Creating a file in a network drive

Hi,
Is it possible to create a file in a shared folder present in a different network drive(a folder in a system other that MII server which is neither FTP nor a webserver) and is there a way to get the list of files present in the same folder(a folder in a system other that MII server).
Thanks,

Hi,
For Write action to be successful, the Internet Guest Account user for the machine must have write access to the directory.
*This obviously only applies to 11.5 which used Windows IIS*
Check and let me know.
Thanks
Rajesh Sivaprakasam.

Not a document should be uploaded, but a link should be created. The link is to a file in the network drive.
    Is this possible?

  • Can't preview files from a network drive to a local CF9 server.

    Hi,
I have the following set up:
    CF9 Local Dev version
    CF Builder 2.
Project files are in a network drive N:\project
I have RDS set up and everything seems to work ok, view DSN, files, etc on my local server.
In the URL prefix section I even created a map:
    Local Path: N:\project,
    URL prefix: http://localhost:8500/project/
There is no FTP set up on the CF9 server.
The problem is that when I try to preview a file that I am working on from N:\project, it doesn't show on my local server. The previewing part works if I manually move the file to CF9. But it is the automatic uploading (or moving) of the file to the local CF9  that doesn't seem to work.
BTW, I have a similar set up in DreamWeaver, where I am editing the same project (or site in this case) off of  N:\project, uploading to the same local CF9 server through RDS, and it works fine.
I know that if in CF Builder you move the project to under the web root it will work but that would not work for us, since we need to keep the project source files on a network drive for sharing/backup purposes.
Has anyone been able to successfully preview source files from a network drive on a local CF9 server?
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi again,
After doing some more googling I realize that for files to be previewed the MUST be under wwwroot. This wasn't too clear in the CF documentation.
    So my new question is:
Is there are way, once I save a file to automatically copy it from one location(N:\project) to another (c:/ColdFusion9/wwwroot/project)?
I think there is a way to do it with Ant or some sort of Eclipse feature, but I am not too familiar with either. Could someone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks,

  • Why can't Lightroom open or create a catalog on a network drive?

I just filled up my external drive and spent over $1300 on a Drobo NAS to find out Lightroom can't open or create a catalog on a network drive? EPIC FAIL!!!!
How do I store over 8 TB of catalogs on my NAS and still be able to access them? Do I need to copy the catalogs and pictures from a local drive to a NAS, then copy them back to my local drive if I ever want to use them?
I can't believe this is the case. There really is no reason you shouldn't be able to store a catalog on a network drive. How do I fix or get around this?

Yes, I really have 8 TB of photography. Its from the past 10 years of dozens of worldwide photography jobs. Granted, not all of it is in Lightroom yet, but much of it is. I used Aperture until Apple abandoned all of its professional software development and have been moving to Lightroom for a while now. Aperture is able to use the NAS as a storage drive, no problem and it uses a database as well, so I really don't see why Lightroom can't do it.
I have an 8 TB Drobo connected by Firewire to my iMac and storing photos on it for Lightroom (and Aperture prior to that) and it works fine. But it's filling up and I wanted some archive storage so I didn't have to have Lightroom catalogs and Aperture libraries on it I really don't use on a regular basis. So I got the Drobo FS800 loaded up with 12 TB of space as a network storage server to make sure everything is safely backed up. I am slowly converting my old Aperture libraries to Lightroom, one at a time as well as using Lightroom for everything I have done for about the last two years.
But it is completely impractical to have to store the pictures and catalog on the NAS Drobo, then have to copy it all over to a local drive if I ever want to find a photograph in on a Lightroom catalog. It will takes hours if not a day to do that, just so I can open it. So I may see if I can store the pictures on the NAS Drobo but keep the catalog on the local Drobo. But I hate the idea of not keeping everything together. It something happens and the shots getting separated from the catalog, I have no idea what will happen or if it will be easy to re-connect the media. I also want to keep a backup of the catalog, but I think the built-in catalog vaults will do that.
But again, Apple's Aperture could keep everything together and has not problem pulling it off a NAS, local drive or anywhere. Really hard to imagine why Adobe can't do the same thing, especially since Aperture is overall so obsolete in every other way to Lightroom by now.  Guess I need to try a few things and see if I can make this work. But really not comfortable splitting catalogs up on different drives than the picture files are located.

  • Can I "cache" large RAW files imported from network drive on local drive?

I've seen discussions similar to this topic, regarding "offline" editing, but not exact answers I'm looking for.
I'm copying RAW files from a shoot onto my network RAID drive in a per-album folder, from where I then import into a new LR catalog (I'm using LR 4.1) on my Windows laptop for that album.
I'm finding that editing RAW files on a network drive from a wireless laptop is awfully slow (not to mention not being able to continue the work offline somewhere else), so I'd like to cache those files on my speedy SSD drive just until I'm done editing and exporting/publishing that album.
I back up my per-album catalog onto the network folder alongside the RAW files since that's my IT-managed master repository. When I'm done editing, I'd purge the cached files and just keep the catalog previews on my limited capacity SSD.
So, is there a way to tell LR to, for one/all files imported from a location (in my case a network folder), look in an alternate location for the identical files? Since I create per-album catalogs in per-album folders, there wouldn't be filename clashing. Either LR can provide this caching behavior on its own or I'd manually copy files from the network folder to a local folder and tell LR to look there first.
I don't really want to make copies of files into secondary folders within LR since then it's a hassle to merge edits on the cached copy to its master copy (I haven't done this, but I'd imagine so).
    Thanks for your workflow tips.
    Erhhung

Have you tried locating your ACR Raw cache on this SSD drive, also ensuring that the size limit of this cache is large enough, to keep a goodly chunk of these Raw images all in play at the same time?
My understanding is that for performance reasons, LR will be caching your Raw data locally in any case - on conventional hard disk by default. And it will be doing so in an intermediate half-converted form (demosaiced into "sensor RGB space" but not translated into "picture RGB values" - the latter process varies depending on your live Develop adjustments).
So long as this cache has not run short, and reallocated space for something else, LR should (as far as I know) not be needing to go back to the network drive to re-fetch actual Raw content. And keeping that cache somewhere fast rather than somewhere slow, should improve responsiveness.
I imagine, though, that LR will continually check the availability and the unchanged timestamp of the real source file; and wouldn't let you carry on working from automatically cached data otherwise.

  • I am trying to delete an XLS file from a network drive and am getting a message that says the file cannot be deleted because it is in use.  I can't see where it is in use and have tried to reboot the computer to no avail.

I am trying to delete an XLS file from a network drive and am getting a message that says the file cannot be deleted because it is in use.  I can't see where it is in use and have tried to reboot the computer to no avail.  I can delete other files but several XLS files are giving me this message.

You said it was a network drive.  So is someone else on the network using that same file or may have have left with excel still accessing it on their system?

  • How do I find a file on a network drive?

I cannot seem to get Spotlight to search on my network drive.
There is a file on my network drive and I simply cannot find it.
    What is the secret?

Have you tried cmd-F in the Finder to bring up the finder search window. Do this when you've got a Finder window for your network drive open, and then you should be able to select the folder name of the mounted network resource and then do a search for either file contents or name.

  • How to recover deleted files on a Network Drive

I am running the latest OS environment, and I purchased a LaCie Network drive that is attached to my airport. Two nights ago, my house took a power hit/outage. I did not suffer any hardware damage, however, I lost significant data on my network drive where my iTunes library resides.
When I look at the drive contents, I find approximately 50% of the actual music files; however, the iTunes library file is gone as is much of the music. Therefore, when I open iTunes, the library is completely blank - no file listing, no playlists, etc. I suspect that the files all still exist on the drive and I would like to recover the files.
Is there a Data Recovery software utility that recovers files from a network drive? I located 4 data recovery software programs; however, none of these can access a network drive - they only work with local drives. Is there a utility to go after the network drive?
The LaCie drive is a network only drive. It is ethernet connected, and I attempted to direct connect it; however, the Mac OS does not recognize (i.e. find) the drive. The drive is 1TB and I have it split to do automatic duplication. I have removed one drive so that I have a copy of the original data - post power hit, and I have one drive that we can "play with"
    thanks

    Hi
I would say your best solution would be to purchase a 3.5" SATA enclosure (preferably Firewire; USB will be slower) and put your working drive in there for the purpose of data recovery. You never want to attempt data recovery over a network.

  • Use Oracle Attachment for file located in network drive

    Hi,
We have a requirement to attach the item drawing file to the inventory master item record. The drawing file is stored in a network directory. However, the attachment type of web page only supports http:// not file:\\\.
If we do not want to load the drawing file as a file attachment, is there any other of attach the file to the item record so it can be opened either in browser or by the local PC automatically?
    Thanks,
    Yi

    Hi Rao,
this is less a MII than a browser or mapping problem.
You can access a local file in a browser like this:
    window.open('file:///c:/folder/file.txt');
However, in case of MII local means local to the MII server. So in the above example the file is located on the c driver of the MII server.
If you want to access files on a network drive, the folders to the files should be mapped on the MII server so you are able to address them like they were local files.
I haven't tried to address network folders directly, because we are running MII on Unix.

  • Lightroom has trouble reading RAW files on my network drive ("The file appears to be unsupported or

Hey guys, I currently run LR5 on Mac OSX.  I've had my RAWs on an external HDD and have smart previews built for those files.  Recently, I upgraded to a new router, the ASUS RT-N65U, and plugged in my WD My Passport Ultra HDD (FAT32 filesystem) into to.  Now I've put my RAWs on the network drive, and verified via MD5 checksums that the files are being read correctly (albeit rather slowly) from the network drive.
However, whenever I try to view one of the photos on the network drive, Lightroom complains, "The file appears to be unsupported or damaged".  I've verified via MD5 that the files are not damaged.  Does anyone know how I can get LR to be happy with the files on my network drive?
(Bonus question: how do I make my network drive faster?)
    Thanks!

    Got RAWs from a D7000 and D600, LR v5.2 [922700].
Oddly things are working now... I ejectected the network drive in Finder and reconnected to my router.  Lightroom no longer has problems viewing the photos, even after I closed my laptop and reopenned it.  I think the problem might occur when my laptop goes to sleep for a long time and I reconnect.  Will repoert back when I try that.
I'm using an external HDD attached to my router.  The reason I don't plug the external HDD to my laptop directly is I don't want to keep doing it every time I want to access my photos, and my laptop only has limited disk capacity since it's an SSD.

  • Opening files on a network drive.

In a (LabVIEW 6.0 WINNT)VI I have to open a file on a network drive with "Read lines from file.vi". In my devolpment environmet and after building the exe-file with aplication builder it works fine on my local machine. After installing the executable on a different computer (logged in as a different user), attached to the network, and installing the Run Time Engine "error 7 occured at open flie+.vi". The file path on both computers is exactly the same.
What is the reason that the file is found on my local computer and not found on an other users computer?????
    kind regards

    Hi,
With NT you have to be careful that you have the correct access rights to the network folders.
When you are logged in as a different user, can you see and open the file you are trying to read on the network drive using Explorer?

  • No thumbnails in Nautilus for files on a network drive (smb)

    Hi,
I can not find out how to get thumbnails for movie files stored on a network drive I access through Nautilus (in Gnome 3). Local files get thumbnails, but not the files on the remote drive. This works without problems in Ubuntu, so it's obviously possible. I have of course set preview to 'Always' in the Nautilus settings.

I had a similar issue, and it turns out nautilus was using ffmpegthumbnailer instead of totem-video-thumbnailer.
And ffmpegthumbnailer doesn't seem to work with files on "smb://...". It was generating empty pngs.
Do you have totem installed et does this create an image ?
    totem-video-thumbnailer "smb://videoserver/pathtovideofile/videofile" test.png
Did you try to uninstall ffmpegthumbnailer or video thumbnailers other than totem ?

  • Offline files on a network drive

I am using PSE7, and have made the stupid decision to put all my pictures and catalogue on a network drive.
In addition I have changed the network name from:
\\sda\kanolsen to \\ubuntu\ntfs which means that the files are now offline. (nothing of this was made in PSE).
I have read all I can find on the subject but can't fix the problem.
What I want to do is cover my losses and move the files to my desktop and only access them from there.
How do I do that when they are offline?
    I have tried the following:
    1. Have tried the file - move command via display - show folder location.
It doesn't show any pics in the offline folder (or any other folder for that matter). http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/pselements/qt/replaceproxy.htm
    2. I have tried the different tips"Quickly reconnecting large numbers of photos"
    3. When trying to reconnect files I get an error message saying that it can't reconnect since the process is locked or something.
None of them works. Now I have made the PSE7 files corrupted for the second time (fortunately I recover them from a backup).
But with over 14000 pics I am getting VERY nervous I won't be able to do the move and have to do everything from scratch (which I cannot practically do).
ANY help would be very appreciated.
    Kanolsen

    Hi
I found a way round this as I had the same issue.
    Backup the catalog file first!
Download and run black cat SQL manager (as this understands the database format)
Use this to open the catalog file (catalog.pse7db)
Open the table in the catalog database called volume_table
edit the type field against your network drive to read "builtin_drive" instead of network drive
You can now use an automatic reconnect strategy as this fools PSE into thinking its not a network drive, as in
Reconnect an entire folder tree all at once. If you’ve moved an entire tree of folders and they’re now disconnected, you can persuade PSE to reconnect them all quickly.
    a.       In Edit > Preferences > Files, select the option Automatically Search For And Reconnect Missing Files.
    b.      Do File > Reconnect > Missing File to reconnect one file manually.
    c.       Do File > Reconnect > All Missing. PSE will start searching “near” the folder containing the missing file you reconnected in step b, and it will usually find all the missing files within a couple of minutes of searching.
    d.      If step c doesn’t find all the missing files, or you’re impatient, you can explicitly tell PSE where to search:
    i.                    Do Help > System Info and write down the folder location of your catalog.
    ii.                  Exit PSE.
iii.                Use Windows Explorer to navigate to the catalog folder.
iv.                Open the file “rmf.3.cache” in Notepad. This file was created in step b above. It contains the most recent folders in which you reconnected files (“rmf” = “reconnected media folders”), and the Reconnect command always searches these folders first before scanning the rest of your drives.
    v.                  Delete all of the contents of the file and add a single line containing the full path of root of the folder tree containing your photos. For example, if you moved the folder tree to E:\data\photos, add that as a single line to the file.
    vi.                Save the file.
vii.              Restart PSE and do File > Reconnect All Missing again. It should first search the folder tree you provided in step v.

  • Time Machine creates two sparsebundle backups on network drive, then questions their validity

Time Machine first creates a sparse-bundle backup on the network-drive, called  xxxxxx MacBk.sparsebundle, which appears to be at or near the full qunatity of data being backed up (about 65Gb).
Then a message appears saying something like the Identity of the backup disk cannot be confirmed, has it been changed (don't have the exact wording before me), and asks me to confirm whether I want to continue using that disk.
When I look a this disk, I see the first sparsebundle that was created, xxxxxx MacBk.sparsebundle, at about 65Gb, and then a second one, called
xxxxxx MacBk.sparsebundle1, which has just started to be created, and is perhaps a few hundred Mb.
The TM message asks me to confirm whether I want to continue using the disk, which it regards as suspect ( I am not asked to confirm the sparsebundle itself, there is no option for that).
If I click yes, the TM then reports that there isn't enough room on the disk to create a backup, so presumably it is still ignoring the first sparsebundle and trying to create yet another.
I have tried deleting the smaller sparsebundle, and trying backing up again the same, with the same effect (not enough space reported)
I have also tried deleting all sparsebundles and starting again with the backup, and then the problems of two sparsebundles reappears, so back to square one.
I am backing up a 13" white macbook, using OS 10.6.8. and a hard-drive connected to an imac, which is connected to a brand new  Airport Express base-station router . The macbook is connected to the router via Mains Internet , not wi-fi.
This system has worked very well for me for several years, first with a Time Capule, then an old Netgear router after the TC broke, and never had problems.  A couple of weeks ago I switched to the new   Airport Express base-station, due to unrelated problems with the old router, and now have this problem.

    Denis77 wrote:
One evening about 8 I came to the the computer to find a dialog box indicating that it was backing up something over 800,000 files, about 60 GB and counting; Time Machine indicated a Latest Backup at 3:30 that afternoon. No unusual events that afternoon to set things off track, as far as I know. It was creating a new sparsebundle as Pete A indicated, same name with a <space> "1" added. Unlike his experience, however, deleting the newer sparsebundle does not provide access to the older one.
Any ideas how to redesignate the older sparsebundle as the real backup? The Mac is not seeing it now, which is why it keeps starting a new one. Since this is apparently a baseline snapshot, I would like to get my backup history back.
Most likely, the old sparse bundle is corrupted, and Time Machine can't use it. Try repairing it, per #A5 in the Time Machine - Troubleshooting *User Tip,* also at the top of this forum.
If it can be repaired successfully, Time Machine may continue using it.
If it can't be repaired, or TM won't continue using it, there's not much you can do. Keep the old sparse bundle for a while (you may be able to browse and restore from it, per #E2 in the Troubleshooting Tip. Once you're sure you don't need the old set (or Time Machine runs out of room and has to start deleting backups from the new set), delete the old sparse bundle via the Finder.

  • File Adapter with Network Drive

    Hi all,
I am trying to read a file from Z:\ that is actually pointing to a network drive of another machine.
However i am getting the error Configured source directory 'Z:\xxx' does not exist.
I am running Windows Server on both machine. I have map the network folder to Z:\ in the PI server.
    Any advice?

    hi,
    1. check proper authorizations for accessing that folder.
    2. Can you check whether you can access the folder from PI Server using window "run" command.
    Also i think,
If you accessing the shared location in the network
    the path would be "
<system name of the shared location>\<foldername>"
