works, however the names are assigned to the photos sequentially starting with oldest photos and not to photos as I have arranged them.
    Honestly, it would be easier for me to create a slideshow using the timeline in FCP, but a video is not what I'm after.
    I hope I have answered your questions.
    TIA

  • Custom sort order still lost

    This was not fixed as reported by Apple with Aperture version 2. When I move custom sorted images from one project to another, or export and import a project with custom sorted images, the sort order is lost. The order after the move, or import is either in file name order or sometimes in a completly random order. This occurs on both my MacBook Pro (late 2008) and my 8 core (16GB RAM) Mac Pro.
    This makes it impossible to do efficient work in the field and export the work.

    Followup: I spoke to Andre with Aperture support. He could not confirm this, at first, using a small number of images dragged from project A to Project B. Using a larger number (99 in his case), he was able to confirm the loss of custom sort order. The Apple web site says this has been corrected for import/exports and that is also not fixed. He will refer the problem to engineering for correction in a future update.
    I suspect (have no proof) the problem relates to the way Aperture divides each download (from card or camera) to a project into separate folders. To see this, export a project and open it (show package contents). Within the project package are separate folders for each of the downloads to the project. Aperture does not consolidate the images into a single folder. It appears that when a set of images are downloaded at one time is interposed between images taken previously, the sort order is not lost when the images are moved to another project or exported as a project.
    I still would like to know if there is a work around for this.

  • Sort order by custom comparable logic

    Hi All,
    Is it possible to sort the records from NamedCache.entrySet() by implementing Comparable<T> in my pojo?
    Thanks,

    Thanks for your quick response.
    My requirement is to fetch objects without filter but with custom sort order and
    I couldn't find any method in QueryMap for this purpose.
    What will be result if implement Comparable interface in object?Hi,
    1. You can always use AlwaysFilter.INSTANCE for filtering.
    2. You can use a parallel aggregator to parallelly presort objects and also limit the number of objects you fetch.
    Implementing Comparable with the objects allows you to call entrySet(Filter, Comparator) with null for comparator. The method entrySet() without parameters or the entrySet(Filter) do not sort regardless of whether your objects implement comparable or not.

  • Problem when creating a customer order (VA01)

    I'm trying to create a customer order to sell a material which has serial no. I use transaction VA01.when i wrote the serial no of the material that gives an error "the serial no doesn't exist in SNUM".when i checked that table, i saw that there is no data. Probably some missing or mistake about customizing.
    Does anyone have any idea, what should i do???
    Thanks...

    Create serial number profile in <b>T.code: OIS2</b> and
    Please Assign the serial number profile to the material master (Sales orgn/plant data) present in the sales order. Then recreate the order.this solves your problem.

  • Maintaining custom sort order when copying between albums

    Is there any way that you folks have discovered to maintain the custom sort order of the images in an album when copying these images into a another album? Duping the album is not an answer, as I need to collate the contents of a number of albums into one.
    I tried selecting the contents of the album that I had just done the custom sorting in, and making it into one big stack, to try to move that to keep the order. Aperture informed me that stacking only works on images from one project.
    OK, since I now know this fact about stacking, is there any good way to merge projects? I have a ton of work on the images in the individual projects, and don't want to redo anything.
    Anyway, hope you get the problem, any help will be appreciated.
