Creating a jagged edge border---got me stumped???

I know this has got to be an easy one.
I created an image (720x480@300dpi), filled it with a pattern and can't figure out how to cut off the edges----making an irregular border. I want to use this final image (with ragged border) in a video project so the background has to be transparent. In other words, is I want an image with ragged edge border and irregular in shape.......and I want to see that portion only.
I tried using the "cookie cutter" but when I flatten the image, I don't have anything. Using a new image (white) gives me the ragged image centered on a white background.
What's the best way to approach this????
Hope to hear your ideas.
Mike

Thanks Barabara, but when I do that, I still get a white background (using the cookie cutter for example).
Detail:
Taking the final "unmerged" image and saving it as a jpeg and then importing it into a video timeline it appears as a image with a irregular ragged border on a white background----since the video timeline is essentially "black" when no video is present.
Not sure if I'm using the right jargon here.
(BTW, I got your book, and it's been a great help)

  • Trasform Distort Creating Jagged Edge

I am trying to use Edit>Transform>Distort to draw a fence in perspective. The result is a visibly jagged edge. (See image below.)
I am starting out with a considerably larger fence picture, in the hope that oversampling would fix this problem, but even that is still giving me a jagged edge.
Is there an easy way to create this effect with smoother edges?
(Possibly worth noting: in the original fence layer, the white areas are transparent, and need to be transparent, as there will be another layer under the fence layer.)

There was a thread a while back regarding Smart Objects that also showed jagged edges after transformation that I can’t locate currently, might have been about CS4 – but if Mr.Cox is looking into it anyway the issue should be in good hands.

  • Placed PSD file has Jagged Edge

    Products:
    PS CC
    AI CC
I have a 2500 x 4088 px PSD file with no jagged edges, until it is placed into Illustrator.
I believe that I have placed the PSD file in its original size, but may be wrong. My artboard was created to be larger than the original image, and when placing the file I simply clicked on the artboard.
I have not knowingly increased or reduced the dimensions of the placed file.
Will the jagged edge be present if I place the AI file into InDesign?
Is there a setting somewhere that I need to change to remove the jagged edge?
    Thanks

    Hi John, thank you.
I verified that the anti-alias box was checked, and it was. I usually do not print, so your suggestion was well taken. When the document printed, the lines were as smooth as I expected them to be.
A few days ago when troubleshooting my Windows 8 system, it recommeneded that I perform a Refresh -- so I did. It notified me that it would keep all files and I thought nothing more of it, but learned that the refresh deletes all installed programs. I had to reinstall all Adobe products (among others).
After the re-install I created the attached image. There was a version of the same size that I created before the refresh, and when I placed that image into Illustrator, it appeared smooth with no jagged images.
I don't know why the jagged edges are present on the screen, but ultimately it's the print version that matters (save as to web produced smooth edges, too).
Thank you for your response, it was very helpful.

Draw the arrow on a canvas colored to match the background of
    the page
you will be using it on, then export with Index Transparency.

  • Jagged edge of Smart Objects in Photoshop CS4!

Vector graphics created in Illustrator CS4 and pasted as Smart Objects into Photoshop CS4 used to appear perfectly smooth. This has stopped. I now get very jagged edged Smart Objects which are quite useless. I have checked all the Edit preferences and made sure Anti Alias is turned on in the Illustrator files to no effect. What can be done about this? What has suddenly changed and why? Would uninstalling & reinstalling CS4 solve this problem? Has anyone else experienced this and found the solution?

    Hi OldBob1957,
Thanks for your helpful suggestion and the links which I've noted for future
    reference.
However, I think the problem is solved and I'm indebted to Chris Cox of
    Photoshop Family for
No idea. The only time I saw this happen was when someone mistakenly turned
    off the antialias
feature when placing the smart object. (which is why I put the antialias
    checkbox in the transform
toolbar to make it more visible in later releases)
And of course when I checked I had done exactly that and been struggling for
    weeks!
    Now unblinkered.
    Regards,
    John

  • Jagged edge of Smart Object in PS CC. Anti-alias is disabled.

I created a rectangle shape in PS and make it as Smart Object. I get jagged edged Smart Object when I do rotate, skew or perspective it.
Someone suggested that turning on the anti-alias feature in the option bar would solve this issue. However, When I do free transform Smart Object, the anti-alias feature is diabled.
Has anyone experienced this kind of issue and found the solution?
    Thanks

Thanks for the help. Your suggestion would be work when I use shapes in Smart Object, however, what I am trying to do is to create a shape or any object and make it Smart Object as a container. Objects in Smart Object can be anything.
Image Interpolation setting in PS Preference is Bicubic. I tried with Bicubic automatic but I had a same result. Also I tried with raster graphics, but it still seemed jagged.
    The line looks Jagged
    Here's another example.
    Can anyone help with this?
    Thanks!

  • Create a responsive white border

    Hello everyone,
I would like to create a responsive white border (frame?) around my website, just like this example : http://www.dennisadelmann.de/#. I want it to be regular, 20px no matter the browsers dimensions.
After a lot of unsuccessful attempts, i decided to create 4 rectangles with the rectangle tool, place them on the four sides of my page and pin them so they stay in place. It works perfectly, exept for the right border rectangle, wich doesn't want to stay in place.
So, is there any way to make it right? Or any way to deal with that right rebel rectangle?
Thanks a lot for your answers!

The Edge Commons library will get you headed down the right path, in terms of different layouts for different devices.
    http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-edge-animate/flexible-layouts-using-adobe-edge-animate-and -the-edge-commons-library/
    https://github.com/simonwidjaja/EdgeCommons
You could also build a menu for desktop/mobile. Then check browser size with this:
    $(window).width();
or use a library like modernizr to check capabilitie (touch for example): http://www.modernizr.com/
You could then use jQuery show/hide to display the appropriate menu.

  • Create slideshows in edge animate

    good afternoon.
i am building a website for a web design company i work for. we want to be able to showcase the websites we have built for others by having an animation on our sites website design page that rotates through screenshots of all the sites we have built and when you click on the actively displayed screenshot it takes you to the actual website seen in that screenshot.
so far the only way i know of doing this is with flash which is what we are using now.
however this means we are actively discriminating against ios users as apple don't provide flash player on ios.
so we are looking foralternatives and came across edge animate.
however i have ran into 2 problems with edge animate that i simply cannot resolve.
    1. while edge animate is great at creating more complicated animations it doesnt appear to be capable of doing simple slideshows by which i mean have an image occupy the entire stage for x amount of time then switch to a different image for x amount of time. instead it treats every image as a seperate layer meaning whichever image is at the front is present the entire length of the animation which is useless for the type of project i am trying to create.
    2. edge animate generates a stand alone html file for every project along with all the imae assets and javascript files which while this helps with compatibility in ensuring more browsers can watch the animation it doesnt give me any way to insert the animation into my website design page.
any ideas where i can find tutorials that will show me how to overcome these limitations?

    Hey Preran,
With regards to the help you posted on the forum.
Any advice on how to incoporate the slideshow to deal with different sized images. I don't want the small ones stretched to fit the original large sized photo but rather scaled up to fit as close fit as possible. I don't mind black space in between.
    Thanks,
    Chaminda.
I started a thread because I missed this post the first time I was going around.

  • Creating a 1 pt. border on a transparent background??

I'm wondering if there is a simple way to create a 1 pt. border on my transparent background. I want this as a "cutting guide", but my "inside edit/stroke" is not working on the transparent b/g.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    On a blank layer:
    Select > All
    Select > Modify > Contract > 1 px
    Invert Selection
Edit > Fill with the color of your choice.
It's a bit old school roundabout, but it works.

  • White jagged edge around masked image in InDesign CS2

I have an image with a black background which I have masked out that I'm placing into a document in InDesign CS2 that has a black background. There is a jagged white "halo" along he masking line that gets worse the farther out you zoom and disappears if you zoom in closely. What can I do to to make the halo go away when I'm zoomed out to a normal distance? I want to feather the edges of the placed photo, but when I do this, it includes the white halo in the feather and creates a grey cloud around the image.

How does it print? That's the important thing. If the preview's really bothering you set the image's display quality to High Resolution. My guess is that InDesing generated a low-resolution preview when the image was placed and in the downsampling, the edge of your mask was antialiased, producing gray pixels at the edge.
You might get acceptable results using a clipping path instead of a mask. That way the edges will not be antialiased because the edges of the image will be hidden by the clipping path.
Make sure the Black in your image matches the CMYK values in the black of the page.

  • How do I create a white line border for my video

So I've got standard HD source video with 16:9 aspect ratio (1920 x 1080 pixels) and I've made it "wide screen" by putting black slugs as bands at the top and bottom of the screen. I would now like to place a white line border at the top and bottom of the visible video. How do I do this in FCP? Is there a "draw" like function within FCP similar to those in Microsoft Word or Powerpoint, so that I can draw a line and then define it's colour and width?
    Thanks very much.

    Hi Michael,
if you need to do this often a plugin may also help you to quickly and easily create, reposition and change the width and color of one or more lines. One of these plugins is a free one of mine (actually I have two line genertors available for you).
You can find them using the link below, they are  "line generators" indeed:
    http://www.lucavisualfx.com/freebies.htm
Hope you find them useful, if you need me to increase/decrease certain control values (in the actual script/code) let me know and I'll make necessary adjustments for you.
    Luca
Disclaimer: The plugins downloadable from the link above are totally free, however, the web site includes commercial plugins/visual fx web pages. As per TOU I am required to state that  I may  receive compensation of some sort from my link reccomendation.

  • Help to create a faded edge filter

I want to be create a filter to fade out the edges of an
image, however I'm not sure where to start with figuring out if a
pixel is within the edge fade distance. I've got the attached as a
starter, but I'm not sure where to go for the left and bottom
    edges.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

You need to pass in the width and height of the image as
parameters and use those. Pixel Bender 1.0 doesn't have the
original size of the input image accessible (in Pixel Bender we
only pass in the parts of the input image that are needed).

  • How can I center a symbol on a responsive page created with adobe edge ?

    Hi everybody !
I started working on Adobe Edge Animate for about 1 month now, it's a great tool for a young web designer like me.
Actualy, I'm working on my responsive personal website and I encountered some problems. When I create a new symbol and that I put this one on my main scene, I can't center it (there isn't all the option available for an image for exemple).
( Sorry for my broken english, I'm french )

I built a file with your issue or problem: demo file (attachment).
I found one solution: see pictures. Size and position of the container ("Group") are relatives (%).
Bon réveillon du nouvel an.
