Creating a live photo display of everyones photos at a party.

Hey guys;
I'm having a party, and would like to create a display of live pics that guests take.
Is it possible to have pics that people email me appear on the screen in a slide show?
I have been trying to set up a rule to have all emailed images saved to local HD, and then have a screensaver point to that folder.
I'm not sure how to set up that rule (all applescript I have found doesn't seem to work) and i'm not sure how to ensure that the screensaver shows new pics.
Any ideas?? Thanks a lot!

This should be possible, but I'd try it before the party in case there is an oops. Create a folder somewhere that you can find it. System Preferences/Desktop & Screen Saver/Screen Saver - select the folder in Source/Choose folder. If the Source option isn't there, select a slide show in the left pane of the window which should enable the Source option.
Write your Mail rule. Send yourself some test e-mails with pictures to see if the rule works. If it does, then set up the screen saver and test.

Somehow I created a live copy of "Finder" on my desktop.  It is titled "iPhoto Library", and has live copies of all of my files/photos/music.  How can I make it go away without deleting all of my content?

Either you moved or copied your iPhoto library folder to the Desktop.
Quit iPhoto. Rename the folder on your Desktop to something else, such as "foo." Launch iPhoto. If you still see all your photos, you can delete "foo."
If you don't see your photos, quit iPhoto, rename "foo" to "iPhoto Library," and put it in your Pictures folder. Try iPhoto again.

  • I have photos that are rotated within a photo stream created from a project even though the photo displays properly within the project. How can I get the photos to have the proper rotation within the photo stream?

I have a photo stream that was created from a subset of photo from a rather large Aperature project. Some of the photos show up rotated within the photo stream but are not rotated within the project. Why is this happening and how do I fix the rotation within the photo stream? I do have the latest version of Aperature and have all of the necessary updates applied to my devices used to view the photo stream. The photos do show up rotated within the photo stream segment of Aperature, so I am sure it is not an issue with the output device (iPad and Apple TV). I do know that I cannot edit photos within a photo stream, but no amount of editing within the project allows the photos to be properly rotated within the photo stream. All help would be greatly appreciated.

That will work, but it is the long way 'round.
As Frank noted, Book Albums are just specialized Albums.  Albums can show any Image in your Library, regardless of where the Album is located on the Library Inspector, and regardless of which Project contains the Image.  You can put your Albums anywhere (in a Folder called "Books" for example).  You can put Images from anywhere in your Library in any Album.
    The easy way 'round:
    - Make a new Book Album
    - Select Images you may want to put in your Book.  Flag them.
    - Select some more.  Flag them.
    - Go to the "Flagged" container (listed near the top of the Library Inspector), select all, and drag-and-drop them to your Book Album.
    - Repeat as needed, or just drag-and-drop directly into the Book Album.
Note that you can remove any Image from any Album (including Books) by selecting and hitting the "{Delete}" key.  This _does not remove the Image from the Project that contains it, or from the Library.
Note, too, that once the Images are in your Book Album, you then put them in the Book you are creating for publication.  The Book Album contains the superset of Images with which you populate the Book itself.  The Book Album also holds the Book.
A good (imho ) introduction to the parts of Aperture can be found in this short guide I wrote.
The User Manual is helpful.  Here is
    the chapter on making Books.
    From that chapter, here is
the section detailing how to create and populate a Book Album.

  • Over half my albums in iPhoto won't display the enlarged photo. How can I correct this?

Over half my albums in iPhoto won't display the enlarged photo. How can I correct this?

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). (On iPhoto 11 this option is under the File -> Reveal in Finder.) Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/ Library/ Caches...
    5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
If none of these help: As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • IPhoto doesn't display my recent photos in "Photos"

I have a brand new MacBook Pro with Lion 10.7.3 and iPhoto 11. I downloaded a "roll" on January 17 and another one today. I can see the photos I downloaded today only in "Recent Imports;" neither my roll from January 17 nor my roll from today can be seen in "Photos." Essentially, my roll from January 17 is lost. Any words of advice on where to find the photos or how to change the settings? If I have to rebuild iPhoto 11, then what's the best way to do it?

Make sure you have the sort option for the Photos mode set to what you expect by going to the View ➙ Sort ➙ xxx menu and check the selection. If you don't have the Event titles set to be displayed in the Photos mode do so and then check the events to see if you can find the one from that date.
If you still can't see the photos try the following: space allowing and if you don't aready have a backup copy of the library make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Commadn+D) and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Photos Display Incorrectly after iPhoto 9.1.2 Update

Since the latest iPhoto Update (9.1.2) Photos have been displaying incorrectly on AppleTV in Events View. Instead of being organized in events like in iPhoto, the events are displayed with 2 photos in each, creating multiple events for each actual event. For instance, if a specific event in iPhoto has 1,500 photos, then on AppleTV, this event is displayed 750 separate times with 2 photos in each "event". That makes it impossible to fins anything specific, and is embarrassing when you are showing people your cool AppleTV.
I have restored the AppleTV, rebuilt the Thumbnails and Caches in iPhoto, adjusted my Firewall, yet nothing has fixed the issue. Everything else displays correctly, Movies, TV Shows, Music, Pod Casts, just  not the Photos.
Anyone else experiencing this, or find a fix?

I found this other thread discussing this topic, no fix, I will revert to 9.1.1 from Time Machine and wait for a new update.

  • Photos display from Notes with iPod Classic, but not Nano

I have created links to 5 small .jpg photos in a single Notes file in an iPod Classic, and each link and photo works and displays just fine. However, when I use the same file and photos on a Nano, (copied the exact same file structure and content from the iPod Classic) the links work, but the photo displays as a blank white screen with "Oya" displayed in the upper left hand corner.
Any idea what causes the "Oya" error message to be displayed?
    Thanks

    Try this:
Use the click wheel on the ipod
Go to the Menu  >>   scroll through the Settings  >>  on my iPod nano 3 gen I can change the settings for Shuffle  & Repeat  >>  On or Off. Skip is not available.
May be on your iPod in the menu you could change the Skip  >>  On or Off.

  • Display of Still Photos in Video

Does anyone know how to alter a jpeg to display properly in a video? Everything looks great in preview, but when I import the picture to FCE it is full of jagged lines were stripes or other defining lines should be. I've tried to de-interlace but it only makes it worse.

Still images are computer generated , thus meaning they are created for print or displaying on a computer monitor. in short the pixels are not of the same shape. in DV video the pixels are rectangle and, your stills are square. a simple quick fix would be to open the stills with your photo editor and, give them just a little gaussian blur. you may also consider resizing the hight of your still. in your photo editor select resize > percent and, change the hight to 90%. be sure constrain is unchecked.
The still will look a little squashed but, will look correct when imported into FCE

  • Photo displays

I can find no good information on subject. For 18 months I have been working with Elements 7 and producing prints and books. My camera is a canon and my aspect ratio is of course 4 x 6 (2:3) and I produce 8 X 12's or 12 x 18 for wall hanging. I had hoped to find some way to display photos via TV (DVD) or other means in a simple fashion. Roxio's easy media creator does it wonderfully simple by just dropping in, but aspect ratio is for point and shoots with alternative of 16:9. I though :what about those photo displays one sees in everyone's house? No luck, seemingly, as they appear to use exclusively the same ratio. After all the work I put in on editing, I would rather nothing at all than arbitrary croppings. I am surprised that there seems to be nothing. Perhaps I am missing something. (PS: when I first got into digital photography and elements, I tries out the Elemets slide show, but that got me nothing but confusion--if premiere was the easy answer, I would buy it, but my recall was that it is not.)

Thanks. If I understand, then, and by implication, if I
were directing myself to a slideshow as the objective, I might crop and have controlled cropping by doing that at the outset. However, if I am editing on the basis of 8 X 12, and after all the working on it decide that this is one that shouldgo into slideshow, I am sort of out of luck, correct?
Except, of course for those software programs you cite. Putting aside the sad last warning, are they pretty simple to use? I will look into them, but anything more you can tell me would be great.

  • Sorting Photos Display Order

On my Mac I use Picasa to organise my photos. When I sync this iPad I am not happy with the sort order of photos in my albums and likewise I cannot seem to find a setting to change the choice of image for the album thumbnail.
Am I missing somethin or has Apple missed the opportunity to use drag and drop to change th display order?

Photos are sorted in capture date order (possibly create date), and cannot be sorted in any other order - unless you manipulate their dates. The thumbnails are (at least on my iPad) the oldest photo in each album. If you think Apple have missed something by doing it this way : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

  • IPod display of imported photos

Using an iPod as backup storage for a digital camera in the field is useful but at times scary. iPods will save RAW images, but display only the word RAW instead of the photos. On a recent trip I shot a mix of RAW and superfine JPEGs but the iPod displayed only a question mark on all of them. I was left unsure if my 1100 photos were secure in their backup storage. Happily all images downloaded correctly. I then did a reset of the iPod to factory defaults and tested it by importing both JPEGs and RAW images. Separately, the iPod displayed the JPEG images, and the RAW photos as "RAW". But if both JPEGs and RAW were on the same camera card, the iPod would not display any images at all, only "?". Apple's information on the camera connector says this indicates an unrecognised file type, but it seems clear that the iPod software cannot cope with mixing file types either. This is a further serious limitation to the use of iPod with camera connector.

It's likely that your Library database has been damaged in all the crashing.
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Changing photo display problems

Hi - new here. I've managed to create a short movie in iMovie usinf some still photos (aren't I clever?!) but when I try to do it again, after I drag and drop a photo into the timeline, I cannot click and drag the photo to change its display time...when I hover the mouse over the photo, the icon does not change at all. I know I can change the display time in photo settings but i want to drag it like I did before. i have changed a setting by mistake? How do I get it back?
    Thanks in advance

    Welcome to the Discussion.
When the menu command View > Show Audio Volume Levels is checked, iMovie doesn't let us drag the end of the clip to change its length. (The cursor changes the volume level instead of performing direct trimming.)
Select the menu command — to uncheck it. Then direct trimming should start working again.
