Creating a Defocus pull matte for Compound Blur Effect

I was trying to make a defocus pull matte by starting with a black solid (comp size) and using the 4 Color Gradient effect on it, with the color points set to white and black so that I could place where I wanted the blurring to occure. I used the Compound Blur Effect on the Layer that I wanted to blur and chose my "defocus matte" as the Blur layer.
NOTHING HAPPENED.
I tried precomping the "defocus matte" layer and again NOTHING HAPPENED. Nothing Blurred.
What am I doing wrong.
Also is there a better way to create a defocus matte. The four points of the color gradient didn't quite follow the outline that I wanted. Do I need to create the Defocus matte in Photoshop or Illustrator.

Using CS4 on a Mac

The 4 Color is not the best tool. All compound effects rely only on luma values ad ignore chroma information. And remember the blur layer is sampled before all effects are applied, unless, as Andrew notes, you carefully precompose.
The best compound effects are the result of careful experimentation. Compound and grayscale effects are one of the more powerful control systems in After Effects. They can drive animation systems in Shatter. Very cool.

ok.
draw yourself a shape, whatever you like. Go to Effect > 3D > Rotate and apply the settings you want.
with your object selected, go to the Graphic Styles palette (Window > Graphic styles) and create new graphic style (either in the palette menu or the little button). Call it something memorable.
draw a new object, again whatever you like. open the Actions palette (Window > Actions). Create new action. Give it a name and assign it to a Function key, then click OK (The action will start recording).
Select your new object, then pick your new Graphic Style from the graphic styles palette. it should apply your 3D settings to the new object.
click on the stop button at the bottom of the Actions palette.
create new object, select it, hit your chosen function key. enjoy.

What kind of inforobject can be used for compounding while creating charac

     what kind of standard inforobject can be used for compounding while creating characteristic ?
    I found that some could be , but some couldn't , like 0RESP_PERS.
THE ERROR :
1      Characteristic 0RESP_PERS was included in the compounding for COS09 (-> Long Text)      QLong text exists
2              0RESP_PERS is just an attribute and is not allowed in the compounding No long text exists
0RESP_PERS is an object, why can't be used for compouning?
Could you please tell me why ?

Hi Jingying Sony,
One can mark an infoobject as an Attribute Only in the General tab.
This means that the infoobject will only act as an attribute and cannot be used as a characteristic in infocubes. Neither can it be used as a navigational attribute and I guess it may not be available for compounding then(since in compounding - it implicitly becomes a characteristic).

If you uncheck this checkbox, then may be it will allow you to compound this characteristic..
You may try with a (self created) ZRESP_PERS reference chararacteristic of 0RESP_PERS, to confirm this.

Creating a new apple id for my wife

I currently have one Apple ID and run iTunes on a Windows 7 PC. This is synced to 2 iPhones, 2 iPads and 2 iPods as well as 2 Apple TV's. All the Apps purchased, updated and shared between all the devices are controlled using iTunes depending on whose iphone etc is connected.
This has worked quite successfully till now but if we use imessage on the phones it gets very confusing and for that reason I would like to set up a new Apple ID for my wifes iPhone and iPad. What I don't understand is the implications of this with regard to all the previously purchased Apps. Will she loose access to these when I sign in on iTunes to her new Apple ID. Are there any other issues I should be aware off before going down this route. Will all my music and films still be available for her to load on her iPhone and iPad ? Any advice and help much appreciated.

Thanks for the question, and what a great question it is.
You are absolutely right, there are some tweaks we will want to make to continue the configuration you have right now. My recommendation? Create a new Apple ID for your Wife, but only use this Apple ID for iMessage/FaceTime.
There are four different accounts you can be signed into on an iOS device: iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, and iTunes and App Stores. Theoretically, you could be signed into four separate accounts for each of these. For your situation, your Wife would only sign into iMessage and FaceTime with her account, and continue to use the family account for iTunes and App Stores.

Once you pull the data, goup on the date monthly, most recent first ,and then graph the summaries in the group.

We are experiencing poor performance in our Dev/Test work repositories.
This may be due to geographic reasons. The dev/test reps are in different location thousand miles apart from Master/prod work rep.
Am considering creating a seperate Master rep for dev/test. Is this just a matter of:
1. create sql space and new master repository including assigning unique repository ID
3. Export/Import master rep from Production environment using MIMport utility in bin of ODI directory
4. repoint existing dev/test work reps connections to new Master rep?
This is a fairly low use ODI 10g implementation that support Hyperion Planning implementation. Not too many interfaces, changes etc. to manage day to day.
Your advice is appreciated.

How to create a push pull list?

I am trying to create a push pull list and thought there was some easy way to do this? I have looked everywhere and can't find anything about these.
I just want to be able to do something similar to the push pull found in the master detail wizard when you push columns over to display.
Do I need custom javascript for this?

Follow these steps in htmldb:
Create New Page
Form
Master Detail Form
Then select a table in your schema
There are 2 boxes below - available columns and displayed columns. You can use the buttons in the middle to push and pull (or add and remove).
This is what I call a push pull list and I assumed that as it was used here then the same functionality is available for use elsewhere (like in a wizard for an item maybe).

Unable to create wage types in It0015 for Zambia

Hi Friends,
I want to create Wage types in IT0015 - Additional Payments for Zambia. But I am unable to find any model wage types which can be copied to create the custome wage type for country grouping ZM - Zambia.
I also tried to copy the wage typse by using the functionality "copy between country groupings" but I am unable to find Zambia in the country groupings drop down list.
Can someone pls help asap. Its an urgent client requirement.

Thanks to all of you for trying to solve my problem but at last the solution was very easy which I could find myself.
There is a custome table T500L_CUST in which I can configure Zambia country grouping and accordingly create a wage type catalog for Zambia by copying the wage types from other countries 99 or in that matter any country.
Let me know if anyone has any doubt in this.

Third party garbage matte for ppro cs5?

Hi there!
I started using ppro cs5 some months ago, coming from fcp, because of the gamma issue in fcp, because of the fact that you can import Red's r3d's directly and because ppro and redcine x communicate nicely. To my amazement there's no decent way of handling a garbage matte, i.e. smoothing it or using edge feather. I'm not about to spend another large sum on after effects--if it communicates directly with ppro like redcine x I will, but I'm afraid it's a question of exporting and importing, which I really dislike--in other words: does anyone know about a third party plugin with a decent garbage matte for ppro cs5?

The build in gargage is no good as you cannot feather it BUT...
....you can make your own garbage matte in the Titler. Make a filled bezier shape in pure white.
superimpose over you footage and add a blur to make it feather.
Add Track Matte Effect to footage and set this to the matte.
If you want an animated matte drop the garbage matte effect on a white color matte, add the blur and keyframe the points over time.

Help with pulling records for the last 24 hours

I don't know what is wrong with me but I can not figure out how to get Crystal to pull records for the last 24 hours. I have a date field I can key off of but I can not figure out the formula or correct syntax to put in the Selection formula. Any help would be great!! Thanks

No need to create any formula. In your record selection criteria type:
{table.date} in dateadd("h",-24,currentdatetime) to currentdatetime
If you just want the prior 24hrs and do not care about the time then replace 'currentdatetime' with 'currentdate'.
(currentdatetime - 24) will give you 24 days before and not 24 hours.

Matte For Timewarp Question

This is probably obvious, I've worked with mattes before however not in conjunction with Timewarp. Do I need to add a new Adjustment Layer above the Adjustment Layer the Timewarp effect is applied to, and draw the matte there? And then select that layer as the Matte Layer in the Effects Panel? And if so what should the layer order be?
Or do I draw it the matte on the adjustment layer where the effect resides? Then choosing that layer as the matte layer??

And if I must create an Adjustment Layer for each matte/mask, what should the Matte Layer pulldown reflect?
This screen shot still has my old mask in place, but does the setup look correct to you?
After completing the masks, I believe I would pre-render as Dave orders, correct? Will this give me a Pre-comp? Or should I just render out to a production codec and bring it back into the Master Comp?

I am using windows service to poll the conference from Exchange Room Calendar. To my client request, we have to move for the "PULL SUBSCRIPTION". our existing work flow is completely based on Room not by the user. I tried the Pull subscription
for user it returns the events which is created in user calendar. Is it possible to authenticate user account (who is having impersonate access) and access Room Calendar's events.
If it is possible please reply with some example.

As long as you have rights to the Resources calendar folder you should be able to just use Delegate Access

Creating a 16:9 matte

I just got my footage back from telecine. Originally I shot 4:3 and then during the transfer had the footage letterboxed to 16:9. However, this particular shoot has been an ongoing project and some of the footage I kept as standard 4:3. Now, that I've had a chance to look at everything edited together I realized that I want it all to be letterboxed and rather than send it back to telecine to be letterboxed I was wondering if there was a way to create a letterbox matte in FCP. I already tried to use the widescreen matte in FCP and it doesn't match exactly. The top and bottom portion of the matte has a little more room then the telecine's version. IS THERE A WAY TO CREATE A CUSTOM LETTERBOX MATTE SO THAT IT MATCHES THE FOOTAGE WE HAD TRANFERRED TO OUR HARDRIVE?

you can use a SLUG on two video tracks not used. In the VIEWER window click the A and select SLUG.
Lay a slug over your footage (if you are using V1 and V2 put the SLUGs on V3 and V4) and 2click on it to open in viewer. The goto the motion tab and crop to desired size (for the top LB bar try 82 BOTTOM crop then fine tune from there) Put a 2nd SLUG on the next highest unused video track and repeat steps for the lower LB bar.

User Exit for Compounded Key

I have written a FM that was included in a user exit. The purpose of my user exit is to restrict certain Accounts that my Query uses. The problem that I run into is that the Account is a numerical value which is NOT a key. For example, I could have one account that exists in two different reporting divisions such as Africa and Asia and might not want to restrict Africa. If I don't take into consideration the divison, then I will be eliminating required Accounts. I thought about creating a seperate user exit for the reporting division but then I might run into the problem of eliminating certain Accounts that are associated with that division. I'm thinking that If I create another user exit for the division, then I will somehow have to link the two(not sure how this would work). Secondly, the divison and account is a compounded key in my InfoCube. There is not InfoObject that holds the compounded key so I can not create a variable of this type.
I'm not sure what would be the best way to solve this problem so any input you can give is greatly appreciated.
