Creating a digital scrapbook slideshow

I am trying to create a digital "scrapbook", to be burned to DVD. I want to do it as a slideshow, but rather than only include photos I will be constructing slides in Appleworks...which might include captions, backgrounds, and other embellishments.
My question is...if I create a 12"x12" page in Appleworks how will that translate to iDVD. Will I end up with a 12x12 image in the middle of my TV screen? Or will it adjust its size to the largest square possible? Also...if I'm creating 12x12 pages that means I have to save the images that are a part of that page at a smaller size...will they lose resolution if they are blown up to tv screen size?
Any tips on how to do this would be much appreciated. I don't have iDVD on my iBook...I have to create the slideshow on my computer and then take it to my mom's house and burn the DVD on her emac.
Thanks.
Katie

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
iPhoto and Preview both have nice slideshow options. iMovie does too.
What version of iLife do you have?

  • If I make a photo album in iPhoto, will it read well in an iPad? I want a photo flip book? Or is there a better app for me to create a digital scrapbook that I can share?

Hi, I'm interested in creating a photo scrapbook in iPhoto, but I want to send it as a gift in digital form?  Ideally, I want the pictures, writing and images to view well in an iPad, like a customized FlipBook. Can you recommend an app or program that I can use, that doesn't require printing?
    Thank you,
    Tania

iPhoto is a consumer level photo storage and manipulation program,
It stores it's files in the iPhoto Library, which appears to be a file, but if right clicked on and "show package contents" is actually a folder with it's sensitive guts inside, including a folder called Modified and Originals which you can Finder > File > Duplicate and transfer out.
If you use iPhoto to delete a photo, it IS removed off your hard drive as well but only from the iPhoto Library folder/package, not anywhere else on your drive as iPhoto is supposed to import a copy if say you have some on your desktop already and import them into iPhoto.
So it shouldn't touch anything outside your iPhoto Library. So how you organize photo's outside your iPhoto Library is your business, however don't expect iPhoto to respect your wishes inside the iPhoto Library package, that's really reserved for iPhoto use only.

  • Digital Scrapbooking - Changing page sizes  Elements 4

I downloaded a "paper" from a disgital scrapbooking web site, to be used as a background for creating a digital scrapbook page. The paper was 12 X 12 in. Is there a way for me to convert it to a 8 X 11.5 in. in the Elements workplace? I tried to resize, but the "smallest" I could get it to go to was 8 X 8 in. Thanks.

    Kathy,
You are going from a square layout to a rectangular layout. To do that,
you need to either crop off part of the image or to scale the horizontal and
vertical dimensions to different sizes. Which method you use will depend
somewhat on what your background image looks like.
The first thing you should do is set your image resolution using the
"Image>Resize>Image Resize..." command from the menu. When you use that
command, you'll see a section in the middle labeled "Document Size" and it
contains the width, height, and resolution of the image.
I assume you are going to print the page. For that, the resolution needs to
be set to something in the range of 200 to 300 pixel per inch for an inkjet
printer (larger prints can use a lower number, you want 8.5x11 so I would
use 300 personally). Your background may already be at 300. I'm not a
scrapebooker, so I went to a few sites and looked at a few backgrounds. The
ones I saw were all 3600x3600 pixels and 300 pixels/inch which would
correspond to 12x12 inches. I don't know if that's a de facto standard or
not. But, if it is, you may already be at 300 and don't need to change it.
If you need to change the resolution, uncheck the "Resample Image" checkbox
and then type in the new resolution.
Ok, you're now at 300 pixels per inch and your document dimensions are still
    12 inchs by 12 inches.
There are several ways you can change the dimensions.
An easy way, if your image doesn't contain any elements that would suffer
from distortion is to scale the horizontal and vertical dimensions
independently. You should still be in the Image Resize dialog box.
Uncheck the "Constrain Proportions" checkbox and Check the "Resample Image"
check box. Now, type 8.5 in the width field and 11 in the height field.
Click on OK to keep the changes and exit the Image Resize dialog box. You
will now have an 8.5x11 inch image at 300 ppi.
If the background has elements that you don't want to distort, follow the
same procedure but type in 11 in both the height and width field. This will
make an 11 inch square image at 300 ppi which you can then crop to 8.5 x11
    inches.
Select the crop tool from the tool bar. In the options bar, set width to
8.5 inches and height to 11 inches. Do not type anything in the resolution
field, leave that blank. Now, move the cursor to the top left corner of the
image, click and drag the cursor down and to the right until the cursor
reaches the bottom of the image. The crop area will be 8.5 x 11. If
necessary, click in the crop area and drag to reposition the location. Press
enter or click on the check in the options bar to crop the image.
Save the background image as new file and don't save over the old one. You
want to keep your original image intact for future use.
    Hope this helps,
    Bob
P.S. I see Ward was faster than I was :-) Hi Ward!
Ward's method works just as well as mine. There are lots of ways to do
    things in Elements.

  • Can II have create a 160 photo slideshow as a looping DVD for a TV set DVD?

I have ~160 digital photos that I would like to run as a looping show for a family party. They range in size from .5 to 1.5 mb. I know each chapter in iDVD5 has a 99 picture limit, so that won't work for me.
I've imported the photos from iPhoto while in iMovieHD, put transitions between them, then imported that project while in iDVD. It had 2 chapters (one with 99 pics) with one chapter set to loop. I burned it and could watch it on my tv's dvd (a Samsung), though it did not loop at all. The DVD wouldn't even play on a Sony DVD player.
I can't quite justify (or afford a Final Cut product), but might have hit the limit of iLife.

Can I have create a 160 photo slideshow as a looping DVD for a TV set DVD?
Not sure why your iMovie method did not work. If you put your iMovie in the "autoplay" area you see in the map layout of iDVD and set it to "loop" in the advanced menu, it should loop just fine.

If this didn't work on some DVD players, you might try another brand of DVD-R. I like verbatim.
Alternatively, you can make the slideshow in iPhoto and use "Send to iDVD" - this also creates a QT file, so it is not subject to the 99 slide limit.

  • Need tips on creating a movie and slideshow to show with a projector

I'm putting together videos and a photo slideshow for a reunion. I'll be using photos of various sizes and quality. The projector will be rented, so I can't practice with it, but I got the info on it: 3 LCD, 1100 lumens, 1024x768 native resolution, 4:3 aspect ratio, throw distance 5' to 50'. The audience will be about 100 people.
I have created several movies with slideshows which have been burned to DVD for viewing on a TV, but I've never done any for projection on a screen using my laptop. It is my understanding that reducing photos to a video resolution reduces the quality because no matter what the resolution of the digital photo, the video output is going to be 720x480. Since the quality of the old 126 and 110 film photos are not very good to start with, I was wondering if they would look better if I could show them using Adobe Photoshop Elements' slideshow feature on my laptop and then switch to showing a Premiere file for the movie?
I've learned from my movie slideshow mistakes when the TV chopped off heads (outside the safe margin). I'm sure there are some pitfalls when using a projector, but I don't know what they are. Could those with projector experience give me some pointers? Thanks so much.

If this projector is going to run from a laptop, you do not have to go with DVD, which, as you point out, will be 720 x 480. However, much will depend now, on what your Video source material is. You will want to create the New Project to match that. Then, with your stills, you can Scale those to that Project Preset, before Import.
When done editing, you can Export/Share to an AV format, that the Projector can use. You would basically launch the AV file in say WMP, and feed that from the Video Out to the projector. A format, like WMV should work well. The smoothness of the playback will depend on the I/O of the laptop. With the WMV, you can choose a Frame size that matches the Projector.
Let's say that you have 720p material, then that would be the Project Preset, and the stills would be scaled to approximately that Frame Size. Doing that Scaling in PSE will be much better than letting PrE do it for you. I would have those images scanned at a high resolution, and then look at some of the Scaling algorithms in PSE. I do not know the possible options for Interpolation in PSE, but in PS, I normally go with Bicubic Smoother, however you might find that Bicubic Sharper is better. Only your eyes can tell. Also, if you need to Scale UP from your scans, you can use Stair-stepping to do this, basically doing several Scale operations (Resample checked) at 10% + 10%, etc., until you have Scaled to the necessary size.
    Good luck,

  • How to create the digital clock in java swing application ?

I want to create the running digital clock in my java swing application. Can someone throw some light on this how to do this ? Or If someone has done it then can someone pl. paste the code ?
    Thanks.

    hi prah_Rich,
I have created a digital clock you can use. You will most likely have to change some things to use it in another app although that shouldn't be too hard. A least it can give you some ideas on how to create one of your own. There are three classes. One that creates the numbers. a gui class and frame class.
    cheers:)

  • I created a 23 minute slideshow with music. how can I share it? youtube and smugmug both say it is too large?

I created a 23 minute slideshow with music of family vacation. Youtube and smugmug both said it was too large to post for my family.
suggetions please?? I use to use Mobileme...

A few different ways about this. You could split the slide show into smaller sections that are withi the limits for posting and then post each section.
You could try a different encoding to make the file smaller. What settings did you use when you created and exported the slide show?

  • How do I create a digital signature on a TCP or a UDP flow?

I am trying to convert samples of a voice signal, which is intercepted from the microphone, into fixed length digital signature bytes (using Hash, or) and attach these fixed length bytes to a communication session between two terminals (UDP or TCP "HTTP"). The other receving end should be able to identify the person at the sending side.
Any thoughts how I could do this?
    Any help is most appreciated.
    Sam

    Sam,
If you have the Sound and Vibration toolkit it may make some things easier for you regarding the voice-recording aspect, but if you aren't recording and playing back the actual sounds, just using this for detection and digital signatures, you shouldn't need to worry about this.
    1. For this you are going to be doing some form of Analog Input.  Then you will be storing this data to a file.  There are examples for both of these aspects in the NI Example Finder from within LabVIEW.
    2. If you are going to be doing the FFT, there is a VI under the Mathematics Palette that performs this operation.  Again you can use the same example for saving data to the file.
    3. You would need to figure out what needs to be done to create a digital signature for this.  There may be something in the Sound and Vibration toolkit for this, but I do not know.
    4. For the UDP or TCP transfers, there are several examples for doing this and they cover how to create the connection and transfer / receive data.  These too are in the NI Example Finder
    5. This goes back to number 4, this would indeed be a separate program, but everything else would just be one project and one program.
    6. This would depend on how the ID was created in step 3, again whether you do the algorithm on yourself or not.  For comparing to the table, you would use a Search Array and some comparison functions, all depending on how you stored the data initially.
    7. Graphs are all available on your Front Panel of your VIs and you would just wire up the data that you'd like and have it displayed on the graph.
There will not be an example for everything that you are wanting to do.  The examples are meant to help you get started.  Have you used LabVIEW before?  I would recommend doing the 3 Hour LabVIEW Introduction Course to help you get started.  This will cover some of the basic concepts that you will need to know in order to create your application.
Unfortunately I cannot write the code for you, only guide and direct you.  LabVIEW is a programming language and does require the user to lay out and create their own program.  You will not be able to just find three or four pre-built code-snippets and connect them together to get your appliction working the way you want it.  You will need to develop the applications yourself.

  • How do I create a digital signature to use when filling out applications online?

The application is asking me to add or create a digital ID to sign and encrypt documents. The certificate that comes with your digital ID is sent to others so that they can verify your signature.
I have four options: Browse for an existing digital ID file
Configure a roaming ID for use on this computer
Create a self-signed digital ID for use with Acrobat
Look for newly inserted hardware tokens

Formscentral does not support forms with digital signature workflows. I suggest you see if our Echosign product meets your needs.

  • How to create a digital signature in adobe reader

how to create a digital signature in adobe reader?

Adobe Reader Touch (Windows Store app with "modern" UI) does not support any types of signatures yet.
    Digital Signatures with certificates
Electronic Signatures (that are legally enforceable)
Signature annotations (hand-writing annotations which may not be secure and legally enforceable)
Adobe Reader XI (traditional desktop app with classic UI) supports #1 and #3.
    Adobe EchoSign supports #2.
Adobe Reader for iOS/Android supports #3.

In Adobe X Pro, how do I create a digital signature in my document so that my receiver is able to sign it electronically.

If the other person will be using Reader, you should first add a digital signature field and then Reader enable the form. In Acrobat 10 you'd select: Tools > Forms > Edit
to get into form editing mode. You'd then select the signature field tool to add a signature field.
Once you have the document finalized, Reader-enable the document by selecting: File > Save As > Reader-Extended PDF > Enable Additional Features
being sure to save to a new file so you don't overwrite the original. If you don't Reader-enable, Reader users won't be able to digitally sign.

  • How do I create jump to (page) links using DPS in creating a digital page turner for a catalog?

I know how to use "navto" to jump to pages within the catalog created for our app.
We want to use the same article files to create a digital page turner using DPS but cannot figure out how to do it. Google searches lead to answers that say it isn't possible, but if i view a page turner I created in 3D Issue via Adobe's Content Viewer, the pages jump (via the links I made in 3D Issue).
I just can't believe that a huge company like Adobe has no way to do this in DPS.

On pages you do not want to show-up delselect "include page in navigation menu" in the page inspector:

I have created a 12 minute slideshow on imovies and burned it through idvd.  I would like to share it with my relatives in Europe. what would be the best means of doing this? uTube? any other ideas?

You could put it on Youtube, but then they don't have a cop saved to their drive. You could also upload it to your Dropbox and make it public. Note the size of the file, Dropbox and Youtube can only handle such big files, and if your family has a good internet connection (download/playback speeed over bandwith).

    We are all users here.
There is no one here from Apple.
In order for you to develop and distribute content for the iPad, you need to become an apps developer.
Not sure where you sign up for this or who you have to call.
There should be a place on Apple's site that refers to a section of the site if you want to be an Apple iOS content developer.
It cost, I believe $99 U.S. to become an Apple apps developer. You'll agree to Apple's Non-disclosure rules.  You'll receive Apple's app/software developers kit,and access to Apple's app developer site.
No one here is going to be able to help you.
    Good Luck.
