Creating a DVD of a slideshow created in iPhotot

I've created three slideshows using the Ken Burns effect and would now like to produce a DVD of the same. My problem is, when I create a new DVD and open media, I don't see the slideshows listed in the iPhoto menu. I see the photo albums from which the slideshows were produced. Following the procedure described in iDVD help, of importing the iPhoto albums, I can't figure out how to re-apply the Ken Burns effect. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forums.
I'm not sure which process you're using in iDVD, but I'd think about going back to iPhoto and exporting (Sharing) your slideshows as Full Quality Quicktime movies. You'll preserve the KB effects.
You can drag these movies into the menu button area of iDVD (not the drop zones) and label the buttons as you wish. All three buttons will fit on one iDVD menu.

How do I create a DVD from a Slideshow residing in IPHOTO?

    1. Export it. This makes a QuickTime movie of it.
    2. Select an app to author the DVD - iDVD if you have iy, Toast or similar
    3. Create a DVD project in that app
    4. Add the movie to the project
    5. Burn it.

  • Creating DVD from iPhoto Slideshow with music

I'm trying to create a DVD of a slideshow with music that was created previously in iPhoto and then "Shared with iDVD". The .m4v file located in Pictures> iPhoto Slideshows is not accessible in iDVD. The only way I can make it work is to spend the hour or so required to start from scratch by clicking "Share with iDVD" from an open iPhoto slideshow, thus creating a .m4v file and then going directly to the iDVD menu that's automatically opened at the end of the "Share with iDVD" process. Any ideas?

When I'm going from iPhoto to iDVD with a slideshow, I get good results by Exporting from iPhoto to a large-sized Quicktime movie. I can preview the video and music, and if I'm happy, I can then just drop the Quicktime file onto the iDVD menu area (not into a drop zone, that's just eye candy). It's been a reliable process for me.

  • Idvd won't burn DVD of iphoto slideshow

Using iphoto 5.0.4 I've created a slide show, added music etc. It all works wonderfully in iphoto until I try to "send to idvd". (idvd 5.0.1) The idvd dialogue box indicates that it is exporting and everything seems in order until I plink the "burn" button in the box that appears when export has completed. Things whir for a while then I get an error message about burn failed. The rest of the error message varies from time to time but is usually something about menu. It sometimes ejects the partially burned disk, othertimes I have to shutdown and/or restart to get the disc to eject. I did get one satisfactory burn out of 11 attempts (I'm persistent). I'm using TDK DVD+R 1-16x disks.
Just putting the jpeg photos onto a disc works fine but its snafu time trying to burn a slideshow
This is what System Profiler says about my DVD drive:

Do I have a software or hardware problem? Is there a good way to reliably burn DVD's of slideshows.
On the one burn that worked, when played back, the pictures are not at all sharp or clear yet the original photos in iphoto and iphoto's slideshow are quite crisp. Is this just what I can expect from a burned DVD or are the burned slideshow photos supposed to be crisp?

You'll see various posts about image quality; one improvement results from resizing your photos -- see this and other suggestions at:

In terms of workflow, I prefer to Share/Export my slideshows from iPhoto to full-quality Quicktime movies. You can double-check the resulting movie before dragging it onto the iDVD menu area (not into a drop zone).
For burning, you'll reduce errors by using slow burn speeds and high quality discs. Verbatim is often recommended around here; I also like Sony. DVD-R are the most compatible with players, but perhaps this isn't a dramatic difference compared to DVD+R. To better control burn speeds, first create a disc image (Save as Disc Image) and then copy the disc image to your DVD (use Roxio Toast or Apple's Disk Utility).
There are a variety of other tips to improve the consistency of burns, so write back if you still have troubles.

  • I am trying to burn DVDs from iPhoto slideshows.  My pictures number in the hundreds and we know that iPhoto captures 99 and then "starts over".  This plays fine from the Mac Book but glitches arise on the DVD when playing it on a DVD player.  Any suggsts

I am trying to burn DVDs from iPhoto slideshows.  My pictures number in the hundreds and we know that iPhoto captures 99 and then "starts over".  This plays fine from the Mac Book but glitches arise on the DVD when playing it on a DVD player.  Any suggestions on how to overcome the 99 "Chapter limitation" that IPhoto has?  Has anyone heard or tried an app called Vilisoft?  I read good things but I am not sure if it will do what I want.
    Jim

Then use multipel 99 picture slideshows.
You can have up to 8 or 9 slideshows per menu.  If you add a sub menu reduce that by 1 and add 8 more to the sub menu.  The top menu can have links to up to 8 or so submenus (depends on the theme) and each submenu can have up to 8 or so slideshows.
However, converting a very large slideshow to a QT movie as Terence suggested does not envoke the 99 slide limit in iDVD.  It just becomes a single video/movie file.  So you should not have a problem with exporting at the large size, 720 x 540,
and dragging the resulting file into the iDVD menu being sure to avoid any drop zones.

  • The aspect ratio of this file is  not support by DVD. Possible slideshow error?

    hello everyone,
I will try to give as much information as possible.  Dont scream at me if i forget anything.  For starters, I just learned how to use Adobe Encore CS4.  I taught my self between reading the  help files and videos I found on the web.   I am an amateur when it comes to DVD authoring (could have alot to do with my problem).  Im an animator and I am making a DVD to show my demo reel, drawings, and i have a storyboard to final comparison video.  I designed all of my menus in photoshop.  I have one transition that was animated in after effects that was imported using dynamic link.  My demo reel is a mov file at 640x360 widescreen, half the size of HD 720p.  The comparison video is a premiere file from dynamic link (same size as the demo reel). There is some background music for the menus. Then I have 3 slideshows, and i believe this is where the error is coming from.  Most of the artwork has the same dimensions but there are some that are larger or smaller.  Some are jpg, but most are PSD files.  The slide show is set to manual advance with music in the background. I have no transition effects on the slideshow.  When building the DVD, i believe when it says "starting project" after all the importing was done,i get the error
The aspect ratio of this file is  not support by DVD. PGC info: name= Figure Drawing (name of the slideshow and a menu button) ref=Fpgc, time=234.2340s
I just tried to build the DVD without the slideshow and I still get the error. Possibly a menu issue? I have no idea. Ive ran into errors before but I was able to get through the others.  I just cant seem to find a solution to this error. Even after searching the forums for similar problems. Hopefully, the solution is simple. If more info is needed let me know.  I really need this DVD to send out for jobs!! Thanks everyone.
    Brandon

When doing SlideShows, whether in Encore (somewhat limited), or in PrPro, it is always better to re-size outside of these programs, prior to Import. I use Photoshop (PS) to do this, and use an Action to get everything in the proper Mode, Color Space, Size - everything. I always do a Save_As and use .PSD files. I also Save a working version, incase I have Flattened, etc., for Import into the NLE/authoring app.
JPEG's *should* work fine too, though there is the JPEG compression to deal with. Might not be an issue, but for max quality, I start with RAW images, process to .PSD's, and then work from copies of these, to get my still Assets ready for PrPro, or En.
I either size exactly to my Project Preset, or to exactly what I need, if say I will pan across a zoomed out image. In a major Project, I may have sub-folders with 4 different sizes of image - based precisely on what I will need to do with that/those image(s). If I will not need to do any animation on any images, then I use that Project Preset (including the correct PAR) and they work perfectly. This also eliminates any unnecessary overhead on the system.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • I want to burn a DVD of a slideshow I made using iPhoto.  Can anyone tell me how?

I have made a slide show from photos in iPhoto.  It works fine and I have published it to my "me gallery".  I now want to make a DVD of this slideshow.  I have tried to use an old version of Toast and I get an error message after the slideshow has been formated and "supposedly" burned.  I've tried to burn it from the iTunes application and that doesn't work either.  Can anyone help?

I would post in the iPhoto forum.

  • Multi-Slideshow DVD - Play All Slideshows on Menu

Burned a DVD with 6 slideshows (6 menu buttons). When selecting any menu button, only that specific slideshow plays and then returns to the menu. How can I configure so that all slideshows automatically play in succession when a menu button is selected? Example: If Button 1 is selected, slideshows 1 - 6 will play and then return to the menu after slideshow 6. All suggestions/advice is greatly appreciated.

it's iDvd's big brother and part of Final Cut Studio 2 (it's a bit more expensive than iDvd or Toast as well as having a longer learning curve). Essentially it's Apple's top end DVD authoring software.
I have an older standalone version (DVDSP3) which works well on a G4 733 Digital Audio Power Mac. And in the past, that's the way apple sold the Pro Apps (individually).
Today things are a bit different.
Apple has since chosen to bundle the pro apps into a suite of apps called Final Cut Studio 2. It contains apple's Final Cut Pro 6, Compressor, DVDSP 4, Motion 3, Color, etc. (not sure if apple still includes a QT Pro Key or not. If not then it's about $30 extra and can be activated via QT Pro Registration process).

  • DVD STUDIO PRO SLIDESHOW VOLUME?

Hey all...so i finally burned my DVD...while checking it, i noticed that the volume for the slideshow music was WAY TOO HIGH compared to the rest of the Menu music i had added...i cannot find a Volume level for the music anywhere like did on IDVD...help...does anyone know how to adjust the audio levels for the dvd menus and slideshows so that they are all the same? thanks

DVDSP is a little different to iDVD in this respect. It follows a more high end work flow, and forces you to get the levels and assets correct before you start to author the disc. There are no audio tools inside DVDSP which, at it's basic level, is a tool for compiling the assets into a navigable DVD. It isn't a composition tool in any way really, although it does have things like the menu editor and so on.
The only way to get the audio correct is to do it outside of DVDSP and then import the correct version with the right levels and add it to the track in DVDSP.

  • Unable to create dvd from Iphoto slideshow?

I am unable to create a dvd slideshow from Iphoto.  Any suggestions?

Yes. Here's some suggestions for getting help:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.
Posts that consist of "iPhoto doesn't work. Help" or "iPhoto won't print" or "Suddenly I have no photos!!!!!!!!!!" mean that any helper is simply guessing. With information, s/he may be able to get your issue resolved sooner.

  • I have two questions.  How do I burn a DVD from a slideshow created in IPhoto without using IDVD which is no longer available?!!  And is there any way to control the automatic zooming in my slideshow?

I know IMac messed up by no longer offering IDVD OR ILIFE on their new computers. Yes I too am mad I spent the money.  But does anyone have a solution  on how to work with the limited programs I did get?  Or what programs do you suggest I purchase to be able to do something as simple as burn a slidewshow on a DVD!!!!  I already purchases Xilisoft DVD which does not allow for photos only videos.  I want to use both!  I have had my new mac less than a year.  Can I still return it?

    If you contact Apple at
U.S. iPod, Mac and iPad technical support:
    (800) APL-CARE (800-275-2273)
You should be able to get a copy of the original DVDs for  a nominal charge.

  • How can I make a DVD of a slideshow I have in iPhoto?c

I have created a slideshow in iPhoto using the Vintage theme. I want to burn this slideshow to a DVD for viewing at my Grandma's funeral. After creating the slideshow, I clicked on the "Export" tab at the bottom in the toolbar, then I clicked on "Share" to iDVD from the dropdown menu. After several minutes , I check iDVD but the slideshow is not there.
Can someone please tell me how to burn my slideshow to a DVD? I've done it before using iMovie '09 (I think), but I can't seem to get it with iMovie '11. I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.8
    Thank you for your help,
    Curtis

I thinnk I figured it out! After exporting the movie it went into a folder called iPhoto Slideshows. It was saved as an mwv.4 file, so I went to iMovie and went to the file dropdown menu and went to import movie. I located the movie with the Finder box and imported it into iMovie.
From there I can share it thru the Media Browser link under the Share Menu to iDVD and burn the slideshow.
